I forgot to mention two things: 1) The step drills with ends cut off are for making larger diameter holes in shallow areas like the inside corner brace where you could otherwise easily drill through the outer skin of the fender 2) Obviously Mitch installed the guard onto the angle grinder before doing any work. That tool list was done tongue in cheek before we decided to use it. Hope that satisfies Smooth Rider, Uncle Tony & anyone else who expressed valid safety concerns Now get to making chips & dust finding yourself some Free ET
It all adds up, that Mustangs time slips proves it, for no more than has been done to the engine. There's people with three times the money he has in that engine, not running as fast as he is. To me that's where the fun is taking less and making more.
Absolutely! Doing more with less is what motivates us to mess with our cars. And we want to hear from the viewers on how they run fast, with less. OR, what their dream budget combo would be, and how fast they believe they could make it run. How about you John, what’s your dream budget combo and/or what do you drive now?
Are you going to lighten your fenders after watching this video. Or possibly your inner fenders or other areas on your car? Tell us about it here in the comments. Don’t forget, if you start with heavier panels the weight reduction is even greater. I wonder how much you could get out of a fender from the ‘60s or ‘70s and still not be able to see it... Somebody try it! And report back here. If you shoot video, maybe we can include it in a future installment of Worth The Weight
I've never drilled out fenders but I have drilled out Fox fog light bars in the past. I've also replaced the '79-'86 steel front bumper in my '85 (and planning to on my '83 Capri) with the plastic '87-'93 bumper. Had to trim it some and cut holes to mount the marker lights, but dropped alot of weight. I know some people remove it completely, I just prefer having something there, especially on the street. Even before I found your vids, I've been thinking about (but don't if it's worth it) drillng out the REAR bumpers.
FoxFordCatGuy I never recommend removing weight from the rear of any street/strip car - especially a light assed Fox platform car - because most cars are so nose heavy from the factory and need all the weight transfer they can get. Typically, any weight we can remove from the nose I add to the rear. That increase in rear weight aids traction & improves ET more than just reducing overall weight by pulling it off the nose. Just curious, are you a Cat lover (pets) or into heavy equipment?
Joseph Taverna I’m old, of course I’ve heard of it. You don’t want to throw a brick at my head, do you? You guys can search Krazy Kat & Ignatz the Mouse
Joseph Taverna Thanks, will do Still trying to figure out if I’m Krazy Kat, Ignatz or you slyly figured out how to make me reveal my age. Ya know, that’s a question one never asks a drag racer
Yes! You mean you didn’t watch the entire video Sir. Chester McNuts SR? That makes us sad. lol The answer is just shy of 2.5 pounds was removed from each fender. Are you going to lighten your fenders this way, too?
Doe! 🤦♂️ I was watching it at work so I couldn’t really hear it well. At some point I will give that a go on one of my cars. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.
Watching at work?! (We won’t tell.) It’s our pleasure to share. We have to keep this hobby - no, lifestyle - alive! I hope you guys share your knowledge, tell the world about content like this and corrupt the younger generations so they can enjoy what we do. Please, document your experiments & share them here. What kind of cars are in your collection?
I’m sure this is waay out of left field: Have you or anyone you knew lightened up a stock K member? Would it be too dangerous? Or maybe just a big waste of time?
Ray Stang I haven’t personally. Done carefully you could certainly lighten a factory K member. There is a lot of material there, so the savings would be worth it. If a tubular K can withstand street use, a lightened stock unit should as well. Just don’t overdo it. Especially if the car is over 3200 lbs and/or it sees harsh street use
Stick man, I’d love to do something like that to contribute to the channel/community, but my Stang is my DD and I don’t have any back up cars.....not saying it won’t happen but I have to plan pretty far ahead before my car goes under the knife. But if the stars line up I will DEFINITELY let your crew know!
Kraven MoreHoes Ahem! You’d have to talk to him about that. Guy likes to eat AND race. To your point, a light driver is cheaper. You don’t have to spend on tubular k-members and such
Amputation is not allowed for viewers of this channel. A Slim Fast shake for lunch and a sensible meal for dinner is, however, an acceptable alternative
Sikulz 9550 Prior to the current weight reduction plan for the nose of the car, it typically tickled 3000 lbs w/driver in race trim (low fuel level, otherwise as pictured in the Meet Agent AOD video). The goal now is to lighten the nose so the car can have even better balance at 3000 pounds. Before the car didn’t transfer weight well on launch until we moved some weight to the rear. Now the 60’ times are not only better, but more consistent. And the car is quicker overall just from shifting weight rearward. We’ll talk more about that in other videos
@@stickmansgarage9452 thank you for the reply Neil!!! I enjoy your channel and the tech. I didnt realize you owned the "Value Minded Mustang" I'm a fan. Keep up the good work.
Sikulz 9550 Oh no, not another Stalker of the ‘84! lol Thank you. That’s a popular car. I’ve owned it since the mid 90s. Can I tell you a secret? I shot an interview with the original owner, Barry Shepard, last month. We talked about how the Ford Motorsport SVO parts program re-introduced factory backed cars. That’s coming later in the summer. What Mustangs have you had. Did you stick to more Stocker-type stuff or more heavily modified cars?
@@stickmansgarage9452 Lol yep. Stalker/Fan-potato/pototo. Looking forward to the inside scoop on your 84!!! I've had 5 different 5.0 mustangs I've raced. Gears and Tires are my favorite 1st changes. 12s for cheap, basic bolt ons, ported stock stuff, and iron GT40s are my go-to.
You have learned well, my friend. He who does more with less, does more, more often! Haven’t played with the ‘84 trying to get the channel rolling, but we’ve got some new parts to try. Absolutely. I have a ratty fox that getting a gasser look to it. It's an 85 ttop. And getting a pace car rusty front clip that I have . Cars fastest with a stock rebuilt 85 long block was 12.56@100. Was running out of gear by 900'.
The k member is getting a spacer and a spacer on the strut and stock new gt springs. The car already sat really low in the back and a little high in the front. But, I'm guessing it'll be raised about 2-3 inches in the front.
ua-cam.com/video/iHVslZfHLqU/v-deo.html That's my 85 with an 83 nose on it. I hit a deer at 60 mph and a drunk driver backed into my drivers door all on one roadtrip in 2014.

