No doubt about it! Videos and teaser of these games (Prototype and infamous) *Dated from 2006-2007 and the final trailers in 2008.... OVER A FUGGING DECADE!*
I think the setting for Infamous 2 was a clever choice, because while Cole does die if he touches water, so too does his enemies. Almost every humanoid enemy dies in one or two shots if they're in water, in fact you don't even have to shoot them, just being near them whilst your both in water kills them. This to me allows for interesting game play, as finding the optimal position and picking your targets when they're vulnerable is fun, at the same time enemies such as the ice conduits are maneuverable, so you need to be quick on your feet to find targets in the water. I'm almost certain Infamous 2 was designed to be played in the hero karma path, as it feels like most levels are designed around getting two good karma abilities. The first would be the ice shield, which heals you when the shield is shot, recharges your electricity, and protects you, meaning more open areas aren't that big of a deal. The second one is the ice launch, which allows you to maneuver around vertically and horizontally a lot faster, allowing you to find vantage points in the terrain quickly. Also, for the specific mission you used as an example, could you not have simply climbed the mansion in the middle and shot down at the enemies below?
A point I probably should have made is that if the game is more enjoyable with Hero karma, that's bad design in and of itself because how is a player supposed to know which karma is the fun one going into it? Also with regards the platforming I'm talking about *constant* repositioning - climbing the building and shooting downwards until everyone's dead is even more boring than running around all over the place.
I'd say the negative karma is made for people who want a completely destructive force. The attacks chain for extra damage and the other abilities you gain from Nix are quite useful. The karma is linked to the approach you want to use and I think the game makes that point very clear. The first choice you're given is to either quietly take the enemies out or cause a massive explosion which will harm innocents. This is the two karmic styles in a nutshell. The positive side is about taking time and using precision while the negative is dealing as much damage as possible.
Blitzes I felt evil karma works just as well, as you can easily rush enemies with your more destructive powers. The mansion fight is made easy as you can quickly eliminate squads of enemies with a rush of grenades as opposed to good karma where you need to pick off each enemies without hitting civilians
Kaeden Ngai-Natsuhara not exactly we need more verticality to the karma system just like we needed more powers in inFAMOUS Second Son they need more gameplay styles
ElPseudocrítico batman Arkham and the infamous series were my favorite games when I was little and saints row 2 and GTA 4 I played those with my dad and my cousin and still play them also I still own all the games I was 5 then and 14 almost 15 now it's kinda sad getting to see those amazing series end but playing them brings back memories
Romulus Numa There is actually a mission near the end of inFAMOUS 2 where there's a storm going on. No rain though, just lightning (which Cole could drain from the sky). Also, in inFAMOUS 2, shallow water doesn't do any damage, so a light rain probably wouldn't kill him.
Ah yes, definitely. I still wish Sucker Punch would've continued from the evil ending like they originally wanted to. I still don't really buy Second Son's whole "the gene mutated" explanation for how conduits still exist.
Yep, but they decided to base the next game off of which ending in the second game got the most PSN trophies, which happened to be the good ending. You can read about it here if you want: www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-03-11-infamous-second-son-interview They start talking about it in the first paragraph under the video.
Sergio Sorgente I'm personally gonna miss inFAMOUS but I wasn't such a huge of Second Son honestly it was fairly lackluster in comparison to previous entries
I understand you're take on how the series evolved, but you only criticized the combat and mission structure. I feel it's a little unjust to criticize the games without looking at the story, sidequests and sandbox elements.
second son has really fun gameplay but a shitty story and poorly made characters just look at eugene hes an insult to gamers, their fanbase and he has arguably the most op power in the series he could litteraly create anything from his imagination like what he shouldve been the one to kill the beast hell he didnt even need the ray sphere, second son has so many plot holes its so obvious they were going make the evil ending of infamous 2 canon the story aside and the poorly made characrters its a really fun game and has really nice graphics even for todays standards
Insomniac solved the 3rd person aiming problem back in 2002. The og Ratchet & Clank had the same issues with their wide fov camera, and aiming while positioning yourself. In Going Commando they improved the auto aim and added strafing which locked the camera in its current direction.
Great analysis, but I do disagree with you in two things: New Orleans is far from a generic US city haha Very far from the average city. As an Architect I travel quite a bit within the US and New Orleans is unique. But in terms of complaints for the video, this is admittedly a nit pick, I just thought it was funny. And I think you missed that inFAMOUS 2 is actually focused on pure speed and "get-gud." The entrapped feeling the game gives is because it's trying to get you to move fast and zip around the enemy. I've platinumed two of the three games so I've spent some serious time on these games. Overall, I still really enjoyed your analysis. I understand why you didn't for time constraints, but I would have loved to have heard a deeper story analysis as well. Even a couple more minutes would have done the job.
JJJ I agree. The first games city felt bleak and boring, desolate for the sake of being dark. The second games city felt more unique as each main area had different terrain, ranging from flood town to the factory area. Infamous 2 felt like it was meant to bridge infamous 1 and second sons gameplay, being in the middle of having calculated movements and intense instant action
Idk it just didn’t feel as good as the first game in terms of moving around the city, more of bad level design and less about the location of the game.
