  • Gabriel is 7 1/2 months and 45 pounds at the time this was shot. So he's still very much a puppy, and will be for almost another year. I'll update this again in a year or two. Sorry for all the "ums" I don't usually do videos like this.

I have had 2 wolf hybrids and still have one (first one lived 18 years). Number one, never hit them. I used hot sauce to housebreak. Best dogs ever and if you have the time get one, but they are a friend for life, don't get one unless you plan to keep them forever.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I feel people should educate themselves about any animal they consider having for a pet. Some require loads of time and dedication and even those that are easy to care for can get sick and need expensive vet care. Folks get impulse pets and then toss them to the curb, when it's too much work or money.

I was taught how to make a quality companion of a wolf dog by a woman that had zero skills with humans and was a miracle worker with any "bad" animal she worked with.
She taught me that he only wanted to make me happy and if he was was a turd I couldn't be upset for more than five minutes or I would have a problem dog.
Everyone loved my dog because I listened to her.
He didn't chase mountain lions or bears, but his being by side and yelling " AROO!" made them kick rocks. 15:58

My friend whom I met online playing GTA said AND I QUOTE
“NEVER EVER discipline your wolf dog when he/she acts out in defensive behavior. A wolf dog’s intuition is NEVER wrong. TRUST your dog’s judgement and UNFORTUNATELY IF your wolf dog says no to ANYONE who enters your home, it’s probably best that you keep that certain someone as far away as possible from your home. It’s fine to be friends with them and still hang out with them BUT only OUTSIDE your home.”
Also, I’d like to mention that every dog’s intuition is correct, not only wolf dogs.

@Mario Landeros Garcia not entirely true wolf dogs that are stable the right way yeah they read people surprisingly well. Wolf dogs can be more mistrusting then wild wolves or dogs or tamed pure bred wolves.
I know one that if you actually wanted to make friends with it it's gonna take a year. At least before it's really judging you and not just being fearful and suspicious.

Great informative video with a lot of good information. Summed up ownership really well. My great uncle, my paternal grandfather's brother (my great uncle) had a pure wolf once. This was many years ago, probably during the thirties in southern Louisiana. Somehow, if I can remember how my dad told it, he killed the mother of a den of wolves and took home one of the cubs. I don't know what happened to the rest of the den, but he ended up with one cub that he raised up from a very young cub. The wolf had therefore not been around other wolves "growing up". He said the animal behaved pretty much like a dog except when they entered the chicken yard. As the wolf approached a chicken he would crouch down until the chicken got close enough and "BAM", off with the chick's head! I don't know who he gave it to, but my dad said he got rid of it after that happened once, or maybe twice. Needless to say, he didn't have the luxury of having a trainer or ability to watch UA-cam instructional videos in the thirties.
Again, great video. I enjoyed it thoroughly and will advise anyone who may contemplate this to watch your video. 😉

Back in Brooklyn in the late late 90, I was given a 1 year old low content that was still too much to handle.my friend and I were walking in the street in a summer night in Bayridge. We saw this awesome looking shepherd sable color but had very long legs. Tied up to a fence and the owner was with his girlfriend. He was a young guy. We played with him and we were amazed how athletic. As we were walking away he asked us if we wanted to have hi. As a young teen I foolishly said yes excitedly, disregarding we lived in a small apartment. I bring him home and he barely made it 48 hours. He was jumping on bunkbed p, barked constantly p, howled. Not knowing what to do I was walking around and found a young middle eastern dude that lived alone and agreed to take him. That dog blossomed. I’d see him daily going to high school . He’d be off leash and obeying commands, but he had a real dr jecklynand Hyde persona. He’d go from playing to snarling and showing teeth.

I have a wolf hybrid . She is trained , with an ecollar which was planned before I got her. but I could never have her in public off of a leash. She has extremely high prey drive, is very athletic, and super smart. Rayna weighs 80 pounds. But this past week she jumped the metal gate is my house and attacked my Yorkie that was in my arms. She didn’t kill her because I put my hand in her mouth so that she couldn’t bite down( except on my hand) She was able to bite down a couple of times but I was able to get her away. Bella my Yorkie will have surgery when she gets healed enough from the trauma.

