They are great for leads but also perfect to blend in for atmospheric elements in music. I use the Hermod+ as sequencer and I ussd a keystep 37 to program/play the notes into the Hermod.
Hi Bertrand, we share te same name. My name is Bertram which is the north european version of Bertrand 😄 I think with your question you mean if I trigger the internal lpg in Plaits and I think I don’t. I’m not 100% sure its been a while since I have recorded this patch. I do use a short envelope coming from my Quadrax module. The DXG reacts different in comparison to other LPG’s but if you work with it, it can create beautiful lpg sounds. Put an envelope in de ctrl input and you can make the sound stronger and pluckier of you put a multiplied singnal of the enveloppe or a gate trigger in the strike input as well. If you do not use an envelope into the ctrl input its best to put the ctrl knob between 10:00 and 14:00. The DXG really shines when you use it in stereo and it had no vactrols. Vactrols are being banned in the EU at the moment so its hard to acquire certain lpg’s. The other absolutely stunning sounding lpg is the natural gate by Rabid Elephant but it is really expensive and its mono. I love the DXG but some people are not happy with. For me it works wonders and I use it in almost every patch and performancs. Good luck im choosing a lpg module!
@@raafmodularwell, Bertram, thank you very much for your detailed feedback ! Indeed you totally understood my question (sorry if I poorly expressed it 😅) I watched a few videos and dig some infos about lpg and yeah the dxg seems pretty interesting especially regarding its stereo outputs and also reacting to dynamic gates … I also own a 0-ctrl so that might be handy. The natural gates seems amazingly sounding but totally not affordable ! I’ll wait a bit before pulling the trigger, and give my bank account some rest 😂 because I recently bought a ciat lonbarde Tetrax … 😬 so let’s be reasonable for a few months … if I can 😂 Cheers 🍻 and if you don’t mind please consider checking out my jams, you might like one or 2 if you put aside the shitty visuals ! 😂 🙏🏽👊🏽
Have you had a chance to try natural gate or ssg for comparison to the dxg? Im trying to get a lpg and deciding whether to preorder natural gate although i pretty much am all stereo now. Just not sure how snappy natural gate it
I have both, the NG blows the DxG away.. I actually have a pre-order for a second NG! it is worth it if you can only choose one. Honestly, the DxG is a little underwhelming compared to the NG. I just use my NG in stereo with both sides. Just mult the gate to use two different gates for more variation!
Hi Joey, I did work with the NG a while ago, not with my own system but I did get a clear view of what it can do. I'm not going to lie the Natural Gate sounds truly amazing. It's gorgeous. It's also really expensive. I don't think NG blows the DXG out of the water. In my view the DXG can achieve 80 to 90% of what the NG does. Also, DXG has two stereo channels and NG is mono. You can work around that but that still gives you one stereo channel instead of two. SSG is like a lpg on steroids. It can do more that what a traditional lpg does. Some people like that. I wanted a more traditional LPG. So my advise would be: If the price and long waiting times are not a problem for you and you don't mind your channels to be mono go for the NG. It truly sounds like a dream. If you think two stereo channels are important and you want an excellent sounding lpg with a good price go for DXG. If you want to experiment with a LPG and create unconventional sounds go for the SSG. Good luck!
@@raafmodular You said the NG sounded like a dream.. kinda blows the DxG out of the water? ha. Anyhow, I do think the DxG is a bit disappointing (and the summing of all channels is too!) but can do "basic" LPG sounds IMHO. I also am finding the lack of control over the strike input a bit hard to deal with. Lack of control over the decay where the NG really shines there with so much more control. But the sound of them all is all subjective right? I do think the NG is worth saving for if you can only buy one! it really wins the "no vactrols" war. I almost forget the NG has no vactrols, where the DxG I feel underwhelmed and miss the vactrols a lot.
@@raafmodular thanks for the honest review. Thats where im stuck between natural gate and paying outrageous price for it or going with ssg which i think sounds almost just as good but i notice a slight increase in resonance where the natural gates roundness helps with making those snappy boing sounds thats i love. Basically rings module with every sound all day. I love stereo but i have not seen enough demos on the dxg to showcase its potential. My rack is full of make noise modules. Love them but optomix was not the chefs kiss to me so not sure what dxg can do although the stereo spread i have heard from it is friggin amazing.
@@joeymc5272 you are welcome! I’m currently working on a patch and video that really displays the (amazing) stereo spreads the DXG can make btw. Hope to release it this week!
@@raafmodular That would be the Natural Gate (no vactrols) from Rabid Elephant, followed by LxD, Optomix and the Buchla TipTop 292T. Honestly, DXG is not in the list. The NG changes it sound depending on pitch and how fast you strike it. It doesn't get any more natural. Groeten uit Den Haag, trouwens!
@@CinematicLaboratory Ah I heard more people not being super positive about the DXG. Its my first lpg module so I have no real comparison. Natural Gate is super expensive but I love the sounds coming from it. Is the lxd still being sold? Antway, Den Haag! Wat leuk 😄
@@raafmodular I am super positive about the DXG and makenoise did an excellent job. However, I think it's not yet on par with their vactrol LPG's and it can also be something like 'unable to let go' and 'in the old days everything was better'. Your video clearly proves the DXG sounds great :). LXd is officially still in production, but due to the vactrol ban I don't expect it to come to the EU. If you ever find one, don't hesitate to get it. However, it's the cheapest LPG they have, I paid about 100 euro for it when it was still in stock at Midi Amsterdam a few years ago. I've seen it listed for 600 euro on Reverb which is ridiculous. In that case, DXG is more than fine. And stereo.
peaceful modular sounds - great!
Thank you!
Delicious, masterfully crafted… low pass gate sound is the door to sonic heaven.
Thank you for your kind words!
Pure rhythmic bliss !
Thank you so much!
COMPLETELY wonderful! I love your Mutable collection 😍
Thank you! I love mutable instruments so much. Something in the interface, design and sounds just really strikes a chord with me.
@@raafmodular Agreed. Such a shame we'll see no more.. 😯
lovely
Thank you! Btw I love your video’s, they really helped me out when I started with modular 😄
Nicely done
Thank you!
sooooo gooood

sounds really sweet ❤️
Thank you!
Mooi weer, muzikaal en smaakvol❤
Dank je wel Roger!
Yes, and I always have the urge to turn them up more in the mix.

very cool ! i'm really considering a LPG and DXG especially. Question if i may : do you also trigger plaits, or only DXG in this patch ?
Cheers

I always say when you don't have a LPG you have too many VCA's.
