    Great video. I still use my GH5s all the time for corporate video production. If you want a GH5 that is good in low light, and you’re willing to sacrifice IBS the GH5s with it’s dual native ISO and log as standard is the way to go. If you think the GH5 is underrated take a look the GH5s: hardly anyone talks about it anymore and it’s so capable for the price. Keep up the thoughtful videos.

      Thank you!
      I had two cameras with that sensor, the GH5s and the BMPCC4K. As a fast shooter that likes to work run-n-gun style, the missing IBIS was the reason I sold the GH5s.
      The GH5s absolutely delivers lovely images, but I wish Panasonic could make an IBIS version. That would be the perfect MFT video camera for me. It's able to caputre usable images in very dark scenarios that the GH5 wouldn't be able to resolve at the same settings. But as I said, low light isn't an issue in most scenarios, even on indoor events and weddings.
      My copy of the GH5s was faulty and had to be send in for repair. After that I found that the SloMo had some severe stairstepping issues. That was another reason why I sold it.
      If I come across the GH5s again I will definitely take another look at it. :)

    Danke! I discovered that problem with the ‘Aftermarket’ battery grip on my G9. It was during an outdoor fashion shoot last year and the camera was being very weird so I tried it without the battery grip and everything was perfect again. So I continued to use the battery grip just for video but last week it started being weird whilst recording video so I disposed of the battery grip!
    I have had no such problems with the battery grip on the GH5 and it’s made by the same company 🤷

      Yeah well it might be the lens camera battery grip combination that makes it weird. But I had that issue everytime I tried to shoot photos. I have a different aftermarket grip too with the same problem. I don't know what's the exact problem but it seems like I am not the only one.

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker So the one on my GH5 is older and has worked without a hitch but the (same 3rd party made) grip for my G9 worked fine for 1 year before developing an intermittent problem so Guys, it’s something to be aware of!
      I have decided not to replace the grip on my G9 and I just ordered a Small Rig cage for it together with a ‘Metabones’ Support plus a HDMI cable grip!

    I love the GH5. My main lens is the Leica 10-25mm f/1.7. I used the Sigmas as well. I also own and pair it with the excellent Panasonic HC-X2000 camcorder which has built in NDs and shoots 4K60 10-bit 4:2:0. Speaking of old EF lenses, on the GH5S, a 0.64x speedbooster gives roughly a 1.18x crop, so that's almost full frame and no vignetting since you'd be using full frame EF lenses. The GH5 and GH5S are amazing.

      Awesome combo. How easy do you find matching the GH5 to the X2000?
      Yeah the GH5S is a beast with the speedbooster. I had a GH5S but my copy had many bugs and the missing IBIS was something I missed often. But great IQ and low light performance.

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker Matching GH5 and HC-X2000 is easy as you'd expect. Here's some test footage I took with the camcorder: ua-cam.com/video/FuwTB8BdkMo/v-deo.html - Remember, it has a tiny sensor, but with that comes interesting advantages for certain situations. The screen is so sharp that you can actually manually focus on it. Instead of using focus peaking, I use "detail" which sharpens in focus areas. You can punch in while recording (something you can't do on GH5). And the built in NDs are awesome. Overall a very nice camcorder as a side / b cam for my GH5. The missing IBIS on the GH5S is a good thing if you want total control of where the sensor goes, but it definitely isn't practical for every day video. I sold my GH5S eventually. It was a perfect copy of that camera but I barely used it.

