Love how 90% of the intro just sets the game up to be a typical dark fantasy game, and then the shift at 2:56 happens and basically portrays Caim and Angelus as the villains
I like how if you just approach the game with no foreknowledge, you would probably think that the video is where the real important shit is happening, and the intro text is just some cool-looking nonsense. Yet, literally every line either foreshadows *those* endings or reveals the actual themes of the game. (Spoilers below, obviously.) "The unsuppressed soul lets flow oceans of blood" - the first hint that your protagonist, Caim, is a total maniac. "The Watchers drink and raise high the basin of fire" - Ending C. Watchers laugh at mankind's stupidity, but they don't bother intervening this time because the dragons also got tired of mankind's shit and decided to do the job for them (basin of fire.) "Mighty generals hesitate beneath a crimson sky" - the sky turns to hell in the final chapter regardless of the ending you are in. Both the remains of the Union's troops, and even whatever was left of Empire's soldiers become much less important than the monsters drawn to the seeds at this point. "As the tears of a goddess flow, four lost temples forebode the coming of the queen." - The hint that you'll always lose all the seals because the Union's armies are hilariously bad, your companions keep screwing up and sending Caim in completely wrong places, and Caim himself would rather keep flying around and finding excuses to kill things than to stay and defend at least one seal. The coming of the queen is well, what endings D and E are about. "The dragon plummets from the tower of red thunder, and where it falls no-one has seen." Either you have not seen Ending E and this makes no sense to you, or you have, and this line is extremely painful. Bonus: the intro after that lovingly shows you Arioch, Leonard and Seere and completely ignores Verdelet, when he has more dialogue than all three of them combined.
"The Goddess, the King. We'll best the world can part with. The Angel, the Tower. We'll see the end just take way. The Goddess the King, We'll best the world can harness. The Angel the Tower, We'll see the end just take way." How close am I?
i remember playing the intro mission and found myself slaughtering soldiers till one minute before the time runs out. felt like you've started the game with lvl 60+

Still can’t find any lyrics for this but after hearing Shin Godzilla’s Persecution of the Masses, the words to this are definitely heavily Japanese-accented English. You can distinctly hear “S”s and other consonants. From what little I can discern I break it down like this: The Darkness The Queen Something, Something, Something. The Legend The Tower Something, Something, Gateway/Segway. These lyrics link up to the Legend being written on the screen, and how it’s foreshadowing what’s to come in the story (aka, a Gateway to the world of NIER). You fight the Queen Grotesquery, and your Dragon gets impaled on Tokyo Tower causing the chain of events for the spin off game NIER. This would make everything tie in together and help build an extra layer to this game.
It seems to me the second part is something like "we've seen the endless(end of this?) gateway", when the first part is the most weird one here, like "we've bestowal" smth smth. Meh, still curious about this
My interpretation on the changed lyrics starting at 2:38 Listen to 0:31 and it sounds like "we face the broken, heartless" The darkness The queen We would face this power then someday The angel The tower We see the endless gateway "We would face this power then, someday" instead of "We face the broken, heartless" I think this is a reference to what will happen in the future chapters because it references Caim and Angelus facing the watchers. This seems to fit because they face they broken and hearless first which are the armies and people under the control of the gods. Inuart and Manah were "broken" along with the armies with red eyes because their minds were unstable and thus they could be possessed into doing the god's bidding. Then in the later parts, Caim and Angelus no longer battle the ones who are broken and now battle the higher power pulling the strings. The watchers are not the gods but still, close enough. Btw Power and Tower sounds interchangeable tbh so it could be still we would face this tower then, someday.
My understanding of these supposed appoximated lyrics (Keep in mind, not everything is meant to be deep because song lyrics are just supposed to sound cool and not too out of place) The Darkness- Generic chaotic word for this game set in a world full of death, war, 5 bad endings and etc. It could also refer to the evil encroaching upon the world who are the cause of all the bad things happening. They are the Empire, Watchers, and Gods. Could be both. The Queen- The Queen-Beast or Grotesquerie Queen obviously We face the broken, heartless- They broken and hearless first which are the armies and people under the control of the gods. Inuart and Manah were "broken" along with the armies with red eyes because their minds were unstable and thus they could be possessed into doing the god's bidding. Heartless could be another generic bad guy adjective that fits the syllables for the lyrics. The angel- Could be refferencing Angelus because it's in her name and in the Japanese version it's literally Angel and it was only changed to Angelus for the western release. The tower- What that guy said, could be referencing Tokyo Tower at the end. We see the endless gateway- The gateway to the "Land of the Gods" is what they took to send themselves with the Queen to Tokyo. Endless could be a generic word added or maybe it refers to how grand and transmundane the mode of transportation they took which is dimension hopping so endless fits as an adjective. They broke time and space, crossed over to another world, and yada yada yada so yeah. Note: None of the lyrics are official and I could be totally wrong since it's likely we misheard some of the lyrics. The team could not have given deeper meanings to the lyrics just cause.
The intro is actually quite funny. It would be like a fighter jet decides to use your body as a run away and then decides to have a melee match with everyone on the ground.
this music is seriously unlike anything else in this game's ost... its like baiting you with it, like haha dont worry its just a big ol knights and dragons fantasy game ;)
3:00 no matter how many times i watch this, this moment will always irritate me to no end. Caim sprints up, gathering all that momentum, and what does he do? Lose all that momentum by fumbling around, waving his sword around, before finally making a swing. All because the visual director decided they wanted a side profile close-up right after that.

It's so good... Caim is still my favorite protagonist, such a flawed and interesting character, and the fact that he can't speak only makes it better. By the way, nice profile picture ;) most people won't ever really understand the meaning of the caduceus
I've played both series and Drakengard(including Nier) managed to be more disturbing and trippy for me. Especially since there are many dimensional splits in the story .

I recently found this game at my local retro game store, and I honestly cannot believe that it was made by Square Enix. I mean, this is completely different from anything they've ever done, but it's a damn good game, even if it really rare. I had never even heard of it until now, but what sold me on it was the dragon.

Thats just Volume 2 of Berserk though. He's the *good* guy. He kills *bad* guys. :)
still have a ps2 copy, it's been over a decade and I can never forget the atmosphere of this game

Well, the empire is pretty fucked up too... Caim isn't the wordt here...
Game of the Decade. Hands down. Introduced me to concepts such as existentialism, cosmic horror, and moral ambiguity. Loved every second of this game

seriously how does no one know what the hell this song's name is or have a rip of some sort for it?!
It's odd. This is truly great intro music, and you would think someone would.
I really want a clean version of this and it hurts there isn't nor has anyone made an attempt at a clean rip.
There is now a tool to rip files. Its on the drakengard subreddit. I plan on looking into it myself this weekend

Everything about this game was made to irritate you in one way or another, that's kind of the point; this is a very grim game.

It looks very similar to Demon's Souls intro
But it's older than Demon's Souls
Yeah they kinda have a similar atmosphere.

Самая большая трагедия этой игры-Square Enix так и не выпустили трек из этого интро. От этого мне просто больно.
@chainaxe8 It's not actually even on the soundtrack oddly, so I'm unsure if anyone would be able to tell you. It's probably just known as 'intro'.
dam... that was a trip...
One of my most favorite games of man kind😈⚔️✨
Slow the speed down on reply.. At (2:24). This is (something something) Destiny.
I prefer Nier: Gestalt as a game, but this intro is vastly better than Gestalt's.
anyone know the name of the music used in the intro of this game

wat is the name of this song anyone now hmmmmmm.......

God I really wnat to know what this fucking song's name is. Or atleast a clean version of it.

does this song have a name?
