~16 months later and I still think this might be the closest thing to a 'perfect smartphone' that has come out. I haven't owned one, but I still think it's the most desirable phone I've seen since it came out.
Mega2Sniper I haven't had it, but I think the specs plus the 4k-ish screen, plus removable battery, plus SD card slot, plus the S pen, plus all of the other features make it hard to beat. That's just me, but I still lust over it more than any other phone and it came out in 2014, which I think says a lot.

Got the Note4 in 2015, a couple of months after it's release and I LOVED it to bits. Solid build quality and great functionality. Was hoping to get the Note7 as a replacement but we know how that turned out and now I'm waiting for the Note8. Its been a wonderful 2yr experience with my Note4 and although it may seem quite old now, it still gets the job done for power users like me with software updates and a spare battery to boot. I'd recommend it to anyone that's on a really low budget but looking to have a great high end phone experience in 2017 since they go for between just $200 and $300 currently.
Just got this phone 2 days ago and I have no problems or dislikes whatsoever. This is my first time owning a Samsung phone and I am incredibly impressed. After owning an iPhone 5 for two years and loving it, I didn't think anything could compete but I was wrong. I love how much customization you get with the note 4. Not to mention the battery life is amazing! If you're worried about the size of this phone, I've never owned anything larger than a 4.1 screen yet holding this phone seemed seamless to me. In the end it all comes down to preference but if you are looking for something that's not an iPhone (which I was) the note 4 will not disappoint. Love this phone so much already. Other girls can have their iphones, I'm sticking with this beast ;)
Sometimes I like to look back on old tech just to he were we came from. Retro tech was always one of my favorite things to play with. These are not retro, but old enough to look back on and think... wow. We came so far yet we have stayed the same at the same time.
Using a s9 plus now but Note 4 was hands down the most exciting phone I ever owned. It truly changed my life coming from a Galaxy Note 1st Generation before that.
My note 4 got damaged this year. This is the best phone samsung ever made . I am still attached to this note more than other samsung devices and also the first phone where I got version update to from lollipop to marshmallow. RIP NOTE 4

The 4-core CPU is doing very little to help the speed of the Android phone. You aren't one of those people that thinks the on-the-box specs determine the speed, are you? Even an entry level computer org class will teach you otherwise. The iPhone 6+ also offers more internal storage and almost twice the on-screen battery life. Don't be so hostile, dude. This Note 4 is absolutely AMAZING, but you don't have to be a goddamn fanboy about it. You can like something different than what other people like.
I was fighting between this and the Nexus 6, but I caved yesterday and got the Note 4. The S Pen was the deciding factor. With the updated 2000 levels of pressure sensitivity, its essentially a 6" Cintiq. And as an artist, that's music to my ears. I will say, I've been having some issues using Hangouts for SMS. Whenever I'm on WiFi it consistently fails to send text messages. Also, Firefox's performance is pretty poor compared to Chrome and Samsung's browser, which is a shame, because it performed comparatively to Chrome on my Moto G. Regardless, beastly little (or should I say big) device. Now all it needs is Lollipop.

