I don't know, but somehow this version this takes some beating. Tom manages to convey Wil Hopcyn's angst whereas other efforts, allbeit worthy, fall short. Just imagine if Tom sang Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn in Welsh (!) To quote Eric Bowen below: "Pa mor anffodus nad yw Tom Jones yn canu yn Gymraeg!"

Was at Llangynwyd yesterday, at the grave of Wil Hopcyn, its a lovely interesting little village and the story is worth looking up.

Beautifully sung as always!!! But I agree ,what a pity that Tom Jones and the wonderful Treorchy Male Voice, did not sing it in the original Welsh, I am sure if he tried he would succeed like he always succeeds in everything he does,! After all he's 'Our Tom' ! Now listen here Tom bach, if Donny Osmond can sing 'Myfanwy' in Welsh? You can also sing in the ancient language of the country of your birth ! How about a guest appearance at the Eisteddfod Tom? Singing "Bugeilior Gwenith Gwyn in Welsh? You know people, translating everything Welsh into English might sound like a good idea, especially to none Welsh speakers, but please be careful, it could just end up being another nail in the coffin of the 'Language of Heaven ' "If you don't use it ,you loose it" People often don't realise how much they miss something until its too late, Please don't let this happen to the Welsh language. Remember the immortal words in the Welsh National; Anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, "O fydded i'r hen iaith barhau ! " (O may our old language endure.! )

The phrase "if you don't use it, you lose it" strikes a chord with me as the true language of Jersey, Jérriais, has pretty much died out. My eldest had a short course in it when at primary school run by the Société Jersiaise (SJ), but that's all it was - there weren't any exams in it. Two years later, when my youngest should have been able to learn it, the course was no longer available as SJ didn't have the funds. I was also at what was the University of Glamorgan for 5 years from 1991 (when it was still the Polytechnic of Wales) to 1996.
