15:06 Stop, stop, you’re going to give Nintendo a stroke! I think the lightning power is super cool! But it reminded me that we don’t have more elemental flowers for some reason. Speaking of elemental flowers, I’d thought about the “fire” flower giving different elements to different characters (Mario gets Fire, Luigi gets Thunder, Bucken-Berry gets ice, etc). The return of multiple playable characters to 2D Mario would actually be really nice to see. Another great video, Honcho!
“When was the last time Peach was playable in a 2D Mario game?” Super Mario Run. Daisy was playable there too for the first time in a 2D platformer and the best playable character to boot
Classic old Mario games were great since every new installment used a new art style and brand new mechanics to practically reinvent Mario every time. A new 2D platformer would be great if they made one but really needs some vision behind it like the classics had. Love the video btw! Keep up the good work!
You also have to consider that the technology for game development was rapidly changing at the time, so each games art style changed to showcase the hardware. That's not to say you don't have a point.
14:12 I literally had almost the same idea for more than a year! My power up was called the “Electric Shroom”. It looks like a regular Super Mushroom but instead of the color red, it's a bright cyan with blue electric sparkles coming out of it. When Mario picks it up, he will look like Super Mario but with an “enchanted” effect of blue sparkles on him (I don't know how else to call it). Now Mario is a bit faster, and he jumps faster (not higher). Mario could also dash in any direction he wants, damaging/killing enemies in his way, if he dashed through something made of metal he'll go through it (dashing into any other thing will cancel his dash). And also, Mario doesn't turn into a lightning bolt, he will instead turn into an electrical version of himself for the duration of the dash, which will be something like 0.3s. He would dash somewhere between 3-8 brick blocks, depending on his momentum. The dash has a cooldown of 3s. Mario could also do a ground pound that will create an electric shock wave that will stun and damage/kill any nearby enemies (if they are not inches next to Mario, they will just be stunned). If Mario takes damage by and enemy, that enemy also will take damage/gets killed. I thought about this as a 3D Mario power up and not a 2D one. I also thought about some more power ups, like the “Woodpecker”, which can be awesome in 2D.
Once again, the quality of your videos never fall flat. Your execution is almost akin to a blend of Scott the Woz + Relax Alax, and I'm ALL for it. Keep up the amazing work, you're going to go places in no time.
Never mind. Also, people may think I hate NSMBU, truth is I don't. I do think I was too hard on it for the sake of a few jokes, and I do use it as an example of what I dislike in the visual section of the video, but the game does have a lot of strengths like challenge mode, Luigi u, and the overworld map I mentioned. The issue I ran into (other than the video being slightly rushed because of the uncertainty of Nintendo announcing a new 2d Mario or not.) Is that despite going through the history of 2d Mario briefly, specifically with the new series, I looked at them as a whole instead of each in their own bubble or at least failed to mention each of their individual strengths. Because NSMBU, now given some thought (and a great comment that pointed a few things out to me and is pinned) would probably be the second-best (or the best) game in the new super Mario bros series, if it wasn't the fourth one to release because it does supersede Wii in content and scope, but because the art style remained the same and a few elements were too, I was harsher on it for "being more of the same" while Wii did just that and I said it was alright. Overall, I failed to really consider the strength of U as a singular game because of my problems with the overall series and I hope this clears some stuff up. Also, NSMBU deluxe is more so underwhelming than watered down.
S.Mario Maker 2, can add's art style of: Yoshy Island, Marioland's, S.Mario rpg, PaperMario, Mario n' Luigi, Donkey Kong 94, Donkey Kong Vs Mario..(all is material N allready have, skins, music, pixel art, back grounds, etc..)but nope..
