Dennis: Colton can you review a chair for short circuit? Colton: Why can’t you? Dennis: it’s not massage chair! Also I need to plan out how to take out Linus so I can become boss of LTT! Colton: and then you will un-fire me? Dennis hesitatingly: sure Colton!
My office chair I got for free like 7 years ago is finally starting to wear out. Hearing the prices on these chairs seemed insane to me so I decided to finally look under my chair to find out the model and cost to replace it...turns out I've been sitting on a $2000 Steelcase Leap. I don't think I will ever be able to afford to replace it lol.
@@joshiepooh If you configure one on their site they range from $1173 - $2621. The ready to ship ones are on the low end. I just used the Build Yours to match the color and material(mine is leather) and it came out to $2000.
For anyone considering one of these, I would recommend checking out other reviews before deciding. Common thread seems to be the chair is decent, however it is not Herman Miller good when compared to the rest of their line up, despite carrying a Herman Miller price.
4:14 As someone that works in the plastic industry glass filled nylon is some of the best resin you an use in an application like this. It has great structural integrity and basically lasts forever. It is also a real pain in the ass to work with lol
Man, you are reminding me of my years of back pain as a teen, I'd never let my kids sit on a crap chair, any parent that thinks they are saving money by not buying a proper chair for their kids, have fun with all the medical bills when they got chronic back pain 3 years later
I worked at cascade engineering for a few years making parts for hermin miller. Mostly for the Mirra chairs. When I left, I purchased one and still have it over 10 years later. Hermin Miller has great r&d going into their products to be sustainable, comfy, and resilient even if they are a little pricey compared to other brands. The glass filled nylon has the benefits of being "springy" and tougher than other plastics. But dropping the glass filled nylon will give you a heart attack as it sounds like a thousand glass cups hitting the floor and shattering.
But for sure, I can BET, anyone can get MANY other options BETTER than this chair for that money, him saying "only $999" for this and going for it instead of the Embody, shows he sits in a $150 chair. Is the chair bad? for that price? yes, for $500-$600 maybe not? would be a good pick, and still, I would go for something else after watching all the reviews out there and on r/officechairs
@@FcoEnriquePerez But it's crazy to think that we have to spend this much $$$ just for a decent chair. I've personally bought so many of those popular typical ''gaming chairs'' that are usually priced between $100-400. They are ALL complete sh**. Cheap plastics and they break within a year or two and the cushions flatten out completely. It's bad.
@@wombat5252 fool me once, shame on you...but yeah seriously, "gaming chairs" are absolutely terrible. A decent office chair can't be beaten, & Herman Miller make decent office chairs. I bought an Aeron secondhand & my only regret is not just buying a new one to make sure I have that lovely warranty just in case.
Bought a refurbed HM Aeron 3 years ago for $600 and I’ve never been more pleased with a purchase. If something does end up breaking, parts are readily available and much cheaper than buying another chair (I believe the bottom mesh cushion is about $125 for a replacement).
@@FcoEnriquePerez I don't agree with the pricing even if it was $500. The seat pad is just going to bottom out as the last few guys noted, they were ALREADY feeling the plank in the chair. If it was more in the lines of $100 then yeah I guess okay if you're fine with something that will wear out in a year or two of constant use. For the same price if you don't have an issue with your tailbone you should buy an Herman Miller Sayl office chair edition for that lumbar support. Or for a bit less you can buy an refurbished leap v2 chair through Crandall office where they replace the seat and back foam with 3/4" thicker foam and you get a pretty impressive warranty.
I had a maxnomic gaming char for years and struggled with back pain if I spent more than a couple hours at my desk. I tried upgrading to the herman miller aeron and even after a couple months with it, still had the back pain. I got a steelcase gesture and within a week my backpain was gone and hasn't returned since. Chairs are so much about finding the right fit for your body, so it can take some work and reviews can only help so much without trying it for yourself.
I've never sat in a Steelcase chair that bothered me. I bought my Leap v2 on sale for $850 about 8 years ago, and it's still like new. Knowing what I know now, I'd have paid full price for it.
@@ribstogo12 Definitely worth it? I've gone through so many ''gaming chairs'' it's not even funny. Your typical popular $100-400 gaming chair brands....They're all dog sh** and break within a year or two and that's if you're really babying them to. I think I'm going to make an expensive move because it's costing m the same replacing my chairs every damn year. I'm close to average weight for my height at around 200lb, so I'm not even pushing their limits yet they still break easily. It's ridiculous.
@@wombat5252 definitely... I've saved money over the long run by buying an expensive chair up front, and your back will thank you from day 1. Buy direct and save your receipts. Not sure if they still do this, but when I bought mine, SC's warranty included in home service to fix any issues that probably won't arise (they're rock solid chairs).
@@ribstogo12 Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to be looking into those SC chairs. I'm sick of replacing my chairs every year. I thought I was saving money but obviously not. It's just wild to think about spending $1000+ on a chair though.
@@wombat5252 have you had an andaseat kaiser 3? that's what i'm getting ready to order and according to the majority of reviews they're pretty durable. the thing weighs 61 pounds so it should be pretty solid. it's $420 right now. i thought about an office chair but couldn't really find one with a high back. even most of the ones with a headrest people say the headrest doesn't reach anywhere near their head and it would be more comfortable without the headrest digging into their upper back. i really like the white vantum in this video, but $1,000 is too steep for me.
My Herman Miller Aeron chair just turned 11 years old and is still working great. I have used it as my only gaming and home office chair for over a decade. The price at the time of purchasing did feel high, but now that I average out the price to the amount of use it has seen it doesn't feel that expensive anymore. That chair has moved house with me three times and doesn't show signs of breaking down. I have added an aftermarket head rest to it as originally it did not have one.
