I just picked one up half price for only $15. I gave it a go for the first time on a safety razor. Not the best shave but it did the job for my first try. No cuts either which was nice. I will keep at it and I'm sure I'll get better.
@@georgewashington3012 I did a test on my fair skin (mind you, I'm in my 20s, no wrinkles at all) by dragging this razor (KCG with provided KCG blades) 5+ times over my dry skin and got no razor burns. It's probably not the grain but you using too much pressure. (any more than none at all is how you get a burn). Your hair that you want gone is not on your skin, it's above it, you want to cut the hair in half, not shave off your epidermis, don't press at all.
With the Nivea Gel I usually just apply it to my hand like you did, but the spread it right on your face and it works fine without leaving too much on your hands.
Thanks, I will finally learn how to use a one blade razor at the age of 35 😅 with this exact type because I have only used the disposable Gillette ones and just figured out that this is the cause of ingrown hairs (especially on the body) and tug-and-pull. It will arrive tomorrow, I am already excited and looking forward to try it!
You're absolutely correct about everything, cartridges are some sort of demonic torture device designed to drain your wallet and cut up your face. I bought exactly this handle few weeks ago and it was amazing experience even first time I shaved, no burns, no cuts, not even the questionable way you need to screw the top in while barely avoiding the blade was that big of a problem compared to cartridges being simply unusable to me. Also helps remember to respect the blade, after all if it makes you careful while screwing it in, you won't immediately scrape it hard on your skin.
I bought it a week ago...Today whas the first time i tried it with Palmolive shaving cream..... It was amazing...The best and most comfortable shave i have ever had since i started shaving in 1984..... I will never ever switch back from DE razors....Fantastic....Thanks for your amazing review Imagine being 53 years old and finally found the perfect shave 😁😁😎😎
The King C GIllette - Is just a solid closed comb razor that hits that mid sweet spot - its medium range - its just all round a good decent range three piece that does not break the bank. That is all some people need. No Frills Razor- But banging branding.
Bought one of these and coupled it with a Gillette shaving gel and a Nivea balm (easy to find in Europe), both for sensitive skin. First time shaving with a safety razor, it was a nice experience, very smooth, no razor burn mostly thanks to the sharp razor and fantastic balm. Got 2 small nicks, not gonna lie, when going against the grain but I'll get used to the angle in a week or two I guess. Used a regular cartridge Gillette razor before and for the past 3 years I used a Philips OneBlade, shaving on a dry face. It was decent, getting 80 to 90% of the hair removed but it's been a while since I felt that baby smooth feeling on my face. Overall I'm pleased with the King C Gillette safety razor and I'll stick to it in regards of what I use to shave. Thank you for your videos, very informative for newcommer to the world of safety razors. I do have one question though: what double edged blades do you recommend? I guess all have the same shape and fit multiple brands of safety razors, I have 5 that came with the razor, should I go Wilkinson, Feather, Astra or stick to these King C blades, all are affordable?
I just got one today after getting busted unshaved at work. It’s my first non electric razor and while I don’t like having to shave I did enjoy using it.
The longer you shave with DE razors the more you will enjoy shaving. I have been using them for 20 years and actually look forward to shaving…and I even shave my head now.
I think it's the same head as EJ DE89 and Muhle R89, pretty mild. And it's cheaper than those two. But I'm not a fan of the long handle, I like shorter ones.
Hey Sinatralennon, would love a shoutout! I used to use a safety razor for a while and then got lazy and used a cartridge razor but you have reinvigorated my joy and love for wetshaving, thank you!
The king c gillette is the travel razor I usually bring if I'm flying so if it gets taken away or is misplaced I'm not as sour as I would be if I lost a Rex ambassador or some premium razor but they can pull off some pretty good shaves in my experience. but, I find the stock handle a little to slick for me so I have a bakelite handle on mine. Another thing, do you have a mailing address that I could send some things to you.
Totally agree, great travel razor and as you said no problem if you lose it. Well made with a muhle head, may be a copy but German writing on the paper slip 🤔
I've tried tried the wilkinson sword X treme 3 sensitive and can honestly say there pretty good disposable razor had an extremely close comfortable shave
KCG is available everywhere in the world, mostly in physical stores, in Europe it costs almost 50% less than in the US because of the competition. You can buy Muhle, Golddachs (Timor) and Erbe razors in my local drugstore for as low as 25 Euros and Wilkinson Sword Premium for 15. $30 for KCG would simply not be acceptable. Here people mostly buy wet shaving equipment in physical stores because wet shaving never went away like in the US.