Well, I would love a Super Princess Peach 2, I know that Peach's game has not sold well, but I would like to play a 2D Mario game where there are more playable characters such as Daisy and Rosalina, by the way I like it the idea of Lighting Mario looks very cool
i’ve wanted a remake or sequel for YEARS. it’s surprising to me it’s never gotten anything-it’s the only mario spin-off to never receive a sequel and i think there are some interesting ideas that could be explored with better tech/execution and without a lot of the hand-holding the game had (i say that now as an adult in hindsight, ignoring that my dumb 8-year-old ass had no clue what to do for half the game when it first released lol)
My idea: Story: bowser kidnaps peach (maybe some small spin on the idea) Artstyle: id want something like mario maker did for the mario 3dworld style, large cg backgrounds, high quality, sorta plasticie ground, ect Controls: a combination of the new Mario standard and maker 3d worlds, basically you can triple jump, wall jump, spin, but now you can also long jump, sideflip, large spin jump Gameplay: go through 8 worlds, most of them being a fusion of multiple ideas, also, a proper difficulty which, on top of making powerups less frequent, also has more enemies, and more aggressive bosses, hard mode will also make the game act like an old mario game (the screen cannot scroll backwards, further more, any damage in a powered up state, even fire flower, ect, will reduce you to small mario Chars: you start with 5 chars, but id like it if they went a different route, and had you unlock more chars (starting chars are mario, luigi, blue and yellow toad, and toadette) Peach: beat the game, she floats but jumps shorter Daisy: Ground pound 25 different flowers in the desert world (earliest unlockable char), basically a fusion of peach and luigi (maybe theres a better way to unlock her lol... just dont have any good ideas) Wario: collect X amount of coins, shorter jumps, jumps can break bricks even while small, while big, ground pounds will emit a 3x3 damage radius that kills almost anything in range Rosalina: Collect all the star coins in the game, jumps shorter but has a attacking double jump Waluigi: Collect all star coins in a world 9 level, highest and most floaty jumps with no movement drawbacks, hard mode power up mechanics are in play even in regular, hard mode is always isntakill, water controls are like penguin suit
For a 2d new game, I would love to have Wario and Waluigi to be playable. I don’t care if they are “bad guys” or whatever it would be cool seeing them in a 2d game and it would be original. if you think about it, wario can be used to break through heavy objects or pick up heavy objects and Waluigi can be used to go through thin spaces or get in higher places.
This could probably work if you had a twist to the storyline where, for some reason, you had to rely on the Wario Bros for help. I still think we need to have Toad and Peach as playable 2D characters also.
I've been thinking about a new 2D Mario game for years. I drew and described functions of DOZENS of new power ups when I was younger and imagined what it would be like to have new themes for worlds (like a music world) as well as new/different playable characters and more Yoshi colors. There is SO much potential for a new 2D Mario game and I also REALLY hope that Nintendo does it some day. I'd buy it ASAP.
I agree with basically everything about this, ESPECIALLY on the topic of the art style and story. I want the next 2D Mario game to have an actual 2D art style that goes for a similar cartoony aesthetic to older entries like SMW, but making full use of HD graphics to look crisp af. One game that I find barely anyone talks about that has an amazing art style is Super Princess Peach. It's like Mario & Luigi and Yoshi's Island had a baby and it's glorious. Give me those sort of vibes but in HD. And as for the story, YES. PLEASE. I'm SICK of mainline Mario games always needing to skimp on the story and adhere to the tired, played out status quo of rescuing Peach (or in rare exceptions, a stand-in for her) from Bowser. It's the main reason the RPGs remain my favorite entries in the Mario series, their stories and characters run laps around mainline Mario. Some mainline games do make an attempt at real worldbuilding and unique NPC design, but only 3D ones and I guess the Mario Land games. Still the RPGs remain king, and if Nintendo refuses to allow the RPGs to get as popular as other Mario games- I'm 100% confident they could if they played to their strengths 100% and marketed it accordingly, not treating the games as silly little side amusements, the RPGs could be just as acclaimed as mainline Mario and Mario Kart- then at least let the games they ARE willing to take seriously in terms of marketing and reach have some of that sweet lore and development that so far the RPGs haven't even been challenged in. Fawful as a 2D Mario villain would be a dream come true. Heck there's so much potential he'd bring as a 2D boss, mechanically speaking too. That vacuum helmet, hovercraft, ray gun, etc. Would be a huge breath of fresh air after fighting 3-hit Koopalings and Bowser with his usual Bowser abilities who grows huge for the second phase for a fifteenth time. Dimentio would also be a great choice. He already has a base to work with via his SPM moveset, imagine what the core 2D Mario devs could do with him.