Agreed. I feel like if you're going into this price bracket, might as well spring for an Aeron. More customizability, probably longer lasting since it's suuuper easy to find replacement parts, and all around a great chair. Never been a fan of gaming chairs, they always seem like a ripoff depending on how long the seat foam holds up
About 5 years ago, the company my dad works at downsized and their office department were getting rid of their office chairs. At the time I wasn't familiar with the name Herman Miller, but I knew office departments were known to have high-end chairs. There were a few good condition chairs at my dad's work and he told me I should swing by and take one home. So I drove the 5 mile round trip to picknone up and use in my room. It was a very comfy mesh office chair, a bit used and worn in, but I loved it. It wasn't until a few months later, after watching a LTT/Gamers Nexus video on office vs gamer chairs, that I realized that my chair looked very similar to the Herman Miller that was being shown. I searched for markings on my chair to see if my hunch was correct, and lo and behold, it turned out my chair was indeed a genuine Herman Miller Aeron. I had essentially paid less than $2 USD in gas for an HM Aeron. I later found an aftermarket headrest designed by former HM Aeron designers that aleviated the lack of head support for the Aeron too. Years later and even after it's use in the office space, this chair still holds up to it's design and quality and has easily been the best money I never spent for my setup
That similarly happened to me many years ago, no joke. Friend owned a company and had a bunch of office chairs that he didn't need. He let me take it home. Lasted me probably 7 or so years which is good for an already used office chair. I can't remember the brand anymore but I remember looking into it see the original price. I couldn't believe that I had a $1400 chair for free. LOL the thing was so sturdy and strong. The fabric finally started ripping and the bottom broke but man that thing lasted so long and was SUPER comfortable.
Hey all, Thank you for actually having people of different sizes sitting in the chair. That helps out as I am a big boy and would like to know how the seat feels. Makes me feel included, thanks!
I'd always recommend to check office surplus sites/stores for used/refurb versions of the high end Herman Miller chairs like the Aeron. Picked one up for £260 shortly after WFH started.
Refurbed Aerons and Mirras are around $500-650 depending where you get them from my area or online. The former I only have one option in a used furniture dealer without warranty and otherwise the minute amount of local private sellers if any. For people like me you can only really pick them up used or refurbed online and hopefully with a warranty with a legit refurbed site.
I’ve missed Colton videos, especially Colton chair videos. He needs to be out of the office doing business deals and on camera more! My favorite part of his chair videos are how uncomfortable the staff/whoever they wrangle to test out the chairs look. 😂
This shortcircuit was so entertaining while hitting all the points of a short circuit. Kind of wish the audio could have been fixed to actually reflect the USD pricing error aside from the subtitles, but overall was really good! The speed run and getting others in the office to try it was great, and I really liked the anecdotes comparing other chairs!
my favorite part about this chair is that it has "gamer" aesthetic while ditching the horrendous bucket seats. We've been pretending those nightmares are comfy for way too long.
@@suppressed_viii No bucket is only comfortable if you are as thin as an racing pilot ...which are the people the bucket seat was originally created for.
@@WyvernVin I have a SecretLab chair, its comfortable. I just follow 2 simple rules tho. I let myself slouch. And if I feel any soreness, I switch positions. I don't have any issues.
The chair market really tends to be as Colton put it - you get what you pay for. After going through multiple chairs in the past from Staples, I had enough. I picked up an Aeron earlier this year and I've thoroughly loved it ever since. The *only* shortcoming I've encountered with it was the frame design and how it can cut into your legs if you're not sat right, and the fact it didn't come with a headrest. As far as I am aware, this is pretty well the only HM product to come direct from the factory with a headrest. Glad to see a more moderately priced HM product that can last for a long time! Thanks for looking into it, ShortCircuit fellows!
@bigguschungus968 I did, actually! It's a very comfortable headrest. Might get the mesh version too, just in case I want to have the breathability for hotter days.
Finally, a gaming chair that doesn't look like a bucket seat. Still can't figure out why gaming brands always went for the most uncomfortable shape back then.
I love that linus came in an shat on the chair... It actually gives me hope that their views are their own and not bought by the sponsors or fancy products.

As someone that has worked from home for the last ~5 years.. probably the best thing I've bought is a professional office chair (I got a Herman Miller Embody). It was definitely expensive, but given that I spend 8+ hours a day sitting in it, it was absolutely worth it. I had not realized how much the chairs I've had in the past messed up my back - switching absolutely fixed that problem. As I see it, it was money well spent.
Hermann Miller Embody all the way... Bought one during Black Friday and can't believe how good it is 😍 seeing this new one makes me even happier about getting the Embody!
@@IcalebthelionI Agreed but I feel it doesn't really need it because of the shape of the back rest, but that's just me 🤷♂️ interested to see the Atlas headrest when it's released though!
After having a BodyBilt chair at work, when I started working at home, I couldn't stand a cheaper chair and spent the money on a BodyBilt GX7 "Gaming" chair that is built the same but with fun colors. It has been well worth the money having a good chair to sit and work all day programming and then spend hours gaming in the evening. My back and butt don't hurt even after 12-14 hours of sitting. The other thing about having a good brand is if there is a part that goes bad, you can get replacement parts and not just dump the entire Chinese chair.
I was lucky enough to score a pair of Herman Miller Sayl chairs this summer for $50 I needed to replace the gas cylinders and their arm pads. Such a good bargain. Getting a used high end chair is a decent move if you can find ones in decent shape for a good price.
