Geniusly simple! Im always seeing cool containers at thrift stores and being like man, i wish it had a hole in it... Finally decided to look up if I could drill with just my handheld drill and found this video. Gonna go to the hardware store for the bits today! thank you!
I did it!! Bought the drill, the drill bits and a few pots from the .99 store and voila!! It took practice but I felt like a pro by the 3rd one. Thanks, Carmen, for the tutorial.
This is awesome! Thank you so much!! Just drilled into my first non-planter thing! A beautiful eggplant colored baking dish. Some extra tips for beginners: 1) use your body weight to hold the drill in place while drilling 2) put a thumb over the non-circulating part of the drill and other fingers on the material you are drilling to further stabilize it 3) drill boldly! I was really nervous that I was gonna hurt myself or break the dish at first. I told that voice to hush and kept the drill going stronger and stronger. Then plop! Out the holes popped and in will go my plants!
Thanks Carmen, I am drilling holes in 3 pots tomorrow and had thoughts about doing it wrong and breaking the pot. Now I know to drill boldly! Thanks for your helpful comment. 🪴
Thank you for this video. Very well demonstrated and explained. I have a beautiful ceramic pot that needs a hole drilled into it and I did not know where to start or how to do it. Now I do! Very helpful!
Thank you so much I am a middle aged woman living alone now so was so nervous to do this I have a drill and all kinds of drill bits so now watching your video I am going to try this 😊🌺🌸🌷
My goodness, gracious! You make it so simple. Now, I want to do this to all my containers that do not have any drainage. Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it.
This will help save money. I keep needing to propigate my indoor plants. Then when rooted I need a pot. It can get spendy! So thanks for helping me get brave to do this as well! I love your videos!
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I created extra holes in a few of my ceramic pots this past Sunday. It already had one hole in the center; however, I prefer several holes in my planter pots. Since I'm doing this, I'm not restricted to pots that have holes since. Adding extra holes to the rest of my planter pots will be on my "to do" list later this week.
My wife has me drill holes in her pots. I've done glass too their just as easy but you have to go alittle bit slower. Really easy with these drill bits.
Carmen, I just recently found your channel and am enjoying all of your videos. I also have been drilling holes in pots for use with my plants. I was hesitant at first but after practicing on various materials, I have since made many holes! I did also try glass...no big deal. I love that you are are sharing your plants with your audience.
Carmen I can’t thank you enough, I had Been using other drill bits and a similar method that just didn’t quite work. Your video was very helpful and works great. Thank you.
I have to hand it to Google. I just typed in what I needed, and found you! My son works at a hardware store, so I feel petty confidant that I'll get the right kind of drill bits. Your recommendation of tools and careful demonstration of technique is SO appreciated. I have 5 or so pots, so here goes!
I´m not an ceramics expert but I had a flower pot made of white clay or something with glass layer. My cheap drills for stone made a good job! So diamant is over kill in my point of view!
Thank you, I am going to try this method and have purchased the drill and bits on Amazon. Can't wait as I have some vintage pots I need drainage holes!
They say when drilling glass place a piece of tape ( masking works) on the bottom. This helps to prevent the glass from cracking. Love the pots very cute. tfs ❤️
Great tutorial.. finally got my drill & bits.. did 3 pots.. 1 ok & 2 with cracks.. needs more practice .. happy that I’ll have nice pots soon for my new bought succulents.. thanks for sharing .. more blessings to you 💕💕💕
A quick way to put the bit in and tighten it is to hold drill on an angle, hold the piece that tightens and pull the trigger slowly (till you get the hang of it) and it will tighten. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you for this! I got several ceramic pots and they're beautiful. Although most of them have a single hole on each of them, I still feel they're not enough. I feel like adding more little wholes just to improve its draining capabilities. I haven't used them for a while since some of my plants on it just suffered some root rot and I don't want to put my ceramic pots into waste.