Defeated all of the point of 2D Mario, actually most of the ‘new 2D game’ concept is just people tired of platfromer Mario in general, it’s fine that you want Super Paper Mario 2 or Super Mario Story-RPG-Platfromer-Adventure-thing, but Nintendo should not abandon 2D Mario, they can totally have a better art direction like maybe a maker 2 3D world like look and original bosses and innovative themes. No need for complex story or playable waluigi. It’s excuse for discussing about Super Paper Mario 2 but you can just say it’s that like how any other game concept are just like you try to call a odyssey sequel concept a ‘brand new game’ when it’s not really. I think give a simple style would be fine as there is no mechanic based on drawing to make the drawing style people suggesting more
I've always wanted a Mario game in the Yoichi Kotabe art-style - it would make so much sense! I feel like Nintendo wouldn't do that now - it would be a cool juxtaposition/complement to the Mario movie, but guessing they would rather release nothing (no competition for the latest Mario product)
I would love if peach got to be playable in more mainline Mario games, after the treatment she’s getting in the Mario movie I hope they treat her character better in games as well. This doesn’t mean she can’t get kidnapped from time to time but at the very least let her have stealth missions like in the first paper Mario game.
Yh she deserves to be playable because she has proven herself to be quite powerful whenever she *is* playable like in Super Mario Bros.2, Super Mario RPG, Super Princess Peach, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Run, the Mario Plus Rabbids games , Smash Bros and all of her spinoff appearances. Idk why Nintendo keeps making her the damsel in distress when she's clearly a very capable fighter.
This video so perfectly sums up my opinions on the current state of 2D Mario, and mainline Mario in general. I'm honestly baffled Nintendo didn't showcase a new Mario game this direct. It's been so many years since past games, I'm sick of ports, DLC, and add ons. We need a new game please. This is the first video I've seen from you, definitely subscribing. This video is so well edited and written it's shocking you haven't gotten more attention.
A new super mario game in the 80s / early 90s box art style would be a dream come true! Also a new Wario Land game would be fantastic (next year is 30 years anniversary since WL1). Those really shook up the Mario platforming concepts and the "slightly sterile", "playing it safe" art styles of Mario games.
I agree with Honcho, if you take a look at NSMB Wii and NSMB U Deluxe on Switch, the main differences you'll find between the two games are in the superpowers Mario can get, but not much else. That is a problem, and the reason why is because the two games were released 10 years apart from each other. Other than this, the latest NSMB games have catered to the fans of the original game. But this is the part I need you to understand, Nintendo. If you regurgitate the exact same cut and dry formula for future Mario games, I don't know if I'm gonna keep on liking that original story anymore.
I actually disagree with the assessment with New Super Mario Bros. U. I find New Super Mario Bros. U a much, *MUCH* better game than Wii. I really don't understand what the hype is with the Wii game… it's basically the same thing as the DS game, except far less inventive? I'm not someone who cares a lot about local multiplayer, as I much prefer playing games solo… so that innovation, while new, just didn't do anything for me. New Super Mario Bros. on DS was good enough… I really didn't care to have another one of these on the home console. Much of the Wii game's art style looked like the DS game, but upscaled. Hell, you were complaining about the music from New Super Mario Bros. 2 being reused, but the Wii game reused the DS's main theme composed by Koji Kondo! (And a much worse arrangement at that, done by Kenta Nagata) I think you're taking a lot of things for granted if you found the Wii game to be "amazing," and then U "more of the same." Of all the games, New Super Mario Bros. U differentiated itself the most visually (and even musically, at least giving us a new main theme). Most of the backgrounds from the Wii game felt like reused assets from the DS game, but upscaled, while U's backgrounds, while not *all* that different, at least made an effort. Objectively speaking, New Super Mario Bros. U made far more of an effort than any of the other games in the series. I think the main reason why you and many others don't care for it is because of the fact that it was the fourth game in the series, and we were all kind of fatigued by the whole series. I was, too, but like I said, I was already fatigued by the time we got to the Wii game… and personally, I *much* prefer New Super Mario Bros. U. It's by no means amazing, but it made far more of an effort. Had they not given us the Wii and 3DS entries, then I think people would have been far more receptive to it. Too much New Super Mario Bros...
