That portable flood light was a brilliant idea that brightened an already illuminating adventure. BTW there are fun slots and caverns carved into the east slopes of Corkscrew Canyon.
That's a cool addition to already spectacular Sidewinder. I hit that area at the end of November '23 but being solo, a big dryfall like that makes me too nervous. Thanks for sharing.
I think having the floodlight helped me to see the hand and footholds a lot better. In the past, I had only been in there with just a flashlight and didn’t even consider climbing.
@@steveinathens I'm sure it did. I need better lighting for my videos. I tried to use a handheld light as well, but those dark caves etc seem to suck the light.
@@steveinathens I agree. I had brought a new Nebo headlamp with me when I explored those new mud caves. Was useless. Flickered in all the video so I was stuck with my cellphone flashlight which wasn't bright enough. Live and learn. Thanks for your tips.
Steve, really enjoying your videos, I've subscribed and told all my friends. My buddy and i recently tried this hike, we were following along to your video and pretty sure we got to the place where you took off your pack and squeezed through a tight spot. However the spot looked a little differently shaped and once through we didn't see a way to proceed. Any insights? We did find Sunlight Bridge and that was spectacular.
I don't really recommend this hike beyond the major dry fall. The dry fall hand and footholds could give way at any moment when climbing due to the type of rock. Extreme caution is in order. For Sidewinder Canyon info, visit the park web site at www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/sidewinder-canyon.htm for print-outs and maps. I was in what is labeled there as the 1st slot.
Great discoveries and inspiration to get out and hike a canyon!

The other aspect to consider with using lighting in caves is that flickering can become an issue on the recording. Not easy to deal with.
