The free plans are in the description below.
The coolest thing about this jig is its ability to achieve 60 degree angles on the miter saw so the end grain is hidden, unlike the 30 degree boards.
This section makes sure the overlaps are spaced the same and the nails are hidden on the interior.
These boards are used as bracing so you can easily nail the top boards together, while keeping your hand toes at a safe distance.
These two are the original trees I made last year, and then when I was on Pinterest I found this adorable baby one and just had to add him to the family. He is a shorter version of the middle tree, so I can still make all three using the same jig.
If you are only wanting a few trees to give as gifts, their will be a video recommendation at the end where I build these trees without the jig.
First, find a board that is at least two feet long and cut two 30 degree miters at the end, it should look kind of like a pencil. I rounded the edges of my jig because my belt sander was a new toy in the garage at the time.
Measure in about 3/4 inch and score a line down the right side. And get two pieces of scrap, about ¾ x 3/4 , 6 inches long and secure them on the line, this space does a few things; it gives your consistent cuts, it keeps everything square, it allows you to hold the workpieces and use the saw safely, as most miter saws controls are done with your right hand, and it reduces the chance of movement or kickback. You can also clamp down your workpiece, if desired.
Then, download these plans. I use ½” stock material from the big box stores, this jig can be used for any size tree, however, this area where I nail the sides, is constructed from 1/2” material, so 3/4” material cannot be used in this section.
I use my jig to align my miter blade using the base, lock your blade angle, and secure the jig using a clamp. The jig does not have to be up against your saw blade, mine is usually a quarter inch from my blade, this way my jig doesn’t get marred up. - Навчання та стиль
If I could give a million likes for the low volume saw I would! My overly sensitive ears are grateful ❤
🤣 thanks! For real though, I was looking up information about a dewalt planer and i clicked on a video, which started with the planer! running a board through and it was FULL blast planer noise. Lolol, almost killed me :P
He deserves so many more subscribers
I agree! This is a cool jig. Fine young Man! I wish him well
Thanks guys! It means a lot :P I did throw together some Jig plans :)

Anytime buddy!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for the comment! I did add some printable Jig Plans :)

Grwat video mate! Your air nailer tip is correct. The nail is thinner metal from top to bottom, which makes it prone to bending up and down 👍
I'm gonna whip ip this jig over the weekend a batch a few out!
Heck yeah! Be careful, these trees are addicting ;)
Great simple and explained video and plans and jig.
Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
I'll be making them tomorrow
Nice,,,, glad came across your channel,,, got a new subscriber,,,,, will be looking to other stuff you do

Hand toes!! 😂😂 Yess! Nice job!
HAND TOES! 🤣

PS the thing with the nailer IS RIGHT ON , I’ve done the shooting out the side thing , 😳thankfully all the fingers are still working
Your emoji game is on ☝️(point!). Glad you enjoyed the video :) the nailer trick is the best! Couldnt keep that nugget to myself

Nice comment! :D glad you liked it :)
Thank you for the nail gun info!
Thank you for the comment! :) It hasnt let me down yet
9:24 Thank you for saying this, that nails bend up or down! So many other channels claim they bend left and right, but you can look at the nail and see they're all glued together in a stack on their flat sides. If it bent side to side, it would somehow be doing so through its thicker width. A tape measure bends up and down. Saying it could bend side to side would be silly.
Oooo I like the tape measure example! Thanks buddy
I believe this is wrong and I hope he pins a correction about nail bending. The nails bed in the direction of the bevel, meaning they will bend side to side (0 degrees to the nail stack and gun direction). I have seen too many ER trips with finishers having a nail put through their finger as it exited the side of the work piece due to holding the nailer incorrectly.
@@themikeham It depends on the cross-sectional shape of the nail. Ones that are round or square, yes the chisel point will determine deflection direction. However, if they are the flat type of brad nails, stacked flat on top of each other like boards, the chisel point will not be able to deflect the nail through its thicker mass. Imagine a stack of knife blades, where they're perhaps 1/8" thick and 1" wide, but with a point. Even though the point would say it'll bend left and right, that's through the 1" width. It'll bend up and down, bending the 1/8" thickness, even though that's not the direction of the point. Or imagine the tape measure I mentioned earlier. Even if you cut the end at 2 45-degree angles to make a point, that will not cause the tape measure to bend side to side, it'll still bend up and down. So, it depends on the cross section of the nail you're using, whether the chisel point will be enough to overcome the thicker mass.
First time on your channel. The UA-cam algo is working today. Good video. Thanks for the plans. I started milling up some scraps already.
Heck yeah! Glad you stopped by ;) have fun building some trees!!
I love this guy. "The Osha manual will explode" LOL

Great video thanks so much for all your hard work! Ooooooh and I am excited to try that nailer trick have not heard that before and dang is that frustrating when it comes shooting out the side!
Sweet! Give that nailer trick a try! I did update the description to include Jig plans. Thanks for the comment :)

@@WhosTheVoss and the nailer tip. Worth the price of admission!
Another great build and video! I, like others, would like to see a jig build video for this jig!
Thanks buddy! I updated the description to include some Jig plans, its best to build the trees and then set up the jig so they are all the same, and nest property :)

Who is this handsome man?