My mistake was chose touchwiz over stock android (s3) so now i have lags and you now what i dont have? Kitkat and obviously,lollipop :(,and i used to wait for the updates so much time :( I hope u dont pass for the same mistake a passed :(
My concerns were confirmed in this review. The Exynos Note 4 has roughly half the battery life than the Snapdragon Note 4. Will the battery life improve with a firmware update? I guess that is TBD. Anyway, fantastic review as always.
***** Yes, I'm in Korea. Well, it's not because it can't find the networks. I'm getting about 3 hours of screen time with about 18 hours of standby in Korea on high brightness. I'm still trying to pinpoint the problem but I'm not close to the answer. It can be something in the advanced wifi settings, or maybe some background service for samsung services that only comes preloaded on the korean models, or an LTE module that is required because the processor is not made by qualcomm, or maybe the exynos processor consumes twice the battery even at the lowest frequency. It's probably a combination of those which is why it's so hard to pinpoint.
Guys what are you talking about? Here we have some exynos Note 4 from export,most of them are the N910C model with the almost two years old ericsson modem and they have aproximately 10-15% better battery life than snapdragon model..
the screen-to-body ratio of phones these days gives them considerably more screen real estate compared to phones of 5 years ago, which is why 5.8 inches isn't that big anymore on a phone in modern day standards. lmao i know it's not that serious but there you have it.
5.7 inch display may look small in 2022 but cus it's 16:9 it is tall and wide enough to call it big display and actually I prefer 16:9 rather than 19.5:9 and 20:9 ratio
Subscribed! I'm blown away by the way you notice the differences in tiny details compared to previous generations or other phones that the galaxy note 4 has. Or like you even notice that Samsung uses the sharpening filter on their photo app and that it produces weird artifacts in the bokeh which I still know from the Note 2. You're an expert! Really good review! I'm looking forward to seeing your review on the Note 5!
I actually still have this phone in white!! It was a hand-me-down from my dad and it still works up this day. It works perfectly fine, other then the fast draining battery,,but yeah great phone
This thing has a Pulse Oximeter! I'm a nurse and I noticed that it had SPO2 listed in S Health under heart rate . I opened it up and sure enough, it has the ability to measure your blood oxygen saturation! I'll have to test it against one at the hospital when I get a chance.
I used that feature for the first time last night on my Note 4! Had no idea what it was but it was really cool. S Health has been extremely accurate for me. I had some health conditions and the readings I got from S Health using the heart rate monitor and stress monitor, was dead-on! What an amazing piece of technology!
How long before Samsung realizes that if they need to continue to use touchwiz (for whatever reason that may be) they need to rewrite it from the ground up? Had a S3,S4 and Note 3. I use my phones like the everyday user so no rooting. I do like to put on Nova launcher which helps a ton but honestly. If you're putting that much thought into the hardware why not rewrite the software to take advantage?
What on Earth are you whining about? TouchWiz is what makes the Note 4 so great! Without it the S-Pen would be useless. Plus, Samsung is the King of Android, they sell million upon million of devices, so they're not just going to remove TouchWiz because some online nerds prefer stock. if you think the note 4 is good the Sony Xperia Z3 is even better it has a 20.7mp camera dual front speakers PS4 remote play and it has even better battery than the note 4 and its waterproof its also 7.3mm thin almost as thin as the 6.9mm iphone
Rick Galindo that camera sounds nice but all of the other things I don't really care about. I actually hate how thin the iPhone 6 is. I think samsung kept it the perfect size. Anything thinner and I'd be dropping it all the time. But that's just my opinion, I bet it's a great phone for a lot of people
I have the note 4 and it's a great phone. Records unbelievable video in 4k. Has great battery life, beautiful screen, three gigs of memory. What more can you say? It's the best phone out there right now.
I'm using a Galaxy Note 4 today, alongside my iPhone SE ❤ Everything (almost) about this device is up there with newer smartphones, seriously! If anybody is planning to get one now (in 2018), just go for it. This is definitely one of Samsung's best creations in my opinion 😊
I'd also want a GPE Note. But the S-Pen, which is the selling point of the Note 4, would probably not work on vanilla Android. So it would become useless on a GPE.
Just received this phone from my dad to use as a media device, he's had it since launch so it's almost going 5 years! The user-removable battery has allowed this phone to live for so long, I hope that feature will come back one day.
I have iPhone 4S and loved my phone. However, I am planning to buy Galaxy Note 4. I am not i pressed with the iPhone 6, I have tested it and used it for a day or so but I feel like Galaxy Note 4 can be my everyday phone plus it has replaceable battery, s-pen which I totally love, specially when writing notes. Plus camera is better. Apps will be the biggest draw back since it is android but I think it is time for me to select Samsung over Apple.
As a previous Samsung galaxy S5 owner, I feel that people who switch won't be impressed. At first, I was impressed with the screen and all of its useless features but then a week later, I realized it's just a smartphone. The screen is WAY over saturated, the app selection is terrible, it's camera is weird, it's build it's disgusting. It's a bad phone, get the iPhone and go to Apple's website and read ask the things about the iPhone 6 and iOS 8. You'll love it.

I'll admit that 90% of the features on the S5 are useless crap, but the Note 4's features are actually useful, like the multi-window and S-Pen stuff. The iPhone 6 Plus has basically no features that take advantage of the huge screen. Not to mention, did you not notice that the build of this phone is hella better than the GS5? i was testing Note 4 yesterday and even though i'm huge Apple fan, this phone realy is something more. I never liked phones with this size of display, Note 4 is diferent story. It's not that dificuld to use it with one hand most of the time because of it's grip. This phone is not slippery at all. Hardware is very good and camera is the beast! If you are looking for a quality phone with bigger display and high end specs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the one!

I already bought a new phone (iPhone 5c) for my 2 year contract. I'm thinking of buying this phone straight out ($800-$900). I love apple but this note 4 provides more advantages especially since I can expand the memory using the sd card. I never paid more than $200 for a phone but I might with this one. I write a lot and the s pen seems amazing. The colors, the screen etc ... JUST AWESOME!
+yumiko0017 my husband got a note 4 , but he hardly use s pen, what a pity. I want to use s pen which may keep the screen clean all the time since there's no sweat while using s pen. But Iphone 6 plus don't have an offical pen for it... and s pen could not use on iphone...
This is still the best phone Samsung has ever made, a removable battery, sd card slot, s pen, fingerprint reader, IR blaster, and a headphone jack with metal sides, if they remade this phone today with a modern screen processor and software it would have everything
Still on my note 4! Still loving it. High points and low points from 4 years of owning. Had geek friends tell me i need a new one, but nothing has broken yet, just one battery replacement (Which you can do because the back clips off) And also gave me a better battery from Anker). Still fully functional, slightly lagging on screen changes compared to modern rivals but perfectly acceptable. Camera holds up well in some circumstances. You cant just smash photo and expect it be amazing. But if you set up well, it still takes high quality photos and videos. All the niche little quirks with sidebars ect are now being used 4 years later.. took me a while apparently! Perfect viewing UHD footage with its 2k screen. The CASE is the best part of this phone and should of been in the review. With its windowed mode, it makes it endlessly versatile. Runs any games I've ever played without fuss or much heat. New Anker battery still lasts me a day of light use, and most of the day on heavy/moderate use. (But who doesn't have a charger beside them everywhere.) Did lose its security patch level last year, but every app ive tried has continued to work with no issues. The only App I'v ever had trouble with was Snapchat being slow. So. Very good phone. Did not think at the time I would have it this long/it survive!
I love the battery life on this phone, from 100% to 15%, it has 5 hours and 49 minutes of screen on tme average. I'm always texting on the phone, looking at Instagram, and watching stuff on UA-cam or Dramafever. It only ever has 4 hours of screen on time if I'm using GPS and Bluetooth throughout the day. Still no "lag" after months of using the phone. Love the micro-SD card slot and removable battery, makes road trips more enjoyable as I do not have to worry about running out of juice when going from Dallas, TX to Fort Myers, Florida. And I can store a lot of movies and music on the 64 GB microsd card. 9.3/10 stars.
Watching on my Note 9. Pulled out the Note 3 and 5 the other day to play around with them when i brought my 9 home. Still have my note 7 case too. Someone said they were selling online. Peple buying just the note 7 box is Crazy! Well the 4 was one of the best notes ever. I wish I still had it. My dad still rocks the Note 3 and it runs perfect. The 5 is still one of my favs and when Samsung truly started making a more premium phone. My 7, i fell in love with until Samsung put out an update which only allowed us note 7 owners to charge to 50% battery power. This was how they were able to make us turn them in. Many of us had no heat poblems at all. I tried to keep that 7 as many others did. I hated sending that phone in. Tore me up, it was such a great phone. Happy with the Note 9. Worth the upgrde from any note in my opinion. My ole lady has the 8 and she wants the 9 badly after playing around with mine. Well, my babblin .02 cents for what its worth Anyone remeber the Note Edge? I had that one too. Was released shortly after the 4.

