My Dad started me off with a rotary shaver lol. I destroyed my face with that thing and then bought myself a Panasonic foil shaver and have been getting perfect shaves for over 20 years with them. I recently got into DE shaving because I remembered my Dad actually had a Gillette adjustable safety razor in his travel bag from the 70's I think? I have to look at it again. I know it's a butterfly razor though. Just a stupid random memory got me into DE shaving lol, now I see why it's kind of addicting. It's actually fun to use them.
@@RobertNES816 yeah there is plenty of dads not doing things right, as far as shaving goes. And it really is a YMMV sort of thing, whats best for one isn’t for another. But i bet beard quality, coarseness, growth would be very similar from dad to son. 🤷🏼♂️
The king c Gillette was my first safety razor I bought only a couple of months back when I decided to try a safety razor. I like mine and I'm glad I started with this as its quite forgiving for a newby. Only been using a safety razor for a couple of months but its made having a shave a nice experience and entered the world of all the wonderful different products for shaving from shaving creams to post shave balms. Love the videos you do it was your and geo fatboys videos that got me interested in trying a safety razor. So keep up the good work. Best regards from the UK 🇬🇧
Same here mate on my first safety razor now and also from the U.K. really impressed with the king C Gillette safety razor so far and channels like this are a godsend. Do you happen to know the best channel for guides on how best to use a safety razor on your head for Nearly bald fuckers like me?
Interesting Sinatra, I have "very" clean 1949 Super Speed with clean case arriving by 11/30. Four weeks ago I bidded and bought an extremely clean Gillette Slim Adjustable G4 1961. I do get BBS shaves with slim. I also have the Rockwell model T which is more aggressive than my Rockwell 6C. No more razors for a while. I play your videos when I shave and it takes my mind off the neuropathy in my toes. I'm 68 and have had neuropathy for ten years which can hurt like hell at times!! I've had a good life for 58 years and now have occasional good days. Things could be worse. Thanks again, Mike
A vintage vs modern showdown shave. Nice comparison. The end result is what matters. For me, it's hard to beat my "modern" Rockwell 6S. That DE razor was the one that ended my search for the perfect shave. I only use my others to reaffirm how great the 6S shaves.
Kinda a disadvantage since the red tip is more aggressive than the mild one. Would’ve been a better comparison if they were the same sharpness. Tho I would always go with my 1962 slim adjustable 😂
Great comparison SL! Funny how the results are so close, think once you've nailed your technique such as you have, you can get similar results with different razors. My favorite vintage to use is a grungy superspeed that shaves like a dream, very mild, great results. Also get great results from my Rex cranked up to 6 so go figure...lol. Have a good week, Cheers
I use the Gillette Heritage daily, I also have the new Gillette razor and 7 other vintage Gillettes. Proraso Red is my go to set. I have some disposable razors left that I used to use, had to shave with the disposable razor last week and man what a difference between the shaves. Safety razor is the best.
I’m on my first safety razor, the king c gilette recent version. Thanks so much for sharing your videos, invaluable advice for newcomers like myself. I was so happy that I didn’t cut myself and because I have a goatee and only have to shave the sides of my face and sideburns this was a no brainer in terms of value for money, £2 U.K. for dollar shave club or Harry’s blades or 5p for a derby extra razor blade bought in a pack of 100?? Had to be done. Now I’m working my way into using the safety razor to shave my bald dome instead of expensive cartridge razors. The derby extra blades I bought came in a lot of plastic but at an excellent price. Economy is more of a driver for me than environmental concerns but, some people are very concerned about plastics and unfortunately the cheapest derby extra blades on Amazon come in little plastic containers of 5 blades. Any advice on head shaving with a mild razor like the king C Gillette would definitely be appreciated as I’m quite worried about trying to do the back of my head and all the different growth patterns near the crown area
This morning started using Cremo Shave Cream Classic in the tube. I really how it has left my face feeling so smooth. When I am able to I will buy different shaving cream too see how they work from me and also different blades.
Sinatra Lennon and Kensurfs got me into wet shaving with the King C. Gillette safety razor instead of cartridges at 17 years old and I am from Romania. Thank you for the awsome content
Newbie here. Current setup is the new KC Gillette with Astra Platinum blades. Works for me. I’ll keep an eye out for a vintage one or two cause of the coolness factor. :) Great videos! Keep it up!!