I live in New Orleans, but Mr. B’s Bistro is a bit too fancy for me. There is a dive bar also in the quarter called M. R. B’s, so don’t get confused when looking for him.
I never liked my King C or Heritage because they are too mild. MecLoader mentioned using a Feather 🪶 and I just got done with my shave. King C and a feather 🪶. Why did I not think of this before? You use a feather 🪶 all the time and it never dawned on me to pair the 2. Man what a great shave. Some of the simplest solutions pass right over us sometimes. 🤨🧐🤔🤯 Have a wonderful evening Brian.
Not sure what it is about this razor but it just never works out as good as other razors have for me.. I’ve tried different blades but just doesn’t seem to do it for me. It’s either it doesn’t shave close enough or it blows my skin up, I can’t find a happy medium.
I'm kind of new and somewhat ignorant to the DE Safety Razor world and all......I do currently have a Vanderhagen Short Handle (which I have been defaulting too lately when it comes to DE razors, works very well), and a Vanderhagen Long Handle, and a King C Gillette. The Vanderhagen Long blade I used about 6 years ago, with no blade, because I was 13 and wanted to pretend to shave, then, 3 years ago I got the King C Gillette then cut myself and had a bad experience with it, because I used bad technique with the razor and then put it up until today. I reused it AGAIN TODAY, and best shave ever! It doesn't clog up as much as the vanderhagen handles do, and the King C Gillette Blades feel slightly more sharper. (However, I only do one or two passes at most) Here's my question. If you had to choose, would you prefer Vanderhagen razors/blades or the King C Gillette razors/blades? God Bless and have a great week and Thanksgiving coming up!
SinatraLennon, I have both the King C. Gillette and Van Der Hagen razors. They both do a good job. What I would suggest as a revisit to the Van Der Hagen would be try it again with a shim in there. It might provide a better shave with that.
All RIGHT mate! Subscribing. Really refreshing take on things - and oh, yea I got myself The King C and joined the safety raaazor club 2 weeks ago. Lot to learn here but I´m loving it.
SinatraLennon, happened to find some Stroopwafels at the store the other day and gave them a try.... they are good! I got the ones with chocolate wafels filled with cinnamon and caramel with bourbon vanilla in there.
Sinnatra, I'm sure your blade is still good , and the razor is a good safe razor ,almost impossible to cut yourself with it , but it's shaving gel , only any good for the multi cartridge razors not a DE Razor
the Wilkinson sword razor was my first DE razor ever. i got it with the blades, soap and brush for like 25$. if anyone's wondering it's similar to the king c gillette razor well in my opinion. :)
The head on the King C Gillette is the same as the Edwin Jagger DE89 and Muhle R89. I have the Muhle. Good razor and will be gentle with a smoother blade or more aggressive with a sharper blade. I like the sharper blades in it. Have not tried a feather yet as I’ve heard they pair up well. Almost any blade in a safety razor is better than a cartridge. Could you please give me a shout out on Friday’s shave as my 53rd birthday is Saturday? Thanks.
I bought this for 22€ few days ago and used it first time today and it did a good job. Next i'll probably buy another safety razor + other brands blades just to see if there is a big difference.
This is a very mild everyday razor. But on a three or four day growth, I’d buy a 1955- 56 flair tip off of eBay. It’ll chop that stuff down without a hitch.
I started with one of these, I thought it was OK, but was almost about to drop it, and just go back to the old Mach3, it didn't seem to matter what I did, I;d always wind up with nicks all over my neck. But then my barber suggested Feather blades, and it made a HUGE difference. I recently got myself a Parker Variant, but unfortunately, they sent the wrong blades with it,. They're Astra Platinum. I've heard plently of good about them, but for me, the first shave is OK as long as I'm careful, but then sahve no.2, and nicks and cuts galore again. I hope that my Feathers turn up soon.
Sometimes it takes a bit to find what blades work best for your razor and your skin. Personally my razors (Merkur Progress, Gillette Fatboys, and Slim’s) hate feather blades and so does my skin. I like the Astras and the Gillette 7 o’clocks in the yellow box. Been using double edge razors for 20 years and it’s one of the best things I have done for my skin and my wallet.
@@GilaMonster971 I recently upgraded the Variant to a Rockwell T2. The first couple of shave with it, I was ready to go back to the Variant, but after some experimentation, I found that while I would use the Variant, with a feather on either 2 or 3, for some reason, the more I crank up the T2, the smoother it feels. It looks off-putting, seeing so much blade reveal, but OH my! It's so fricken smooth.
