  • Wondering how to beat applicant tracking systems in 2023?
    It may seem like a black box of information, but applicant tracking systems (ATS for short) are less complex than they seem. For the most part, they’re really simple versions of your favorite search engine - without all the money and resources behind them. The good news is that makes it even easier for you to build an applicant tracking system resume which puts you at the top of the candidate list.
    Before your resume makes it to a human, it has to pass through the applicant tracking system software. This resume scanning software determines which resumes make it to the desk of the hiring manager and which ones are rejected.
    Watch this week’s video to learn how to write an applicant tracking system resume to beat the hiring software. You’ll learn resume tips to help you write the best ATS resume, and learn how to beat the applicant tracking system.

    What an absurd system. The amount of human life wasted tailoring resumes and cover letters to specific jobs only for them to never be read is absolutely staggering. It's got to be in the millions of years at this point when you consider it's a global problem. Regardless, thanks for the video.

    whats crazy is that you have to apply to 100+ jobs to get a few call backs. so you are saying we have to customize over 100+ resumes to 100+jobs descriptions and that is crazy

    So you advise to use the exact same wording for skills as in the job description ("Vizualized data" for one job and "Data vizualization skills" for another). BUT then also to word it as to how exactly the candidate used those skills at their previous jobs. How on earth does one actually do that? It's non-sensical.

    The problem with HR is they dont know anything about technical skills. They dont know that understanding a more complicated computer language is better experience then having specific knowledge about a less complicated language. Hiring managers could easily make this distinction.

      HR people are some of the dumbest people I have ever interacted with at my jobs. My current HR person still has no clue what my job is after 8 years. And we need to rely on these people to hire us 😮‍💨 extremely frustrating, and it is no wonder why so many companies are so disfunctional

      Your right, it is a paradox. Honestly the only way to get around it is to lie on your resume. I know it's not the right thing to do, but playing fair isn't going to get you anywhere, it's unfortunate but it's what you got to do.

  • @susannoronha
    @susannoronha Рік тому +21

    I find that matching the resume to the JD is like cheating. I get that there are a lot of irrelevant resumes that come through job postings, but as a recruiter, it's my job to filter that out. ATS is good for parsing resumes and building databases. But beyond that, I believe that the recruiter needs to put in the effort. It takes just about 5 seconds to see if you want to read the full resume or not. (for context - I am a recruiter).

    • @howtosober
      @howtosober Рік тому +16

      If recruiters used more candidate-focused and easier hiring processes, less candidates would be trying to beat them and recruiters would attract more dedicated applicants. The majority of hiring processes are laden with pointless redundancies and things that have nothing to do with the actual role for which a recruiter is hiring. For example, I have a personal rule that if I receive a bunch of "assessments" before anyone has even spoken to me, I'm not pursuing the job. Taking tests is work- and I don't work for free. Another one is if I upload my resume and then the recruiter's ATS system tries to make me retype all the same things in their individual fields. Again, I won't go any further. Job-hunting is already laborious and time-consuming. Recruiters should be thinking of the candidates who are doing this 50-100 times in a week rather than only of their own convenience.

No educator is answering this directly. Every one is beating around the bush rather than suggest a procedure that works. If I tailor my resume, it becomes really illegible for a human as we are trying to capture the keywords. It will be great to know your thoughts on that as you are a recruiter.

I also know the jargon/language used in my field, so why would I get an automated email saying that I don't have the experience, or they found another candidate?