iPhones, and Apple in general, cause people to act very very weird. I'm not talking about the Apple fanboys and those who wait in line for hours on end to buy an iPhone, I'm actually talking about those who have an obsessive hatred of Apple. I have an HTC, I prefer it. The iPhone is good, too, but I'll stick to what I prefer and get on with my life. The only negative I have had with this phone is when I try to send an image or video taken from my Note 4 through text message. The picture quality is so good on the phone that other phones cant handle it so it sends a not very good quality picture. So the downside of the phone is that it is so good, other phones cant handle it lol
Exactly, the pictures I take with my N4 are super good looking and sharp on the phone but when you send them through txts or facebook they get blurry.. But on a computer.. wow!! mind blowing
It's not because phones can't handle the pictures but services like Facebook and Whatsapp reduce the quality to make the files smaller. That way they can preserve storage space and reduce data sent over networks.

It is still good. But to get the best out of it, you need to root it and install custom rom to remove all those bloatware samsung apps that you never use.
Actually depending where you live you'll get Marshmallow that works pretty well even with samsung stuff, touch wiz is not as bad as it was a few years ago, with all the stuff getting material design everything works pretty well
+Senor Grav 100$ more is not worth the minor differences between the two phone's hardware. plus you lose the removable battery, the sd card slot, and you get more fragile frame.

I looked at the Note 4 when I deciding between it and the 6 Plus - I'm coming from an iPhone and was quite happy with it, but I still wanted to at least give the Note 4 a test drive since I'd really love the S-pen for sketching out some basic designs for stuff I do and I like the idea of multi-tasking on screen.. Anyways, I picked the 6 Plus mainly because the Samsung UI is just terrible and it felt so cheap. I thought Android L would save it, but then I read that they're just going to reskin L with their same crappy UI. I only got a 12 month contract on my 6 Plus so I'll revisit it again next year, but seriously Samsung, you're hurting your product with your terrible software.
I'll just add one more note from my limited time testing the Note 3 and the Note 4 - to me, the Note 4 has a much better S-pen, it was quite accurate and is good enough to do some sketches on - not wacom level by any means, but much much better than what you get with a standard nub for something like an iPhone.
I agree that the Touchwiz UI is jarring to the eyes. It's a cruel trade-off since I consider it to be the best, feature-wise. I personally only use Android devices with stock/near-stock UI's. A ROM that kept the touchwiz features but changed the UI to match Holo or material design would go a long ways in perfecting the Note 4.
SacTappingUnicorn I've already bought into both ecosystems, I've had numerous Android tablets over the years so jumping to Android isn't a huge deal - but I personally prefer iOS for phones - but I really do like the S-pen and the multitasking - but the Samsung software just feels/looks so cheap coming from an iPhone. As I said, hopefully over the next year they vastly improve it as I'd have no problem going with a note if it just didn't seem like such a step backwards from a UI standpoint.

