You all mean so much to me and I’m glad we can share such a mutual and joyous connection through this music. We all know it's much more than the music that brings us together in the end of the day. I welcome all feedback. I'm just happy to be here on earth with you all, touching the same ground, breathing the same air... Hey now ! I just finished my tenth and final radiation ☢️ treatment for Stage 4 Prostate Cancer and I’m quite nauseous and I am in a good bit of pain even though I took my medicine. I’m going to listen to this, and hopefully fall asleep eventually. Thanks for the upload or whatever you young kids call it. Ha ha.

In 1973, my college roommate had spent the year before hitchhiking around the country following the Dead, he was devoted, He got me hooked, taught me how to hitchhike
too.
I saw the Dead at Watkins Glen Summer Jam, ‘73 with my brother. We camped about 50 feet front center stage, All 3 bands played Friday night & Saturday, 600,000 showed up to see the Dead, the Band & the Allman Bros. My brother is gone now, but this sure makes me think of him & our wild weekend at the Raceway!

Grateful Dead never stops surprising me. What they're creating is enormous. First you think it's a song then it's like a village or country or a continent and then maybe a planet. And all of the sudden: It's an entire universe with additional multiverses! It showes the endless possibilities of human imagination! Their way of doing music is magic. Their notes seem to fly deeper and higher than anything else. Overall I am thankful that we all can listen to this! It is such a pleasure and brightens up my day and night! Their music opens your heart and allows you to shine from the inside. Many times I say to people: "You have to listen to Grateful Dead it will change your life!" Because You truly feel alive & inspired when you hear them. Life is about joy, exploration and being kind to each other! This music is a celebration of the wonder of life!

00:17:21 I am so surprised. How did they come up with this? 1976 is a hot year. Jerry had many incredible moments with Jerry Garcia Band. For example "Sitting In Limbo" 1976-04-04 or same Date: Knocking on heaven's door.
00:27:19 Speaking of Heaven's door: With this Dark Star your are not only knocking on heavens doors! Hard to describe it: Transformative, sublime, majestic, deep dream state of the hive mind. I am totally in awe about this Dark Star. It's almost scary how good it is. Honey for the ears! Truly deserves to be famous! Btw.: Sugar Magnolia on the same date lets you scream: Sunshine day dream!! No matter where you are in life.
00:51:52 Jesus, what comes out of that is a pure eargasm! Precious delighting dynamics! With many: "Are you kidding me!?"-moments, wow! They're flirting with a million varieties of bliss. I missed Franklin's Tower after this one! They played it right after it on that day! Slipknot & Franklin are a sweet couple in fresh love.
01:06:40 - Oh, Phil you sweet humming bird! You can hear in the background how people scream in joy! You can feel in your tummy that you HAVE to dance hahaha! What a cooking jam!
01:14:00 - Has a really nice and warm turn around! It showes how life could be all the time all around the planet!
01:25:56 - You have to listen to this loud! All the adventures of the band and THE BEAR seem to be incarnated in this musical world!

01:58:10 Building the tension! Getting hot! Bringing out the growing sunshine! Flawless! Super tight with elegant energy.
02:03:27 - Incredible positive! Jerry is nailing it like the whole band! Playing in the Band & The dreamy Other One that night was really enjoyable too!
02:22:04 - One of the best Dancin' ever! The mount everest of Grooviness! A happy cat walk: GD arrives in astonishing high levels of happiness. Never has a band played this good. I rest my case here!! You have to jump and dance hahaha!
02:55:35 Everything seems calm and quite. And chill. Then Jerry quietly appears with a thousand mini notes like a centipede and it is getting intense all of the sudden! Incredible dynamics by the whole band unfolds!
02:59:23 Very inspired jam! So much to enjoy here! They have a song and then they take it out for a wide ride. Amazing musical storytelling! Jerry is the high flying bird and the whole band is building the world he is flying through. Phil is super bouncy!
03:03:02 This might be a "Supplication" Jam. Maybe 1977? ;) Followed by another one? Haha
03:11:20 Man Smart, Woman Smarter? Haha I am guessing now GD songs. Reminds me "Iko Iko" too. Feels definitely like the late 80s! Frivolous Keys by Brent with an amazing response by Jerry! Very caribbean and cheerful.
03:15:06 Out of the blue we have a: Dark Star! Totally different phase and face of the band: vulnerable, tender, delicate, peaceful. Like a warm rain in the rainforest. A creation that creates itself over and over again in beauty.