Great shave, I'm like you when it comes to the vintage stuff, I prefer the modern day stuff, I have a few vintage Gillette razors I hardly use for that very reason.... Have a great week 👍
I bought the King c Gillette and the Gillette heritage kit recently and I love them both. They were my first 2 safety razors ever and I will never go back to carts
My wife bought me a safety razor that was cheap and after a few shaves I was unable to tighten the cap down. I got a cheap Gillette of ebay. I now have the new handle and bed with the vintage cap and a vintage handle and bed with a new cap. Both work great and I still get to tell my with I'm still using the one she got me.
Congratulations on reaching 20,000 subscribers, I remember when I first subscribed you had just over 6,000 so to reach 20,000 is a great achievement, very well done Sinatra.
I just bought a 60s gilette vintage razor on ebay. Waiting for it to come. I have had my first double edged safety razor for over a year now, from a brand called facon, which is sold on amazon. I really have been loving using it! I find with the proper preparation and patience almost all nicks can be avoided, but I still do nick myself once in a while. Wondering how this vintage one will compare. It is the old style (noy butterfly but comes apart in pieces). It is also a mini safety razor, so it has an extra short handle. I find with my current one I always hold it fairly close to the head in any case, so I'm thinking I will like the compactness of this one. Do you go against the grain on the third pass? I have prety sensative skin, and I don't go against the grain at all as I find any time I have tried doing it, it always irritated the hell out of my skin.
Good shave bro. And I know what you mean about watching vids of doing other stuff you like to do. It does instill a certain amount of inspiration. Have a great week.
I own 3 vintage Gillettes and 2 new production Merkurs. I've been using them for 6 years. I decided to jump on the Leaf bandwagon since I have gone bald and DE razors just aren't comfortable on the head. Between my old Gillettes and my new Merkurs one thing I notice is the newer razors have perfect blade alignment every time. Sometimes with the older Gillettes you need to make a small adjustment to get them even.
I started using a safety razor maybe 3 or 4 months ago now and I’m still trying to work out what I’m doing. I have the beard growth that goes in all directions and my neck ends up in major burn. I don’t cut myself often but I am thinking it might just be the razor head. I will be trying a different one soon enough, but watching your videos definitely keeps me wanting to keep it up.
Get yourself an alum block. After you rinse off your shave soap, wet your face with cold water to close the pores and wet the alum block with cold water. Rub it all over your face where you shaved. When I apply alum, follow it up with aftershave and then Nivea sensitive skin aftershave balm, I get no razor burn, ever, and razor burn with the multi blades is why I never shaved until last year. If I miss the alum bar, it’s a gamble. If you’re like me with really coarse beard hair and sensitive skin, you may do better with an aggressive razor, believe it or not. It means fewer passes on the skin while still reducing the beard which equals less irritation. I use a Feather blade loaded in a 1955 Superspeed Red tip just like the one in the video. I go easy on the pressure and don’t rush it and I get great results. But get that alum bar! Any manufacturer will do, just make sure you put it in an airtight case when you’re done and it’ll last you a looooong time. Alum evaporates, so use cold water and keep in a container to keep it around. I use Gentleman Jon brand, comes with its own case, you can get a two pack on Amazon for cheap. It’ll last you years. If you’re getting nicks, get a styptic pencil. There’s the two big aftercare secrets to doing this right. Technique, equipment, aftercare.
hi Steven, how are you doing now, if you don't mind my asking? I have a similar issue with my neck, but i found I typically get those issues if I go for glass like finish, and end up going for more than 3 passes going for those pesky whiskers that I can't see but still feel. Also, I find that I need to be very careful with applying pressure. Near my neck, I try to treat it as if I'm shaving a balloon (very sensitive).
I've got a King C Gillette razor. It's not a bad razor at all. Although at the moment I've been mostly using my Merkur Progress. Gives me a good shave every time. I like my vintage Gillettes too. Just classic razors and they look good too
Take your Rockwell 6S and compare the Feather and Astra Green blades. I prefer the Astra, it doesn't seem to pull as much which I interpret as sharper. As a plus it costs only 1/3 as much as a Feather blade. Maybe I got bad batch of Feather Blades?
Haven't been on UA-cam for a bit, came back and watched this and noticed the big ring is back lol. Green towel, big ring, talking about method shaving. The world is getting back to normal 🤣