I have never seen someone speaking into their phone: WAIT A SECOND GUYS, siri.. please.. send a text message to: jeremy "ill be a little late, can you pick me up? im gonna do thing stonight you cant even imagine :$" yeah great stuff. the pen actually lets you share parts of a screenshot you made or really precise writng or lets you copy a picture from a site and immediatly swype them to your whatsapp or whatever. it's awesome, handy.. note 4 is beautiful!
All these iphone fan boys whining about lag on a phone they've never used are hilarious. Every phone lags a little at some point, including iPhones (I've had 2) to say the note 4 isn't worth getting with everything that it offers simply because it might lag for a half second every once in awhile is ridiculous. If apple products had half the capability of the note 4 they would lag, and probably lag worse because of their 1 gb of ram.
Most phones don't have a removable back anymore (cough cough), and with the ability to add in a micro SD card, Spare battery, etc. This phone has a very premium build , equipped with a good camera, great performance, and a big bright beautiful screen. With the S pen functionality, you can do great things on this phone, IT EVEN HAS A HEADPHONE JACK.
It's likely because the Nexus 6 is what he's hyped for, considering it's the behemoth of the spec market right now (something the note series used to be)
Shayded Yeah sorry to break it to you... but the note 4 is the spec behemoth of the phone market. The nexus 6 also has a worse camera(all nexus are known for bad camera) and an ips display which probably won't compete with the Note 4s super amoled screen (before ips panels were superior but ever since the release of the s5 super amoled panels have outclassed it).
Shayded You do know that the Note 4 has the same specs as the Nexus 6 and sometimes even better..... Nexus 6 only has turbo charging and the flash...... I'm not choosing sides. I'm not sure whether to get the Note 4 or the Nexus 6, but yes the Note is the spec behemoth
Nexus high cost was a let down. I work at at&t and playing with out demo every day has made me fall in love. There are so many features and coupled with an stab series and watch I feel like this is the best Samsung has been since they released the s3. Everyone in Android is doing so well. HTC boomsound and aluminum frame. Lg and their first to best top notch specs and laser auto focus. Apple has a lot of work to do next year to even consider a glance from consumers again.
I guess, it's a great phone from what I'm reading I just haven't touched one yet. I'm hoping they made it great and maybe drop the price a bit. That's what always made them stand out, plus stock Android I mean wow.
Joe Rangel Only the last 2 nexus's were low cost the first three were expensive so it wasn't "always" lower price. They also cut corners with the last two and it showed this one is a no holds Nexus and it shows. The price is justified for what you get especially when compared to devices in the same size and comparable specs since its cheaper or the same cost as most.
I ordered this phone and it is coming tomorrow. I've never used android in my life so I'm kinda excited to try it out and also nervous. I have a few questions however: 1. What is a launcher and how do I get it on my galaxy note 4 because touchwiz looks kinda shit and the one Marques has looks awesome and simple 2. Will this phone last me 2 years 3. Is android difficult to get used of coming over from IOS
1) a launcher is a different "skin" almost. it changes the way the software looks. you can download different launchers from the play store. 2) yes it will most likely last two years. it has many many good reviews from what I hear. 3) it will take a little while to get used to, but it won't take forever :) I'd say about a week or so depending on how often you use your phone :)
Kevlah Mchullough I've got the phone now, I love it. its so fast compared to my iPhone and Android is easy to get used of, its so much better than IOS in my opinion.
well since you asked, to me Nova Launcher is like Google Launcher but more customizable, basically let's say you like some things from one version of Android, and another from another version of Android. It's based off of stock android but more customizable, sorry if that wasn't the best explanation
Despite its age, this will probably be my next phone! I like the idea of being able to replace the battery which it seems impossible to find in a flagship phone these days. At this time I am using a BlackBerry Priv; it's slow but seems to work fine for my needs. I will miss the hidden keyboard though, which is very useful when typing and scrolling the web. It is one of the most comfortable phones to hold up to my ear while talking when extended. It also doubles as a great conversation piece because of the hidden keyboard too! PS: I really enjoy your videos; well well-orchestrated and informative!!

I would be the same way if I did a review on it. From what I've seen it's the exact same phone we've been getting with the exception of some of the S-pen features. I don't think it's him as much as it is the phone.

Still the occasional lag. That's pretty crazy in 2014. 'I've used all the current models of HTC, Sony, Motorola and iphone, and they all run better. It's still the kitchen sink mentality to woo people. To bad half the crap is useless, works part time and slows the phone. It's just like the makers are used cars salesmen using gimmicks. It's a shame. I'll never buy another Samsung. Give me more stock Android please! This is just my opinion , so don't get all but hurt fan boys.
Turn off the Animation Scales and you won't have that lag. A lot of people are starting to figure this out. Also there are speed booster apps out there that make a difference. You can also uninstall or disable the bloatware Samsung has. My GN4 has no lag what so ever other than the recent app card list, which takes a second to open.
I dont get you people. Download apex launcher and youll never have lag again... Your s pen will still work and most of touchwiz will be gone... Samsung makes great hardware and crappy software, mainly touchwiz. Remove half of touchwiz and your phone is seconde vaster than the iPhone. Btwwww watch speedtests on internet, the note 4 is so much faster than the iPhone 6 plus hahahahahah
JD Hopper Definitely. Its an awesome phone. Had mine for a few months now and love it. 1 tip though. if you get it and you upgrade it to lollipop, do a factory reset and it will run smooth as. I had issues with it running like crap after i updated. If you upgrade and it runs ok then dont worry about it.

Bloatwiz... lol. . But its much better now (I have the note 3.. AWSOME). I turn off some of the stuff I dont use from touchwiz and it runs very well. Speaker is good, but even front facing will be only good. With the headphones it is AWSOME. So dont think htc will be any better with those couple of things... its good (my son has an htc) but note just rules on every level.
Rickbearcat What the hell, toned down? Samsung is doing the exact opposite, continually pushing more and more of Android out of their Android devices so they'll easily be able to switch to their proprietary mobile OS "Tizen."

