Don rickles!!!!! RIP legend. There is a bunch of videos of don rickles on the Johnny Carson show that are so good. The dean martin celebrity roast are awesome as well. He has a lot great stuff, more than what is on this edited video.
Don Rickles was nothing but love, & one of the very few people that worked in Hollywood for decades & you cannot find one person that knew him that will say anything bad about him. After his shows he went from table to table, person to person if necessary, we all need to laugh at ourselves & love each other. Don and Rodney were in the same age group, among a couple of others, who ruled the comedy world back then. If I recall correctly, Dons nickname was Mr. Warmth. LOL There were quite a few really good comedians from that era, but many performed in comedy movies or on TV. I commented a few weeks ago and I apologize for not getting back to you. Don Rickles was the man. No one was immune from his comedic genius. Too bad we have so many snowflakes in existence nowadays that this brand of comedy is gone. I would've loved to be insulted by this man!
I agree with him being better than Rodney. Rodney was more creative, but Don used his comedy in a very racially tumultuous period in our country’s history to make everyone laugh at each other, then even harder at themselves, to make everyone realize we aren’t all that different. At least not in ways that matter. He was a master insult comic in that he used common negative perceptions and turned them into meaningless jokes, he was one of the first to successfully do this style of insult comedy and it’s what the world needed. The man knew exactly what he was doing, and he succeeded in bringing everyone together. The world needs more like him.
I watch these older clips and as much as I laugh along the overwhelming feeling is sadness. Sadness that we can't laugh at ourselves and our differences anymore like we used to. I think it would be fair to point out that at the end of every show Don Rickles did he would tell everyone that he makes fun of everyone to show the silliness of prejudice and to show we can all laugh at the differences we have between us. He told his audience we are all the same and should love each other-and not be afraid to have fun. If you notice all the stars, hosts and audience members laughed as he made fun of them. You may not believe this but in Hollywood the saying was "If Rickles attacks you YOU KNOW YOU HAVE MADE IT" People loved Don because he made fun of all colors, creeds, rich, poor, politicians and himself.
