When I go back home to Alaska, I always use Alaska Airlines. They are among the best airlines around. Friendly staff, great planes, and always a good time. I'm glad you enjoyed your experience!
I love Virgin America! It’s my favorite airline! Thanks for this review as my dad did work for Virgin, but now for Alaska due to the merger! Both airlines are amazing!
They have been SO SHORT SIGHTED on this. I would TOTALLY have flown Virgin Alaska. Honestly, they just should have kept operating both brands under one parent company. They are going to lose customers, BECAUSE all of their VA customer base that were loyal to Virgin (like myself) are going to give their business to JetBlue. Pre-merger, I was the type of West Coast flier (since I am California based) that would fly Alaska occasionally on routes Virgin didn't serve (like to Vancouver via Seattle for Business or Whistler ski trips) other than that, I would pretty much EXCLUSIVELY fly VA.All my SFO-LAX business trips or any foreign travel I had to do through LAX would always include a SFO-LAX VA flight.Virgin America had a great route system, and because their main hub was in San Francisco (which is why I believe Alaska wanted them) they are now able to have the presence or visibility in the Bay Area that VA had, and that Alaska wanted to combine with their Seattle hub to achieve dominance in the West Coast market. If VA had survived, Alaska never would have been able to conquer and get a toe-hold in the Bay Area market, which would have remained VA loyal. The airline industry is like playing Chess, it's all shrewdly calculated moves.
If the shareholders aren’t happy the entire entity goes away. Alaska is adopting their service to a happy medium of both carriers. Satellite WiFi is coming to stream Netflix etc, new menus, blue cabin lighting, and all new interiors that are nicer then Alaska but worse then vx. Should be a nice airline in 2 years
Adam Jagger I flew Alaska in April to a conference in LA, and it was fine. However, both flights were on A320’s that hadn’t been switched to Alaska yet, so it was still like flying VA. 😉 Supposed to fly Alaska to another job training in Seattle in July, and I am sure it will be ok, but I was DEFINITELY a VERY loyal VA flier, and flying Alaska all the time instead is definitely an adjustment. My Alaska flights in July will be on the rebranded Alaska, so I’m hoping I find a happy medium.
Glad to support this series as a patron as it’s been so interesting like all your videos. I’ve flown dozens of times between Portland and Oakland on both SouthWest and Alaska. Pros and cons of both so usually I just go with the cheaper flight being offered at the time. Keep flying...love your videos!
Hello Daniel! Your videos are so awesome! I am in awe. My friend recommended this channel to me and told me that I would love it. Your Emirates, Qatar, and Etihad reviews definitely exceeded all other reviews on these three. I cannot wait until your Southwest one! Fly safe!
I encourage you to fly on Virgin again, I have flown on them for over two years and am always amazed at the friendly atmosphere. Not sure what went wrong on your flight.
Well now you don't have to fight over which to fly because they are merging and soon Alaska will take over... Hopefully the a320s still have the virgin interior.
I flew Virgin and the seats are as soft as JetBlue seats but, the adjustable headrest made the seat even more comfortable than JetBlue. Also the IFE in Virgin rivals many European legacy airlines. Virgin America is like America’s Domestic equivalent of Emirates. I like Alaska Airlines too but, it’s not as nice as JetBlue or Virgin especially that I flew on their older aircraft.
Hmmm, that’s weird. Many of the newer Alaska jets that I fly on have separate infotainment screens for each seat... Maybe it’s just for domestic Alaskan routes.
5:15 See that lady painted on the fuselage? That is the plane that commemorated the Virgin America flights to Hawaii know as ‘Pineapple Express’ N281VA
Been following your channel for a while and I am so glad you finally flew MY airline! I'm proud to work for AS at SFO and would love to have you onboard here soon! I'll keep an eye out ;)
So cool! Thats a very popular route for both O/D and connecting passengers. Always pretty full! ATC delays out of MEX have been kicking our butt recently though... hopefully they get it sorted soon.
The wifi and "Beyond" entertainment are actually two separate products; one is air-to-ground via Gogo (soon to be high-speed satellite) and the "Beyond" entertainment is streaming via a totally separate onboard server. And it's FAST.
Never have flown Virgin America but did fly coach on Alaska's 'Seattle Shuttle' from PDX on their Q400,connecting to a flight to IAH on a 737-800,first class no less(!),only time I've done so,would definitely fly AS again!
Hmmm... Not real crazy about the Virgin "Mood Lighting". Perhaps it translates better in person. The menu on Alaska looks really good. Couple of items I'd like to try. Thanks for the review. Cheers...