I personally prefer Wii's gameplay, and level design. In U, you can just typically run to the end with squirrel, and Wii introduced alot more new powerups, which go well with different levels. In NSMBU, its just squirrel, and former powerups don't appear until next to the end of a true 100% savefile. It makes the levels feel dry and too similar. Especially in Luigi U, it is absolutely very easy to grab squirrel, then spam spinjump glide to the end, with no effort whatsoever.
Wii is so overrated, people only like it because they played it during they're childhood. Wii is just like every other NSMB game, a boring and generic 2D Mario game. I don't get why people shit on U but praise Wii for some reason.
If I had to make changes to 2D Mario it would be the following: 1. New art style, in order to not to deviate from the actual I would say it has to be completley 2D, with a clear limitation of colors for the entire game, I would chose yellow, green and blue so the main characters outstand more, except for Luigi in green levels because I find that funny. 2. New playable characters, and by that I don't mean slap Daisy with the same gameplay, no, I mean a new gameplay, for example, a Koopa which tries to go faster and while on the shell form it jumps upwards from any collision, this could be specially fun in time limit levels with tons of enemies you can jump from by colliding with them, but this is just an idea, there is obviously way more potential. 3. New world themes, these are some ideas, 1st world is Peach's Castle, turning it into a invaded castle with like 10 levels and a sewers secret level, 2nd world would be the mushroom kingdom, not the grassy plains, the kingdom itself, going through houses maybe stoping some locals being invaded, and 4th world is an enchanted desert which Kamek is trying to turn into a cake, once defeated kamek you unlock the regular desert which like the mushroom kingdom is full of towns you can visit and help. 4. The power ups are both temporary and permanent, at first they are temporary but as the game goes on you can make them permanent and change between items on the fly, but because of that they no longer work as your health, but instead Mario always has 3 points of health. 5. Add NPCs you can talk to, maybe even giving you objetives for the level, and once you accet an objective the entire level changes because you can accept them at any point and some would have to make you go backwards into a completley different beast, making some levels specially longer.
I really like to see a 2D Mario game that uses the art style from Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe (SMM2's 3D World style but a little bit brighter and with outlines)
This is exactly what I thought about the new series Also the lightning power up is so good I think it Will a very good item but it must be on time or it is to op
Great video! I think everything you brought up in the video was explained perfectly! As much as a love Mario Maker I would like something new and refreshing from Nintendo.
The future of 2D Mario games is one giant level that works like a Metroidvania where you need to go to place A to progress in place B and so on with hidden secrets and many differents themes. Also not made with an editor like it's possible in Mario Maker but everything's handcraftet like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze or drawn by hand like Wario on the Wii.
i love that u put in ur own ideas!! really agree with more playable characters and story! i'd love for fawful to come back, but new villain would be cool too
Mario Maker 2 literally has an entire story mode with levels made by the people who make Mario... It's literally the newest 2D mario game, not the wii u one.
Imagine if we got another game like Land 2, I played 6 Golden Coins 2 years ago after playing New soup wii, 2, and U. Man was it a breath of fresh air, so many unique levels and ideas that make that little gem my 2nd favorite 2D Mario game 2nd to 3.
Land 2 is a great, unique Mario game but the problem is that it's just too short. If it had about the same amount of quality levels as Super Mario World, it would certainly be a LOT closer to 3, World and Yoshi's Island. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is a stronger game imo and I believe it still counts as a Mario game, since it uses very Mario-centric gameplay before the Wario series went off in more of it's own direction.
this video is one of the most entertaining and well put together ones ive seen in a while. the mention of wario land shake it and its artstyle is an INSTANT sub. kudos bro
I agree the lack of a good story, is why I don't play Mario games, anymore. I only played some of the older Halo games this afternoon and the story in those games was much better, for example the ending of Halo 4 actually brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it, as it was just so moving. Super Smash Bros Brawl Subspace Emissary, has the best story that I've ever seen in a game on a Nintendo console and the fight against that final boss was amazing. Also been able to play as different characters (e.g. Peach or Daisy) would be refreshing, even if the levels alternated between different characters, as was done in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, as it enhances the story and gives you another perspective within the overall story.
