Printing for the joy... that's the best.
EXACTLY.
Chelsey did some wonderful designs! 😌
What I've been doing on my Prusa MK3S when printing items in vase mode is to increase "External perimeters" to something much higher like 0.6 or 0.7 mm, even with my 0.4 mm nozzle. I find that the overextrusion for the single perimeter in vase mode enhances the durability nicely for not much effort. I mention all this because the wider line width being printed may help cover some of those overhang gaps.
Cool! I tried it recently and found out that, at the speeds a vase is made, the 0.4 nozzle can and does 0,7mm width and you're telling me that even .8 might be feasible. Vases in good scale are definitely made for larger lines, and... Well my thought was that if a model doesn't print properly with a 1.0mm nozzle, ehm...there's something with the model itself bc... Imagine the section of your extrusion: .2 height and 1.0 large. Even with a 60° overhang you should have the filament overlapping by 60% the extrusion below.
So there's no way a good vase wouldn't print with a 1.0mm line width.
Different matter if the layers do overlap but don't stick fast enough so they "string" like a chord on the curve they're printing instead of developing along the correct path.
That artifact was very strange, the surface didn't seem so steep to be the cause of it.
These are actually the videos I most love (and somewhat miss) from you! I love seeing you be a happy little nerd. A happy little 3D Printing Nerd.
YES!!! I need to channel my inner Bob Ross more. also, NOTICE THE HAPPY LITTLE TREES in the thumbnail!
Joel, good to see you having fun with something you printed. Do more of it
Ahhh Polymaker Polyterra. My favorite filament. The best, most satisfying support material removal ever
They would look amazing in a dual color pla.
LOL at the end 🍌
Joel, We have tested the same GST filament. Its cheap but prints well. But the roll holder is cheep more fragile than other brands. But the filament is good. So surprised!
Right? The spool itself is awful, but the filament is great for the price!
Love these vases! Looks like I will need to start printing some before the wife sees your video!
Always great to see a “just because” print video so ty very much and hope to see more. And man Sean is the best with these videos you are such a great team! 👍👍👍
More to come!
Never been attracted to a vase before
That is a wonderful design! Also, I've found you can make quite thick walls in Vase mode even with smaller nossles. My stock 0.4mm nozzle on my Prusa Mini, will happily do upwards of 0.8mm layer width in vase mode. Makes for real sturdy models. Looks better at 0.6mm thick, more consistent, but it *will do* 0.8mm from my testing. Very cool.
about time joel you havin't had fun in years have you mate
that varse should be in a art gallery
Chelsey is an awesome designer!! Wish I could do a tenth of what she does
just got done printing a modular violin, and it is making me happier than it should :) thanks for that message. :)
I've been printing with the gst3d since february and got great results, but i don't have too much experiece with other brands. Love to hear that you also liked it!
Polytera is probably my personal favorite and you can print it at 195
"Because you know I'm all about that vase
'Bout that vase, no treble ..."
Go to the back of the class young man or woman, And stand there facing the wall and think about what you have just said...
@@Patrick_Cooper A word about my weakness, I'm totally addicted to vase.
OMG YOU ALL hahahhahah
@@3DPrintingNerd Rule 34 always applies.
Hi Joel. Thanks for the "just for fun" print. Even from this side of the camera, "just for fun" prints are the best. I've been using GST3D for over a year. It has it's moments, & issues, but the price is hard to beat. I've gotten some GREAT prints with it, i.e., my 28" tall multi-piece Yoshi in Apple Green! BTW, their Army Green is the best green I've used, color-wise & printing! High Five!!!
28" tall multi piece Yoshi?!?!?!
I really need to get back in to printing polymers and watching this channel again
Amazing print. I will order some GST-filament and test it out. High Five!
Vase mode is great, I try to do any many of my projects in Vase mode as possible. My suggestion would be to try doubling the line width, makes the print stronger and I have found less holes.
Love the PolyTerra PLA filament! It's not brittle and it never tangled upon my spools so far.
Me too. I've printed over 20kg now.
I've been having some really good experience with it.
I believe it has slightly more warping and stringing than typical PLA, but I've not done a scientific test or anything, and both of these are acceptable.
🤣 My spoon is too big
MY SPOOOOON IS TOOOO BIG!
@@3DPrintingNerd I AM A BANANA!
And for the rest of you, ua-cam.com/video/W7JyjZI3LUM/v-deo.html
Great video! What I love about 3d printing is just printing something. I think it would be great if you did more video’s of models from patron’s you are subscribed to. I personally only follow clockspring 3d who I only know about. You follow many others and would just love to see you print some models from all the people you follow on patreon.
Up the extrusion multiplier instead of 100% do something like 110-120% or 1.1x-2x to get thicker lines for better over hangs
Excellent editing as always! 😂
i print with the GST 3D PLA all the time, ordered 10 spools a while back and every single one i've used so far, have printed superbly!