I tried that and didn't find it had enough back support for me. I have a bad back. The Aeron is serving me well though. But sayl for $50! What a bargain, and looks great too!
I bought a Sayl for my home office just because it looks gorgeous, but I too have bought a used Aeron at a corporate fire sale. I think I paid £430 for it, when it is ~£1000 new. Still using it 3yrs later, no issues whatsoever.
As a 133lb, 5.9" person this chair is amazing. Everyone has their opinions and bias but its hard to tell from reviews, etc. Best to try in person. 30 day easy return policy, great 12 yr warranty. My last chair was terrible and only after getting this one do I realize it. You can adjust resistance and sit up or lounge etc. Work and game all day without issues, hopefully it continues to impress.
I have a Steelcase Leap which is a similarly probably too expensive ergo chair, but it's a gamechanger if you spend a lot of time in it. I used a Herman Miller Aeron at work and the Leap at home. Both are awesome and way better than anything from Office Depot or similar. But I prefer the Leap. Get those butts in proper chairs gamers. Your backs will thank you lmao.
@TwinTurbo Ray Like I said, they are quality chairs, I can understand $1k, but a lot of their chairs go over that, even without the upgrades. You're simply paying for the brand. There are other chairs that cost less, last a long time, and are very similar in ergonomics, features and quality. This whole "if you don't own a Herman Miller chair, you are slowly killing yourself" is so weird.. but I guess you do own 3, so you have to justify it somehow.
@NakedTrashPanda no, you're the one justifying not spending the cash. A lot of assertions from someone who's only sat I an ikea chair. I have a haworth fern, if you wanted it speed the same it'd cost 1,400. It has the best lumbar, best flexibility, but best contact surfaces of any chair I've ever sat in. It made my lower back pain disappear in 7 days. Like you, before I ever experienced this sort of chair I wasn't sure how they'd justify the price, but they most certainly did.
I love this chair. The only complaint I have is the front/back/side armrest adjustments move too easily as the don't lock...up and down is great and with little play. For reference, I am 6'2", 190lbs. You might think you are bottoming out on the seat, but you're not, it's just a firm pad that gets more firm the deeper you sink. The chair is mostly plastic but feels premium and make is light and easy to move when you need to. The headrest is amazing and I am glad you have to stand up to adjust it up and down. The lumbar is great as well. I got the black one because I'm not 12.
Got the Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody chair back around release day. Tried some Herman Miller chairs in my previous job which got to get the Embody instead of the Aeron. When I bought the Embody, it was $1400 before the price increase.
As I was watching this, I realized my current chair had slowly sank over the last 2-3 hours of sitting and my back/hips were killing me. I went ahead and yolo'd a Vantum on the spot since I've been lusting after it and the Embody for a few months now. The included headrest is really what sold me on the Vantum. Let's gooooooo
Bruh, I hope u did not buy the Vantum based ONLY on this video alone. Please please do some proper research b4 buying the HM Vantum. This video is one of the most empty-handed takes on this chair and the chair is way worse than it actually seems in this video. They didn't even mention the major cons of this chair like the fact that the seat depth is too shallow even at its max position and that the awful headrest is next to impossible to adjust while sitting down in the chair without breaking your fingers. The sizing is atrocious on this chair, especially for a Herman Miller one, and the build quality is below my expectations of what I expect a Herman Miller product to be. I'm honestly shocked that HM even included the same 12-year warranty for the Vantum as they did for their higher-end chairs like the Embody and Aeron. I HIGHLY recommend u watch other reviews of this chair like from Ahnestly and BTODtv b4 making a final decision on buying this chair.
@@drewhinners8793 HM support is fantastic, if you get in contact now before the product ships they'll change the order within 2 days. But like Dylan Loo said, you should check out other reviews. Your height&weight are very important factors in picking a chair, it should be sized to fit you. Where you need support, how you use the chair, the temperature of the room, etc. all matter in what makes a good chair. If you want to be held in place to get max spine alignment, chairs like the vantum and aeron are good, along with other hard frame mesh chairs. If you like to stretch, the haworth fern, ergochair pro+ and embody are great options. Steelcase offers a middle ground, and their chairs are fabric with cushion, making them warmer than mesh chairs. BTOD and Ahnestly are the two best channels for chair reviews, probably.
Interesting... for me Steelcase Leap is the holy grail of ergo chair. I used to run the ergoprogram for the company I worked for and always got better comments from Steelcase chairs. We had SC Leaps, Gestures, Series 1 vs HM Embody, Amias and Aeron.
So I ordered one of these chairs on the day this video released. It arrived yesterday and I can already say it's worth every penny. The amount of ergonomic adjustment tops any gaming chair I've ever seen and most office chairs outside of other Herman Millers or Steelcase. The Vantum definitely outclasses any other "gaming chair" and could easily be used as a daily office chair.
I've had the Herman Miller Embody and the Aeron. To be honest, I didn't like the hard edges on the Aeron and the Embody simply felt hard, it even made my tailbone hurt after a week. I currently use a Secret lab Titan that I've had for 3,5 years and I think it's better for me. It's also a 3rd of the cost which is nice.
Man, I'm so glad to see LTT getting into the Holiday Spirit this December by getting Ralphie from A Christmas Story to review a chair! Love you guys! ;)
herman miller embody here, after a lot of research and agonizing over the costs. no regrets. the lean back and stretch is soo good. i am on the heavy side, so i always think the back will give out when i stretch out and it just doesn't. work from home too, and had back issues made worse by my old chair so needed something that wouldn't mess me up in the long run. on the waitlist for the atlas headrest for this thing, can't wait..