The worst thing about the New Super Mario games... The artstyle 🤢🤮 (Also if you haven't already, you should play/make videos about, the first 2 Paper Mario Games, and SMRPG)
It would be great if we got at least new boss fights. The Koopalings are great, but 3 Games in a row is kind of boring. In New Super Marios Bros you got at least suprising bosses with individual powers. Now you got 7 versions of the same idea. So personally i think in the next game they should appear in a bonus world in order to keep super mario interesting. However the idea that fans will copy levels in super mario maker will be reduced because of the missing bosses and exotic enemies
Here’s a games that I’m hoping for that will never happen: The artstyle is kind of like the paper Mario artstyle except looking like a painting on some bamboo background and an overall Japanese theme going on. The colors mostly warm, less blue, more green, Mario’s iconic red shifted towards a pink-ish red color. Cut out fore and background elements that are also moving. No tile based system, every element exists once for that specific purpose in a level. When you die, it does not send you back to the main world thank you very much.
Hear me out here. I've always wanted a Bowser game series. I've had this idea in my head for decades now about a 2D game series that focuses on Bowser and the Koopalings. Bowser's Kingdom is taken over by some malevolent entity who then takes the Mushroom Kingdom and brainwashes all of the peace loving Mushroom citizens into serving it. Bowser is taken hostage and kept in Princess Peach's castle. And the only one left in either Kingdom who escapes brainwashing is Lemmy Koopa. Now, he must traverse across various worlds starting backwards in Bowser's Kingdom to save both Kingdoms. All of the Koopalings would be playable here, Lemmy, Iggy, Roy, Ludwig, Larry, Morton, and Wendy. And would unlock as playable as you defeated them as bosses. And each would have their own unique abilities and attributes with challenging courses to test each new Koopaling. You would swap out for a new Koopaling between each world. So each Koopaling boss you fight, you'd then play as after their brainwashing was knocked out The very last world would have the villain flee to its own domain after Bowser's release in order to enact his master plan...in which case Bowser now becomes playable and the last courses really ratchet up the difficulty to match Bowser's burlyness. The final boss would be a possessed Mario, fought by Bowser, flipping the usual script. And our main villain? Fawful! Whose grand master plan here was to take over the world and revive Cackletta.
I would love to see a mario and luigi game where its like "Mario and Luigi Cackletta's return" where fawful would like revive Cackletta and we would have the same map and all but with a different story and events i would love to see it
I also like that you brought up how boring the stories are. In mario bros wii, at the end of almost every world, the gang is right there as bowser JR is going to jump into an airship and get away with princess peach. Not once do they jump on after him or do literally anything to suggest that they're trying to save her. Heck, even in mario bros 3 he grabs onto the anchor of the airship and doesn't let them get away
Loved it, totally agree with pretty much everything you said. Would’ve been nice to have had the games actually change after the ds and wii era. My younger siblings do love playing the Super Mario Bros 2 on their 2DS’s, because it looks like the one on the Wii (they are absolutely obsessed with it and make every conversation about Mario). It’s still a source of enjoyement for them having a better graphically looking mario title. But kids won’t realise how uninspired it is at that age. Trying to get them into the Sonic rush games to break their little Mario obsession. It’s tough to get them out of their shell and play harder games especially when they are so young. (sonic rush isn’t hard I mean stuff like Shovel Knight, or 3d games (kids have all sorts of troubles with perspective in 3d games though))
My idea for a Thunderbud Flower would allow the player to throw down an electric orb that circles around platforms and stuns enemies as it travels past them, similar to those sparky enemies in Super Mario World. I have more ideas for new powerups but if it's a new Mario game then it's gotta have one that stands out from the rest, that's where I came up with the idea for a brand new powerup, the Lizard Suit! This transforms Mario into a gecko and grants the unique ability to climb up walls and ceilings without ever slipping, it could also allow you to glide and run on the surface of water and if you obtain the Chameleon Suit you'll get the ability to briefly camouflage from enemies.
Be patient, I think they want to get Tears of the Kingdom out first, also the Mario Team may be trying to come up with ideas. Nintendo listens to fans so they probably are trying to find a way to keep Mario fresh.
