Today, we're going back to the 90s to look at the DC Multiverse McFarlane Collector Edition Return of Superman mulleted Man of Steel with Krypto the Super-Dog!

Idk if the people at McFarlane meant to do this, but super-buff mullet Supes *is a thing* that happened in comics. When Superman came back from his fight with Doomsday, his powers were practically completely nerfed (while he was running around with his black solar suit and giant guns). Cyborg tried to fry Clark with Kryptonite a infused energy blast but Eradicator got in the way, the energy filtered through Eradicator and was altered as a result, the impact of the blast actually ended up having a reverse effect on Supes and restored his powers, but traces of that altered Kryptonite chemical (Kryptonite X) where left in his body, and as such, Supes began to steadily absorb more solar energy than normal, getting stronger and developing amplified versions of his previous powers. Towards the end of that story, Supes' body couldn't manage the solar absorption and it made his body swell up like crazy. For a comic or two he looks like this figure, and before the end of that plot point, he's basically the size of the Hulk. Parasite eventually feeds on Supes and it wipes out the Kryptonite X chemical, restoring Superman back to normal (-ish; A lot of his powers stayed elevated afterwards). I can't remember the issues off the top of my head but if you look into "Superman: Man of Steel" comics from the 90's that story starts coming to a head around issues #30-#35 or so.
So if anyone ever wanted a Krytonite X mullet Supes, here he is... (Though I also wouldn't be surprised if McFarlane simply and incidentally fell ass-backwards into that since the box art doesn't lead me to think it's an intentional doing.)

Not really. Krypto the Super Dog never existed during the mullet period. He was retconned out in Crisis and not brought back until a decade after the mullet.
@@pmgerard I found a picture. Superman is hair drying the mullet and Krypto's behind him getting a face full of air.

That custom combo at the end is perfect. Mcfarlane what were they thinking? That Dark Knight superman body would only be good for a Ed McGuinness style head and fix the S on the chest.

Also, I just came from a New Orleans Convention and I got to meet Tara Strong (she voiced Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in The New Batman Adventures), the original 1987 TMNT voice actors for the turtles including Rob Paulsen and he even gave me a free autograph, Maurice lamarche, Peter Collins and Frank Welker 🤩

11:21 I recently got both the supermen for that recipe and I might have to try this because it looks really good, maybe even better than the upcoming classic one. Always love your kitbashes. One figure you really gotta try making kitbashes with is the Deadly Duo joker
I've been back and forth on pulling the trigger on that Joker, just because of the $30 price tag for so much reuse. But it looks so good.

I bought this Superman monstrosity for the head and Krypto. I also bought two additional Hush Supermen which I'm going to repaint and use the mullet head on one and another for a Mezco Superman head with light-up heat vision eyes.

Krypto and the mullet head are the only reason i bought this. I'll be trading out the trunks to use the classic superman to really make him actually classic.

Look at it this way. You get a great kitbash, all the hand options you could want, and a great Daily Planet in rubble base, and a whole extra figure all for the price of just one of the new Crisis on Infinite Earths Build A figures!
I baught a second mullet superman to put the head on a rebirth body with the a.c. 1000 chest and cloth cape that I kit bashed years ago... I originally baught a custom cast mullet head for that body but I fucked up the eyes royally and can't wait to use an official head!

I did a head swap with one of the regular Superman's head, either 1000 or Rebirth and then I gave the mullet head to the Dark Knight Superman body. Both look better to me now.

I bought this figure only for a head swap with the Action Comics 1000 figure. Although his cape looks like it could make a good use on the new "Classic" Superman.
Interesting idea.
My mullet head is currently riding on the HUSH Superman body (will attempt neck repaint soon) so it has the "S" on the cape. I was debating on picking up the pagepunchers Supes so thank you for making it so I know not to! PS: Do we know why McFarlane can't get skin tone or hands right 9 out of 10 times?

I like this superman body its a nice change. Another head swap that works really well is the head from the red son superman
Funny enough, using the smaller heads on this sup's body gives you a pretty good pre-flash point, flash point movie superman

Interesting I hadn't heard that! I hope it's true. The last I saw anybody ask them about it, they replied that they couldn't do a review because of likeness rights. I guess they were able to come to a deal.

Honestly I didn't notice mine having a worser problem standing than any other DC Multiverse figure generally does, but if yours is particularly bad I'm sorry to hear that!
