It was a pretty good movie but hearing this soundtrack isolated is better. Incredible, various tunings and stereo images of those drums is revolutionary
Alejandro actually made a really great score here. The ambiance of the background sound is just amazing. It gets you in the mood to listen to something fresh. A sound with passion and forward momentum.

I came here the same way. As Easy is for me to understand The Maestro Zakir Hussain's Tabla and to appreciate it and to get goosebumps by his performance, I just couldn't understand this performance. it felt incomplete as if someone is learning to play. I liked drums in Whiplash. well but the maestro himself has suggested this so maybe its above my understanding.
Is this some kind of a group performance, that is being played by one person? Or is it a collection of different scenes over time? I am asking this as there are many vicissitudes of colours, tones and emotions in one single piece. This is an extremely unique jewel in its kind as I cannot imagine the range of emotions and mental states Antonio would have gone through to compose this in one piece.

*mix* That one word has me questioning whether you are simply making a joke about this being drums only or if you are saying you dislike the low end of the mix
The score is just Antonio Sanchez going insane with a drum in an empty room. Criminal that it wasn't even considered enough for an Oscar nomination
Percussion gets no respect! its a shame
I read the score used too much preexisting material to be considered but it’s still a crime
This music played a big role in winning the film Oscars
THAT IS THE TRUTH.
Ironic, because the score was disqualified from being nominated. Shame

A whole musical tune only with drums !!

The trace left by Antonio Sanchez in the field of drums will be equivalent to that left by Gary Burton in the field of vibraphone
Goosebumps all the way through. Goodness me!! What drumming!!!!!
Incredible how he can portray a full, complex, up and down emotionality with just the drums