I'm going to reach out to them!
About time you had some fun.
Holy smokes that is one tall print and it looks stunning
I stopped using vase mode due to the fact that if you use a .4 nozzle, the walls are way to thin! I use regular print mode with 3 perimeter walls and six bottom layers the top layer turned off and no infill ! Vases print great and they are also functional.
The Workbench sat in Joel's garage like "Notice me Senpai 🥺" 😂
i believe they took it back, and Also I think Joel couldn't wait to give it back
hahahha. well, we had our fun together, and it was picked up and it went back home.
@@3DPrintingNerd can't blame you there 😂
I just got polyterra to check for a cheaper matte filament. I use spidermaker and the texture is superb with a good iron Grey. Need to try the new polyterra.
I downloaded FemVase and am trying to print in vase mode in cura but getting holes in the side of the model. Did you run into this issue?
Joel, you look healthier and younger! Have you slimmed down? or are you like me and look like a child when you shave?
hahahah, I am a baby face when I shave!
I really like the matte finish on the PolyTerra filament, but I've found that the layer adhesion is not great. I also have problems with inconsistent extrusion, sometimes. But I've printed a lithophane with the white and it looks awesome!
Hi Joel! I love vase mode, whenever possible I find a way to print in vase mode. I use 0.8mm wall and 0.36mm layer height whenever possible. (with 0.4mm nozzle) Hi Five!
Hey Joel, im having some issues with my printer, need help, when i start printing in first layer the nosel all ways get lift from the bed , not on particular place its get lift any place, last 2 day i leveled my printer bed mor than 15 times but it's still happening , and z motor is stopped working for 1 hour and after some setting it's start working but still having that issue, what should i do?, anyways 💕🔥👌👍
Now THIS is how you bring booty back!!!!
Thanks.
Love the tall parts! We may have to get our big D-bot up and running to see how these would look at almost 800mm! How are the other colors of GST, we have seen their ads as well?
I think you are able to do it these days, so I challenge you to design and build a chair. Perhaps start with something like a Purple cushion's lattice structure for a seat in a flexible filament.
550 mm tall torso is basically human size. That'd be a person who's around 160 cm or 5'3"
Thanks!
OMG Seriously? That's beyond kind thank you!
Love your video! I had fun too!
Super jealous of your gmax.... Curses my 200mm build height.
You should print a zane rodgers model with that!
I've recently upgraded a stock ender 3 with sen3d idex kit then I upgraded that to the 400x400x500 xl kit. So I love making just big prints
Oh my goodness that sounds amazing!
@@3DPrintingNerd so now I have a flsun qq-s, stock build volume ender3, 400xl ender 3 with idex and a geeetech a20m. Idk what one I'm going to put my palette 3 pro on when I get it. Do u have any recommendations?
He should print the friendly articulated slug on thingiverse, but really big
Fair warning to everyone, you can only get that price if you order ten spools, making it 80 bucks. But still it's a great deal if you can swing that much at once
4:35 That GST3D filament its made here in Argentina, and it cost arround 4.99 usd per kg. Just an advise, some of their spools are really bad, the red one is transparent, and not solid red. Or the white sometimes have black dots
That’s good to know, thank you!
@@3DPrintingNerd Yes, that filament is really bad. I do not recommend it.
@@3DPrintingNerd Its like a lottery, you have 50/50 change. Or you get a good one, or you get one that is really bad, once i got one that instead of being 1.75mm, it was 1.5 in one section and 2.3mm in other section!!! almost a 1mm of different in the same filament!
GST3D is an interesting brand. I've bought quiet a few spools. But it seems their QC isnt great as i got one prder where every single spool was dirty and constantly clogs my nozzles
It's a super interesting idea. Charge next to nothing, produce product that is both amazing and terrible at the same time :)
Some other vases you could print in the Polialchemy Elixir filament: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/h-a-v-o-c-vase-collection
Great link, thanks for sharing!
i find a way to print very special form in vase mode..like a 380mm moon, i load in prusa a moon
as big the bed can accept.. then aded inside it one at 276mm... bot well center, the print in vase mode.
i don't no what the inside look like, but the outside is perfect... now every time i print complicate
nearly impossible item in vase mode... including big bust of people i do that...its like two vase inside another...just a small size of difference.
Wouldn't widening the walls help prevent the angle printing problem? I'm assuming that's why the 1mm nozzle didn't have the weak area. Its a thicker and wider layer.
Yeah. I usually increase width to ~0.6mm when I print vase mode models, it helps a lot with steeper angles. Don't even need a wider nozzle for it, 0.4mm will do just fine!
Hello! Could you share the STL?
Boom boom
You should print a giant version of the wizard's tower from Fates End Kickstarter campaign.
Damn son, that vase is THICC
It will break a LITTLE ...
