I love the intros for the best picture nominees.
Even I am
Wonder why they stopped doing it
Why did they stop doing that?
I agree
for sure ...these days they are amatuer
It took 12 years for Boyhood to lose an Oscar
Francis M. 12 Years a Slave! :D
i'm sorry, as much as I liked Boyhood, it should not have won just because it was made over a span of 12 years and btw, if you combine all the time they ACTUALLY spent making the film, it's the same amount as any other film. Boyhood was like a seasonal job, meet up once a month and they had 12 years to prove upon the script and work on others.
Alejandro definitely deserved Best Director. And if boyhood should've won anything other than Patricia Heaton winning, Best Picture would have ben suitable in Producing terms not artistic terms as that was well-deserved for Birdman. But lets not also forget how much The Academy loves movies about movies/showbusiness
Don't admire the film just because of its gimmick. However... it was robbed. Birdman was amazing, but Boyhood is a masterpiece, one of the best pictures made in the past 15 years.
Herman Gomez Ha,best joke I ever heard,man. Good one.
Christian Boudreaux This was one of those years with two very exceptional films are up for Best Picture and Director... typically the academy is gracious enough to split the two awards... and had it done so, I would not be bitching. Birdman is a solid for Best Picture... so I'm not nearly as mad as I would be if any of the other six won (Especially American Sniper) however, I feel justice would have been served if Boyhood on Director and Birdman won picture... or vise verse... the fact that Birdman won both is what aagitates me.
It’s unfortunate that Whiplash and Birdman were made in the same year because they both deserved Best Picture
Similar to how both La La Land and Moonlight both deserved it. Damien Chazelle just picks the wrong years to release his phenomenal movies lol
@Mister X are you kidding, different year lol
@Mister X i preferred the shape of water though, it was more visually beautiful
@@edgarperez7141 lalaland also had some gorgeous shots
@@edgarperez7141 Bro, more than La La Land?
I think I can safely call this one of the most experimental oscars ever many of these movies were straight up experiments the more you think about it, boyhood taking 12 years to make, Grand Budapest with its constantly changing aspect ratios from full screen to letter box, right on down to looking like it was shot on 8mm, birdman with its exceptional cinematography the camera never breaking or cutting to another scene giving the appearance of being shot in one take, I haven't seen movie making like that in a long time.
Superman13195 Its alright some people might like it others won't its just an opinion and not everyone will agree with it. in time maybe there will be other people who will like it and if they don't thats ok as well.
Superman13195 I know you weren't you did click the like button thank you for that I'm just saying some people will click the like others won't sorry if that didn't come off clearly enough.
I felt the same. Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance), Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel are the movies has set a milestone in film making.
+dannytheman1313 I agree. The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything were both good, but they were also pretty much by-the-numbers Oscar bait.
+dannytheman1313 That's a wonderful observation! I don't even know you, but you're a freaking genius!
Michael Keaton loses.... still gets to make a quick speech. Why? .... Because he's Batman!
IN DEED!... And BEETTLEJUICE!

He was Batman twice but he's Birdman forever.
Sean Penn is not racist. I saw this live and thought the same thing.
Sean and the director of BM are close friends and always crack jokes on each other.
That's why they hugged when they won.

MagicianFlip69 and handsome
Alejandro G.Iñarritu + Leonardo Dicaprio + New Movie = Oscar for both

You're a wizard!
It did happen 😂
Jimmy Lopez you're a wizard, Jim! Haha
No body and I mean NO BODY could have done the part of Riggan Thompson other than Michael Keaton.
that is true...and the humility to take a joke at his whole entire career...i mean after all birdman is batman riggan is keaton....class
All the fucking movie is a comment of itself. There is some metaphysical shit going on there. Favorite movie of all times.
I could think 🤔 maybe steve carell could of done it justice.. Either way michael and steve are powerhouse s actors in their oun right

A well deserved Oscar. Birdman is one of the best films I've seen in a while.
+theking24 Boyhood was better.
+Moses T there both good!
+Tompk Not even close.
Boyhood was pretty boring, but still not a bad film.
Reptile estrin It's not bad,but it's incredibly overrated and nowhere near Birdman,Whiplash and Grand Budapest Hotel.
"Two Mexicans in a row? That's suspicious." Cut to 4 years later when 5 of the last 6 best director winners were one of 3 Mexicans.

