I unwittingly bonded a covidspren recently. The Surges of Isolation, Imbalance, and Excretion were not exactly an advantage. At least it granted me an extra surge
From the way they're rhythmic change from bright to dim is described, and the name, I suspect logicspren will form the basis of fabrial computers going forward.
The lesser spren can also form a nahel bond. Thats what makes greatshells possible. What makes the true spren different is the radiant bond, which is a special kind of nahel bond
That's a good point. We've seen luckspren bond with most greatshells, music spren likely bond with Ryshadium, and some type of unknown spren bonds with the Tai-na. I guess the Singers bonding spren to take on forms would be a Nahel bond then, too, right?
@@ExploringTheCosmere there is a quote from Brandon: "Nahel bond" is the phrase used for a bond between a spren and a being from the Physical Realm. That is the definition of it. [...] . It's how greatshells exist and grow to the size they do. It's how Ryshadium exist. Those are Nahel bonds also." he does not talk about singer forms here. in the coppermind articel about singers there is written "They are native Rosharan lifeforms characterized by [...] and the presence of a gemheart they can use to create symbiotic bonds with spren, ...." So I guess it would be a type of nahel bond. I could not find a WoB speaking against this or giving the provess a special name.
@@ExploringTheCosmere ah I found a good quote from Brandon: ""Nahel bond" is the phrase used for a bond between a spren and a being from the Physical Realm. That is the definition of it. I'd never seen Navani's fabrial pages translated to english before. "PAIN KNIFE" sounds so hardcore, haha. I wonder if it's her equivelent of a tazer or pepper spray for Rosharian women? You keep in in your safepouch, press the button when an attacker is close and if it cuts him, the painspren in the fabrial augments his suffering without actually wounding him.
The pain knife is indeed the Rosharin equivalent of a tazer. Navani uses an early version of it in the third book to incapacitate one of Amaram's soldiers during the Siege of Thaylena.
I love this video. I'm doing a dnd campaign and using Spren in my homebrew world. I'd love to see your script for this. It's just so straight forward and easy to understand.
I'm glad you found it helpful! The script for the video and all the quotes for each type of spren that I pulled from the books are available to both Channel Members and Patrons at the Arcanist tier or higher (links to those are in the video description) 🙂
Glad you liked it. I added your topic suggestion to my list of future topics, it sounds like a fun video to make! BTW, 4th reread is impressive! I've only read Stormlight twice so far haha
I wonder if Sanderson watched or read Mushi-shi. They remind me a lot of that manga, especially the Mushi's and Spren's ambiguous and wondrous behavior that goes beyond words a connection between nature and intelligence which i always liked in any form of media.
Nice theory. In the full quote where Syl talks about her aunt hunting gloomspren, she says that she isn't really her aunt, just an honorspren she refers to that way.
What would a singer be able to do if they bonded a fire spren? Or what armor could be created from fire spren? I feel like ten books might not be enough to completely show all the cool shit he could do with spren and their bonds.
That would be a great question to ask Brandon, "Can Singers bond any type of spren?" I'm going to guess that they can't because it seems like it's difficult for them to discover new forms. I agree, it would be cool to see novellas set on Roshar that don't have anything to do with the main story, instead focusing on worldbuilding.
@@ExploringTheCosmere I believe singers technically CAN bond any type of lesser spren, but only some of them grant forms. I recall somewhere in the worldbuilding that bonding a non-form-granting spren just results in dullform
No? Maybe? Sja anat is an unmade which is distinctly *not* a spren. Potentially unmade from a spren like the stormfather or night watcher 🤔 hence mishrams ability to connect to all singers and roshar
Hey remember your art doesn't have to be drawing or painting. It could be dance, fiber crafts, pottery, woodcarving, ornamental gardening, music, etc. Art is built on the underlying geometry of existence, which is why Cryptics like it. I am now obsessed with the idea of a Lightweaver who focuses their illusions by creating musical leitmotifs for the people they're trying to imitate, or a master infiltrator who spends months observing targets and creating a detailed tapestry of them, eventually creating a mimic performance that could rival a kandra
I would bond with a cultivation spren or honor spren, it would probably depend on which type found me the most interesting Either edgedancer or Windrunner
You couldve talked more about the corrupted spren and how their looks differ from their normal counterparts, probably not enough info for its own video though?
I still fail to understand: Brandon said that spren are a natural phenomenon and could happen on any world. Why then are they seen only in Roshar? What is the difference ?

