This video showcases one of my favorite aspects of Death Valley - the ability to self-navigate "off trail" across the terrain. With proper equipment and preparation this is truly a National Park that can be wandered.
I watched all nine of your episodes today and loved each of them. Some of the best videos I have seen of Death Valley. Back in the 60s, I took a course on Death Valley at UCR which included a three day trip to Death Valley. It was a wonderful course, but never did hear about all the slot canyons and some of the other wonderful places you showed. Thanks, and I will be looking forward to seeing more of your videos in the future. It was good to see your son hiking and enjoying what he saw. It was a great experience for him.
FANTASTIC! he passage is really cool and that view from the GReat Dry fall is amazing. tons of awesome views thanks for sharing! we finally made it up to see the lake last weekend/ worked out well it was greatly refilled from the rains. Desert gold was blooming big all over by our camp at the 15. Love being in those little washes with you, makes me want to go back to the desert thanks for taking us with you
Thanks Steve, another wealth of info. I have a question for you. If you had to choose between the Grand Canyon and Death Valley for a hiking location for the rest of your life which one would you pick?
Hey Carson. I would definitely choose Death Valley. Endless hiking opportunities with hundreds of canyons and 200 recognized major peaks (or high points). I love Grand Canyon, but it's not even close as far as what I would choose.
Hi Steve-another awesome video-thank you! This canyon is my favorite in the Owlsheads so far! Im having trouble finding it on Google Earth. Do you have GPS coords for the mouth? Thanks!
That's a good question to stop by and ask at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. The road was in really bad condition when I drove it in January with areas of deep sand and sections that were a lot rougher than normal.
Anytime the park has flash flood events, the canyon wash becomes a fast-flowing river. Might happen a couple of times per year at most and usually just last for several hours.
Love the texture and crunch of the decomposed granite.

Super cool granite passage. Great video
Thanks for another great peek into the Owlsheads! Appreciate all the extra info that comes with 30 days out there.
Magnetite!
Thanks for the video report!

@@kerryb8810Having hiked both, I too choose Death Valley😎

Sure, the mouth of Passage Canyon is located at 35.760734, -116.580615. I'm fairly sure The Passage itself is located at 35.749737, -116.604160.
Wondering if Harry Wade Rd is drivable in 2wd with moderate clearance? I’d love to visit someday and collect a few balloon remnants myself :)

It looks like there are fast water torrents that go through there. Any idea how often, or how deep?

I wonder what that looks like in a big downpour.
Any wildlife that you've seen?
In the Owlsheads I’ve seen lots of wild burros, lizards, at least one sidewinder snake, and a desert tortoise.
🎉
