    Hello and I have to thank you for the clarification. I have been struggling with this because during my practice quiz for school, my Uncle was dying from Sepsis and I just couldn't get it together. I think I got it now. I appreciate the help!

    Pls teach us about what are the do's and don'ts in sepsis coding like when to code status code and may I code status code with complication code and if I'm assigning post procedural septick shock should I assign a code for sepsis with it? Like those things and thanks for the video ❤

    Thank you so much! What about sequencing rules in case of catheter infection? I'm a little bit confused

    • @medicalcodingclarified
      @medicalcodingclarified  6 місяців тому

      Hi! What type of catheter are you referring to? A bloodstream infection due to a central line? A uti due to a Foley catheter?

    • @ChessAddict_
      @ChessAddict_ 6 місяців тому

      @@medicalcodingclarified I'm referring to an IV catheter, like a midline or central line catheter. I've seen a case (as a coding example) in the codebook, where the patient was described to have sepsis, as a consequence of a midline catheter infection. And in this example vascular device infection was assigned first, followed by a sepsis code. I wonder if this is because IV line infection is considered a complication, which takes precedence over a guideline to assign systemic infection first? Thank you so much for your valuable time!

      @@ChessAddict_ Yes, that is exactly why. The guidelines tell us to sequence codes for complications of care before the actual complication itself. Additionally, the tabular helps us out with instructional notes. So, for instance, if you are coding sepsis due to Central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), you would code T80.211 followed by the sepsis code. The guidelines tell us to do this and there is an instructional note at T80.2 saying to “Use additional code to identify the specific infection, such as sepsis”. I hope that helps! I will have to put a video together on this subject sometime in the future.

    I have a question as it relates to Sepsis, if this condition was resolved at the acute prior to transfer to a NF/SNF and the condition is no longer being treated, will the sepsis be coded as an active diagnosis or will it no longer be coded into the patients active diagnosis?
    Thank you ☺️

    • @medicalcodingclarified
      @medicalcodingclarified  8 місяців тому

      Hi Rosie! Are you asking if it would be coded at the skilled nursing facility? I only do inpatient coding, I don't have experience in SNF coding, but I would say that any condition that is resolved and no longer being treated would not be coded.