I'm an Alaska MVP and will get Gold this year. It was my second favorite airline behind Virgin America. I would have said VA had a little more leg room and more comfy seats. Their First Class is absolutely superior to Alaska. I got on every VA flight I could until the merger was complete. Now I can't find VA anymore on the legs I need. I still once in a while watch the VA safety video and it is in my head for every safety talk I hear. I wish Alaska would put in the seat back ordering system from VA but I have been told they won't. Oh, and welcome to PDX! My home airport.
So glad you're doing Economy flights for us. I did miss the seat tour that you usually do.....those are always fun. Overall how was the service? We're they friendly, inviting, chatty, helpful? That matters a lot to me when I fly....customer service IN THE AIR. Thanks for doing these!!!
Thanks! It’s a lot of fun😄 These domestic seats are so basic so there isn’t really that much to look at. The crew were friendlier and more causal than legacy crews, but they weren’t extraordinary!
So far Alaska Airlines says it's being very diligent in preventing a Covid outbreak, by keeping the middle seats vacant on all flights. And on their smaller planes, they're keeping the aisle seats blocked. If this is true, I love you Alaska airlines!!!!!
Jet Blue maybe is not ready to add Hawaii to its network. Alaska has built, with the VX merger, a West Coast-Hawaii powerhouse with East Coast reach. Alaska reminds me a lot of the old Western Airlines ("The oooonly way to fly!).
Love these videos. Can't wait to see which one comes out on top and these are going to be helpful when looking at which airlines I would like to become flight attendant for. Keep up the good work.
Daniel, when I found out you were doing a review on Alaska Airlines I totally geeked out and I am super happy that you enjoy our product and our warm customer service! We are super proud to be number one! Please fly again from San Francisco to any of our routes and swing by and say hi to me as you’re boarding a flight! Regards! -Cristian
Loved your video! But, you said that you had never flown on Alaska Before and then you said that you were elite with them. Not sure... Could you please explain?
You go to the GoGo Inflight Entertainment website. You then connect to the plane’s WiFi, and it’ll redirect you to the infotainment screens. You can do this on other mobile devices, as well.
Aside the leg room difference between Alaska and Virgin, to me Virgin America was always superior to Alaska. Not sure what went wrong on your short LAX to SFO flight. However, my experience on Virgin was always great, good service, Comfortable, calm, quite and the mode light certainly helped. The private entertainment screen monitor was full of options. Then again im 5’1 so the seat never bothered me with leg room. Bummer you never experienced what most regular Virgin American flyers loved so much and will miss about Virgin American Airlines. Still though, Keep up the great work ;)
Thank you for reviewing Alaska. We just Ed booked fights from LAX to NYC. Alaska Airlines is our preferred domestic airline. My wife dislikes Virgin America. But, we’re Gen-x-ers. Not the target demographic for them anyway!
With SFO being my home airport, I'm glad that Virgin is almost always an option when I fly. Something that I've noticed over the years is that the IFE screen quality looks pretty dated. Maybe it's that we're all used to watching HD content on our monitors/mobile devices, but the lack of sharpness is evident. I'll be sad to say goodbye to those red and white Airbuses.
I hope for the Southwest Review you're on one of their new -800s or Max 8s, because their -700s are the Worst planes in the world, especially the old liveries.
Dantorp Aviation Wow, really? So do you just turn around and turn back when you arrive at your destinations? In other words, you must have a reason for traveling to each place right? For business/work?
Not at all. Their first class was the roomiest ever. Their seats were comfortable and the experience was amazing. Alaska Air has been crap. Poor customer service. Totally fucked up my flight time.
I feel like Virgin America is the only airline that does mood light right. I’ll forever love and miss Virgin America
BRian Wong me too.. 😭
I know right
Alaska is better tho
I am a big fan of Qatar Airways mood lighting
When I go back home to Alaska, I always use Alaska Airlines. They are among the best airlines around. Friendly staff, great planes, and always a good time. I'm glad you enjoyed your experience!
I love Virgin America! It’s my favorite airline! Thanks for this review as my dad did work for Virgin, but now for Alaska due to the merger! Both airlines are amazing!
Thanks for coming out to Portland Oregon! The number 1 airport in the U.S. Your channel is great,
I watch it all the time.
They should rebrand Virgin Ameria and Alaska Airlines as "Virgin Alaska"
That's actually a pretty damn great idea.
If VA had survived, Alaska never would have been able to conquer and get a toe-hold in the Bay Area market, which would have remained VA loyal. The airline industry is like playing Chess, it's all shrewdly calculated moves.
Aaron O'Brien Yes, I am aware of that. Always about that almighty bottom line.

Fly safe!
I encourage you to fly on Virgin again, I have flown on them for over two years and am always amazed at the friendly atmosphere. Not sure what went wrong on your flight.