Bricked my note 4 a while ago and got a iPhone 7 plus but I finally was able to get my phone out of boot loop and I gotta say I like Android a lot more. probably going to use the note 4 till the samsung note 8 comes out 🤗😃
Barely three minutes into this review, and it seemed more like a newbie amateur review by an Apple fan trying to seriously critique Android. Lots of misguided assumptions and obsessing over minute things. You're assuming that "metal" = "more durable." I think we have enough years of Apple and HTC products, to show that isn't the case. Then, Marques being baffled at how the Note 4 feels smaller than the IP6+,,, maybe because IT IS, genius! And EVERY comprehensive test on the Note 4's display, has concluded it has "THE most accurate color reproduction of any smartphone." So what are you talking about with over-saturation?? What setting is your display on? My Note 4 doesn't appear over-saturated at all. Glad you mostly praised this awesome phone, but you have to have your shit together when reviewing things!
i took an issue with that comment as well. it's just ignorance. people keep saying metal is better just because it sounds right and everybody else is saying it - but there is no evidence to support this. i'm surprised however that after iPhone 6 ( entirely metal ) was found to be the WEAKEST of all phones tested for bending ( most of which were plastic ) we STILL have otherwise intelligent people parroting the metal is good line.
Unapologetic Geek Compacted metal is definetely more durable than plastic. The problem with the iPhone is that they're so obsessed with thinness and lightness that they shrinked every bit of the phone to the least they could.

Mega2Sniper I haven't had it, but I think the specs plus the 4k-ish screen, plus removable battery, plus SD card slot, plus the S pen, plus all of the other features make it hard to beat. That's just me, but I still lust over it more than any other phone and it came out in 2014, which I think says a lot.

Got the Note4 in 2015, a couple of months after it's release and I LOVED it to bits. Solid build quality and great functionality.
Was hoping to get the Note7 as a replacement but we know how that turned out and now I'm waiting for the Note8. Its been a wonderful 2yr experience with my Note4 and although it may seem quite old now, it still gets the job done for power users like me with software updates and a spare battery to boot.
I'd recommend it to anyone that's on a really low budget but looking to have a great high end phone experience in 2017 since they go for between just $200 and $300 currently.
Just got this phone 2 days ago and I have no problems or dislikes whatsoever. This is my first time owning a Samsung phone and I am incredibly impressed. After owning an iPhone 5 for two years and loving it, I didn't think anything could compete but I was wrong. I love how much customization you get with the note 4. Not to mention the battery life is amazing! If you're worried about the size of this phone, I've never owned anything larger than a 4.1 screen yet holding this phone seemed seamless to me. In the end it all comes down to preference but if you are looking for something that's not an iPhone (which I was) the note 4 will not disappoint. Love this phone so much already. Other girls can have their iphones, I'm sticking with this beast ;)
I actually love the greyscale mode on regular powersaving mode. I never really thought of Black and White in QHD quality, its really pretty.
I was an iPhone fan until I got my note 4, and this has to be the best phone I've ever owned.

Sometimes I like to look back on old tech just to he were we came from. Retro tech was always one of my favorite things to play with. These are not retro, but old enough to look back on and think... wow. We came so far yet we have stayed the same at the same time.
Using a s9 plus now but Note 4 was hands down the most exciting phone I ever owned. It truly changed my life coming from a Galaxy Note 1st Generation before that.
It's 2017 and I just got mine. I'm loving it, highly recommend phone.
My note 4 got damaged this year. This is the best phone samsung ever made . I am still attached to this note more than other samsung devices and also the first phone where I got version update to from lollipop to marshmallow. RIP NOTE 4

There are actual framerate results in there as well. The 4-core CPU is doing very little to help the speed of the Android phone. You aren't one of those people that thinks the on-the-box specs determine the speed, are you? Even an entry level computer org class will teach you otherwise.
The iPhone 6+ also offers more internal storage and almost twice the on-screen battery life.
Don't be so hostile, dude. This Note 4 is absolutely AMAZING, but you don't have to be a goddamn fanboy about it. You can like something different than what other people like.
I was fighting between this and the Nexus 6, but I caved yesterday and got the Note 4. The S Pen was the deciding factor. With the updated 2000 levels of pressure sensitivity, its essentially a 6" Cintiq. And as an artist, that's music to my ears.
I will say, I've been having some issues using Hangouts for SMS. Whenever I'm on WiFi it consistently fails to send text messages. Also, Firefox's performance is pretty poor compared to Chrome and Samsung's browser, which is a shame, because it performed comparatively to Chrome on my Moto G.
Regardless, beastly little (or should I say big) device.
Now all it needs is Lollipop.

My concerns were confirmed in this review. The Exynos Note 4 has roughly half the battery life than the Snapdragon Note 4. Will the battery life improve with a firmware update? I guess that is TBD. Anyway, fantastic review as always.
***** Yes, I'm in Korea. Well, it's not because it can't find the networks. I'm getting about 3 hours of screen time with about 18 hours of standby in Korea on high brightness. I'm still trying to pinpoint the problem but I'm not close to the answer. It can be something in the advanced wifi settings, or maybe some background service for samsung services that only comes preloaded on the korean models, or an LTE module that is required because the processor is not made by qualcomm, or maybe the exynos processor consumes twice the battery even at the lowest frequency. It's probably a combination of those which is why it's so hard to pinpoint.

Guys what are you talking about? Here we have some exynos Note 4 from export,most of them are the N910C model with the almost two years old ericsson modem and they have aproximately 10-15% better battery life than snapdragon model..

the screen-to-body ratio of phones these days gives them considerably more screen real estate compared to phones of 5 years ago, which is why 5.8 inches isn't that big anymore on a phone in modern day standards.