If a chair costs a grand and Linus, who probably doesn't even weigh 70kg, can tell the bottom cushionning is too shallow by sitting on it for twelve seconds, then maybe it's not a good product.
As someone who has had crap chairs in the past but is currently using a Steelcase, chairs are absolutely something where you get what you pay for. And for the health benefits from a well designed ergonomic chair, it's well worth it.
Couldn't agree more. I just recently did a desk overhaul, I got a sit/stand desk, and a nice ergo chair at a steal. I'm 6'8" (just over 2m in metric), I haven't sat in a desk/chair and had lumbar support where I need it in over a decade.
I got this chair right when it came out and I love it. It replaced my Haworth Zody that I had for many years. Setup was easy and controls are easy to use, the only thing I wish it had was swivel armrests and that the arms don't go low enough for my use cases, I often play guitar and it can sometime get in the way.
Finally a gaming chair i would actually buy! I really dont like these "typical" gaming chair's like the one PewDiePie uses. This one is mostly an office chair with "gaming" design which would fit perfectly in my setup!
I use office chairs, I code a lot too. My best chair so far costed 25€ new. Theres a point of diminishing returns and it can be achieved with a small investment if you get lucky
Yea I agree. I had a "racing" chair, but went to an Autonomous Ergochair 2, and I love it. Probably wont upgrade until I decide to spend the money on a Herman Miller.
I think it would be hard to buy a chair online, just for the body type factor. I appreciate the review but I think that without actually sitting on a piece of furniture it would be too hard to buy something based on what a person says about it. My biggest problem is I live 5 hours from the nearest store that might actually carry anything like this...
Make it a nice trip. I'm in a similar situation, called some places before to make sure they had the models I wanted to try. Spend 2 days on it, now I'm set for at least 12 years :)
I was kinda lucky, when WFH started, I saw that the company that made the chairs from our office also sells retail, so I could buy the same exact chair I was used to for me. But every other chair I had before, I bought in person
@@squidwardo7074not sure these days, i used to go to Staples a lot, IKEA has a decent selection (but it is IKEA). I don't have a microcenter or best buy close but I'd wager they might be a good bet
I have a haworth fern, it's fantastic. The digital knit fabric, no headrest, with adjustable lumbar if you like aggressive lumbar, and without if you don't want aggressive lumbar is the best loadout.
Not sure if it just hasn’t reached Canada yet. I have an ergo tune chair from a company in Singapore. Easily the best chair I have ever used, has every single one of these features and more, looks nicer and costs $300 USD delivered. No idea why there are not more people raving about this chair
I was looking at these and others last month, $200 Staples chair was the end of its life (more like a year plus past it) and was not going to keep buying a chair that was destroying my body and needed to be replaced every 1-3 years. Ended up getting a Steelcase Gesture and I'm probably still in the honeymoon period, but this might be the best money I've ever spent. If you can justify it, which is a major purchase, get one of these "real" chairs from a reputable brand that will last for well over a decade (even if you have to go down in their lines) over something that you see people getting paid to sell you on their streams. Unfortunately, furniture has been something that's been hugely impacted by inflation this year - good office furniture is up 30-40% from the most reputable companies from the start of the year.
Bought mine used through a ebay seller that deals in refurbed office equipment for $500, did not come with the headrest and I wish the seat was a little cushier but would agree with you that it's a great chair.
I mean its not uncommon companies put up their aerons (which can go up to $2K) for $100 or even free because it "looks like a regular chair". Just because something isnt flashy doesnt mean its features or quality is somehow less valuable
@@userblame632 And just because something is valuable doesn't mean you should be charged out the nose for it. Like air for example. It's just a friecking chair. It's a few bits of simple metal, plastic, and fabric, arranged together. All it has to do is sit there and not hurt my back. But when people get into that whole, _“OOOh you can't put a price on the health of your spine!”_ well then suddenly $10,000 is technically a bargain. Every company wants you to think they deeply researched the complexities of the human spine at the atomic level. No they just copied the design of someone else's chair. We've had the chair pretty much figured out for over a hundred years. Now all of a sudden a *_thousand dollars_* is being talked about like it's a bargain. It's absolute insanity.
@@naryanr do you need to spend 1K to find a good ergonomic chair? No, but will finding a cheaper ergonomic chair be easier than buying one from steelcase or herman miller? Companies which have long warranties, retail stores so you can pick a chair which fits you best, and are proven to be good quality (since most companies use them due to their durability and comfort)? No. A thousand dollars isnt a bargain but its a bargain for a chair from this company. Its like Porsche making a 40K car. Its not a bargain overall but for that company it is. I beg to differ that these expensive ergo chairs are just "copied designs" and the chair doesnt need to be more complex than plywood arranged at a right angle. Ive sat in plenty of chairs and all of them get really uncomfortable. Chairs in college are comfortable for an hour or two, but at the end of a lecture im itching to move. Ive sat in a couple chairs for home use and all of them get uncomfortable. Hell one even started giving me back pain. I have an aeron and it wasnt cheap by any means (buy used. Like i said, if youre lucky you could pick one up for $100), but I can literally sit in it for 16 hours with the straightest back ever (whereas for normal chairs I sink down) and I dont feel uncomfortable at all. Its honestly almost detrimental since it prevents me from walking around (since cheap chairs hurt so I need to take a break), but thats cause im lazy.
Watched the video, looked at the price, said "meh" and ordered some sort a Frankenstein chair from a handyman for $240 which is basically it. You're doing great as a Herman Miller brand ambassador, keep at it! (thumbs up)
The plank thing was super useful. I have a 300 dollar chair that offers many of the features of that chair but feels hard. Knowing even Linus, a much smaller dude, feels the wood (!) definitely rules that chair out.
