  • Gday and welcome to another episode of Tomo’s tune ups. On this episode, I show you how to change and bleed the cooling system on your car. This advice is basic and general for a standard cooling system that doesn’t require any specific methods used to bleed it ie diagnostic equipment or it being done in a particular sequence. This is a general rule of thumb principle but before changing the coolant, consult your owners manual and do it as per specifications.

    I not long chajged water pump and thermostat ..and as i now have a new 1 will change out the coolant temp sensor . Im sire my fans are not coming on as requ9red but are working . Ive ran dc current to fans and are sounding great ..ill cone back to give update on whether the sensir helped .
    My exp tank would go a bit full or low. But the oniy time i see evidence of coolant in engine is around exp tank ..i had insiected it off the car no evidence of cracks but got 1 on order to be sure ..as when it oes have any coolant arounc it its in the recess area . And i also find it odd that hakfords recommended the coolajt ive put in its pink not green ..i believe the difference is ots long life . The 1 i have is no silocates etc

    Good video.
    Mazda´s requires FL22 coolant. What about Prestone, is it compatible? I just need to fill 0.3L, my car is stock

      Thanks for the feedback bud. I haven’t used Preston’s coolant before, but they claim “suitable for all makes and models” regardless of coolant colour. They do have a whopping 10 year or 480,000km protection from rust and corrosion. Wonder why this stuff isn’t sold more locally or isn’t known about. I guess modern coolants meet specific standards and OEM quality nowadays with technology.
      As for your coolant in your car, topping up with water is ok but if doing a flush, make sure you get your mixtures right. Hope this helps mate, Tomo

    Thanks for the video, just changed the coolant in my mazda 2 and it didnt take the whole 5 liter, 1 liter would go in, is that normal? radiator fan didnt kicked in, drove about 8km in traffic, let the engine run afterwards but radiator fan has not turned on. Thermostat opened eventually but no fan going. The coolant started to pour out so had to turn the engine off eventually.

    Hi, changed the thermostat and coolant on my mazda 2, when i bleed the system it keeps boiling over and then suck a good amount of coolant. Do I need the bleed top tool you are using? I have No heat in the cabin but fan and thermostat are working okay..

      Hi mate. Sounds like you have an air lock in the system. The funnel isn’t needed but will help bleed it. Try it from stone cold & run the engine until warm. Jack up the front of the vehicle so the radiator is the highest point, turn the AC off and heater on. Sounds like the blockage is likely in the heater. Dm me on Instagram if you get stuck further

    Interesting video. I've always bled the coolant circuits as you have and then throw the demister on max heat , max fan speed and wait until the heat goes hot from demister.

    Hey I notice you jacked up the 2 from the front, but I can't find any information on a front jacking point. Is any website or link that shows where to jack it from the front? It will be so much easier than using the pinch welds every time

      Hey mate, great question! From memory I jacked up the vehicle using the front subframe. It’s a structural part of the body so it’s safe to Jack the vehicle up using, so long as the Jack is on a flat surface, this will be suffice. Good spotto though! Tomo

    NEVER go under a car with just a jack supporting it. You need ramps or jack stands underneath too.

      1 trillion percent! The amount I see, both on a professional level and home jobs when people solely rely on a Jack is unbelievable. It’s honestly not worth the risk of losing your life. A very safe practice without a doubt

    Thxs heaps for this. I've got same Mazda 2. Would it be good idea to put just clean water through the system, with heater on full too, so to clean it out a bit more before putting new coolant in?

    • @Tomostuneups
      @Tomostuneups  Рік тому +1

      Hey mate, thanks for the feedback.
      Yep it definitely wouldn’t hurt. You could do one step further and remove the thermostat and flush the engine, remove both heater hoses and flush the heater core, as well as forward and reverse flushing the radiator whilst you’re there. That will help get rid of all the old coolant and any debris in the system. Alternatively, run a flush additive through there prior to draining. Hope that helps mate, Tomo