Subscribed! I'm blown away by the way you notice the differences in tiny details compared to previous generations or other phones that the galaxy note 4 has. Or like you even notice that Samsung uses the sharpening filter on their photo app and that it produces weird artifacts in the bokeh which I still know from the Note 2. You're an expert! Really good review! I'm looking forward to seeing your review on the Note 5!
I actually still have this phone in white!! It was a hand-me-down from my dad and it still works up this day. It works perfectly fine, other then the fast draining battery,,but yeah great phone
This thing has a Pulse Oximeter! I'm a nurse and I noticed that it had SPO2 listed in S Health under heart rate . I opened it up and sure enough, it has the ability to measure your blood oxygen saturation! I'll have to test it against one at the hospital when I get a chance.

I used that feature for the first time last night on my Note 4! Had no idea what it was but it was really cool. S Health has been extremely accurate for me. I had some health conditions and the readings I got from S Health using the heart rate monitor and stress monitor, was dead-on! What an amazing piece of technology!
How long before Samsung realizes that if they need to continue to use touchwiz (for whatever reason that may be) they need to rewrite it from the ground up? Had a S3,S4 and Note 3. I use my phones like the everyday user so no rooting. I do like to put on Nova launcher which helps a ton but honestly. If you're putting that much thought into the hardware why not rewrite the software to take advantage?
What on Earth are you whining about? TouchWiz is what makes the Note 4 so great! Without it the S-Pen would be useless. Plus, Samsung is the King of Android, they sell million upon million of devices, so they're not just going to remove TouchWiz because some online nerds prefer stock. if you think the note 4 is good the Sony Xperia Z3 is even better it has a 20.7mp camera dual front speakers PS4 remote play and it has even better battery than the note 4 and its waterproof its also 7.3mm thin almost as thin as the 6.9mm iphone
Rick Galindo that camera sounds nice but all of the other things I don't really care about. I actually hate how thin the iPhone 6 is. I think samsung kept it the perfect size. Anything thinner and I'd be dropping it all the time. But that's just my opinion, I bet it's a great phone for a lot of people
I have the note 4 and it's a great phone. Records unbelievable video in 4k. Has great battery life, beautiful screen, three gigs of memory. What more can you say? It's the best phone out there right now.

I'm using a Galaxy Note 4 today, alongside my iPhone SE ❤ Everything (almost) about this device is up there with newer smartphones, seriously! If anybody is planning to get one now (in 2018), just go for it. This is definitely one of Samsung's best creations in my opinion 😊

The Nexus 6 is pretty much a GPE Note 4. The specs line up nicely.
if that does happen then It would lose all the features of stylus and that's what Note is all about
I'd also want a GPE Note. But the S-Pen, which is the selling point of the Note 4, would probably not work on vanilla Android. So it would become useless on a GPE.

Just received this phone from my dad to use as a media device, he's had it since launch so it's almost going 5 years! The user-removable battery has allowed this phone to live for so long, I hope that feature will come back one day.

I have iPhone 4S and loved my phone. However, I am planning to buy Galaxy Note 4. I am not i pressed with the iPhone 6, I have tested it and used it for a day or so but I feel like Galaxy Note 4 can be my everyday phone plus it has replaceable battery, s-pen which I totally love, specially when writing notes. Plus camera is better. Apps will be the biggest draw back since it is android but I think it is time for me to select Samsung over Apple.
As a previous Samsung galaxy S5 owner, I feel that people who switch won't be impressed. At first, I was impressed with the screen and all of its useless features but then a week later, I realized it's just a smartphone. The screen is WAY over saturated, the app selection is terrible, it's camera is weird, it's build it's disgusting. It's a bad phone, get the iPhone and go to Apple's website and read ask the things about the iPhone 6 and iOS 8. You'll love it.
As soon as you get the N4 get rid of touchwiz.

I'll admit that 90% of the features on the S5 are useless crap, but the Note 4's features are actually useful, like the multi-window and S-Pen stuff. The iPhone 6 Plus has basically no features that take advantage of the huge screen. Not to mention, did you not notice that the build of this phone is hella better than the GS5? So your whole argument is irrelevant.
i was testing Note 4 yesterday and even though i'm huge Apple fan, this phone realy is something more. I never liked phones with this size of display, Note 4 is diferent story. It's not that dificuld to use it with one hand most of the time because of it's grip. This phone is not slippery at all. Hardware is very good and camera is the beast! If you are looking for a quality phone with bigger display and high end specs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the one!
ut the downside of this phone is that you still may have some lag and crashes and OS is not that good

I already bought a new phone (iPhone 5c) for my 2 year contract. I'm thinking of buying this phone straight out ($800-$900). I love apple but this note 4 provides more advantages especially since I can expand the memory using the sd card. I never paid more than $200 for a phone but I might with this one. I write a lot and the s pen seems amazing. The colors, the screen etc ... JUST AWESOME!
If you can wait for the Note 5, which usualy gets released in the fall, the price of the Note 4 should drop significantly.