I was looking at $1,300-$1,500 chairs. Found a video that recommended a chair that you can typically get for $170. Union & Scale Hyken that you can get from staples or amazon. Don't regret it at all.
@@tuckertech I have this chair as well - tbh i think it's on par with an aeron with regards to comfort. An aeron is probably much higher quality parts and materials but for straight up comfort I am completely satisfied with this chair at 1/4 the cost.
@@SlickShoes I have both a fully loaded Aeron remastered with an Atlas headrest and a Hyken. The Hyken is definitely not on par. Although I do agree, assuming the Hyken holds up decently well, it is probably the best bang for the buck office chair.
@@nerdstrangler4804 as far as build quality it's definitely not on par. 100% agree, but I have never really gotten comfortable in an aeron for some reason. They are not one and the same though, I just think the Hyken is very good bang for your buck.
And it wouldn't fit most body types anyway coz the armrests seem to be designed for taller people, but the seat depth is way too shallow and seems to be designed for shorter people. Herman Miller completely missed the mark with the sizing and measurements on this chair. Check out this video and you'll know what I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/feIaY_XlG4I/v-deo.html.
Vantum, but before you buy it I would check out BTOD and Ahnestly's reviews of it. imo the fern is the best chair, and it's not even the most expensive. the best spec of haworth fern for comfort is the digital knit, optional lumbar support, no headrest, no forward tilt (it's not a great forward tilt mechanism, it only effects the seat pan, not the back and arm rests). It offers comparable maybe more adjustability than the embody, comparable flexibility out of the back, and the fact that it narrows as you go up the back means your shoulders have better range of motion.
So for UK gamers the $795 US becomes £1,126 which even taking into account tax is about 40% more expensive! Wonder how they justify such a crazy price, even if you import it from the US with VAT that still works out over £300 cheaper...
I'd say importers have to pay that tax too therefore the price diff in Europe. I guess it's meant to incentivize buying local European products before considering products from abroad.
@@g0mium Yeah you could be right, although most companies tend to offer at least a somewhat reasonable international price considering it's directly from HM instead of a third party importer - they surely have some kind of European distribution network?

I've sat in plenty of Herman Miller and Steelcase - I'll take Steelcase 100% of the time. Back only recline prevents my legs from falling asleep causing me pain while allowing me to stay comfortable.
I bought a Secret Lab Titan back in 2020. My biggest complaint is that the seat cushion isn't cushion-y enough. After two years, I had to buy a memory foam cushion to make it comfortable again. The Herman Miller chair reviewed here seems to have a similar issue.
Wait the seat doesn't tilt? for 900 dollars? I was looking for a new chair, my GT omega is worn out. But I want full and locking tilt. I'm a desk racer. i hope you guys are gonna do more chair reviews.
I used to have a 300 dollar gaming chair from DXRacer. Always backproblems and sweaty chair in the summer. Now I have a the Herman Miller Aeron (was around 1300 dollar) and my backproblems are over and no more sweaty sessions. If you can afford it, spend a little more on a chair you sit in a few hours a day. It's worth it.
This seems like a $300-$400 chair for $800. It is probably a decent chair and perhaps it is made from better materials then the ones that are half the price, but a good bit of that price is probably the Herman Miller tax. I never have tried a Herman Miller, but I have tried a couple of of very similar chairs from autonomous and dourest that cost about $300-$400. They are decent chairs, but not really worth even that price in my opinion. My favorite chair has ended up being a cheap $150 all mesh chair that I got from Staples, despite being less then half the price of some of my other chairs I find it more comfortable and after 2 years of very hard use (I work form home, then usually game after work so I sit in it 12+ hours a day) The chair shows very few signs of wear, so I expect it to last me a number of years. If ever buy a Herman Miller I would get one of their super expensive chairs that at least are different from what you can get from other brands, these basic ones are just too much like chairs you can get elsewhere for a fraction of the price.
I'm glad you're happy with your purchase, not everyone needs to spend money on an ergo chair to sit comfortably. However, there is a reason for the price, part of the cost is the 12 year warranty, they basically price in two chairs. It also includes shipping costs, but these ergo chairs have large design teams for aesthetics, engineering and kinesthesiology. There are a significant portion of aerons that live to be 30 from the aeron v1, so you may never have to buy an office chair again. I have a haworth fern, and I've never sat in something so comfortable in my life. I had a Autonomous ErgoChair Pro+, it was too small for me. I hated the lack of adjustable lumbar, and the width at the shoulders was really awkward. The fern narrows as you go up the back, so at the top I have free range of motion, and the chair has even better flexibility. I like the adjustment systems more, too. It's also significantly quieter. I do have a complaint but it is a noticeable standard of living upgrade over everything else I've tried.
