    One of my favorite recordings of this aria. Joyce may not have the most beautiful voice but her unique timbre, exquisite use of legato, and usage of the voice as a means for dramatic expression make this one of my go to recordings of this Mozart masterpiece

      Anne Murray sings the best Mi tradi quell'alma ingrata, at La Scala, under the direction of Ricardo Muti.

    Do not forget, what her singing makes it so amazing. It's the articulation and the understanding of the situation...

    This is one of the best versions of „Mi tradì“ on UA-cam. It is Mozart‘s own transposition in D Major.

    Acceptable? I can’t remember any singer managing the long coloratura passages in one breath! She is outstanding!

    As usual, Di Donato's interpretation is flawless. Totally in keeping with Donna Elvira's character, there is something irrational about the coloratura. It seems to come from nowhere and doesn't exactly go anywhere, but is very beautiful and unusual. As usual, JDD does total justice to the score and sings with remarkable beauty of tone besides!

    Perfect example of JdD’s art.
    Acceptable but nothing out of the ordinary. IMO super star status achieved more in terms of lack of competition then on her own merits.

      Sad, but true. I will never be able to get past her spotty intonation, strangled high notes, inaudible low notes, nanny-goat vibrato, and poor breath control to be able to appreciate her supposed "artistry".

      Her musical intelligence is patently obvious, regardless of the state of her voice.

      @@dudeforcaster8630 Agree and certainly her voice is not well suited for a big house like the Met. That is not her fault of course but she should know better. I gave up on her after her very bad Adalgisa. She could be barely heard. To make things worse ( at least for me),
      McVicar placed her front and center even when Adalgisa is not supposed to be there or sing a note such as in the Casta diva scene or at the end before the lovers walk up to their death. She must have a lot of political power at the Met.

    • @ER1CwC
      @ER1CwC 8 місяців тому

      @doc7472 She is in her mid-50s. She's still at the Met because of her musicality and acting, both of which I think are clearly at the top or near the top of the business, and because of her past vocal achievements. Her voice was always light, but it was certainly well-suited for the rep she does. She started to have vocal difficulties after essaying Maria Stuarda in the mid-2010s. I would encourage you to check out her earlier stuff if you haven't. The voice spun at the top.
      She apparently had a severe flu of some kind leading up to that run of Norma at the Met. She said during a Juilliard masterclass that she could barely speak days before opening night and that it was a miracle she was able to find a way to phonate.

      @@ER1CwC Well, she should have cancelled or made a public announcement about her vocal issues. As for “ “ earlier”, I am quite familiar with her singing and indeed, I used to like her a lot more when she was capable of singing the “ bravura” repertoire. Unfortunately and as it usually happens that goes away with aging except in miracles like Horne or Bartoli.
      I don’t deny JdD is a sensitive artist with what appears to be great musical intelligence but as they say in Italy: voce,voce, voce.
      At the end of the day all these opinions including yours and mine are mostly subjective.

    Appena passa nel registro acuto non è in grado di sostenere la frase è il suono : i sol e i la sono inascoltabili , crescenti , con vibrato stretto e suono non a fuoco . L’ interpretazione in generale é stentorea . Ancora una volta non capisco come si possa lodare tutto cio e non capisco dove stia il segreto del successo . Per me questa cantante è un puro bluff

    Direi che non è proprio credibile nell'esecuzione di Mozart.. italiano falso e artificioso.. cantante assia poco interessante

    • @orion8835
      @orion8835 2 роки тому

      Indeed many non Mediterranean voices sing Mozart. In that sound they are always trying to produce a sound that is authentic to Italian. Exaggeration of diction can assist in some part the text obviously releasing vowels and creating “the vibe”. Despite the reality that the voice is paler and obviously not Italianate. Joyce is Irish. She does what she can. This role is also a soprano role set somewhat lower many mezzo sopranos have undertaken it.

      Posso concordare sulla eccessiva stentorialità vocale assai poco mozartiana, e sulla eccessiva enfasi sulle consonanti, ma non sono d'accordo nel criticare il suo italiano in toto... Avercene cantanti non madrelingua con una dizione così!