I like vase mode and have used it often but the design of the object needs careful consideration. I use it for model rockets where tall prints are sort of essential.
Vase mode for model rockets seems PERFECT
@@3DPrintingNerd They are also quick to print, very light and you can blow them up like Elon does at low cost. One day one of my rockets will actually take off and fly.
Was that a clip from Don Hertzfeldt's Rejected at the end?
YES
My spoon is too big!
You should put a smaller layer height like 0.15 or 0.1, to reduce the chance of having those gaps in the prints
I tried that in the slicer, but even with a 1.0mm extrusion width there were still some gaps that couldn't be overcome in vase mode.
@@3DPrintingNerd maybe it’s because of too much width no?
Hi Joel and Sean hope your day is good and what did you guys think of the flash s7 finale
I thought it was the only decent episode of season 7 (both episodes). The speed force swords were…. interesting. I liked it, it made just another speedster fight interesting.
More just for fun prints please.
ITS A DEAL
Why is the last one, the 550 millimeter jumbo in GSD 3D, giving me xenomorph vibes?
Oh my goodness, you’re right!
Will you be following up on the CR Smart with a full review?
Yes! I brought it home to start the process of doing all the prints for it.
Is this how Old Man Parker started?
That Alpha Brass is sick but I recently saw some jewelry boxes printed with wood filament and it blew my mind. It was 99% convincing that it was real wood. Have you messed around with any of that?
My experience in wood filaments is limited, but I've really loved the Polywood from Polymaker. There is zero wood in the filament, but the way it mimics the texture and look is crazy!
Is this like The Joy Of Painting (rip Bob Ross) 3D printing Edition.
That's BRILLIANT
@@3DPrintingNerd "See, here's a happy little benchy but every little benchy needs a friend so we've printed a friendly little lady vase. Now let's add a laughing little torture lattice for them to play on. see how the stringing is so minimal, they should have plenty of hours playing and swinging from the overhangs.... "
😄
Is fun is good
There are just times when you have to say the heck with it....I am going to do what I want today! I think that is part of just surviving in a modern world. I live in farm country, and there are times you watch farmers who do that every once in while, yes they have lots of things that NEED to be done.... BUT, you know what? Today's a good day to take the kids fishing, go camping, whatever.
Print a famous sculpture that you'd want on display in your house with the spare Elixir.
Now that's an idea.
That filament looked a lot like chocolate
Print Melmetal from Pokémon. Gmax if you can. It looks so cool.
Probably this isn't common for western, but everything looks like a tenga, which makes the vase model way more "interesting"
You didn't say how long it took to print!
OH CRAP I SUCK. The big one was 15 hours I believe.
Go big, then go home and have milkshakes!
Go bigger! ;)
Fem vase is _thicc vase_ .
#BIGFRIGGENDEAL
Wut da vase doin?
3d printing nerd and I like to make stuff collab
Wait a 1mm nozzle?!? Okay now that must spit out a ton of filament at once
It does, and it's awesome :)
It's astounding how much hate I have developed for the anime-wow sound effect. I hope It soon falls out of favor and youtubers stop using it over and over again
Now just print it a little bit bigger, and your woman has a new fancy dress for the next dinner party... (Might be more comfy in flex filament and with a zipper or something to get into the dress easyer)
400 g Torture Toaster!!
Print a darth vedder with the silky black. Edved head with darth vader body. Jk, Vader would look nice, though…
OOOOH!!!
BANANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Vayse or vahse? lol
The biggest print I ever have printed was a 900 mm vase
Please tell me that gCreate has a gMax 2 Pro on it's way to you... You are probably their biggest word of mouth promoter!
The vases look like pretty lady bodies to me. Anyone else think so or am I just frustrated?
Are they women? It looks like to me... Cool.
Yes, it's a take on a classic female form!
@@3DPrintingNerd Thanks for answering, Joel! Have an awesome week!
You as well!
now 3D print a 3D printer
😂 you guys really don’t know how to use metrics!! There’s no such a thing as 550 millimeters, it’s 55 centimeters!!
Savannah banana ,fo fanna sounds like a pestering rhyme ,not nice !
I'd rather just buy the model instead of signing up for yet another Patreon sub
Never seen a Patreon where you couldn't buy it externally after that month is done.
@@cenciende9401 got a link? I couldn't find one.
I’ve heard that from others as well. I’ll send a note to Chelsey and see what she can do.
For awhile we sold stuff on cults3d, if its something a lot of people would be interested in we would consider doing it again. Right now we are releasing tons of free models on our Thangs page, and then all the other stuff is Patreon exclusive. We mainly were trying that because it gets so time consuming to be uploading files and pictures to so many different sites, but if there was enough interest I would definitely consider doing it again. Thanks for your opinion! :)
@@ChelsCCT that makes sense. Thank you.