I genuinely think that this was the last great year at the Oscars. Birdman, Whiplash, Boyhood and the Grand Budapest Hotel were far better than many of the films that have won Best Picture recently.
I think 2017 was also a good year because there was lots of brilliant movies that came out in 2016. Moonlight, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, Fences, Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, and Hell or High Water were all excellent movies and were also very different from each other which made it interesting.
@@Unknown-ol2uh wow u actually destroyed this man with pure facts lmao
People seem to forget 2019. Parasite, Ford V Ferrari, 1917, Pain & Glory. Many fantastic films.

@@Unknown-ol2uh even Hidden Figures is also one of the best nominated films. I can predict decades later it will be preserved for culturally and aesthetically significant.

Interstellar should have been nominated over American Sniper.
And Michael Keaton should have won best actor
No way, Interstellar was perfect until its stupid and ridiculously convoluted third act. That screwed up everything.
+The Blue Sorcerer Still better than American Sniper
Are you kidding did you even watch the theory of everything
+Iury Matos Gone Girl should've been nominated over American Sniper
american sniper suck af. mad max should win this oscar
I didnt felt this satisfied after watching a movie for a long period of time ...Birdman is so crazily good !! I remember watching American beauty and feeling like that !
well said!! That's exactly how I felt after watching it. The comparison with American Beauty is spot on. Both of them are exceptional films.
My mom and I were watching the Oscars while I was in the hospital and we both jumped from joy when Alejandro won, the nurses came running thinking I was having an attack or something. xD
+AangelKataang So nice! Are you mexican?
+Goncas RC yup, I am. :D

Birdman is the greatest "best picture winner" since The return of the king. So deserved. And yet there were so many other brillant movies. I think 2014 was the best year for movies since 1994.
One of them! Six of the best picture noms where masterpieces. And there are at least three films not on the list that were equally good! I hope this year can at least match last year.
Bit more recent, I think it's the best since No Country For Old Men.(Not a knock against the phenomenal ROTK, just a more recent masterpiece to have won.)
What do you think about the year of 1999 in terms of movies? It's often considered one of the best years for movies
Quetzal00358 Part of the reason is American Beauty
WreStlinGaddict1000 i agree
Finally the right choice win. It's that simple.
The nomination intro is way better than nowadays Oscar.................
Absolutely, it's so fun to watch. Why they didn't bring it back these days, I'll never understand it
One of the most deserving Best Picture winners of all time
You must've started watching films very very recently.
Appolo Bozec Someone said the same thing about Eddie Hackmayne
Lina Agosto To everyone who saw Lina's post: Read carefully. She did not say the best of all time. As for one of the best of all time well there will need to be a pretty long list but as foe where it goes...certainly not at the top.
***** You literally have a profile pic of a guy grabbing a nuns ass brah.

I loved Birdman, I can't understand for the life of me how some people thought it was boring..... I just can't. It's a masterpiece! to put an emotion such as the ego and portray how it goes about in our daily life, through the ongoing communication we have with ourselves, and the world. To be able and put onscreen the ongoing mind battles humans have, I mean what a clever and unique movie this was. I can't wait for the "Revenant"!!!!! I heard it was a bit too bloody and strong, but I'll watch nonetheless ........
+annacoribioanna Maybe Birdman is not completely boring but sometime I felt that some scene or part drag so much. I don't know why but I just don't "feel" the movie. Not hating on the fact that Birdman won I respect the movie.
The Revenant is a masterpiece trust me, it deserved to win best picture, though i have yet to see Spotlight so i can't say which one of those two deserved the AA the most. Birdman deserved the oscar, as much as Innaritu did deserve his back-to-back best directing oscars (Birdman and Revenant)
On first watch, I think the first half dragged on a bit, and there were too many silly/overacted dialogue moments for me. but as the movie progressed the style and theme of the film made more sense
It's not boring, i think it's just counfusing af
Sammi Sweatheart I’m 4 years late but I felt the same way. I respect it but unfortunately I didn’t feel it. The dialogue felt so weird and some of the characters were annoying or boring. Still I recommend it to other people who I think would enjoy it more than me.
EDWARD NORTON DESERVES AN OSCAR