@@V8VRUte I get the absolute best experience from Feathers when I use them in my Muhle R41. Never had a nick, cut, irritation or weepers from that combo either.
@@haydenwayne637 Yeah, I've been loving the feather blades, tried the Rockwell blades when I upgraded to a Model T2, but again, nowhere near what the Feather is. The current blade is probably about 10 shaves old, and the only nicks or weepers I ever get from it is driver error. (Even then, it's better than everything else I've tried to date)
@@V8VRUte I swap a Feather blade after 3 uses max. If I want to leave a blade in longer then I'll use a BIC and swap it out after 5 uses at the latest. The BIC blades and Feather blades are a bit weird compared to each other, for the first shave Feather is sharpest then it drops to the level of a new BIC, the BIC blades on the other hand start the same as a once used Feather then once the coatings wear off they sharpen up to the level of a new Feather and stay there for a while. The BICS also cost much less too, so maybe worth a try if you can get them.
I've been using the King C. Gillette for about a year now as my daily driver, as they say. It has held up extremely well and for the most part still looks brand new. I found the handle to be a bit slick for my taste, so I cured that by putting some "heat shrink tubbing" on the handle to give it more like a rubber handle. I guess I'm just old school... Gillette razor, 7'oclock sharp edge, Williams Mug shave soap and Pinaud Clubman aftershave. Can it get any better than that? Sure, but that will do for me right now... Enjoy the videos. William C. central Indiana.
Am I right never a good idea to shave in a rush ? I’ve learned that the hard way after deep razor burns. Now all the scars serve as a reminder to take as long as needed
I can definitely related. I work at a grocery store, and I always have customers asking if I am someone they know, but I’m not that person. I have about 5-10 doppelgängers lol.
For me the King G. RAZOR isn't as good as it looks. It leaves a few cuts and you have to tilt it in order to get the blade to cut. I like the look but other than that it's a no go. I keep mine on top of my shelf for decoration.
I have very smooth and sensitive baby skin even before I shave and first time I used this thing I still haven't managed to cut myself, not even give myself a razor burn, all I did was shower, splash hot water on my face, and use walmart level shaving cream, no pre-shave, no aftershave, no whatever else people need to feel good about it. Did you apply too much pressure? (none at all is the correct amount).
King C Gillette is good, hey a cheaper beginner might be the Wilkinson Sword classic the black one. i started out with that one . mild imo. great shaving video, as usual fun stuff. stay safe, cheers. Peter
Using this for a few months now. Use Astra and Gillette blades and would love it being more aggressive. Any other blades you can recommend for that? Cheers from Germany, keep up the cool stuff.... 👍🏻
Try Nacet blades they are sharper than Astra Sp's, i have Feather blades Astra Sp's and Nacet blades i prefer the Nacet blades. They(nacets) are smoother than Feather blades and nearly as sharp.
It's an ok first razor. After getting my Rockwell 6S, Fatip Piccolo open comb and Muhle R41 the Gillette is in storage waiting to be given away or thrown in the recycling bin.
@@matias1278 but also it's understandable. I bought this specifically because my hair isn't very thick, nor is my beard. And it being mild is perfect fit. But if you have steel wood on your chin, this might turn out to be a bit too weak.
I'd never owned a safety razor until today. I picked one of these up for 5 £/GBP(6.35 $/USD for those of you across the pond). My local supermarket has them on clearance. There were loads of them. At that price, I'm weighing up if it's worth buying a bunch more purely for the blades. 😅
i got a king c g for myself and then gave one to my brother. i keep it in rotation. i also gave my brother my wilkinson sword which i found a bit more aggressive and similar to my vikings blade the chieftain. i often use the kcg handle with me henson al13 head to give more heft than the aluminum handle for henson. i like the kcg blades. but have started corking all my blades before use and i think it has helped in general.
Could you review the cremo cartridge razor if you haven't already. Seems like every store I go in lately they are really pushing cremo products. I do like there original shave cream. What do you think of cremo?
I used my One Blade with the F10 SE Blade the only one you can use lol. Well the blade was dull.I just opened it. I guess some dull ones at times.😃.(VLS)
He seems to prefer more agressive blade setup and this one is simply sort of "too safe". If you know what you're doing, you can use a shavette... So safety razor being "too safe" is simply not good for some people.
I'm 28. I'm now to a point where I have a stubble every morning. It used to be I had a 3 day grace period before I saw anything but in my late 20's... I see this will have to be an everyday routine. Very grateful for people like you to learn the best way going about this, and to retain my youth for years to come. I don't mind my beard, but I feel so much better with a clean shave. 🪒
Why is everyone always worried about getting cut by the overhang from the outside edge of the blade sticking out from the side of DE razor? The edge is not sharpened, it can't cut you. I don't understand, can some one explain this to me.