@@black88coupe Yes I understand that, I was simply stating you have a handle on that car, reguardless if it's a Fox body or Volkswagen.
John Laws Right on brother and THANKS!
I know! He needs to strip the paint and remove the seats, fuel tank, battery, and tires. Every ounce counts!
You are right, the black color really helps the spaghetti job look nice.
Sam Hagins She ain’t pretty but she keeps me happy. FUNCTION over form on this thing.

It definitely worked on Agent AOD
Every ounce really counts, great stuff..
You’re absolutely right, Andy. It’s easier to find 16 places to lose 1 ounce than it is to find a single spot to lose 1 pound

I eliminated 100% percent of the weight of a 88 Mustang !
Fuck that remove the fenders replace with tin foil from the dollar store add paint.
You must watch Uncle Tony’s Garage
If you remove the panels from a Mopar it says Budweiser on the inside
Step up your game remove all sheetmetal and replace with duct tape.
Sean Fagan Bro
Little too much friction from duct tape
And not firm enough for good aero
Maybe some of that shiny metallic duct tape? Hmmm...
MITCH!! lol
200 mile an hour tape like NASCAR
Instead of a clean flat piece of metal for air to run over you have a ton of edges for air to catch and add resistance to the car
Chris Artiga there comes a time when aero matters far more than weight..thank you for pointing this out
At the speeds the car is running I would question how much aerodynamics plays into it. But it's worth considering.
Luckily, it hasn’t slowed down yet
We’re gonna draw the line at bullet sized holes in the outer Sheetmetal...
But if that was true the car would be slower and doing it made it faster so I don't think it adds that much resistance.