Just saw Birdman yesterday. Outstanding film. One of the best films to win Best Picture in recent years.
My favorite film of 2014. I have no problems with this Oscar victory at all. :D
I'm glad Michael Keaton got his moment. Without him, this film wouldn't have been as integrated or as meta as it ended up becoming.
On a side note--Oscars channel, thank you for not skipping any part of the presentation. ^_^
Keaton should've WON the Oscar - now I don't even like Eddie Redmayne even more!
Rand Paul 2016 - Free Kent Hovind Still, one mustn't be surprised. Once Redmayne won the other Golden Globe, he was Keaton's competition. Then, once Redmayne snowballed SAG (which was admittedly always up in the air) and BAFTA (which almost always goes Brit), the one-time critics-darling Keaton was made the runner-up.
This is historical. Not only he is the first latino to get this award, but also he is the secon person (not movie) to win three Oscars for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture. Congrats Birdman is a great movie with a social commentary with no boredom (of course there will be exceptions but comparing Birdman against others like The King Speech or 12 Years a Slave there will be more people who will prefer Birdman).
2014 will be remembered as one of the best years of film making. Congrats to Iñarritu and to the other nominees who were as worthy as Birdman to win :)

I absolutely love this win and most of this year's big winners like not just Birdman, but Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash, which are all more outside the box choices. Usually, they go for prestige and sentimental over more cinematic filmmaking like when English Patient beat Fargo, Rocky beat Taxi Driver, and Dances with Wolves beat Goodfellas. So the first three mentioned films emerging as the big winners this year was a nice change of pace. Great job, Academy!
budapest was my favorite i know it was not gonna win but it's still my favorite movie of the past year, men wes anderson is a great filmaker and it was funny to see how the people who won for the movie thank to him for that
Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige, my friend.
Superman13195 holy fuck seriously?!?! Dances with Wolves better than Goodfellas?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?! also The English Patient is the most boring movie ever made, and don't say its because I don't appreciate movies that are slow paced. I loved Enemy and The Rover from this year. Brazil is also one of my favorite movies of all time, and Blade Runner is one of my favorite sci fi films. English Patient was just bad, and thats painful for me to say because I am a huge Ralph Fiennes fan.
Matt St.Clair I actually disagree with you on Rocky beating Taxi Driver, since Rocky is my favorite film.

Diego Pisfil Hey have you heard of this film called Boyhood, there’s a lot of great things about it, like taking 12 yrs to make, and the 12yrs they worked on it, and the period of time (12yrs) the director worked on it... and... uh
@@gabes5548 I don’t know that statement is real or just gimmick. But BIRDMAN deserved to win
I love it when you see a movie totally snub in a particular year and then be seen as a classic as time passes by, even thought Birdman and Boyhood were the top contenders this year, it's very satisfying to see how Whiplash just has become the best rated movie of 2014 throughout all different critics and websites, and I think that's really what sticks in the end
Birdman its better rated than Whiplash though, it paved the way to 1917 as well.
So proud that Birdman ended up winning! I also loved Boyhood but once you take the fact that it took 12 years to make it you realize that Birdman was the most innovative of the two. Inarritu is an incredible director and as a Mexican-born kid living in the US I look up to him and all the other directors/witers/producers (Cuaron and Del Toro for example) that arent afraid to make bold movies and tell innovative stories to the world, sharing their creativity and passion. Bravo Senor Inarritu bravo!
Birdman to this day is still a masterpiece of a movie, well deserved