@Stone Hex Thats hardly constructive as he didn't mean it in an architectural sense, did you listen to the video? He goes into detail about how the generic city feel isn't designed with the core traversal mechanic in mind, making it into a bland "city" that doesn't interweave third person shooting and parkour, leaving a muddled experience compared to the first one
@@flameconvoy7424 Actually, inFamous 1 was taking place in a post-apocalyptic world. It does make sense for it to be bleak, though it probably could've looked a bit better especially for 2009.
My favorite game gameplay-wise in the series was Infamous First Light. It felt like every combat ability fed into one another. Melee attacks, the dash ability, rapid fire shooting, sniping, bubble grenades, the floating status effect, weak points, controllable enemies, and power ups...they all felt interconnected during every combat encounter, especially inside the high score arcade mode. And to top it all off, the incredible particle effects made every neon blast feel perfectly juicy
IKR? the only problem is that its soo short so i cant say its my fav infamous game cause once you complete it theres nothing to do infamous 2 had custom made missions so it could be played for hours but the ps4 gen infamous games feel so short
I concur. First Light was so tight and refined. I really appreciate that they made that expansion even though they didn't have to. I have spent so many hours in that combat arena.
This was a really good video man. I remember getting Infamous when i first got my PS3 and loving it. 2 wasn't nearly as good as 1 and Second son was incredible but in short bursts i feel. It's a shame that we don't really see games like this anymore honestly.
It's crazy how much goofier your videos have gotten over time while still talking about the same shit and taking that aspect as seriously as ever. It makes videos like this so much easier to watch than, say, your OG Crash and Ratchet videos.
inFamous Second Son is one of my favorite games on PS4. Gameplay is fun, decisions lead to new paths, and includes unique mechanics. It was the first Third-person Shooter I ever played; I didn't play infamous 2, but I played infamous 1 on PlayStation now. Once I finished the game, I wanted to play another Third-person Shooter. I became interested in Uncharted, having Played the trilogy, 4, and Lost Legacy, as of now. I got infamous First Light this year on sale, and I liked it. The Uncharted franchise is the greatest video game franchise I've ever played, and I would have missed it if I didn't play infamous Second Son.
Fireblade78 lol Uncharted the greatest video game ever? you’ve clearly barely played video games kid. That or you’re some sort of gullible casual gamer.
I loved this game as well. It was one of my first games that I played all the way through on the PS4 and I loved it. Something about the Seattle setting and the feel of the story and the different color palletes of the different powers. I really liked Delsin and I wanted him to succeed. I never played the other ones, so I don't have the knowledge to compare them to 2nd son, but the hate I'm seeing on this thread for it makes me feel a bit sad. I've seen waaaaaaaaaaaayy more boring open worlds in other games that are widely loved and accepted. For me though, something about the design always kept me engaged in doing things; I always felt like I was working towards something. I mainly stuck to the story, but I collected most of the things and I enjoyed it all the way through my 2nd playthrough to see the 'Infamous' ending.
And I felt I was the only person who thought, what inFamous 1 was vastly better than it's sequel. The powers, the level design, the comic book presentation, the story, the soundtrack.....
Mrkindalegal TheBagopaniest the story never made any sense if you go back to the first game, take a look at the raysphere, John, the beast, and Kessler
Anthony Ibanez That's part of the reason why I wanted him to cover them. But also think you were a bit unfair on infamous 2's story it was really good.

Mate, hundred percent got the "PS2" comment. I've been using that word to describe games for a while and wondered if I was the only one. TOP video dude.
Infamous 1 definitely deserves a remaster/remake. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Still my favorite in the series. The Atmosphere of Empire City remains unmatched compared to the rest of the games.
I have yet to play the first Dark Souls, but all the critiques I’ve watched made me feel like that was a happy accident they tried and succeeded in partially recreating in Bloodborne.
Say what you will about Second Son, having smoke, neon, digital AND rock powers all at the same time feels fucking AMAZING. And digital's melee attacks... hoo boy, that's some good stuff.
The storyline never made sense because if Kessler never made the raysphere there would be no beast, but the cause of him creating the raysphere was because of the beast? Makes no sense
Very old post dont care :) Kessler did not invent the Ray-Sphere. Kessler went back in time to speed up the development of the Ray-sphere. So he could give himself powers years earlier, but that also changed time line. so the Beast came sooner. He did not know who the Beast was from what I recall. One should never mess with time lines. Many branches of the time line can happen.