Great video I subscribed and liked. I was wondering if you could share your measurements for your tree necklace I think that is very cool
I dont have the measurements but heres a printable PDF of the little guy :)
docdro.id/8AILkBK
Thank you
I really love the idea and the way you describe the stuff in your videos. And your plans are great to have. As I'm a metric guy, I struggle a bit with the dimensions of the wood. I'm trying to figure out what to buy over here in Germany. You wrote on your pdf file: I buy 1/2" x 2" x 4", but I guess you meant 1/2 in x 2 in x 4 ft, right? And to make it worse - nominal vs actual size - the real dimensions are 7/16 in x 1 1/2 in (11mm x 38mm), right?
Nice catch! Yeah, I meant 4 foot boards. :) lumber is a bit confusing for the sizes since they are not the measurements they are listed :P maybe Ill have to do a build using metric, that sounds interesting ;)
👍
Thanks :)
Love the video... question about the plans for the base board plan. What is the difference between the large and the small tree top spaces, other than the length? Why?
The large one is longer because the sides for the large tree are longer, and the mark is where I line up the last side board. Thats the only reason its longer that the other :)
48 Nails for all three trees
You could shoot 4 extra nails into the bases :) good guess!
The reason it shoots to the side, is because the tip of the nail is pointed and that angle from being pointed causes it to push through the wood and bend sometimes.
Sneaky little nails!
Like your joke you got on your plans. 😂😂😂😂😂
FINALLY some recognition. Lol, glad you liked it :)
From what I've read/been told, blowout will occur in the direction opposite of the taper of the nail, if that make sense.
That does make sense, ohhh silly little air nailers. Lol Thanks for the comment :)
What pressure do you have your nail gun set to, I have the same one? I’m new to wood working and for this project I struggle to consistently set the nails flush….great video. I liked and subscribed
I have my psi set to 95. Unless it something really soft/pourous like cedar, then I turn it down. Most nailers operate between 70-120 psi :)
👍💯👍😊💯
👻🤣💩🍕🤷 !! I added printable Jig plans as well
docdro.id/DJ8HVoP
Great video! Do you sand before or after assembly or maybe in between assembly?
I only sand the faces on the benchtop belt sander after assembly so they are smooth
Thanks! Are all three of the trees supposed to nest within each other or only one?
The tiny adorable one does not nest aith the set, I added him this year to the two-besting trees :)
will the plans work for 1x2x8s?
Hey buddy! These plans only work for 1/2" material. I have a tutorial on how to make one of these trees (non nesting) from 1" material as well. You can tweek the interior size tree so they will work with your 1x2x8 material and still nest properly :)
What size brad nailer are you using and nails??
It's an 18 gauge 3/4" brad nail :)
Thank you very much. Merry Christmas 🎅
Great job, thank you so much.
Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it :)
What are the measurements for the trees on the necklace.
I do not have the measurements for the necklace tree, but I scanned its size into a printable PDF :)

Thank You
Could you make plans for the jig?
Yes please!! It would help me get a better visual to make one. I could probably try to figure it out, but plans would be nice.
docdro.id/DJ8HVoP
Here ya go :)
@@WhosTheVoss thank you so much!
Will the nesting trees still work if you use 30 degree angles instead of the 60?
Sure will, you just need to adjust the two top boards :)
@@WhosTheVoss thank you
Are all three trees supposed to nest together? I completed the plans and the really small tree does not fit into the small tree but the small tree fits into the big tree.
You nailed the project (literally). Unfortunately the adorable baby tree does not nest in the set, I added it on this year
great video but when i set my boards onto the plans, the plans are not to scale, or am I missing something?
when I use my tape measure on the plans the dimensions are not as written?
You should be able to download the PDF and print it as a full sheet on 8.5x11" paper. Otherwisd, as long as the format is the same for each diagram they will still nest together :)
I thought that’s what I did but I will double check it, thanks.
I’m trying to figure out how to upload a picture to show you the dimensions that I measured on the diagram.
I figured it out, I had printed it from youtube without downloading it to PDF, once I did that it worked perfectly. Thank you for your help and really love what you do and your knowledge and willingness to help others, keep the videos coming
The link in the description fails in my browser. Is there a link with the plans for the jig and your trees?
It is written out in the descriptionn, below the link.

What is the overlap measurement
13/16ths is what they measure, if you click "more" under the video, the free printable plans are included :)
Sorry, where do I get the free plan

This is weird , I just recently discovered the sound of them , I was using them on a roof and I accidentally dropped one and it made a beautiful sound , after that I got all them out and I discovered they do sound all different. Today this video showed up on UA-cam 🤔. Very weird lol
🤣🤣 Thats crazy! Spread the word, we could start a band!

Where is the plans
Click "more" under the video, and the link is listed in the description :)
You cut your ending off a bit short. 😅
But good video
Its intentional :P nobody watches them anyways lol :)
@@WhosTheVossI wondered if it was intentionally “endless” 😂😂 love it 🤣
It has to do with the edge cut on the nails.
Thanks buddy :)
Excellent. Are you in Engineering school, yet? "upstairs" workers ALWAYS make more money than "downstairs" workers in a Big Shop and(for rapid advancement) that means getting an engineering degree OR a hostile take-over of the cafeteria(which happens to be upstairs, most of the time.), which I DO NOT recommend since it is dangerous and illegal. Please, continue thinking, creating and making these videos as they serve to quench my general thirst for any evidence that men are still men.
I meann, I took drafting in high school. I did create all the plans to build our home (garage and house, all plumbing and wiring diagrams) before building it with my wife. Although it was overwhelming at times, it was a fun experience. We also did 100% of the work ourselves :)
@@WhosTheVoss nice. If you do go to get a degree, remember- bringing actual knowledge into a "higher learning" environment is always hugely amusing and video worthy. Please, be nice to(and don't feed) the teachers. I'm inspired. Thanks
Your plans don't work with using 1-by material, (which is actually 3/4 inch stock) Can't buy material that is 1/2 inch. The angle at the top is wrong for 3/4 inch stock.
Nope, the plans are only for 1/2" material. As for the top angle, 60 degrees cut from both equally, or a butted 30 degree angle is most common for any thickness material, you just need to adjust the lengths so the middle boards do not touch for thicker boards :)
