Thank you for sharing this! I just started UV unwrapping and mapping this past week and its had me a very overwhelmed to say the least. Was actually contemplating on giving it up, but now after seeing this addon, I'm most definitely gonna check this out. I'm sure It'll be very helpful and save me loads of time. Thanks again, great video!
Pretty awesome. That option to remove overlap should be named better because I can see it also does something like equalising texel density across the UV's and orientates them to make a better grid flow.
@@GECO666x What's your problem? Before you watch a video, the first thing you see is the title. The title says "free" I was interested in it because of the title.
Randomly came across this looking for something else and the thumbnail got me. So i go to the 7 sec mark and had to say something. UV'ing is not hard. Tedious? Yes. Boring? For some. Hard. Not really. I will say it's hard to teach yourself to do UV's. Learning it from someone else does help greatly. Just like learning to make clothes on your own vs learning from someone else with experience. I use that metaphor because doing UV's is just like pattern making. There is a reason Maya used the term "Cut & Sew" for their tool set. Anyway. I just want to say it's not hard. 4 dimensional math. That's hard. UV'ing. Not so much.
I've a bunch of addons for these tasks in Blender. But I'm rarely use it. Because if you are serious about unwrapping (which mean texturing and rigging later) - RizomUV. For me for almost 6 years nothing can beat it. Because this program is created around the one idea - unwrapping the model in way YOU need it or that fits your purpose. Without limitations around algorithms. More importantly it has a bridge for Blender.
nothing beats Rizum.. only one software come close, thats the UV modul in 3dcoat. 3Dcoat has even easier cutting tools in my opinion. But RizumUV it is, especially when you have to cut complex organic models. Sadly the bridge don't work anymore properly since Blender 3.3 i think
@@janvollgod7221 Am using the - "Rizomuv Bridge - Blender 2.8+ (Windows)" from Blender market. For me it still works in any version from 2.93.6 to the latest 3.5. Which one of those adds seams? I have packmaster and the zen suite and Im pretty sure zen only adds seams based on sharp edges and doesn't have a complex seam solver like this. Edit: None of those do seam solving. They help with unwrapping UV's but none of what you said automatically places seams with an algo.
@@type90b all in youtube. it has texel density, uv unwrap by certain angles position and machine learning algorithm to put all your unwrap stick together inside texture, etc
Thanks for this. How well does it work on Character models? I've been wanting to take characters and get them into Substance Painter, but the thought of Unwrapping characters is intimidating.
Really cool but it still does a pretty horrible job at optimizing them compared to manually doing them, both the models you showed could have been unwrapped so so much cleaner with far fewer islands which leads to less wasted space. This wouldnt cut it for an optimized game mesh in the industry from my experience, but for personal projects where texture space is free because you can add as many textures as you want without performance issues than this is fine
i rewatched how the creator was using it and it was abit different from how i was, you can just select 2 faces and unwrap and it would create the seams, so the issue could be how i was using it too
im guessing it broke in the latest blender. i tried it and it crashes. cant see what the error is that pops up cuse blender closes out soon as it pops up.
on my low poly models it does a terrible job compared to smart unwrap, not sure what i am missing, it seems to overlap multiple faces as well and remove overlap doesnt fix it
it depends all on the model and the topology. For good topology, there is no tool needed though. ZEN does help to organize, but all this Blender add on build on the Blender Unwrapper. Therefore you'll not see wonders. The sad thing, especially now as Blender became more and more popular for sculpting also, that the Unwrapper / Cutter / Packer are not so helpful with heavier models. It feels cluttered and complicated. I guess it's only meant for poly modeling, not for sculpted models. Maybe this will be updated some day.
No offence meant, but the unwrap you made is garbage. Way too many islands and they’re not unwrapped in any logical way. Doesn’t really sell the tool well.

Very good ! nice tool for the uv mapping that has always been something I've never liked :) with this it's much easier !

couldn't have said it better, i think it might be the easiest part of 3d, the problem is that its tedious

I wonder why we havent just go to the point where we just paint on a figure? AI can make advance drrawings and we still got tto UVunwrap?

I stumbled upon this channel and got compeled to subscribe idimietly because of the usefull content.

fantastic, absolutely fantastic, thank you topchannel.
I think you have no idea what a "Good UV" should look like imo
sure it is quick. but I guess it's impossible to get a layout for the texture like in the thumbnail, for like a face ...?
Packmaster, Zen, and Toolkit are far better. I have all 3 cuz they do certain jobs the others dont. They make the job a lot easier.
Are they paid?

Does UV Toolkit work for 3.4+?
says unknown location error python in blender when i try to unwrap
zen uv is better, though its not free but its not expensive either. just bought last week and it does 6 hours of manual job in just one minutes.
Know any good tutorials for that?

Hi !!! ... please how would you unwrap the texture, ... remesh the model, ... and apply back the texture !!! ... that could be a life saver !!! ...
you can bake the textures from the old model to the new one, you will have to uv map the remeshed model, there are tutorials on this
Does not work for Mac so don't make the mistake of buying for Blender on a Mac. Looks amazing, that's a shame.