Still on my note 4! Still loving it. High points and low points from 4 years of owning.
Had geek friends tell me i need a new one, but nothing has broken yet, just one battery replacement (Which you can do because the back clips off) And also gave me a better battery from Anker).
Still fully functional, slightly lagging on screen changes compared to modern rivals but perfectly acceptable.
Camera holds up well in some circumstances. You cant just smash photo and expect it be amazing. But if you set up well, it still takes high quality photos and videos.
All the niche little quirks with sidebars ect are now being used 4 years later.. took me a while apparently!
Perfect viewing UHD footage with its 2k screen.
The CASE is the best part of this phone and should of been in the review. With its windowed mode, it makes it endlessly versatile.
Runs any games I've ever played without fuss or much heat.
New Anker battery still lasts me a day of light use, and most of the day on heavy/moderate use. (But who doesn't have a charger beside them everywhere.)
Did lose its security patch level last year, but every app ive tried has continued to work with no issues.
The only App I'v ever had trouble with was Snapchat being slow.
So. Very good phone. Did not think at the time I would have it this long/it survive!
I love the battery life on this phone, from 100% to 15%, it has 5 hours and 49 minutes of screen on tme average. I'm always texting on the phone, looking at Instagram, and watching stuff on UA-cam or Dramafever. It only ever has 4 hours of screen on time if I'm using GPS and Bluetooth throughout the day. Still no "lag" after months of using the phone. Love the micro-SD card slot and removable battery, makes road trips more enjoyable as I do not have to worry about running out of juice when going from Dallas, TX to Fort Myers, Florida. And I can store a lot of movies and music on the 64 GB microsd card. 9.3/10 stars.

Watching on my Note 9. Pulled out the Note 3 and 5 the other day to play around with them when i brought my 9 home. Still have my note 7 case too. Someone said they were selling online. Peple buying just the note 7 box is Crazy!
Well the 4 was one of the best notes ever. I wish I still had it. My dad still rocks the Note 3 and it runs perfect. The 5 is still one of my favs and when Samsung truly started making a more premium phone. My 7, i fell in love with until Samsung put out an update which only allowed us note 7 owners to charge to 50% battery power. This was how they were able to make us turn them in. Many of us had no heat poblems at all. I tried to keep that 7 as many others did. I hated sending that phone in. Tore me up, it was such a great phone. Happy with the Note 9. Worth the upgrde from any note in my opinion. My ole lady has the 8 and she wants the 9 badly after playing around with mine.

The only negative I have had with this phone is when I try to send an image or video taken from my Note 4 through text message. The picture quality is so good on the phone that other phones cant handle it so it sends a not very good quality picture. So the downside of the phone is that it is so good, other phones cant handle it lol
Exactly, the pictures I take with my N4 are super good looking and sharp on the phone but when you send them through txts or facebook they get blurry.. But on a computer.. wow!! mind blowing
It's not because phones can't handle the pictures but services like Facebook and Whatsapp reduce the quality to make the files smaller. That way they can preserve storage space and reduce data sent over networks.

Is a note 4 worth buying in 2016?
It is still good. But to get the best out of it, you need to root it and install custom rom to remove all those bloatware samsung apps that you never use.

Actually depending where you live you'll get Marshmallow that works pretty well even with samsung stuff, touch wiz is not as bad as it was a few years ago, with all the stuff getting material design everything works pretty well
get a note 5 I think its like 100 bucks more but the phone is great
+Senor Grav 100$ more is not worth the minor differences between the two phone's hardware. plus you lose the removable battery, the sd card slot, and you get more fragile frame.

I looked at the Note 4 when I deciding between it and the 6 Plus - I'm coming from an iPhone and was quite happy with it, but I still wanted to at least give the Note 4 a test drive since I'd really love the S-pen for sketching out some basic designs for stuff I do and I like the idea of multi-tasking on screen.. Anyways, I picked the 6 Plus mainly because the Samsung UI is just terrible and it felt so cheap. I thought Android L would save it, but then I read that they're just going to reskin L with their same crappy UI. I only got a 12 month contract on my 6 Plus so I'll revisit it again next year, but seriously Samsung, you're hurting your product with your terrible software.
I'll just add one more note from my limited time testing the Note 3 and the Note 4 - to me, the Note 4 has a much better S-pen, it was quite accurate and is good enough to do some sketches on - not wacom level by any means, but much much better than what you get with a standard nub for something like an iPhone.
I agree that the Touchwiz UI is jarring to the eyes. It's a cruel trade-off since I consider it to be the best, feature-wise. I personally only use Android devices with stock/near-stock UI's.
A ROM that kept the touchwiz features but changed the UI to match Holo or material design would go a long ways in perfecting the Note 4.
SacTappingUnicorn I've already bought into both ecosystems, I've had numerous Android tablets over the years so jumping to Android isn't a huge deal - but I personally prefer iOS for phones - but I really do like the S-pen and the multitasking - but the Samsung software just feels/looks so cheap coming from an iPhone. As I said, hopefully over the next year they vastly improve it as I'd have no problem going with a note if it just didn't seem like such a step backwards from a UI standpoint.

I have never seen someone speaking into their phone: WAIT A SECOND GUYS, siri.. please.. send a text message to: jeremy "ill be a little late, can you pick me up? im gonna do thing stonight you cant even imagine :$" yeah great stuff. the pen actually lets you share parts of a screenshot you made or really precise writng or lets you copy a picture from a site and immediatly swype them to your whatsapp or whatever. it's awesome, handy.. note 4 is beautiful!

All these iphone fan boys whining about lag on a phone they've never used are hilarious. Every phone lags a little at some point, including iPhones (I've had 2) to say the note 4 isn't worth getting with everything that it offers simply because it might lag for a half second every once in awhile is ridiculous. If apple products had half the capability of the note 4 they would lag, and probably lag worse because of their 1 gb of ram.
That's what I'm saying. iPhones do lag so much when you update the iOS version. I know cuz I had the 4 and 5s

Most phones don't have a removable back anymore (cough cough), and with the ability to add in a micro SD card, Spare battery, etc. This phone has a very premium build , equipped with a good camera, great performance, and a big bright beautiful screen. With the S pen functionality, you can do great things on this phone, IT EVEN HAS A HEADPHONE JACK.