Fun fact: I'm anxiously waiting for a new 2D Mario game and it better have 13 worlds if not more and at least 150 levels! (8 Worlds aren't enough and the amount of levels is becoming too low for the 2000+ hours of gameplay a game deserves without starting over) Like if you are anxiously waiting another 2D Mario game like me. (Hackroms DON'T count)
I never played any DS games and didn't own a Wii U so to me New Super Mario Bros Deluxe is new I just got it and really enjoying it. I could see being frustrated though if you like 2D Mario and them not releasing a new one in so long. I'm liking all of these Wii U ports they are bringing to the Switch many people missed out on these games.
Thank you for making a video on this, finally stating how little timmys trash SMM levels won't replace the 2D mario franchise. I've seen tons of people saying and, and apparently being fine with it, and it frustrates me alot. I'm a huge NSMB Fan, 100%ed every game, and still don't mind. They need to reboot it, like they did with NSMB DS after SMW.
One Idea for a cool power up would be the penguin suit but for fire. Like if your in a Lava level you can swim in the lava. Or maybe Podoboos don't hurt you.
sad that nintendo hates fangames so much, it would be much easier to pull off if nintendo gave this a chance as a fangame honestly, i agree with the idea of playable characters, maybe they couldmake it similar to the mario and luigi series that there are levels where you NEED to play as a certain character or something (and i definitely agree having bowser or daisy playable would be neat)
As for the new character idea here is a list of what they should do Mario: basic movement maybe has some exclusive moves from 3d games but over basic Luigi: basic like Mario but has different jumping physics and lacking some 3d moves Blue toad: like Luigi but faster and not as high of a jump Peach: would be like peachette from deluxe but with a few new 3d moves Bowser: the most different idea I think you would unlock him at the end of world 1 or two can't use power ups that are not mushrooms but has a flame thrower like fire move and by default can take two hits and after getting a mushroom 3 I think all the characters be different would help alot
What I want personally is for them to make 2d mario game in the style of a 3d mario game. Maybe not a SANDBOX 2d Mario game(although I would murder for that, don't get me wrong), but a 2d Mario with the progression and design style of Galaxy would be a DREAM.
THE NEW MARIO GAME HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS :ua-cam.com/video/ZGbIcW2t0g4/v-deo.html
I sure do "wonder" if Nintendo will ever make another 2D Mario game.
...
Ha I see what ya did there 👀
Your wish has come true.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Honestly, it was better than the cheep cheep suit, but that was mostly just because I wanted to redesign the frog suit to fit in the universe
Maybe they could do a plant flower or dark matter flower to go with it, honestly fire and ice are getting really boring.
“When was the last time Peach was playable in a 2D Mario game?”
Super Mario Run. Daisy was playable there too for the first time in a 2D platformer and the best playable character to boot
Nintendo treats those two like shit.
The new direct... It's a blessing for all of us, even you...
This video is very entertaining after Super Mario Wonder was revealed, nearly everything aged perfectly especially 16:36
Out of everything, I did not think Daisy would get in, but I reap what I sow, I guess.
Also, NSMBU deluxe is more so underwhelming than watered down.
whats your opinion on young sheldon
NSMBU Deluxe is disappointing
I hate nsmbu, the levels are bland and boring as you can just fly over them. I prefer NSMB2.
I don't really care that you don't like it or like it, I just find your jokes funny on it though the video
YESS PLEASE Super Princess Peach is so hecking nostalgic to me, I love that ;v; That hecking Boo falling level was SO HECKING HARD XD
@@elfilinamie1326 nah that game was pure shit
@@ppo1502 That's your opinion, but I actually enjoyed the game
i’ve wanted a remake or sequel for YEARS. it’s surprising to me it’s never gotten anything-it’s the only mario spin-off to never receive a sequel and i think there are some interesting ideas that could be explored with better tech/execution and without a lot of the hand-holding the game had (i say that now as an adult in hindsight, ignoring that my dumb 8-year-old ass had no clue what to do for half the game when it first released lol)
Not you predicting the future. 😭
My idea:
Story: bowser kidnaps peach (maybe some small spin on the idea)
Artstyle: id want something like mario maker did for the mario 3dworld style, large cg backgrounds, high quality, sorta plasticie ground, ect
Controls: a combination of the new Mario standard and maker 3d worlds, basically you can triple jump, wall jump, spin, but now you can also long jump, sideflip, large spin jump
Gameplay: go through 8 worlds, most of them being a fusion of multiple ideas, also, a proper difficulty which, on top of making powerups less frequent, also has more enemies, and more aggressive bosses, hard mode will also make the game act like an old mario game (the screen cannot scroll backwards, further more, any damage in a powered up state, even fire flower, ect, will reduce you to small mario Chars: you start with 5 chars, but id like it if they went a different route, and had you unlock more chars (starting chars are mario, luigi, blue and yellow toad, and toadette)
Peach: beat the game, she floats but jumps shorter
Daisy: Ground pound 25 different flowers in the desert world (earliest unlockable char), basically a fusion of peach and luigi (maybe theres a better way to unlock her lol... just dont have any good ideas)
Wario: collect X amount of coins, shorter jumps, jumps can break bricks even while small, while big, ground pounds will emit a 3x3 damage radius that kills almost anything in range
Rosalina: Collect all the star coins in the game, jumps shorter but has a attacking double jump
Waluigi: Collect all star coins in a world 9 level, highest and most floaty jumps with no movement drawbacks, hard mode power up mechanics are in play even in regular, hard mode is always isntakill, water controls are like penguin suit
@@Telmarine55 but don't you have to save peach?