04:10:55 The Other One! Very dreamy until... 04:21:45 We have all of the sudden a minor fade out into a totally different world. A jazzy twisted derail. With a truly unique almost scary vibe. Dissolving into total madness. Fearlessly played! And boom: 04:26:54 Beauty starts again: First little! With hints. Then it grows! And Bob brings the morning dawn after a long night. The vibe so fresh. This is why Grateful Dead played in a totally different world. So many layers!

04:37:31 Sugaree!! Mindblowing gorgeous heaven!! You have to cry because it is so beautiful. Transcendent bliss. May 1977? I am not sure. But clearly one of the finest sweetest Sugaree's in history. Mindboggling astonishing fantastic land of milk and honey! I am utterly speechless!! Steals your face in a second!! The beauty never stops! I can't believe it!!

Groovin out at Dead shows were the highlight of the summers of my late teens and 20’s. Even met Chef Ra from High Times magazine at a show in Albany in ‘92! Shoulda bought his cookbook 🙁
This is amazing. I have slept to the jam compilation from the 70s and 80s almost every night for the past three years. I have painted endless art pieces to it, I have successfully turned a few pretty Ladies onto the dead playing this in the background at the right moments 😉 and so much self discovery and spiritual moments have happened to that video. Comforted me through breakups, sung me to sleep after my dad passed away last year. You have given such a wonderful gift to us heads and im only 23 and this shit has changed my entire life.
I've finally gotten together the musicians that are interested in playing in a Grateful Dead cover band because al the other Dead Cover bands are getting older, and our first show is june 22 and i finally get to take weirs place on rhythm guitar and my best friend in jerrys spot.
If it wasn't for these compilations i probably would have never grown so close to what The Dead did.
And i just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that

I think that was why they played, to lull you to those places without pebbles and with varying winds. At least that is my experience after 70 some shows. On some nights, they would Dew. Then there were the Other Ones. They kinda melt into a dream. There were songs to sleep thru, songs to urinate during, tunes to grumble about, concerns to be aired, praises to be given, and fuck yeah, always somebody there to elbow you to wake up, the 2nd set Bobby tune is over.

Thank you so much for all the time and work you put into these.....I like to listen to instrumental music when doing work that requires concentration and focus....usually alot of Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream type of stuff...these mixes are now part of my work flow....I absolutely love the Dead's lyrics and their singing , and also listen to a lot of full shows and songs, but honestly sometimes all we need is music, sweet music...
Waiting on the four hours of tuning tape. Can probably get that much from 3 shows. Miss those folks. 😁

Great picks! Many GOATS of mine are present here. The Fox Theater 5-19-77 Dancing is my fav. The band is on absolute fire! Shout out to the 11-17-73 Here Comes Sunshine. It is other worldly. The song Road Runner on the 2009 Let it Rock Volume 2 JGB album (live from unknown year) reminds me of this HCS. Give it a listen through the magnificent solo. It’s got to be 73!

In College One Roomate went Crazy because the Other Roomate listened to Eyes of the World on Repeat a hundred times a day.
I did this to my neighbor with Workingman's Dead and years later he told me that what stuck with him was the line 'please don't murder me'

I’ve had my fantasy set list in my head for years, and this compilation covers a lot of the bases! Thanks a million for sharing this, as it’s amazing from start to finish🔥👍
What would you change? (In interest of the next comp)
Right off the bat, starting with a bit of Supplication, you have my attention! Well you had my attention with the title, 6 hours of super heady jamming! Beautiful. Then when I clicked on the 'more' tab and saw all the '76, I thought to myself, 'heres someone who knows!....... something ". My favorite year can change a bit now and then but more often than not when I spin that particular wheel in my mind it lands on '76. Just something really, just...um.. perfect about 76 Dead imo. There was a lot of energy and excitement in what the individual players were doing and overall performances yet there was a continuous mellowness weaved throughout every show. Imo, it's really a year that stands alone because in my mind, I can hear 2 year (approximate) phases, like late 68- early 70, mid 70- early 72. 72 is kinda on its own giving birth to the glorious 73-74. 75 kinda stand on its own too with its only 4 crazy shows. Then you have our 76. And 77 and 78 of course. 79 and 80 and so on. Im kinda loosing steam here with my writing and thinking..lol... as i get lost in this beautiful dark star.........and away i go....,...
