@@irfanadam2163 you meant to say, soprano's bass or soprano bass? I think it would be soprano bass, it sounds wrong anyway, it doesn't matter, I understand
This was amazing! He’s one of my favorite basses for sure! One correction, the Eb1 was probably chest fry but he’s a very talented and impressive bass!
Okay about a year since I posted a comment admitting that I thought of him as a gray area between a high bass and low baritone, now I am 100% certain he's a baritone after hearing him sing operatically.
@@Marcell0Bass Nothing in his voice says bass. Anyone can develop a strong strohbass extension. I’ve seen similar low notes produced by TENORS. Jeremy Peace who’s a high tenor can produce similar low notes with strohbass. On top of that, Ivan’s passaggi and timbre very clearly are a baritone voice. He has talked previously in interviews about being a ‘dramatischer bariton’. I have also consulted on this with several people in the classical field, both teachers and opera singers and they agreed on him being a natural baritone. Not a bass.
@@Marcell0Bass The lowest pitch he sang in M1 (chest/modal voice) in this video is a B-flat 1. All below is a quite audible strohbass to my ears. That being said, I hear him go into strohbass as 'high' as Eb2. But generally moreso around C#2. Which is a fairly common switching point.
@Kaji Actually his timbre is even quite bright in baritonse, a lot of tenors are darker than him such as Joshua Henry. But the density and passaggio speaks dramatic baritone.
ua-cam.com/video/InCNdpYGTFY/v-deo.html Its the same song from the g1 in your video, but its a different take or something. He holds it for WAY longer and it sounds more clear in the mix
Headvoice and falsetto are mechanically the exact same thing, the difference most people make is that headvoice has quality cord closure and falsetto is airy and flutey. By that definition yes he is in headvoice but people will still disagree bc semantics
@@gerome86 No. He’s a baritone with bass extension. Nothing about his natural tessitura or timbre says bass. Listen to his live performances. Or check his interviews where he talks about his voice. He’s simply a trained dramatic baritone with a developed head voice extension and a strong strohbass (it is NOT chest voice on his bottom notes, very audibly the M0 laryngeal vibratory mechanism).
If it's not chest, then it's chest/fry. Then again, I a lot of the lowest ones here are chest/fry. I'm still out on the "Im Tiefan Kellar" F1, though...sounds like a growl compared to the rest of his low stuff.
@@bradycall1889 "Strohbass" is kind of a nebulous term, though, because it gets used to refer to a variety of things. I've even seen chest/fry called strohbass before (which I think is misleading). What technique do you mean specifically when you call the F1 strohbass?
@@bradycall1889 I just think chest fry should be distinguished from other strohbass (if it’s in that category) since it’s still accomplished by lowering the voice (as opposed to controlling the speed of airflow like with just fry or using any kind of overtone singing). In other words, it’s still singing, just with fry mixing in.
Went into a little chest-fry below F1... but that is still pretty damn impressive. My vocal range is considerably larger (Eb0 using subharmonics, C1 in chest-fry, D1 in full chest, to C6 in falsetto), but his ability to manipulate his falsetto and to have a chest voice that extends all the way to A4 (all while being a legitimate basso profondo) is beyond most mortals, and better than I can do.
The interesting thing about him is that he's got both bass and baritone-like properties to his voice. His passaggio and his high notes seem to be that of a baritone, while his low notes seem to be that of a bass. Some people out there say he was a baritone, and others a bass, though the sources calling him a "baritone" are mostly composed of crazy people who love to troll, but there is a slight chance that they could actually be right. I am not 100% sure what I believe about it. If I had to guess he is probably a bass-baritone, leaning more bass than baritone. Basically, he was probably a high bass though I am not quite sure. Now if you want to get mad at me and call me a troll, that's understandable. I used to fight internally at the idea that he might have perhaps been a baritone. I used to have trouble getting my mind around it as well.
@@bazzmusic4952 having a good command of falsetto is the only criteria some people need for comparisons. It comes from the belief that falsetto is all either of these singers are, which could not be further from the truth.