I will always prefer Virgin America to Alaska airlines.
Well now you don't have to fight over which to fly because they are merging and soon Alaska will take over...
Hopefully the a320s still have the virgin interior.
Well the virgin interior will be missed by a lot of people..
Next do Jetstar Australia, Virgin Australia and Qantas in Australia do for Jetstar and Qantas the 787 Dreamliner or another aircraft like if u agree
Josh Hewton Dantorp could do domestic class
Virgin Australia is no longer a budget airline, however compared to Qantas it is cheaper.
Cozzie 01 yes!!
Xgamer412 yes!!
Loadhaul budget airlines are scum. Jetscum and Tigerscum
Maybe for the next Eco Week you could try the Lufthansa Group members :)
Omg, love that wing view. I fly Alaska a lot, but I always end up in the back, so this video showed me what it was like. Thank you.
Nice review, I did an Alaskan Air in September. Very enjoyable
Thanks Craig! Glad you had a good flight!
Alaskan? Never heard of 'em.
*alaska*
Hmmm, that’s weird. Many of the newer Alaska jets that I fly on have separate infotainment screens for each seat... Maybe it’s just for domestic Alaskan routes.
Great vid .!! I really love Alaska Airlines ..for me they are the best airline in the US.
Another very good video! Congrats from Sao Paulo - Brazil.
5:15 See that lady painted on the fuselage? That is the plane that commemorated the Virgin America flights to Hawaii know as ‘Pineapple Express’ N281VA
The seats on Alaska look identical to WestJet's 737 MAX, where it had even more legroom than you noted on Alaska. Great video, really enjoyed!
Alaska Airlines will always be my fav airline
Virgin America has the BEST safety video, such a fun entertaining video that everyone can enjoy. Another great vid Dan 😁👍✈️
Thanks Ross! I know the song by heart😂🤪
Hi, out of all the airlines you've flown which have you found were the best when you traveled long haul internationally(Europe)?
Yayyy among the first 10 !!!!
I loved that pink purple mood light on-board !!!!
Been following your channel for a while and I am so glad you finally flew MY airline! I'm proud to work for AS at SFO and would love to have you onboard here soon! I'll keep an eye out ;)
That’s awesome! I’m flying AS to MEX next month😃
So cool! Thats a very popular route for both O/D and connecting passengers. Always pretty full! ATC delays out of MEX have been kicking our butt recently though... hopefully they get it sorted soon.
Awesome video!!! I flew Alaskan Airlines and I loved it! The staff were so nice and even made me a home made ice tea!
Your videos are Great! A step above the rest out there! Continue to keep us well informed!👍👌😎
Thanks as always Diane! Happy holidays🎁
Thank you so much! I’ve been waiting for the next review and love it! Thanks so much for your dedication to UA-cam Dan! Love u ❤️
Thanks Blake! Merry Christmas😘
Merry Christmas to you too!
Couldn't agree more on the video, insanely catchy.
4:39 gasp*..... Wakes Up oh shit we’re landing 😂😂
Thanks for the insight into Alaska Air.. I'm taking my first flight on them in April..
Loved the vid and enjoyed the flight experience. Thanks.

Another great video. Huge Thanks for Sharing!
The 737-900 is a longer plane with no more seats then the 737-800 so there is more leg room
2:39 Lady sitting next to him sounds like she has never been on a plane before :)
BenjiMV lmfaooooo so true. and you could hear him laugh at her
Amazing as per usual
Virgin has the best safety video ever
Never have flown Virgin America but did fly coach on Alaska's 'Seattle Shuttle' from PDX on their Q400,connecting to a flight to IAH on a 737-800,first class no less(!),only time I've done so,would definitely fly AS again!
That’s so cool! Glad you enjoyed your flights😄
i flew alaska one leg and american the other and the alaska crews always seemed more helpful and more friendly
That’s what it is like sadly, the Alaska employees are way better than what was left of Virgin America
Awesome video as always =D
I wonder if Alaska Airlines will order widebody aircraft once officially merging with Virgin America.
Are you ever going to fly out of Seattle the Alaska airlines hub
Hmmm... Not real crazy about the Virgin "Mood Lighting". Perhaps it translates better in person. The menu on Alaska looks really good. Couple of items I'd like to try. Thanks for the review. Cheers...
Tony Owen yeah the lighting is a lot nicer in person.
Fruit & Cheese platter is very good.
looks nice in reality..
Where's the app link for the virtual meetup ?
Just added it! Thanks for the reminder😃
Dantorp Aviation cool ! Thanks and welcome :)
Does Virgin America is going to desapear??