Thank you! I bought the diamond drill bits but afraid to do it, you made it so easy for me to follow. Will do it next week after I finish outdoor planting. Thank you I appreciate your vlog.👍❤👍
Hi Carmen.. you just made my day.. you made it look so easy.. so glad I found your channel.. got my drill bits & now need to buy the drill.. excellent tutorial.
Been skeptical to do it cuz scared will break.. I tried the nail method & broke a lot. so sad.. plan to get handyman to do it.. but with your excellent showing video I’ll be doing it myself.. 💕💕💕 be safe
I’ve stuck with terra cotta pots that have the holes already but I’ve seen so many cute ceramic pots with out holes so I’ll be doing this for sure 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 great video! I subscribed 😊
Great tutorial! After drilling the hole, do you recommend coating the hole with any type of sealant or something to prevent water that enters pot from turning milky and mixing with the unsealed exposed ceramic?
Thank you for this video. I think I will be less afraid to try it now. I would like to drill a hole in an Urban Jungle terracotta cache pot, but it has a thick rim at the bottom.
You can practice on some old coffee mugs if you're unsure. I know what type of Urban Jungle pot you're talking about. It is terra cotta so it should be fine. It will just take a little longer because it's thicker. Take your time with it and apply even pressure, not to hard. Good luck!
Thank you! It looks so easy! My hubby helped me with drilling the holes. I can’t say it was easy, but not so bad, it totally stressed me out though, not sure why.😂
oooo! Thank you for showing this. I've been meaning to try it but have been scared to do it. I also thought the drill bits were kind of expensive but the ones you mentioned seemed fine. I'm going to go shop now and get my drilling on!😊Stay safe and healthy Carmen!
Thanks Carmen, i feel confident i can drill my holes tomorrow. Is it ok to use a drill with a plug in cord? Can i drill with water and not get shocked?
Great tutorial. Always a pleasure to hear your soothing voice. Why did you go for the smaller bit on the ceramic? I did one like that a while ago and everything I put in that pot died(dead plant & moist soil). The soil always stayed too moist and didn't drain enough causing root rot.😕 Now only my agleonema's and arrowhead's use ceramic, everything else in terracotta.
I only selected that size because of the size of the pot. I didn't want too big of a hole . I am more careful watering ceramic pots. I also have all my Aglaonemas in ceramic. Thanks so much for watching Tonya!
covering the hole site with strong tape will help prevent cracking and wandering
On the inside and outside?
Your voice is so calm and healing 🙏. Very nice content 🙏🙏
I had purchased from bits off Amazon and was getting frustrated and getting still my holes. After watching your video is am drilling like a champ!!
Geniusly simple! Im always seeing cool containers at thrift stores and being like man, i wish it had a hole in it... Finally decided to look up if I could drill with just my handheld drill and found this video. Gonna go to the hardware store for the bits today! thank you!
Good for you! You can also practice on old coffee mugs to get a feel for it. Good luck!
Thank you! This was so perfect and simple. Already drilled 5 pots tonight!
Wonderful! good for you!
I did it!! Bought the drill, the drill bits and a few pots from the .99 store and voila!! It took practice but I felt like a pro by the 3rd one. Thanks, Carmen, for the tutorial.
Great job! I'm so happy for you!
Thank you so much! My grandchildren have painted me some pots, but they have no holes …. Now I can make them work for what I need!
That's great Gloria! Good luck.
This was so helpful! Just drilled holes in four different pots thanks to your tutorial! ❤️
So glad you found it helpful!

Thanks for your video. I have two ceramic pots that I need to drill holes in. I'll head to Home Depot tomorrow to get the diamond drill bits.
Used a regular masonry bit... Worked as well - especially if you keep the soil inside
I could have used this a few months ago when I failed with a glass cup. Thanks for sharing and stay safe☺👍❤.

I've never seen that type of bit. I used the other kind. Yours is better.