People really need to consider getting better chairs. Steelcase or Herman Miller do actually make a big difference. I was working from home and doing gaming in the same chair every day for like 11 hours total for a period, so I decided I needed something better than a run of the mill 'leather' office chair that everyone for some reason just acquires lmao. I researched it and heard great things about the Ikea Markus. So I went down to Ikea and bought one for I believe around $200. It was a nice design and a step up, but I was still uncomfortable at the end of the day. So I searched for something better. The two options that are by far the most popular are the Herman Miller Aeron and the Steelcase Leap (which I've had for 6 years now.) They're really expensive new so I decided to check Craigslist. I found a company who liquidates office furniture (from a failed tech business who had 50 high end chairs for their employees for example) and they had a pretty big store where they had them all on display. So I was able to checkout both the Aeron and Leap. The Aeron was really comfy, but something about the Leap was more comfortable after spending like 20 minutes thoroughly looking at each one. I left with a Steelcase Leap for $150 in great shape. Stopped at the store on the way home and grabbed some upholstery cleaner and a brush. The chairs looked mint but still, a used chair is kind of strange lol. Spent 20 minutes cleaning the hell out of the chair and let it air dry for a day or two. Edit: I should note, I've been using an Aeron at work in the office for 2 years now and it's 95% as good, but it's all personal preference. I prefer the fabric upholstery over pure mesh. The first day I used that thing I was blown away. I didn't have any back pain or discomfort at all (and as I mentioned, I was spending a ridiculous amount of time in it due to circumstances at the time.) I didn't have any weird feelings in my lower back or anything of the sort which I always had to atleast some level with the other chairs mentioned. These ergonomic chairs have a ton of adjustability so after you use it for a few weeks you can really dial it in to what works best for you and it gets even a little better. I really can't recommend a proper ergonomic chair enough. I was putting them through an extreme use case. But even if you only use it for 10 hours a week, that still is a long long time over the course of say 20 years. Constantly sitting in an improper chair is going to come back to bite you over a long enough period. One thing to mention is that neither the Steelcase or Herman Miller felt like a cloud when I first sat down in it. I feel people really get deceived by judging a chair based on that. It's not supposed to be extremely comfortable right away. If that were to be the case then it definitely wouldn't have proper support. These chairs are supposed to keep your body aligned in the proper way so when you spend hours and hours in that same (or similar) position, it will put as little strain on your body as possible. That's the important part. Not sinking into it with comfort like you would a La-Z-Boy or whatever. If you spend a lot of time in your chair (or especially work from home) then you should consider investing in a quality chair built for the task. Your back will thank you at some point. Nowadays I would just shell out for a new chair because I've seen the light. But back then I didn't know how much I bought in and couldn't justify throwing down that much cash. So if you're on a budget, definitely check around for used office supply stores. As I said, a lot of these chairs were probably barely used and came from the storage room from some failed tech startup. You can get em for a bargain, they're built to last and parts are readily available should you need to fix it. Or don't and buy whatever garbage your favorite Twitch streamer is pushing, I'm not your mom lmaooo
if someone says they can feel the base under the cushion on their first sit - i'm immediately out. i've got the secret lab titan and only after 3 years can i feel the base, which is mainly in the center, as the outside of the base seems to use metal struts with like 5-6 inches of foam. it was like half the price of this thing.
The first times I heard the price my brain kept blocking out the $900 and just kept the $95 lmao. I know 'gamer chairs' can be expensive but lordy I barely want to spend $100 on a chair let alone basically 10 times the amount. For those that can afford/enjoy these types of chairs I do hope you get something out of them.
Its a herman miller, its a brand name office chair where companies are able to write off the cost to a great degree. So the actual cost to the company is 1700 - tax write offs the gamer chairs can't be less expensize otherwise it would be devaluing the brand. Also lot easier spending a companys money on an expensive chair vs your own wallet
I worked selling office furniture. The quality is completely different. These brands are weighted for higher weights, stronger builds, better components, rated to be sat on for longer and adjustable where it’s needed. I bought a Herman Miller decade after working there for home and another for work because my companies a tight arse. If you have back issues, tall or work long hours sitting down they are worth it. A good mattress is about the same and I spend more hours in the chair then I do in bed.
@@justbob333 You're also paying for the 12 year warranty, they price in 2 chairs essentially. But if you've never sat in one of these chairs, you don't know what your missing. My back doesn't hurt when I'm standing anymore, after 1 week in an awesome new chair.
when this came out, i went to the local Herman Miller store to try it out. I am used to an aeron, and I found the vantum to be very cheap feeling compared to it. Not that it makes the chair bad (especially for like half the price) but I was disappointed by it compared to the quality I'm used to with Herman Miller
Also, how to adjust a chair to sit properly is important to know if you sit a lot. This video is a good starting point, and there are more videos in the playlist it's in if you want to know more: ua-cam.com/video/Du0VU0hOvlQ/v-deo.html
I'm kind of surprised that they didn't scan the QR code and check out the adjustment instructions for this chair (as mentioned on the box near the beginning).
I went with the Aeron after trying this. It was almost 2x fully optioned but I will be sitting in it for a long time to come between work and gaming. As far as I know they all come with 12yr warranties
@@TimI1S It's a chair. I have a really nice one. Cost me $129 two years ago. Comfy, adjustable, rolls nicely, looks good, and holds my oversized butt. No office chair (and that's what it is) should cost a grand. That's just silly. Buy a $150 chair and put the other $850 into a better computer. That $850 will buy you TWO 4TB NVMe SSD's....
I have a 10yr old Herman Miller Mira. This thing has zero mesh sag. it's indestructible also weighs 40kg too. So yeah. heavy boi. To those who can't afford brand new. Second hand these are still worth it, as the warranty is for the chair. doesn't matter who owns it. Also a refurbished chair is much cheaper, and way worth it over say. any other chair you can get for $400 AUD. so you can get these affordably. Not unheard of them lasting 20+ years.