Reacher, all the way.

That's a great theory!
Navani's lectures indicate they have made logic gates using metal cages and logicspren.
The anxiety spren I fell look more twisty and intertwined more than just straight plus signs you showed. My favorite lesser spren
I think you're right! There is no fan art of them that I could find, so I had to make due.
@ExploringTheCosmere I actually got a tattoo of them with my own interpretation. I posted it on the cosmeretattoo subreddit a while back
This is an awesome resource for Cosmere RPG GMs
Does exist any official Cosmere RPG?
Not gonna lie I mostly imagined the fairies from Majora's mask with different body shapes
Another masterpiece. I think if any of the orders, I'd be an Elsecaller and bond an Inkspren. The oaths make sense to me, and cool powers to boot!
Totally agree

Dope just what I needed at work. Definitely either a Highspern or a Inkspern
Glad I could make work a little more interesting for you haha

@@ExploringTheCosmere Awesome! Thanks
Great video thank you! I would love a deep dive of the Harold’s I’m on my 4th reread and I still get each one confused

Glad it was helpful! Inkspren are my favorite too!

I had never heard of Mushi-shi before your comment. I watched a few episodes, and there are definitely similarities between mushi and spren!
We were so close to greatness....
1 away.
Which one? Rockspren? Sailorspren?
@@ExploringTheCosmereIdk but they just wanted the funny sex number
Oh duh, went over my head
What an amazing video! Spren are probably my favorite thing about the Cosmere they make Roshar feel so vibrant and alive.
Glad you liked it! I agree, spren are an amazing part of Roshar
Isn’t syl’s dad is the storm father? So does the nightwachter (kind of the storm father’s sister is the night watcher) hunt’s gloom spren?
well noticed
Nice theory. In the full quote where Syl talks about her aunt hunting gloomspren, she says that she isn't really her aunt, just an honorspren she refers to that way.

Bro wrote shallans spren book
Would definitely bond a cultivationspren! Would be awesome to also befriend a starspren haha
I would definitely want to bond a cryptic. I'm not that artistic but I think I could make as a lightweaver, so long as I get to bond a cryptic.

I'm a willsaper and not being able to speak so my spren is such a bummer. Mistspren are the ones I like the mist
I mean I feel like I'm kinda obliged to bond a cryptic, being a lightweaver would be just so perfect for me lol
I would bond with a cultivation spren or honor spren, it would probably depend on which type found me the most interesting
Either edgedancer or Windrunner
You couldve talked more about the corrupted spren and how their looks differ from their normal counterparts, probably not enough info for its own video though?
That's true! I think I'll talk about them if I ever make an Unmade video
I think a Crytic would make sense for me but I’m not a Lightweaver
Cryptics are cool. I think I would want one like Design, she's so quirky lol
I think being an elsecaller would fit me:)
Same! Inkspren all the way 😄
Personally I'd like to bond with an Honorspren or Peakspren.
Spren are basically Pokémon.
I gotta say the video title is a bit confusing. I expected one about all spren (individuals) we've seen so far, not all spren types we've seen so far.
I still fail to understand: Brandon said that spren are a natural phenomenon and could happen on any world. Why then are they seen only in Roshar? What is the difference ?
They’re brought about as splinters if Honor’s power. They’re natural but their origin was Honor. At least I think
And this is why I am not confident in any live action adaptation of Stormlight.
It would be a challenge to not make it look weird.
Heavily agree. I feel like something along the lines of arcane, into the spider-verse, LD&R or something like that would be a better way to do it
Truthwatcher here. My buddy is a mistspren. I can never tell if she likes my jokes…