@@Kr1tVR no. Peach doesn’t have to be one to be saved.
No wario or waluigi :(

Im glad we let you cook. This vid was great and i agree with everything.
Super paper mario wii is the type of game i want for a new 2D mario games having special abilities and a story would be so refreshing
I'm sorry, but I'm not reading this.
I think give a simple style would be fine as there is no mechanic based on drawing to make the drawing style people suggesting more
Look at the new direct
:)
Lightning Mario could also be a good power-up in a Robot-World, like mentioned in the video.
That knock at 1:02 was SCARY. I jumped at leats two times
Theyve finally done it after the new direct
They finally did it bro...
Twas never a matter of if, but when.

Mario needs it’s own Sonic Mania
People gotta quit forgetting about Mario Run.
That doorknock at 1:00 confused the shit out of me. Audio engineering that makes it sound like it's coming from real life always fascinates me.
Not the only one lmaooo
In Mario maker there are some levels that are designed just as well as a Nintendo level, but there are less of those compared to the really bad levels
I came back to this video because of smb wonder
(And a much worse arrangement at that, done by Kenta Nagata)
I think you're taking a lot of things for granted if you found the Wii game to be "amazing," and then U "more of the same." Of all the games, New Super Mario Bros.
I completely agree; not to mention the side modes and DLC are absolutely spectacular
I prefer Wii. Why? I grew up with it. But I also like Wii U.
Wii is so overrated, people only like it because they played it during they're childhood. Wii is just like every other NSMB game, a boring and generic 2D Mario game. I don't get why people shit on U but praise Wii for some reason.
@@piranhalettuce simple reason. Wii was the first co-op Mario game ever.
If I had to make changes to 2D Mario it would be the following:
Me from the further here a hint super mario bros wonder
I really like to see a 2D Mario game that uses the art style from Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe (SMM2's 3D World style but a little bit brighter and with outlines)
Perfection. Everything that was just mentioned would go perfectly with a Mario 2d game btw I forgot when the last time a 2d Mario game came out
I will die on the hill that nsmb2 is great you guys need to wake up
It really is. Especially the coin rush mode. Can't tell you how many hours I spent in that mode
This is exactly what I thought about the new series
Also the lightning power up is so good I think it Will a very good item but it must be on time or it is to op
Also more minigames will be cool
Now you gotta make a video about Super Mario Wonder
Give me some time, its cooking.
@@HonchoV1 my guy. Loved this vid and immediately thought of you when the Wonder trailer dropped.
Great video! I think everything you brought up in the video was explained perfectly! As much as a love Mario Maker I would like something new and refreshing from Nintendo.
i thought that because of mario maker 2 they would never make another2d mario game but here we are
Man i wonder what that would be like
Wonder 😍
The future of 2D Mario games is one giant level that works like a Metroidvania where you need to go to place A to progress in place B and so on with hidden secrets and many differents themes. Also not made with an editor like it's possible in Mario Maker but everything's handcraftet like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze or drawn by hand like Wario on the Wii.
