just for you to know Johnny, TOZ is NOT Baikal. TOZ (Tulskii Oružeinõi Zavod) factory is in Tula, Baikal (IŽMash) factory is in Iževsk and they are totally different companies with totally different gun designs. I do own a TOZ-34 and I still hunt with it. Have been born in Soviet Union, now in EU and working in a gun shop. There are plenty of TOZ and IŽ (Baikal) guns here so you can trust my knowledge

In the days of the USSR and the state monopoly on foreign trade, the export of hunting rifles was carried out by the All-Union Foreign Trade Association "Raznoexport", which had the trademark "Baikal". Therefore, this brand can be both on the guns of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant(IZH), and on the guns of the Tula Weapons Plant (TOZ).

The TOZ isn’t as good as a Baikal because there’s no long bolt to secure the stock to the receiver. If you tighten the trigger guard screws to pinch the loose stock more firmly it changes the geometry of the internals, sears etc,and the gun won’t function right.

The same gun with less elaborate engravings is just around 300 GBP brand new :) - tozarms.com/catalog/gladkostvolnoe_oruzhie/toz_34r/ (a similar to what you were reviewing is around 800 GBP - tozarms.com/catalog/gladkostvolnoe_oruzhie/toz_34-podarochniy/ )
Finally, if you really want to assess what the modern Russian shotgun is, look at TOZ'es LT-5334 ( tozarms.com/catalog/gladkostvolnoe_oruzhie/lt_5334/ ), that gun is around 3,000 GBP and is designed for modern sport disciplines.

Old TOZ shotguns are highly appreciated in Hungary. They shoots really good. Most well know and available models are the external hammer side by sides here (TOZ-63, TOZ-66 and maybe the last external hammer model, the TOZ-54 - no logic in numbering I know).
I don't know how will we use these old guns when all lead shot will be banned by the EU's politicians (UK out of the EU now so you may have or will have different regulations)... :/
TOZ vs IZH: the TOZ guns are somewhat more delicate guns and IZH are somewhat more rugged, generally speaking. But both are well liked, I mean the old ones, especially from the Soviet era (no room for reject back than).

Why not? I owned two of them, one Over and under for sport shooting and the next , a Side by side for hunting. No problems. The Russian engineers and gunsmiths are not dumber as the Americans. Tula (TOZ) is a factory with one of the most tradicionally knowhow worldwide since 1712 (Zar Pjotr Pjerwui) I knew some of engineer s and gunsmiths personally. In pretty contrary I had a Savage BBF I regret bought. Shame on my head. But since nearly 20 years is a bad service for the so called Baikal. Any years ago I inherate some old style Merkels. If not, I'm using my Baikails untill today...

This would have probably been a gun for a member the intelligentsia (in effect the Soviet "middle class") for sure. Like a mechanical engineer let' say.
Average rural peastant or urban proletariat probably wouldn't have been able to afford this.
That being said, the old USSR/CCCP single shot Baikal guns are pretty great. As are the old ZH series Brno guns.

“I do not hate all Russian guns, this one is nice” 🤣🤣🤣 This particular gun is not usual soviet gun. This is "best gun" from Tula, the best, that they could made. Rusians call this class of guns "visoky rozbor". Literally it means "high disassembling". So, try to feel all irony. Stock hawe no checkering. Why? Because russian stockers does not know how to make it properly. Wood beauty is far away from "best quality" Also engraving is not the best example of that era.
Finally, I can't find any reason even to show this highly disassembled gun on this channel, rather than to say "I love this gun".

Ever heard of МЦ? These guns are worth tens of thousands even today and were made for party officials by hand. They're actual bespoke shotguns. Ian McCallum has a video on the МЦ made for Khruschev.

I heard about "ЦКИБ СОО" which crafted series of gun models called "МЦ". Even about its father "ШОМ". My friend is owner of few МЦ. See his MC 11 on this video: ua-cam.com/video/K6Fb1a3U_wQ/v-deo.html Early MC models were made as demonstration of soviet mastery of copy. But... They have russian spirit, as made in "axe and chizel" style. Now ЦКИБ СОО is dead. All masters left Russia in hungry 90's