This was my first namebrand chair, i returned it fairly shortly after receiving it for mostly 3 reasons, it's very small, and I think this magnifies the other two issues significantly, other reviews said they wouldn't recommend it for people over 5 10 and i'd agree, the back is comfortable for the most part and it of course breathes well, but the hard plastic edge of the seat dug into my shoulders pretty bad causing discomfort, the lumbar support is surprisingly comfortable but I find it irritating that its only directly in the middle so if you were to sit on it any other way it's gonna feel weird (yeah yeah ergonomics) and most crucially the seat hurt my tailbone and put my ass to sleep, don't know what it was but i quickly resorted to putting a pillow on the seat and even then that didn't help much. Headrest also sucks but is removable so nbd. if you are a smaller frame person im sure it's a great chair, wouldn't recommend for big people, in general would encourage people to wait for sales, I ended up getting a $1500 chair for the same price.
I've been using a big banking office chair for like four years now. My parents got it maybe fifteen years ago? Much of the leather has worn off, but I just draped a blanket over it that I swap out/wash routinely, and it's incredibly comfortable. Way comfier than any office or "gamer" chair I've sat in. There is no head support, though. One day I want to try out a suite of Herman Miller chairs and see if anything can dethrone my throne. Until then, banker chair all the way.
Haworth and Steelcase are great brands, too. The Haworth Fern is similar to the embody in terms of back support design, but imo offers better range of motion when you don't spec it with a headrest.
In comparison the Embody gaming that I recently received and started using is a **GODSEND** and honestly I love it so damn much. Vantrum is cool and all, but I guess just not for most people on the market which is fine, Herman Miller is still the best out there.
Looks nice, I have to say I really like Herman Miller chairs. We've had Herman Miller Mirra 2 chairs at work since 2019 and I've loved them. I have back issues and had gone through many cheap desk chairs every few years, in 2020 we went remote and I grabbed a nicer desk chair from a local retailer, but it still was causing back pain with long sessions which my work chair did not, so in 2021 I gave that chair to my wife and just bought the Mirra 2. So happy I did, especially with the long warranty and comfort and support it gives me. They do offer financing options too. I do have to mention I am a bit heavier, and really like this chair, my wife is smaller and doesn't find the Mirra 2 as comfortable for her, and my second hand chair wasn't the best for her either, so did pick her up a purple Secretlab Titan Evo - Small this year, and it is working well for her, but is on the firmer side. But having owned a bunch of different desk chairs and sitting in a wide variety at work it is really apparent to me now on differences in comfort and build quality between them, and I highly recommend if you are not comfortable with what you have it is worth the investment. Those cheaper options below $400 were working for me for years, but they would wear down very quickly, felt cheap, were not comfortable for long periods of time. The Secretlab chairs are definitely a level up, feel better quality than the cheaper chairs. But when you move up to Herman Miller with like the Mirra 2 everything feels substantially higher quality.
Tried a 1000€ mesh chair once -.- NEVER AGAIN and everything with the name of a person as designer is Snake Oil for me... Typing that while sitting on a Recaro Exo FX.... Best chair i tested so far with good Lumbar support, and the Quality of this chair is giving me the assurance that after the last jears i will only replace it if i don't like it anymore. Even the wheels still work perfectly... And as a "Gamer" i can slouch on that in the upright position into a lying position to watch movies and i dont need to be afraid i slip off because the Upholstery holds you for good. So comfy i fall asleep regularly after work watching the UA-cam flow...
ill stick with my secret lab titan '20 its two years old and still looks and feels brand new perfect for spending hours gaming and studying and my back never hurts and its like a third of the price

I had to look up what a $2k Steelcase Leap looked like. The most expensive configuration is $1380. Am I missing something?
Just get a refurbished or used.

What part of the Leap is wearing out? Maybe you can replace that part?
For anyone considering one of these, I would recommend checking out other reviews before deciding. Common thread seems to be the chair is decent, however it is not Herman Miller good when compared to the rest of their line up, despite carrying a Herman Miller price.

Knowing what I know now, I'd have paid full price for it.

i thought about an office chair but couldn't really find one with a high back. even most of the ones with a headrest people say the headrest doesn't reach anywhere near their head and it would be more comfortable without the headrest digging into their upper back.
i really like the white vantum in this video, but $1,000 is too steep for me.
Hey all,
Thank you for actually having people of different sizes sitting in the chair.
Same, I got a Mirra for £150. It's pink though, but can't complain. It's not a good fit for me though so I am looking to move it on.
Damn, my secondhand Aeron cost me £400! Kinda wish I'd just bought one new for the full warranty tbh.
I got the Embody Gaming Chair from Herman Miller too. It is really nice and wouldn't trade but its insanely expensive compared to the Vantum.
The embody really is my perfect chair, although I've heard that one company is planning on making a headrest for it and that would be tempting

The *only* shortcoming I've encountered with it was the frame design and how it can cut into your legs if you're not sat right, and the fact it didn't come with a headrest.

I have a Mira 2 and love it. It was probably way too expensive, but it really is better than just about any other chair I've sat in
I have a Steelcase Leap which is a similarly probably too expensive ergo chair, but it's a gamechanger if you spend a lot of time in it. I used a Herman Miller Aeron at work and the Leap at home. Both are awesome and way better than anything from Office Depot or similar. But I prefer the Leap. Get those butts in proper chairs gamers. Your backs will thank you lmao.
When you think about the cost of repairing or replacing your back with surgery or PT, the chairs are cheap.
@TwinTurbo Ray They are quality chairs, but saying a chair over $500 is not expensive is just delusional.
When I bought the Embody, it was $1400 before the price increase.
it was on sale for 1286.50€ a week ago.
just ordered one :)
I have a wheelchair as my gaming chair. Not very comfortable, but I can roll around my room when I get bored which is fun.
Yeah the lack of headrest really puts me off the Embody
@@Reaga85 I think my biggest regret might be I chose the red/black and I think I should have gotten the white/black. I may contact support.