Can we have Wario as an antagonist again please? It's kinda weird how he was used once and never again
i love that u put in ur own ideas!! really agree with more playable characters and story! i'd love for fawful to come back, but new villain would be cool too
Bro said: sega did it now you do it nintendo
Super paper Mario: what about me?
14:16 I love how his mustache is pointy from the the static electricity.
Mario Maker 2 literally has an entire story mode with levels made by the people who make Mario... It's literally the newest 2D mario game, not the wii u one.
Severely underrated, good stuff!

also the lightning suit idea sounds super cool
@@davetheimpaler204 agree, while I enjoyed it, the game is fairly short being an early Gameboy title
16:48 YES! YES YES YES YES! I didn’t realize how much I needed this until now😭
I'll just say this:Play Paper Mario 12 on Scratch, it has almost everything you want from a 2D Mario adventure!
And yes lighting Mario is in it too
this video is one of the most entertaining and well put together ones ive seen in a while. the mention of wario land shake it and its artstyle is an INSTANT sub.
The artstyle 🤢🤮
(Also if you haven't already, you should play/make videos about, the first 2 Paper Mario Games, and SMRPG)
Nintendo: WE GOTCHU BRO
6 more days till peak!
7:59 that was pretty funny
7:02 “no WONDER i was sick of the artstyle”…
Wow, I'm a prophet.
Honcho: Introducing: **Lightning Mario**
SM64 Land: **Already beat you to it. Three years ago**
This video aged well
Here’s a games that I’m hoping for that will never happen:
The artstyle is kind of like the paper Mario artstyle except looking like a painting on some bamboo background and an overall Japanese theme going on.
So each Koopaling boss you fight, you'd then play as after their brainwashing was knocked out
The very last world would have the villain flee to its own domain after Bowser's release in order to enact his master plan...in which case Bowser now becomes playable and the last courses really ratchet up the difficulty to match Bowser's burlyness.
That’s so cute
I've always wanted to play a real time M&L game with bro move platforming and kingdom hearts esc battling
14:15 OMG THE ANIMATION HERE WAS AMAZING- I NEED MORE OF THIS PLZ
Fun fact: I'm anxiously waiting for a new 2D Mario game and it better have 13 worlds if not more and at least 150 levels! (8 Worlds aren't enough and the amount of levels is becoming too low for the 2000+ hours of gameplay a game deserves without starting over)
Like if you are anxiously waiting another 2D Mario game like me.

This is a really awesome video, amazing job!
Everybody on their way to comment after wonder:
1:00 You have tricked me here 🤣
I thought that knock was in my room
My biggest dream was tô see them release Super Mario World 3
One Idea for a cool power up would be the penguin suit but for fire. Like if your in a Lava level you can swim in the lava. Or maybe Podoboos don't hurt you.
I like that you added the paper mario music, it’s a good soundtrack for a game
I'd love to see a 2D Mario game with a more unique artstyle. Perhaps a 2D Mario game that's actually 2D animated, like "Wario Land: Shake It!"?
Yess in the Mario 2d art style they always use
If you want 2d Mario so bad then play Mario maker 2 on the switch
When the knock happened it was so realistic that i thought someone was knocking on my window. bro puts good sound audio in his videos
You feel like the New Super Mario Bros 2 of Relax Alax.
sad that nintendo hates fangames so much, it would be much easier to pull off if nintendo gave this a chance as a fangame
honestly, i agree with the idea of playable characters, maybe they couldmake it similar to the mario and luigi series that there are levels where you NEED to play as a certain character or something
(and i definitely agree having bowser or daisy playable would be neat)
As for the new character idea here is a list of what they should do
Mario: basic movement maybe has some exclusive moves from 3d games but over basic
Luigi: basic like Mario but has different jumping physics and lacking some 3d moves
Blue toad: like Luigi but faster and not as high of a jump
Peach: would be like peachette from deluxe but with a few new 3d moves
Bowser: the most different idea I think you would unlock him at the end of world 1 or two can't use power ups that are not mushrooms but has a flame thrower like fire move and by default can take two hits and after getting a mushroom 3
I think all the characters be different would help alot
What I want personally is for them to make 2d mario game in the style of a 3d mario game. Maybe not a SANDBOX 2d Mario game(although I would murder for that, don't get me wrong), but a 2d Mario with the progression and design style of Galaxy would be a DREAM.