You cheeky boi. Being absent for a bit, hitting us with a surprising series to be reviewed, and then even sneaking in a Hamish snark and Heart-Shaped Box's instrumental towards the end. It's like you knew I watched a Writing on Games video, listened to In Utero and wondered about forgotten 7th gen gems all in just today/yesterday. NovaMindReaderanoo more like
Hey Nova, been about a year since I last chatted with you, but your format has really been refined, and as someone with a little more specific of a slant (talking about specific design principles and the math behind them), I legitimately can enjoy every one of your videos, and take knowledge away from it I didn't know how to parse on a broad scale. I played infamous 2 as well, and I really didn't dig it at all, but beyond the transparent gaminess of it (ps2ness as you described it perfectly) I couldn't fully explain that particular game until I watched this and heard you say EXACTLY what I'd been thinking. Anyways, just wanted to let you know you are doing a phenomenal job. I should have a new video out soon myself, so hopefully we'll bump into each other on /videogameanalysis some day soon.
I mean. Good karma in infamous 2 gave you the ice pillar ability which allowed you to zip around and fight the way it was intended. When you unlock that ability. Options open up. Launch to one side throw some rockets. Bounce out against use a bolt stream as you zoom through the air. I played evil first and though that firebird strike was cool but man is ice pillar so much better. Evil=strong attacks low mobility. Good=weaker attacks high mobility I don’t know that’s my take on this issue that you brought up
I see your points, but Infamous 2 will still always be my favorite. I remember getting frustrated with Infamous 1 always randomly getting peppered by bullets from all different directions while simply running around, and as stated by you as well I really am jaded/tired by the color pallet and graphics/looks of the first game. Between Cole’s new voice actor, his and Zeke’s relationship being much better than in the first game, the characters as a whole felt much more enjoyable. As of writing this comment, I literally just finished replaying Second Son for the first time in years today, and it really put something into perspective for me; the Conduit team. Infamous 2 nailed it. You had Cole, the character you got to alter the morality of, make the choices for, but you had Kuo, the primarily sensible, moral one, typically leaning you towards good karma, then Nix, the more impulsive, violent one typically leaning towards evil Karma, then you had the non-powered, mainly middle of the road Zeke, while he did typically lean towards good karma, he did also partake in suggesting evil choices (especially more in the first game). Second Son was really great, and I love it, but you barely interact with Fetch and Eugene aside from the two or three missions where you investigate/try to capture them, learn your new power then do a good/bad karma mission with them. And there’s really not much weighing on your choice to corrupt them. “Oh no, people hate/are afraid of bio-terrorists, better train Fetch to murder them all relentlessly. Oh no, Eugene was bullied? Let’s murder all bullies” I feel the morality system was really too black and white and gave no real incentive to be evil. They really could’ve delved more into the political struggle between modern day people and the Conduits, almost as a social commentary on racism. They kinda did I guess? But it was really shallow. I’m not saying the first two games are perfect in that regard, but I will say the final choice in Infamous 2 was really one of the hardest to make when you take all the info the characters have into account. Regardless, even if we didn’t get a new Infamous game, I would love to see a new collection of the Infamous series remastered for the PS5 release. Side note, I like Sucker Punch, but... instead of a new Infamous or re-release, I’m not excited for Ghost of Tsushima all that much honestly
Personally, Infamous 2 was my favorite in the series, although I loved the first as well. I liked Second Son, but it definitely ended up being my least favorite. In the first two games, I always felt as if there was something to do, and I would always have a blast doing it thanks to the way the movement and combat mechanics would work. There were always shards to collect, enemies to fight, random encounters to deal with, or fun side missions to complete. I recall Second Son severely lacking in the side mission department, and I also don't recall encountering much in the way of enemies outside of their strongholds. My other issues with Second Son really just have to do with the world and powers from a story perspective. The powers presented in the first two games were believable within the context of the world they built. Second Son went a bit overboard with them. Smoke and neon were fine, but the others I had trouble holding onto my suspension of disbelief for. Concrete? How would one absorb that? Paper? That seems like a pretty terrible power and, yet again, how would one absorb that? Video? That doesn't have a physical existence; it's abstract. It can't be absorbed let alone manifested into physical form. I understand that this is a fictional universe, but when that universe starts to stray from its own established rules, it breaks suspension of disbelief.
I liked that you've added more of your humour into these analysis vids. None of it felt forced, which is really hard to pull off. Seriously your content gets better with every video. Good stuff!
I think it's also worth pointing out that 1. The lightning in inFAMOUS 1 and 2 was incredible to play around with (especially as a kid) because of the way it interacted with the world and the way it looked and 2. Somehow, both endings for inFAMOUS 2 were equally heartbreaking
One thing I loved about Infamous 2 was its characters. While the first game was, well, everything you explained, seconds Sins and the first game could never top the character development that Infamous 2 had. Each character had grew as a character, rivalries started , friendships broken, and funny characters kept me playing.