@@jaewoojung1309 I shave with a DE every day, and the sides have sliced my nostrils and I cut my wet thumb & finger on the side while tightening/loosening a 3 piece razor. I've seen others say it got them in the ear. Experienced shavers get cuts too!
@@Leenunes007 wow didnt know that could happen! Ive been using the gilette platinum DE blades for a year and didnt have any problems holding and twisting the razor by its sides. I will be more careful from now just to prevent shit happening! Thanks for the info sir.
I`ve tried King C blades and they suck... Not that they are absolutely awful, but comparing them to other blades to much pulling on them. Best for me so far are Wilkinson, Bic and Sputnik. It was interesting to find out that Feather and Astra Platinum give me too much razor burn, `cause my skin is quite sensitive. But those three are enough sharp to take the wiskers without rasor burn. I`m not sure if it could be juct me not having enough experience with DE razor. But having a test package of blades is mandatory for starters and you can revisit some of the things you tried earlier. Who knows, maybe later I would enjoy Feather and Astra.
I use Feathers in relatively aggressive razors BECAUSE I have a sensitive neck (everywhere else is ok). The minimum number of passes needed and the fact I need no pressure at all gives the best result, much better than mild razors and mild blades.

I just picked one up half price for only $15. I gave it a go for the first time on a safety razor. Not the best shave but it did the job for my first try. No cuts either which was nice. I will keep at it and I'm sure I'll get better.
Go for three passes and avoid going against the grain on the neck if you’re getting razor burn.
With the Nivea Gel I usually just apply it to my hand like you did, but the spread it right on your face and it works fine without leaving too much on your hands.
you should do a razor / shaving cream collection. i would love to see the arsenal
brushes also!
It’s a great razor especially if you change the handle like shaved nation handles same height like the Edwin jagerr handle works with it very well
I bought it a week ago...Today whas the first time i tried it with Palmolive shaving cream.....
It was amazing...The best and most comfortable shave i have ever had since i started shaving in 1984.....
I will never ever switch back from DE razors....Fantastic....Thanks for your amazing review
Imagine being 53 years old and finally found the perfect shave 😁😁😎😎
As a fellow 53 year old, I can affirm that it’s never too late to learn something new!
so true 😅
I have been using them for 20 years and actually look forward to shaving…and I even shave my head now.
the perfect timing for this video my razor just shipped in today
Great shave SL. Been using Gillette Astras for some time now and was impressed with them from the very start. Thanks for the video. 👍👍
Thank you for showing us newbies how to replace
I've tried tried the wilkinson sword X treme 3 sensitive and can honestly say there pretty good disposable razor had an extremely close comfortable shave
Brooo your hilarious I started watching for the review but stayed for the vibes. Keep doing your thing g
Thanks Bobby!
Have you tried the aftershave balm by Nivea? I’ve got the sensitive cooling version and I love it.
I paid 11eur for my KCG.
I live in New Orleans, but Mr. B’s Bistro is a bit too fancy for me. There is a dive bar also in the quarter called M. R. B’s, so don’t get confused when looking for him.
Hey Brian, I made the mistake of using the KCG for my very first head wet shave - as you can imagine, just a few cuts!!
Im using mine since a year ago and i really like it (its my first safety razor ever and didnt get any big cuts).
(However, I only do one or two passes at most)
Here's my question.
Watched this video, and went out straight away to get one. First shave felt smooth. Thanks a lot for the videos!✨
You’re welcome!
This was my first safety razor (now have 5 others) and still my favourite. Very rarely get any nicks with it perfect angle of attack.
All RIGHT mate! Subscribing. Really refreshing take on things - and oh, yea I got myself The King C and joined the safety raaazor club 2 weeks ago. Lot to learn here but I´m loving it.
Welcome aboard!
Hi Sinatra very great shaving video. Yes, we all have doppelgangers, but very few get to see theirs. Have a nice day 😊
For the price alone you can't go wrong with this one. Part of my rotation for sure.
SinatraLennon, happened to find some Stroopwafels at the store the other day and gave them a try.... they are good! I got the ones with chocolate wafels filled with cinnamon and caramel with bourbon vanilla in there.
Got 1 of those razors on an Amazon sale for $10, I like it paired with the Gillette blades
this is my daily safety razor, a good tool for me. Definitely the King C. Gillette is a worthy classic razor.