Oh btw what terminal did you land at in LAX?
I'm an Alaska MVP and will get Gold this year. It was my second favorite airline behind Virgin America. I would have said VA had a little more leg room and more comfy seats. You ever did a review on AA
When will the southwest review be posted??
Today or tomorrow😃
So far Alaska Airlines says it's being very diligent in preventing a Covid outbreak, by keeping the middle seats vacant on all flights. And on their smaller planes, they're keeping the aisle seats blocked. If this is true, I love you Alaska airlines!!!!!
Like is your home airport is PDX
I wish jetBlue bought Virgin America. I feel like the companies would integrate better.
At least their fleets are better synced!😉
Jet Blue maybe is not ready to add Hawaii to its network. Alaska has built, with the VX merger, a West Coast-Hawaii powerhouse with East Coast reach. Alaska reminds me a lot of the old Western Airlines ("The oooonly way to fly!).
Jim David I agree; I also think Alaska wanted hubs in LAX/SFO
Brian Cusick Yes, that was the main point of the AKA/VA merger
Daniel, I just love your videos. Very lnformational. I love flying. Merry Xmas and a happy healthy new year to you. Best wishes from Bethlehem pa
Thanks Sandy! Merry Christmas to you too :)
Alaska remains my favorite airline.
Love these videos. Can't wait to see which one comes out on top and these are going to be helpful when looking at which airlines I would like to become flight attendant for. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Shiny!
Great video!!
Great review
tks
Do air canada vs westjet vs porter airlines. Please .. Thanks
Do economy week: Swiss, Turkish Airlines, lufthansa. Also if you have the money..... Business week!!!!
Someday🤩
Daniel, when I found out you were doing a review on Alaska Airlines I totally geeked out and I am super happy that you enjoy our product and our warm customer service! We are super proud to be number one! Please fly again from San Francisco to any of our routes and swing by and say hi to me as you’re boarding a flight! Regards! -Cristian
Alaska airlines already owns virgin America right?
Loved your video! But, you said that you had never flown on Alaska Before and then you said that you were elite with them. Not sure... Could you please explain?
I have flown Alaska
It was so good
Hi I was just wondering how you got the movies on your MacBook?
You go to the GoGo Inflight Entertainment website. You then connect to the plane’s WiFi, and it’ll redirect you to the infotainment screens. You can do this on other mobile devices, as well.
anyone have a link to websites explaining why virgin America failed??
What's your favorite aircraft?
Thank you for flying to the rose city / portland
Do Hawaiian airlines!
i always fly on Alaska Airlines. It's the only airline to fly in and out of Adak
Aside the leg room difference between Alaska and Virgin, to me Virgin America was always superior to Alaska. Not sure what went wrong on your short LAX to SFO flight. Yay, my home carpet. PDX
I can’t wait to see what happens when they’ve been fully integrated. I think we’ll get the best of both airlines :)
Try Cathay Pacific economy!
IV had 4 trips on Alaska
7:27 I thought the plane already took off
Sad that Craplaska is destroying Virgin America
I was in a dilemma on which flight to choose form SFO to Portland. Now I know... PS: I'm still waiting for the Kenya Airways Review...
Yes I’d love to fly them! I think AS is the way to go😃
I hope for the Southwest Review you're on one of their new -800s or Max 8s, because their -700s are the Worst planes in the world, especially the old liveries.
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!’
alaska airlines
based in Seattle, Washington
Hey, it’s kinda hard to have a hub farther than every single airport in America
What do you do for a living man? How do you travel all over the world on these airlines? How do you afford it? Work? Thanks! :) Love the vids!
Thanks! I’m extremely grateful that I earn some revenue on UA-cam. Together with airline miles, I have just enough to my travels :)
Dantorp Aviation Wow, really? So do you just turn around and turn back when you arrive at your destinations? In other words, you must have a reason for traveling to each place right? For business/work?
Hey Daniel - How tall are you?
Always wondering that, when you show off the leg room :)
Glædelig jul!
He's 6' 2", if I recall correctly from a previous video, doing one of the Business evals.
Thanks Tony!
Alaska is comparable to delta, American, and United, not to JetBlue and Southwest
Virgin America is such a better brand.
Alaska are getting rid of Virgin America
Which is a HUGE mistake. HUGE.
US ryanair but a bit better.
LOVE and MISS Virgin America. Not a fan of Alaska Air.
you must be getting payed to say this because alaska airlines has been our families go to airline and I hate it it has always been bad
Virgin America was super overhyped
Not at all. Their first class was the roomiest ever. Their seats were comfortable and the experience was amazing. Alaska Air has been crap. Poor customer service. Totally fucked up my flight time.