I think your assessment of infamous 2 was way off. New Marais makes so much more sense as a setting. First, the buildings were generally shorter than the skyscrapers of Empire City. Cole's movement is much more grounded than in a game like Prototype. He can't just walk straight up walls, he has to climb. After having run through infamous again last week, I can say that climbing buildings in infamous gets really tedious, especially without the additional mobility-oriented powers introduced in the other two games. In infamous 2, the buildings are mostly shorter, so they feel like less of a slog to climb. Infamous 2 also had better placement of power lines, and introduced the electric poles, which made climbing much more fluid. Even more, infamous 2 introduced some powers that helped with mobility, and enhanced the thrusters a bit to get you some more lift and distance. Second, all the waterlogged areas of New Marais add another element (literally) to the game. There's always more tension in those areas because you have to be much more mindful of where you're jumping around. There's also more tension because those areas--the swamps specifically--are generally low on electricity, so you have to budget the use of your powers. You complain that movement and combat weren't mixed well in infamous 2, but the examples I've given prove otherwise. You also mention that it's an issue how enemies in infamous 2 are more spread out. Well... I don't really know what to tell you. I don't recall that giving me any issues when I played the game. I hate the "git gud" crowd, but that sounds like an individual issue. It's on you to find a good position and good cover to win the battles, or to stay on the move and drain a lot of electricity. Both are strategies, and neither is inherently better. I think it's a little ridiculous that the complaint is essentially "I don't like how the enemies don't line up in one direction to get shot." If anything, the bigger spread of enemies gives you more reason to make use of your mobility during combat.
MAN I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR AN ANALYSIS OF THE INFAMOUS SERIES. TAKE YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME, EFFORT AND SWET FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I got this game with my purchase of a PS3 Slim, alongside with Uncharted 2.
inFamous 2 came with my first PS3 when I bought it in 2012 on my 3 weeks worth of saving up allowance. It was my first impression on how the PS3 worked and how well an 11 year old can learn and adapt to playing a more advance video game than Wii Sports. I was thoroughly impressed at the time for what it's worth. I've since moved onto games like The Last of Us and Skyrim, but I still return to inFamous from time to time when I feel like nostalgic. Glad you're feeling better!
I have to disagree with you on what you said about Infamous 2's map, I always found it was such a better map in comparison to empire city, maybe not thematically, I do think it was less interesting, but I always felt it worked much more in tandem with Coles awkward climbing mechanics. New Marias had smaller buildings and a lot of ease of access ways of traversing the land (more ziplines, electric poles on the sid eof buildings) making exploring and finding collectibles feel much less like a drag than it did in the first game what with its large sky scrapers and trash heaps
Been replaying these games just now and InFamous 1 is still amazing. You're right about the Karma System though. However, I've found a way to make evil karma work narratively. I've been playing the whole game through with good karma, but now after xxx died (you know who I mean) and you get a chance to use the Ray Sphere again, I use it. Bam immediate evil karma. Makes more sense that Cole gets black/red lighting and that his face gets messed up after using that again. The "evil" story for InFamous 2 is better than the good one anyway, so this is a good way to lead into Infamous 2. Spoilers below: The good ending, you use the big Mcguffin they introduced in this game and tadaaa world saved. The evil ending though, Cole realises the only way to assuredly save even a portion of humanity from the plague is to become the Beast, the very thing Kessler groomed him to defeat. He steps up. Now if that isn't amazing dramatic irony I don't knoe what is. I don't think it's outright evil either seeing as the Ray Sphere mcguffin is only allegedly able to cure the plague whilst it is known to kill Conduits. Not to mention the good ending boss fight is a push over and the evil ending boss fight is literally the hardest, most emotional press of the R1 button I've ever had to do.
late but i disagree i think the opposite way is the way its intended to be during infamous 1 you go evil as usual but once trish dies you change your ways and start doing good deeds then when u get to the Ray sphere you destroy it because then cole will say something along the lines of “i realized this isn’t about me about what i want its about keeping this city safe and once your dead no one will ever threaten it again” its him realizing that every evil thing he did wasn’t necessary then you play into infamous 2 with good karma because people will still call u the demon of empire city since the short time that u decided to change and become a hero no one really noticed as opposed to when you were evil the majority of the game so in infamous 2 once you do the good ending zeke will say “who knew that the demon of empire city would become the patriot saint of new marais” then the story would make even more sense
Well, some things I definitely remember I appreciated about inFAMOUS 2 were that it feels a lot more comicbooky (largely with its emphasis on monster enemies), more stylish visuals, and the fact that they finally got rid of those slow and boring side quests from the first game where you shimmy around the outside of a building as you try to look for a bunch of devices and shock them. That was used WAAAAAAAAAAY too much in the first inFAMOUS. Plus, being able to gain an additional "element" to your powers is a nice boost of variety.
My favorite game in the series is infamous 2 because of the ending alone. I love how they hinted at Cole’s revival after he died in the good ending and how the companions roles were swapped at the end showing their true morals.
Simon Svec I loved that too honestly they could've used the hint of him being alive and have him come back in the third game I would have loved seeing Cole come back but instead we got delson
gameplay wise, I think I like second son the most. Story-wise, having an end to Cole's journey in such a manner had me putting it up on my list of favorite video game endings. I can understand why people's experiences have been colored by time.
Great video, got me real nostalgic. This used to be one of my top 10 game series. Also, love that you out Ratattat in the background as the music! But, I also replayed the 1st one recently, but its age really got to me. The issue was it wasn't retro enough to be ignored but not modern enough to be engaging. Hard to explain, but it kind of felt like a ps3 game with all the problems of a ps2 game. Unlike a game like Uharted 2 which is still a blast to play now (even the original ps3 version). Maybe I'll give the sequel another go. But it was awesome when it came out and a unique idea, which doesn't happen a lot. And I loved the video!