    Hey, just discovered your channel.
Good video man. I'll subscribe to see more in the future. I have 3 wolfdogs (two are Czechoslovakian).
I also think it's a good thing to talk someone out of getting one and not into getting one. They're a lot of work, a lot of time, and a lot of money. If someone wants to still deal with all of the negatives, they may be able to have what it takes.
I agree completely about the sacrifices it takes and the reward given.
Also feed mine raw food, too. All dogs should be eating raw food, as it's what they evolved to eat.

Ok my two cents I am not a professional wolf trainer I have owned wolfdogs for over 25 years of my life, and currently I have two high content wolf dogs, first off the runt don't mean anything, I've seen the runt grow up to be HUGE and very aggressive and other way around. I have kano who is 7-8 months over 80 pounds and his brother lupo a year and 7 month 137 pounds they get big. I qpersonally disagree with getting a trainer, if you can't teach or train them yourself never get one, especially with high content. They work off a hierarchy if you don't put yourself as alpha they will and you will never control them. And the time there away you need that bonding time extremely important. You can even teach them to lose the fear of strangers and severely limit there pray drive. Everything with wolves is be a hard stern leader and they will respect you for it

We think we maybe can provide for her, We have a decent size backyard (pool and pavement mostly not a ton of grass) and a decent size front yard. We are willing to be very committed to training and care for her, but I want to know if it's a lost cause and only certain people are qualified still. I just want to do the best thing for her. I'd like to take care of her, but if not I'd otherwise want to find an appropriate shelter before she gets fucked up behaviorally. Thoughts? all advice welcome.

If you can manage to teach it just a few commands, namely no, down (which is crucial for calming an excited dog), and heel (meaning come to you), the dog will serve you very well, but if you can't teach it that, you're going to be in trouble. I tried to get the shock collar, and everybody told me not to put it on him because it would make him mean, but he has no boundaries where I live if see a stray dog can shoot it here 😢He can jump at least 10-15 ft or more he knows he can jump the fence Training is the best way keeps from traumatizing yourself. The state I found him in the only way you can keep a wolf or Wolf hybrid is on the reservation is the only way legally. My dog has Basenji because he yodeled husky, he looks like might have a little bit of Carolina dog in him too. To me one blue eye one gold eye so it’s Odin nothing else matters I found him as a pup. I took him to get groomed. The groomer brought him back right away. I was like what’s wrong he’s not being good she says no his eyes are turning red so we can’t take them like that.

    Awesome 🐕
    I highly recommend a book.
On taking terms with dogs, calming signals....
    By Turid Rugaas.
It describes about 30 signals that all dogs use, dogs, wolves, foxes and the rest all have the same language. You can then use said language yourself as well as learning what you dog is doing. A simple example, Yawning calms a nervous or stressed dog. They will yawn to calm themselves. Or yawn to calm another dog. So a person can yawn to calm a dog.
    I'll shut up now. 🤣🐕👍

It’s not cheap brother. Minimum of $120 a month. Probably closer to $150. My dog eats real well though, it could definitely be done cheaper if you cut the quality. It was closer to $35 a month before the world started collapsing around us.

    • @BikesNThings

So, this video is kind of dated at this point, and I should probably make a new video. "One year with a wold dog" or something like that, lol. He does still scare me sometimes though. He's extremely friendly towards myself and my family members. He has never growled at a person as far as I know, but he has never had a need to. Almost everyone is afraid of him. I have seen him be (extremely) aggressive towards other dogs though. He's ready to destroy them, basically, and he assuredly would. Anyway good luck, and please be careful

I think she has more traits common with a cat then a dog. Mine is 50% canadian timberwolf 25% german shepherd and 25% malamute. She looks a lot like yours. In my country we don't have those dogs. So when i walk her and have by accident met hunters they get super confused when they see her. Because her teeth are diffrent as is her posture walk how she stares at others and lets not forget her paws.

Dogs that react like that are not happy, and it is not good for them or you. Training does not need to be rough, and as far as I am concerned ... your "trainer" failed your dog. Do yourself a favor, and check out this channel ----> ua-cam.com/video/uADoOzZQmek/v-deo.html I see now that this vid was over a year ago, but it's never too late to learn some new dog skills.