      @@BackusCreativeImaging I have been going back and forth about getting an X2000 (or one of the other two), but I am concerned about the small sensor regarding low light and aesthetics, since I would mostly need it for indoor stuff and for my B/C-Cam operators. Matching cameras is something I really don't want to use too much time on, so it's great to hear that it's easy to do. Your footage is absolutely beautiful but under ideal conditions for such a camcorder. My last 1/3"-sensor camera was the Canon G30, and it really struggled indoors. If it would be a 1"-camcorder and have V-Log L, that would be lovely. The FZ2000 had such a sensor and was great, but limiting regarding body and codecs. The CX350 and DVX200 are both very expensive for a B/C-Cam so I stick to my current multiple GH5 setup. Anyways, thank you for responding, great to hear that other people already work with a combo I have been thinking about for a while.
      Yes, absolutely, I get that about the GH5S, but everybody would also love to have a GH5S with IBIS. I know they say it's not possible because of the big sensor, but one can dream... My copy broke on my first gig with it (did testing before without any signs of damage), so I had to send it in. Afterwards it worked fine, but the stairstepping in VFR (above 100fps) was very bad and worse than my GH5. And like you, I hardly used it for practical resons. But the newly announced ProRes Raw firmware update is a great addition for existing owners.

    1:33 - Set Display button to "Operation Lock" - Problem solved. It still works for other options but when you press it when in standby / record mode, you'll see "Operation Lock" appear on screen for a second. You're about to like your GH5 even more after this. You're welcome. Just go in the menu and find Operation Lock setting.

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      That's a very good tip, thanks. I actually use the Display button for different scenarios, but for anyone who wants a fixed interface it's a great tip.

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker As I mentioned, you can still use the display button for all other operations even when it's locked (like resetting center when checking focus etc). It simply doesn't work when you press it when in normal standby mode, which is fantastic. I don't know if you know this, but you gotta try it out.

    Wow! I have been watching prices for the GH5 (in hopes it will go down when the GH6 comes out) and this video really helped me to feel better about the idea. The other camera I was considering was an S1, and I think you had a video about that recently, so I will go check it out too. What would you recommend in regard to a comparison of the two (GH5 and S1) in terms of price and convenience, especially if I were to use adapted lenses on the S1?

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on what you want. If you need high dynamic range, good low light capabilities and Prores Raw the S1 is the better choice. If you want to spare some money and can live with the MFT sensor I think the GH5 gives you most for the money. It's just a matter of what you want to afford and what IQ you are looking for. Yes the S1 has a better IQ, but it's also much heavier and still more expensive. Also, you are not able to use MFT lenses if you have one.
      I use both cameras for different jobs and I enjoy them both quite a lot for different reasons. Both are capable of producing great images.

      @@TheBudgetFilmmaker Thanks for all the great info here. I've been using a few M43 cameras (G7, G85, GX85) with Viltrox focal reducers, and I've been getting pretty good performance in low light with f/1.8 glass (mostly a 50mm) and sometimes even an f/2.8 (tried an f/1.4 on it AND IT WAS TOO MUCH LIGHT!) So, I'm comfortable with the M43 sensor, but am wondering if you've discovered any improvements to workflow with a full frame sensor. I know it's easier to find a used wide angle for full frame, because 28 or 24 is wide enough and there are so many 28mm lenses available, and even 24mm and wider can be pretty easy to find as well, just a bit more expensive😃

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker
      @TheBudgetFilmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah you are right, it's easier to find useful zooms that give background separation, like a 24-105 f4 or 24-70 f2.8. The Dual ISO also is usable up to ISO 12800. But I often use my APS-C glass in crop mode, like the Sigma 10-20, 18-35 and 50-150, because they have an awsome weight-performance ratio and work equally nice on both cameras.
      Workflow-wise I still prefer the GH5, it's easier to handle, the flip-out screen is awesome and VFR gives you better option for timelapse or slomo.
      Comparing both I can't say one is definitely better than the other. Both are very affordable but the GH5's accessories are much cheaper, so a whole set for the GH5 will be more cost effective.
      Also if you are already in the MFT system, want to stay in there, and don't need the DR and low light, I see no reason why you shouldn't choose the GH5 over the S1. But you can't go wrong with either of them. 😉

    • @TheBudgetFilmmaker

      For filmmakers clearly the GH5 because of no recording limit and All-I recording. It's simply the camera more suited for professional video recording. The G9 is a great hybrid with more photo functionality and great video, but the GH5 is a true filmmaking beast.