Great critique. And one of my thought was it is not fair to compare it to uncharted 2 in terms of graphics. This being an open world the complete graphical architecture is different in terms of how it is using PS3 hardware. You can see some of the open world games that came in that time, like prototype 2, saboteur and even GTA 4 which are almost similar in terms of graphical fidelity.
A testament to how good Infamous 2 is that I never realized it was supposed to be shooter, and so I played it like a beat em up, with ocassional power uses :v
Finally someone talks about these games, I love video essays but no one ever touches these games. Also inFamous was the first PS3 game I played as well
Maaaan, the fact you went full evil in all the footage pained me. I always gotta go full hero in games with morality. I just physically cannot do bad options.
Pretty good video dude. I don't share your love to the franchise but your perspective was interesting. It's pronounced "soo-shi-ma". The T is silent. When you say "I can't get the T in there", that's the correct way to say it.
Peace Master Japanese is weird in that the t is *very* subtle and normally people who don’t natively speak it don’t hear it or bother pronouncing it. When I took Japanese in high school my teacher kept trying to get me to pronounce the t or at the very least be able to distinguish when he’s saying つ (tsu) or す(su)
My grandma and auntie bought me a PS3 and infamous 1 and 2. Haven’t watched the vidoe yet but I’m prepared for you to shit on it but let me give my 2 cents. I love these games and I think I always will. I played these at a time in my life where I got bullied a lot and was for lack of a better word an outcast like Cole. Former friends had turned on me and I felt lost. This series especially the second game showed me that someone like me, Cole had the strength to sacrifice himself for thepeople that hated him and Called him a monster. It was exactly what I needed. It helped me to remmeber the kind selfless boy i used to be, and I’ve held onto him sometimes barely until this point. Cole will always have a place in my heart, I love these games
"Enlightening" my butt, he just ripped into the best game of the franchise and called the Karma system, which is basically the main shtick and selling point behind all the infamous games alongside the unique powers you could gain in infamous 2 and second son "MEH" Like bruh, who are you
It was trying to go for realism but the devs simply didn't have the experience to make it look like something beyond uncanny, especially with those animations.
infamous is still one of my favorite games. I don't know why but it just felt so different than any other game i have ever played. infamous 1 was my favorite of the three.
In a crack in time if you have a tools of destruction save you get a discount at weapon vendors and if you have a quest for booty save you get a pirate hat skin.
Eh, I’d disagree with on the combat about infamous 2 there as personally I felt it wanted you to experiment with all the crazy powers you got and definitely rewarded you in how creatively you could find combinations of abilities. I remember switching my different types of shots, blasts, rockets, and grenades on the fly just see the wild shit I could come up with. And as for the multiple play through thing I didn’t mind it at all and in fact gave me a good incentive to revisit a game I loved on the first time round (especially infamous 2) just to see the changes in story and new powers, it never felt like a cheap gimmick at all. I really enjoyed the little touches as well depending on your alignment like Cole’s idle stance and animations. Also come on man, I wished you talked about the story and characters even if just for a little bit because I personally believe that’s adds to people’s enjoyment of this series and really got me to care about the shit I was doing. It has to be said that the fact both evil and good endings of infamous 2 were both emotionally impactful speaks volumes to how much the game respected your decisions no matter the alignment you went with. Overall, I enjoyed your analysis, even if I do think your opinions are fucking wrong, but I guess that’s why their called opinions.
Nice analysis. Interesting that I've never watched a video about infamous, which is my favourite ps3 exclusive, but this somehow got recommended to me... thanks.
I have the exact same thoughts, as you. I've dived into the inFamous series right after playing the Uncharted trilogy for PS3 (I found those boring for most of the time, just like you did) and... Dang, I was not expecting to have that much fun in a video game, that's not on PS2. The gameplay was fun, the movement was so snappy and responsive. I LOVED IT. I didn't care for the graphics at all. After getting the platinum in the 1st one, I moved on to the sequel and still had a lot of fun with it, but just like you, I found the 1st one to be better. Some missions weren't that enjoyable as in IF1. I got the plat and went to 100% the DLC, which was pure fun as well, a nice little addition with great ideas. Then, it was time for IF3 aka the Second Son and... I once again had a blast with it! The stories in both games were both fun to experience. They weren't any masterpiece stories and I'm perfectly fine with it. I prefer the game to be solid in game design, rather than have a simple gameplay. And yep, these guys have the balls to make what they want without imitating ND and I love it. I'm gonna play Horizon: Zero Dawn soon, as I picked it up for free from PS Store at the April giveaway. I'm a little bit worried it's gonna be another interactive movie of a game. I hope it to prove me wrong.
