- In this video, I will show you how to use WINE instead of PROTON on your Steam Deck SteamOS as sometimes PROTON does not work on specific games while WINE does. So it's good to have both ready at your disposal.

Can we actually use Lutris for that purpose?
It is also possible to use different versions of Proton and Wine inside of Lutris, and we can easily add games from Lutris to Steam
Lutris also works. But I only use lutris when I absolutely have to. 😂

Followed all the steps for ACOdyssey but in the final step, when the game is supposed to start, the game is stopped and SteamTinkerLaunch is exiting. Any idea?
Update: It worked for me after I've selected the most recent wine version as of today.

Im going to try this. I already posted my steam deck for sale. Im fed up trying to get AC2 to start up. Im not a gamer by any means.... Metal Gear Solid games and Assassins Cread (AC1, AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations........thats it). I can play these on my laptop but having an extremely hard time on the deck.
The games you want to play should be easy to get running on the steam deck. Hold on to it.
I got the ubisoft launcher to start from the UbisoftConnect installer but not sure how to get it on Steam... I would have to install it again everytime I want to play. Once I was able to play AC2 for a couple hours before bed last night, the excitement alone was enough for me to decide to keep my steam deck. Its pretty frustrating because Ive dealt with windows all my life but I want to move forward installing the launcher on my deck now.
hello and congratulations for the video I wanted to know once downloaded wine goes into the game folder or is it saved like the Protons? I've tried some old games that don't start just like you, do you recommend me to do this procedure? the games are enslaved and gears of war and also fallout 3 (which I then purchased from steam and it starts) last thing, in your opinion is this procedure good for all cracked games that don't start and is it a valid alternative to try?
sometimes the games aren't working not because of proton, it's probably because it requires a dependency that you didn't install. or maybe the game has anticheat and it doesn't work on linux. you may try to use this method if nothing else works, but don't expect every game to work just because you used wine instead of proton. here's a video to get Gears of War working on Steam Deck SteamOS ua-cam.com/video/N3MAtAE7bsc/v-deo.html
@@GrownUpGamingGUG ok thanks for the video it happened to me with other games like death standing, Ghostwire Tokyo or Resident eliv 3 which I then solved with lutris I wanted to know if when they don't start maybe I should use wine also because the steam library in these cases doesn't start they don't warn you of the error and it becomes difficult to understand what addiction we are missing 😅

Update : no funciona en gaming mode porque depende del steamtinkerlaunch que no puede correr en este modo pero en desktop mode si funciona sin problema
Last I tried steam tinker launch works in gaming mode as well as desktop mode. But you can also use lutris if steam tinker launch is giving you issues.

but after I came to Game Mode, the game didn't work anymore.
then I came to Desktop Mode, and still didn't work.
so In my case, this method only work on Desktop Mode
i've seen comments lately regarding this video and not working in gaming mode. i guess something updated and broke it? this video was a while ago. maybe i will try to install it again in future and give an update.

it booted into a black screeen? ( it boots in desktop mode not gaming mode) however for some reason the game is small in desktop mode while playing games
I haven't tried this in a while. But from the comments, some people has gotten it to work about a month ago.

Masyaallah,, nice video,, I've tried to get it done,, but when I tried to download the wine file, the application said something about wine goes wrong and the download file stopped, and forced me out,, any suggestions for what to do,, my game is ac origins (quaked) 🥺🥺🥺

i got it in my steam deck and is working really well, i downloaded from fitgirl repack, then installed using lutris, maybe try the fitgirl version.

This helped me open the game, but when i put it on full screen it stretches and minimizes the game to where i cant even read the menu. When i put it in windowed it looks fine but the game runs terribly even at the lowest settings

Try using lutris 7.2.2 in runner options. Else get linuxrulez version.

do oyu have any tutorial for complete steamlinkerlaunch installation, mine says
missing dependencies:
-git
-xdotool
-yad
-xwinfo
i use protonup-qt, under install for, select steam, then click add version button, under compatibility tool, select steamtinkerlaunch and then click install button. that's it.
I tried this for ac2 and it would not load the game. The game would just close
can't use one method to make every game work.

It works for me in desktop mode and gaming mode but I've deleted the game already and this video was 5 months ago so not sure if anything has changed since recently steam tinker launch has been giving me issues also with mod organizer 2.

mine was working on gaming mode too. but i didn't play very far of the game. the performance wasn't too good at the start.

inside game folder, edit the uplay_r1_loader.ini file. change the SavePath location to somewhere you like.
