The hilarious thing is that Sam was a genuine Pentecostal Preacher. He actually gave sermons and had the same vibe in his sermons as in his comedy - the energy and the cadence - he was quite a guy!
They originally wrote the parts of Al and Peg Bundy for Sam and Roseanne Barr, based off of their comedy. Neither one was interested in playing the role.
No human being has ever made me laugh harder, more uncontrollably, and consistently, like Kinison. When that man was cooking on stage, no one could touch him, then or now. Sam, you absolute maniac, we miss you dearly.
You just know Sam would have made a hell of a comedy bit about it if he could. He spends decades high and drunk AF, gets himself sober and is getting his shit together only to have a drunk cross the yellow line.
I saw him in Cincy in 1987. About 40 people bought tickets to protest him during the show. He cursed them out like crazy as they single-filed out of the place. The audience shouted them down, too.
Saw him in Tampa, the same year. FUNNIEST show I ever saw...there was an evangelist preaching in the other half of the venue. It went wrong. Really fast. LMAO!
@@immortaltyger1569 Kinnison always had an army of Karens protesting. I guess because of his dirty mouth and the fact he used to be a preacher. I don't really know.

@@jackempson3044 WOW Jack … I would love to hear ANY stories you have about growing up with Brother Sam ! I have questions . Sorry about your friend . It must have been wild to watch his trajectory from preaching to his meteoric rise to master comedian/ rockstar . Did you go to any concerts together ? 🎸😎🙏
I grew up in Tulsa. I saw his last two concerts there at the Brady Theater and the IPE Building. He was out of his mind on drugs for the Brady show ---- couldn't do his act, just rambled ---- but he was back to form for the IPE show.
Sam used to be an evangelist preacher when he was younger. Watch the whole Dangerfield HBO special. It was supposed to air on Easter Sunday and then they realized that wouldn't be a good idea and pushed it back a week.
his shtick was yelling and we LOVED it back in the day. granted when he was popular i was only just born lol. i remember seeing him on tv like in living color and some stand up but ya know, i was like 4. still loved his yelling though. the man has a commanding voice and knew how to fugging use it and he used it man.
A true classic, a takeoff on the famous Frank Capra movie ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ where Jimmy Stewart’s character George Bailey has a guardian angel Clarence.

You have to imagine watching this for the first time on an HBO comedy special sitting on the couch as a kid in the 80s. OMFG!!! I haven't watched this in years because I watched so many times when i was like 12 and I forgot just how great a comic Sam was. I knew it but omg I'm crying laughing like I'm 12 on the couch watching it for the first time again.
Sam's father was a Pentecostal preacher...and so was Sam before he took a hard U-turn into comedy. His stand-up style is informed by that background. Usually starting with a brief calm demeanor, followed by intense sudden tirades and legendary screams. If you ever find yourself at a Pentecostal gathering, bring earplugs and be ready for - ANYTHING!!!!!
Saw him live while I was in college. One of the funniest show ever. We didn’t know if the “Phone Call from Hell” was real or a set up. It was real and the greatest phone prank ever!
The King of 80s hardcore comedy... In the grand scheme of things, There is Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Andrew Dice Clay.... their shock comedy would explode heads in 2024

Sam was a volcano masquerading as a comedian. His HBO special "Breaking The Rules" is still mandatory viewing for all true fans of comedy. Just be sure to do as David Letterman urged: brace yourselves.