Damn you really hit the nail on the head with this one. I have many reasons why I like inFamous 1 better than 2 but I think you shed light on why exactly that is. Something you didnt mention in the video that I have always thought was that inFamous 2 doesnt really do much to expand the power set you have in the first game. In inFamous 1, each power had meaning, and made traversing the environment and fighting enemies in set environment a little easier each time, giving you this sense of growth and this constant thing to look forward to. inFamous 2 really doesnt do much to expand that. I mean its cool there is more customization, but all that it really comes down to is a kind of different bolt, or a kind of different grenade. Even the big selling point of the game, the ice and fire powers, are just pretty much rehashed electrical powers with slightly different effects.
TheZach467 I really dig the story in inFamous 2. But I dont think the story should be an excuse for this. Its interesting they explain it in game, but that doesnt make it good
Griffin Ray not really. Infamous 2 improved on almost every aspect. The graphics and character animations were a lot better (considering the sequel came out only 2 years after the first game). The voice acting was also improved and the cutscenes were a lot more dynamic and interesting and didn't consist of two static character models looking at each other and talking for minutes. The open world felt much more alive and vibrant. The side quests were more varied and the random encounters were better overall. The melee combat was improved and the amp allowed for a more dynamic fighting system with actual combos and stuff. The catalog of powers and power ups was much bigger in the sequel, containing not only all of the ones from the first game but also many new ones. Also the morality system was better realised in infamous 2 with many more choices and completely different Main-Story missions the player could choose depending on the Karma they were going for, which offered a lot of replayability. Not to mention the 2 completely different endings. As for the story, the first game's ending twist puts it just above the sequel for me. Kessler was much more interesting than the beast. Other than that, inFamous 2 was the better game for sure.
just noticed House of Balloons in the background, XO, my brother. Great video as well, the series is hella underrated, and underappreciated by Sony, it should've been a staple after Marvel made superheroes mainstream again, but i guess Sony doesn't like easy money.
Oh gosh that house of balloons transition when talking about Infamous 2. You da man. I was sure gonna subscribe after your mom joke, but this shit is just next level. Edit: yeah this whole video’s soundtrack is definitely xo fam
Personally I feel like the new powers received throughout the infamous 2 made alterations to the game enough not to need something new every half hour or so because the combat always felt like it was giving you something new to mess about with for a while which I do, take the lightning tether for example completely alters gameplay in a way where platforming becomes a lot easier And it's also quite a cop out to critique a game purley on level design when all three offer so much more
You don't get to pretend the T in Tsushima is silent just because we don't have the 'tsu' sound in English.
Wait SUS?
„Most 2007 Game of 2009“
That is by far the best way to describe graphics being outdated. Amazing video!
it does!
As much as I like the first one, yeah. It kinda reminds me of Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction(which also came out in 2007).
No doubt about it! Videos and teaser of these games (Prototype and infamous) *Dated from 2006-2007 and the final trailers in 2008.... OVER A FUGGING DECADE!*
@@superlombax1561 hey actually it makes sense, check out inFamous e3 2007 trailer, the character looks more cartoonish
I mean I kinda like it. It’s gives it a more Early PS3 and Xbox 360 vibe
inFAMOUS remastered
As much as i want one i dont think there will be one
Sergio Sorgente is swear I’m trying to get a PS3 just to play infamous 2, I know u can play it with PS now but I’m not tryna pay like every month
Z Abdul it’s a great idea the first 2 games are the main reason I haven’t sold my ps3
I'd like that since I never got the chance to play the original. Buttttt ya never gonna happen
Lesteezo I’m gonna get a ps3 and play it to get the platinum trophy
Eddie G-D I'm still trying to figure out a sequel that I'm coming up with using a few ideas of my own a few other people and stuff
My mom actually runs at 1440p. How dare you.
I remember inFAMOUS 2 was the only sandbox game that was actually fun when I was a kid.
ElPseudocrítico batman Arkham and the infamous series were my favorite games when I was little and saints row 2 and GTA 4 I played those with my dad and my cousin and still play them also I still own all the games I was 5 then and 14 almost 15 now it's kinda sad getting to see those amazing series end but playing them brings back memories
the_other_guy 2134 I thought that Arkham came put two years ago
That was Arkham Knight I think. Arkam Asylum, Arkam City and Arkam Origins came out before.
Prototype was the funnest imo
Yeah I’m replaying it right now
If Cole can't touch water without dying does that mean he never bathes?
He takes sponge baths.
Bætnet well he did. Before he died
Just imagine how he would handle rain
Romulus Numa
There is actually a mission near the end of inFAMOUS 2 where there's a storm going on. No rain though, just lightning (which Cole could drain from the sky).
Also, in inFAMOUS 2, shallow water doesn't do any damage, so a light rain probably wouldn't kill him.
Cody Spradlin he could bathe in pure (distilled) water no problem i think
I like Infamous 2's morality choices narratively because it completely changes the ending, unlike in Infamous 1 or Second Son.
Second Son has two different endings though.
It's not as drastic as Infamous 2 though. infamous 2's ending is entirely different, like the whole final mission.
Ah yes, definitely.
I still wish Sucker Punch would've continued from the evil ending like they originally wanted to. I still don't really buy Second Son's whole "the gene mutated" explanation for how conduits still exist.