Not sure if it's just me, but you didn't seem very enthused about this phone.
It's likely because the Nexus 6 is what he's hyped for, considering it's the behemoth of the spec market right now (something the note series used to be)
I agree with him touch wiz is bloated and lags sometimes but that's what reviews are for not to be a fanboy and glorify the product.

Shayded Yeah sorry to break it to you... but the note 4 is the spec behemoth of the phone market. The nexus 6 also has a worse camera(all nexus are known for bad camera) and an ips display which probably won't compete with the Note 4s super amoled screen (before ips panels were superior but ever since the release of the s5 super amoled panels have outclassed it).

Nexus high cost was a let down. I work at at&t and playing with out demo every day has made me fall in love. There are so many features and coupled with an stab series and watch I feel like this is the best Samsung has been since they released the s3. Everyone in Android is doing so well. HTC boomsound and aluminum frame. Lg and their first to best top notch specs and laser auto focus. Apple has a lot of work to do next year to even consider a glance from consumers again.

Joe Rangel Only the last 2 nexus's were low cost the first three were expensive so it wasn't "always" lower price. They also cut corners with the last two and it showed this one is a no holds Nexus and it shows. The price is justified for what you get especially when compared to devices in the same size and comparable specs since its cheaper or the same cost as most.

I've never used android in my life so I'm kinda excited to try it out and also nervous.
I have a few questions however:
1. What is a launcher and how do I get it on my galaxy note 4 because touchwiz looks kinda shit and the one Marques has looks awesome and simple
2. Will this phone last me 2 years
3. Is android difficult to get used of coming over from IOS
1) a launcher is a different "skin" almost. it changes the way the software looks. you can download different launchers from the play store.
2) yes it will most likely last two years. it has many many good reviews from what I hear.
3) it will take a little while to get used to, but it won't take forever :) I'd say about a week or so depending on how often you use your phone :)
Kevlah Mchullough I've got the phone now, I love it. its so fast compared to my iPhone and Android is easy to get used of, its so much better than IOS in my opinion.

Despite its age, this will probably be my next phone! I like the idea of being able to replace the battery which it seems impossible to find in a flagship phone these days. At this time I am using a BlackBerry Priv; it's slow but seems to work fine for my needs. I will miss the hidden keyboard though, which is very useful when typing and scrolling the web. It is one of the most comfortable phones to hold up to my ear while talking when extended. It also doubles as a great conversation piece because of the hidden keyboard too! PS: I really enjoy your videos; well well-orchestrated and informative!!

Still the occasional lag. That's pretty crazy in 2014. 'I've used all the current models of HTC, Sony, Motorola and iphone, and they all run better. It's still the kitchen sink mentality to woo people. To bad half the crap is useless, works part time and slows the phone. It's just like the makers are used cars salesmen using gimmicks. It's a shame. I'll never buy another Samsung. Give me more stock Android please! This is just my opinion , so don't get all but hurt fan boys.

Turn off the Animation Scales and you won't have that lag. A lot of people are starting to figure this out. Also there are speed booster apps out there that make a difference. You can also uninstall or disable the bloatware Samsung has. My GN4 has no lag what so ever other than the recent app card list, which takes a second to open.
Sony Xperia SP is horrible, absolutely horrible. Give me the most basic Samsung over the upgrade I currently have.
I dont get you people. Download apex launcher and youll never have lag again... Your s pen will still work and most of touchwiz will be gone... Samsung makes great hardware and crappy software, mainly touchwiz. Remove half of touchwiz and your phone is seconde vaster than the iPhone. JD Hopper Definitely. Its an awesome phone. Had mine for a few months now and love it. 1 tip though. if you get it and you upgrade it to lollipop, do a factory reset and it will run smooth as. I had issues with it running like crap after i updated. If you upgrade and it runs ok then dont worry about it.

TouchWiz has been toned down on this phone.
Bloatwiz... lol. . But its much better now (I have the note 3.. AWSOME). I turn off some of the stuff I dont use from touchwiz and it runs very well. Speaker is good, but even front facing will be only good. With the headphones it is AWSOME. So dont think htc will be any better with those couple of things... its good (my son has an htc) but note just rules on every level.

Barely three minutes into this review, and it seemed more like a newbie amateur review by an Apple fan trying to seriously critique Android. Lots of misguided assumptions and obsessing over minute things. You're assuming that "metal" = "more durable." I think we have enough years of Apple and HTC products, to show that isn't the case.
Then, Marques being baffled at how the Note 4 feels smaller than the IP6+,,, maybe because IT IS, genius!
And EVERY comprehensive test on the Note 4's display, has concluded it has "THE most accurate color reproduction of any smartphone." So what are you talking about with over-saturation?? What setting is your display on? My Note 4 doesn't appear over-saturated at all.

i took an issue with that comment as well. it's just ignorance. people keep saying metal is better just because it sounds right and everybody else is saying it - but there is no evidence to support this. i'm surprised however that after iPhone 6 ( entirely metal ) was found to be the WEAKEST of all phones tested for bending ( most of which were plastic ) we STILL have otherwise intelligent people parroting the metal is good line.

Unapologetic Geek Compacted metal is definetely more durable than plastic. The problem with the iPhone is that they're so obsessed with thinness and lightness that they shrinked every bit of the phone to the least they could.