Sinnatra, I'm sure your blade is still good , and the razor is a good safe razor ,almost impossible to cut yourself with it , but it's shaving gel , only any good for the multi cartridge razors not a DE Razor
Hey Sinatra! You were right about the Land Ho aftershave; it is marketed as a fougere. Well done :)
the Wilkinson sword razor was my first DE razor ever. i got it with the blades, soap and brush for like 25$. if anyone's wondering it's similar to the king c gillette razor well in my opinion. :)
Isn’t the wilkinson a TTO?
The head on the King C Gillette is the same as the Edwin Jagger DE89 and Muhle R89. I have the Muhle. Good razor and will be gentle with a smoother blade or more aggressive with a sharper blade. I like the sharper blades in it. Have not tried a feather yet as I’ve heard they pair up well. Almost any blade in a safety razor is better than a cartridge. Could you please give me a shout out on Friday’s shave as my 53rd birthday is Saturday? Thanks.
Try it with a bic chrome platinum. As good as a feather at less than half the price!!!
@@charlespreiss3426 thanks I’ll have to give that a go sometime
I bought this for 22€ few days ago and used it first time today and it did a good job.
Next i'll probably buy another safety razor + other brands blades just to see if there is a big difference.
so?
This is a very mild everyday razor. But on a three or four day growth, I’d buy a 1955- 56 flair tip off of eBay. It’ll chop that stuff down without a hitch.
I love mine more than my 34c.
Hey pal thanks for the shout out. Big Tone is fine it has been one of ny nick names in the past. 🤣
Ha! I I couldn’t help myself.
Now all the scars serve as a reminder to take as long as needed
this is the razor I use regularly. simple and available
Howdy, the link for your razor gives a page not found on their site. Is there another way to find it?
@@muzicsean76 Cheers
It's an ok first razor. After getting my Rockwell 6S, Fatip Piccolo open comb and Muhle R41 the Gillette is in storage waiting to be given away or thrown in the recycling bin.
My guy, most people just want a tool to shave at a decent price. Not everyone turns this into a Pokemon gotta catch them all kinda thing
I don't see why when you can get packs of 200 blades for 7 to 15€ on Amazon.
If anyone can help me out, where do you guys get your products? Walgreens and cvs don’t carry much in the wet shaving dept.
Do you recommend this razor currently have QShave adjustable razor?
i got a king c g for myself and then gave one to my brother. i keep it in rotation. i also gave my brother my wilkinson sword which i found a bit more aggressive and similar to my vikings blade the chieftain. i often use the kcg handle with me henson al13 head to give more heft than the aluminum handle for henson. i like the kcg blades. but have started corking all my blades before use and i think it has helped in general.
What is corking?
@@NickzAndMikz using a wine cork and sliding the blade edges thru part of the cork- allegedly it smooths out any minor imperfections in blade edge
When this razor is on sale buy it for the head and buy a handle with better grip. Basically an awesome bang for the buck de razor when it's on sale.
Could you review the cremo cartridge razor if you haven't already. Seems like every store I go in lately they are really pushing cremo products. I do like there original shave cream. What do you think of cremo?
I have seen this razor for $14 on sale at Amazon.....it's from their supermarket....
$26.95 on Amazon as off 7/18/2022. (For what it's worth) Includes 5 blades.
thanks, regards dapper shaves
I have 13 of the Gillette Kings they're a good razor plus if I lose one I have spares
A bakers dozen!
I used my One Blade with the F10 SE Blade the only one you can use lol. Well the blade was dull.I just opened it. I guess some dull ones at times.😃.(VLS)
Thanks for the review i was planning to buy the oneblade electric razor.... King C Gillette is so much better smooth
Great video, Brian.
The Gillette C King shaves better than the constantly recommended and more expensive Merkur 34C.
It works a lot better when you lather it directly on your face
I enjoy the way you talk.
What are some things you prefer with your standard razors over this one?
He seems to prefer more agressive blade setup and this one is simply sort of "too safe". If you know what you're doing, you can use a shavette... So safety razor being "too safe" is simply not good for some people.
KCG doesn't cut my chin bread very well ..i guess coz its a mild razor..
Probably those are people who never used one/never used one in the proper way xD.
@@Leenunes007 maybe its because my blades are thicker than the ones you use but still, thanks for sharing your experiences.
I love using the king c gillette
The shaving gel brand is actually spoken like "nee vea aaah" To German ears niffeah sounds quite funny.
I love the way you talk
I found out gillette foamy menthol is made in usa but only avalaible in mexico 🤔