How come Gone Girl wasn't nominated? It was wayyyyy better than The Theory of Everything...
Gone girl was better than theory, imitation game, and sniper combined
+doody magoob You're probably joking, but still, to be honest, I think The Imitation Game is pretty damn good, not better than Gone Girl though.
I wanna say because Rosamund Pike's character is an evil c**t, but that didn't keep "Whiplash" from being nominated.

@@guy5529 PTA is in the back.
The difference between Birdman and Boyhood is that Boyhood is just a child maturing into a man, and the special short moments within childhood. Not that that doesn't make a great movie, but the only thing truly original about Boyhood is the fact that it's the same face over 12 years. Birdman is more deserving of the award because it's more original and unique than all the other Best Picture contenders. I believe if it wasn't for Birdman, Boyhood definitely would have won because childhood is so, so special.

My favourite Oscar winner in years.
For all those people who say Boyhood was not a technical achievement because it was a 6-month production spread across 12 years, if you think about it, it actually was a technical achievement. Just imagine what the editor had to do - assembling 12 different annual events together and connecting them into one long jounrey. The film could have felt choppy or like one of those anthology movies, but it didn't.

¡¡Qué pedazo de películas, todas excepcionales!!
Here's my top 8 (and my opinions):
1. American Sniper (one of Clint Eastwood's best "shots", extraordinary Bradley Cooper, a deserved Oscar for sound editing);
2. The Grand Budapest Hotel (that genius of Wes Anderson strikes again, maybe his masterpiece, 4 deserved technical Oscars);
3. Birdman (without any doubt Iñárritu's best film, full of great ideas, awesome dialogues and with an amazing cast);
4. The Theory of Everything (2 marvellous characters/actors, a well adapted script and a wonderful music, still glad Redmayne won an Oscar);
5. Boyhood (more an experience than a movie, but what a great experience, deserved the award won by Patricia Arquette, Linklater should have won for best director);
6. Selma (an extraordinary and underrated true story with a memorable Martin Luther King played by David Oyelowo and one of the best original songs of these past editions, "Glory");
7. Whiplash (maybe the breakthrough film of the year, with amazing groove, terrifying drama, a fenomenal Miles Teller and a memorable J. K. Simmons more vile than ever, for me not a masterpiece, but I think I should watch it again to feel it much better);
8. The Imitation Game (the 1st time it didn't get me as I hoped, but the 2nd one it did, another incredible biopic with wonderful actors and a well adapted screenplay rightfully awarded with an Oscar).

I'm just gonna say it:
2014 was the greatest year for film in the 2010s
The presentation of each movie is simple amazing.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inaritu is visionary and trully the top Hollywood director at the moment. In 2016, he became the first director to win back-to-back Oscars for Best Picture (Birdman and The Revenant)) since 1950, 66 years prior.
He won back to back best Director. The Revenant didn’t win best picture ( even though it should have)
Boyhood: moving, well- directed, great performance by Arquette, incredible using of a song (Hero), stunning journey through childhood.
Birdman: powerful, original, greatest directing of the last years, amazing ensemble performances (highlighting Norton, Stone, Watts and obviously the spectacular Michael Keaton, great score and stunning cinematography and screenplay
The Grand Budapest Hotel: original, great score, great performance by Fiennes, incredible makeup, hairstyle and costume design and a good screenplay.
Imitation Game: correctly directed, good screenplay, outstanding performance by Cumberbatch and incredibly good score.
Whiplash: tension, amazing performance by Simmons, great directing and a fine editing.
American Sniper: correct performance by Cooper, correctly directed, mythologizing a definitely not-hero person, Bush propaganda and a good sound.
Selma: Haven't watched it.