The were originally planning on continuing from the evil ending?
Yep, but they decided to base the next game off of which ending in the second game got the most PSN trophies, which happened to be the good ending.
You can read about it here if you want:
www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-03-11-infamous-second-son-interview
They start talking about it in the first paragraph under the video.
Everyone is so excited about Ghost of Tsushima...I am missing inFAMOUS
Sergio Sorgente I'm personally gonna miss inFAMOUS but I wasn't such a huge of Second Son honestly it was fairly lackluster in comparison to previous entries
@GrabberBythePuss that's just stupid thinking
@@insanenero2922 you mean smart thinking
I understand you're take on how the series evolved, but you only criticized the combat and mission structure. I feel it's a little unjust to criticize the games without looking at the story, sidequests and sandbox elements.
He doesn't really look at the story too much.
second son has really fun gameplay but a shitty story and poorly made characters just look at eugene hes an insult to gamers, their fanbase and he has arguably the most op power in the series he could litteraly create anything from his imagination like what he shouldve been the one to kill the beast hell he didnt even need the ray sphere, second son has so many plot holes its so obvious they were going make the evil ending of infamous 2 canon the story aside and the poorly made characrters its a really fun game and has really nice graphics even for todays standards

Personally I love how infamous 1 looks. It’s art style is so Gridy and perfect for the tone of the game.
Insomniac solved the 3rd person aiming problem back in 2002. The og Ratchet & Clank had the same issues with their wide fov camera, and aiming while positioning yourself. In Going Commando they improved the auto aim and added strafing which locked the camera in its current direction.
“Badass and insane and totally self confident in themselves.”
You know, Novcanoo, the Yakuza games aren’t that difficult to find. :)
A very good point. Could have specified I meant Western games a bit more than I did.
Novacanoo Western games still do that but only in the indie sections.
The only major Weatern dev I can think of that hasn’t totally lost it’s philosophy is Rockstar games but even they’ve seen better days imo.
J Man They worship at the shrine of Microtransactions now.
Great analysis, but I do disagree with you in two things:
New Orleans is far from a generic US city haha Very far from the average city.
Nathann Latimore “perfectly juicy” 😂😂
IKR? the only problem is that its soo short so i cant say its my fav infamous game cause once you complete it theres nothing to do infamous 2 had custom made missions so it could be played for hours but the ps4 gen infamous games feel so short
I concur. First Light was so tight and refined. I really appreciate that they made that expansion even though they didn't have to. I have spent so many hours in that combat arena.
Yeah I think it is the best
You sound happier in this video Novacanoo. I hope you're doing well!

MML's Commentaries this video essays put me to sleep this was fun though
inFamous Second Son is one of my favorite games on PS4.
Abel Villa I said the greatest franchise I’ve ever played, not the greatest. It’s my opinion.
Fireblade78 It sure is
Abel Villa respect opinions
I'm kind of disappointed that you didn't cover the stories
Mrkindalegal TheBagopaniest the story never made any sense if you go back to the first game, take a look at the raysphere, John, the beast, and Kessler
Anthony Ibanez That's part of the reason why I wanted him to cover them. But also think you were a bit unfair on infamous 2's story it was really good.

Wow, its been ages since Ive heard of inFamous, absolutely loved the first 2 games and still have yet to play through Second Son
The Amazing Doctor second son isn't as good as the first 2 the first one is my favorite memory from when I was little it's special
Infamous 1 definitely deserves a remaster/remake. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Still my favorite in the series. The Atmosphere of Empire City remains unmatched compared to the rest of the games.
InFamous 1&2 were fun games that felt like playing a comic book. Also InFamous 2 had a killer soundtrack that fit New Orleans so well.
"Level design doesn't typically get worse over the course of a series made by all the same people" FromSoftware would like to have a word.
I have yet to play the first Dark Souls, but all the critiques I’ve watched made me feel like that was a happy accident they tried and succeeded in partially recreating in Bloodborne.
Should be a nice /comfy/ watch on this warm ass sunday evening, glad you've uploaded again.
Very old post dont care :)
Kessler did not invent the Ray-Sphere. Kessler went back in time to speed up the development of the Ray-sphere. So he could give himself powers years earlier, but that also changed time line. so the Beast came sooner. He did not know who the Beast was from what I recall. One should never mess with time lines. Many branches of the time line can happen.
Brilliant intro
It was pretty good
No Name it really was good
Wow! You just reminded why Infamous is the only open world game I like or at very least tolerate.

Good=weaker attacks high mobility
I don’t know that’s my take on this issue that you brought up
I see your points, but Infamous 2 will still always be my favorite.
Let’s murder all bullies”
I feel the morality system was really too black and white and gave no real incentive to be evil.
My word you have grown so comfortable it is delightful.
In my opinion, I think second son was more meant to play as a melee game during most levels
I liked that you've added more of your humour into these analysis vids. None of it felt forced, which is really hard to pull off.
Seriously your content gets better with every video. Good stuff!