I have an Aeron. Absolutely worth every penny, lasts a lifetime, and is super comfy.
That Linus pillow in the background is going to haunt my nightmares...
also nice chair btw!
Bell wearing a Super Mega shirt. its good to see a fellow Meg-head on the LTT crew. Matt and Ryan will be proud
I was looking for this lmao
As someone who has had crap chairs in the past but is currently using a Steelcase, chairs are absolutely something where you get what you pay for. And for the health benefits from a well designed ergonomic chair, it's well worth it.
Couldn't agree more. I just recently did a desk overhaul, I got a sit/stand desk, and a nice ergo chair at a steal. I'm 6'8" (just over 2m in metric), I haven't sat in a desk/chair and had lumbar support where I need it in over a decade.
I now work for an FAA contractor, and the office chairs they have at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center are all either HermanMiller or SteelCase.
Love seeing Linus take the skrewdriver out of his pocket any time he needs to sit down😂
Bought the embody during BF for 1220€, insane quality 👌🏻
I am waiting for Atlas to release its headrest tough 😬
Where did you buy it from
@@Paronak HM website this past Black Friday
I worked at Herman for 18 years I am glad to hear such positive things.
You think it's actually better than the Embody?
@@CapFlipGaming for some yes some no depends on the person you really need to go sit in it and test it out to see if it’s right for you
I think it would be hard to buy a chair online, just for the body type factor.
@@HanCurunyr that's super lucky, not quite sight unseen but close enough.
where can you even go to try out office chairs?
@@squidwardo7074not sure these days, i used to go to Staples a lot, IKEA has a decent selection (but it is IKEA). I don't have a microcenter or best buy close but I'd wager they might be a good bet
I have a haworth fern, it's fantastic. The digital knit fabric, no headrest, with adjustable lumbar if you like aggressive lumbar, and without if you don't want aggressive lumbar is the best loadout.
Love to see Bell reping the supermega boys
I use an old couch cushion, propped up against the wall. Works just fine.
Most of these "reputable brands" are so overpriced, it borders on insanity.
Bought mine used through a ebay seller that deals in refurbed office equipment for $500, did not come with the headrest and I wish the seat was a little cushier but would agree with you that it's a great chair.
You can't convince me to buy anything other than the mighty monobloc. The monobloc can give you what others can't, the greatest motivation.
The black one looks like a regular decent $200 office chair from 15 years ago.
Except now it costs $1,000
its the other way around. The $200 chair looks like a $1000+ chair from 10 years before that.
Knowing even Linus, a much smaller dude, feels the wood (!) definitely rules that chair out.
ayo
I was looking at $1,300-$1,500 chairs. Found a video that recommended a chair that you can typically get for $170. Union & Scale Hyken that you can get from staples or amazon. Don't regret it at all.
Got the Dexley and feel the same way.
Might be due to the lack of headrest on the one I sat in or something, but I have been sitting in this hyken for 2 years now and have not had a single backache or issue. They are not one and the same though, I just think the Hyken is very good bang for your buck.

Herman Miller's warranty is really good, do recommend.
Would be nice to test different body sizes on it
And it wouldn't fit most body types anyway coz the armrests seem to be designed for taller people, but the seat depth is way too shallow and seems to be designed for shorter people. Herman Miller completely missed the mark with the sizing and measurements on this chair. Check out this video and you'll know what I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/feIaY_XlG4I/v-deo.html.
I like how the full name of the chair is not in the video description so I can scavenge the internet for myself to actually find it. Great job guys!
You'd have to pay insane import duties if you buy it from the US tho.

I love my haworth fern. I'd love to try a steelcase, the arm rests seem crazy!
I bought a Secret Lab Titan back in 2020. My biggest complaint is that the seat cushion isn't cushion-y enough. After two years, I had to buy a memory foam cushion to make it comfortable again. The Herman Miller chair reviewed here seems to have a similar issue.
You guys should try Ikea’s new gaming chairs including the styrspel, and my fav chair, the Markus.
Wait the seat doesn't tilt? for 900 dollars? I was looking for a new chair, my GT omega is worn out. But I want full and locking tilt. I'm a desk racer. i hope you guys are gonna do more chair reviews.
Core workouts are typically more significant in reducing back pain than any special chair
That's what I thought until I sat in one.
You know whats better than one gaming chair? two gaming chairs!
-Colton 2022
Nah an ergonomic office chair is even better than two gaming chairs.
It's probably closer to a $150-200 chair for $800....
Can we get Anthony to review some Big and Tall chairs? We love Anthony, and us big people need good chairs too!
I hope someday LMG will do a video entitled, “Gaming chairs are silly. Just buy an office chair.”
Yea lol. Like I always say "a good gaming chair is a good office one"

I love how Colton is the "Chair" guy but has probably the wirst possible chair at home lol
if someone says they can feel the base under the cushion on their first sit - i'm immediately out. i've got the secret lab titan and only after 3 years can i feel the base, which is mainly in the center, as the outside of the base seems to use metal struts with like 5-6 inches of foam. it was like half the price of this thing.

Herman Miller Aerons are still the chair to beat. Mine is a good as it was when i bought it 15yrs ago
Those gen 1 aerons don't quit. It's entirely possible you'll never have to replace it.
Sat in one the other day thought it was a 200$ normal chair. Disappointed considering the aeron is cheaper and so much better
I hear Herman Miller, im like yup...out of my price bracket
ill stick with my secret lab titan '20 its two years old and still looks and feels brand new perfect for spending hours gaming and studying and my back never hurts and its like a third of the price