You have great taste with HOB instrumental in background🤙🏽
Dude I love you so much for using Danger music at the start of this video, he's supremely underrated/not as well known as he deserves haha

I can't help but point out the Weeknd House of Glass instrumental in the background. Nice touch
Damn I was like 10 when infamous 1 came out...crazy
still a pretty good game
Same
I think it's also worth pointing out that 1.
One of my favorite video game franchises ever. My favorite is definitely the first.
Infamous second son is the hero we didnt want
I can tell you were really energized about putting electricity puns into the video.
I approve.
I have to disagree with you on what you said about Infamous 2's map, I always found it was such a better map in comparison to empire city, maybe not thematically, I do think it was less interesting, but I always felt it worked much more in tandem with Coles awkward climbing mechanics. New Marias had smaller buildings and a lot of ease of access ways of traversing the land (more ziplines, electric poles on the sid eof buildings) making exploring and finding collectibles feel much less like a drag than it did in the first game what with its large sky scrapers and trash heaps
also thank you for taking the time to critique my favorite franchise
Been replaying these games just now and InFamous 1 is still amazing.
You're right about the Karma System though.
However, I've found a way to make evil karma work narratively.
I've been playing the whole game through with good karma, but now after xxx died (you know who I mean) and you get a chance to use the Ray Sphere again, I use it.
Bam immediate evil karma. Makes more sense that Cole gets black/red lighting and that his face gets messed up after using that again.
The "evil" story for InFamous 2 is better than the good one anyway, so this is a good way to lead into Infamous 2.
Spoilers below:
The good ending, you use the big Mcguffin they introduced in this game and tadaaa world saved.
This guy gets it. In my opinion at least.
late but i disagree i think the opposite way is the way its intended to be
during infamous 1 you go evil as usual but once trish dies you change your ways and start doing good deeds then when u get to the Ray sphere you destroy it because then cole will say something along the lines of “i realized this isn’t about me about what i want its about keeping this city safe and once your dead no one will ever threaten it again” its him realizing that every evil thing he did wasn’t necessary then you play into infamous 2 with good karma because people will still call u the demon of empire city since the short time that u decided to change and become a hero no one really noticed as opposed to when you were evil the majority of the game so in infamous 2 once you do the good ending zeke will say “who knew that the demon of empire city would become the patriot saint of new marais” then the story would make even more sense
Just stumbled across this sweet video about one of my favorite game series. This was a really great review/critique. New sub!
You ain’t slick I heard that House of Balloons instrumental in the background. I love this video btw
I never had a problem with aiming in second son.
"spark of creativity" " thunderous time" good job
I really would buy a ps4 again if a infamous sequel came out
I always thought delsim ran kinda weird. Like that gabe logan syphon filter running
Sure, the distinction does exist, it's just not one worth making for a westerner who isn't actually trying to speak Japanese.
Peace Master Yeah that’s completely fair
The whole morality system is what i most like in inFamous and i kinda wanted more games with morality systems, but of course with more complexity
Any plans on covering other third-person "parkour" franchises such as Prototype, Assassin's Creed etc.?
Fake Name *cough*The Saboteur*cough*... :(
Fake Name
Prototype is still king, absolutely no question.
Fucking love the first Prototype game!
Matthew Luevanos Absolutely loved the saboteur, unfortunately pandemic studios shut down, so we'll never get a sequel
i just have this feeling that a thief/dishonored video from you would be really good
My grandma and auntie bought me a PS3 and infamous 1 and 2.
"Enlightening" my butt, he just ripped into the best game of the franchise and called the Karma system, which is basically the main shtick and selling point behind all the infamous games alongside the unique powers you could gain in infamous 2 and second son "MEH"
Like bruh, who are you
Only the first infamous had a cartoony art style
It was trying to go for realism but the devs simply didn't have the experience to make it look like something beyond uncanny, especially with those animations.
infamous is still one of my favorite games. I don't know why but it just felt so different than any other game i have ever played. infamous 1 was my favorite of the three.
You sound so pissed off but analytical. I think I’m in love.
The inFamous series is my favorite game series of all time.
I do NOT remember them running so choppy, but i guess that's just what growing up on them does (Second Son excluded)
Lmao the music you used for this video is fire, I couldn’t concentrate because of it 😭
In a crack in time if you have a tools of destruction save you get a discount at weapon vendors and if you have a quest for booty save you get a pirate hat skin.
Its interesting they explain it in game, but that doesnt make it good
Wait, do people think inFamous 2 is better than inFamous? I'm sorry they are sorely mistaken.
The first inFAMOUS was the first game I ever played on PS3.
It's also my favorite game.
Personally I feel like the new powers received throughout the infamous 2 made alterations to the game enough not to need something new every half hour or so because the combat always felt like it was giving you something new to mess about with for a while which I do, take the lightning tether for example completely alters gameplay in a way where platforming becomes a lot easier
And it's also quite a cop out to critique a game purley on level design when all three offer so much more
The muddy graphics in the first game were intentionally pretty sure, they lend to a depressing tone, and a sense that the city has really gone to shit
