I hope you enjoy this video guide to Salem, Massachusetts. For some reason, the section on the John Ward House got deleted in the edit? (That’s worth visiting too). Other than that, I hope you found this video travel guide helpful. Be sure to share, and subscribe for more like this.
Was there for a day last month, the streets were full of visitors and vendors in their tents with lots of handmade goodies, and lots of famous spooky movie characters walking around, for the October festival. We took a walking tour which was great that ended in the memorial to all those who were killed. Very moving. But all around it was festivities and fun. Queues out the door for every shop and restaurant, but they moved quick enough. Such unique shops. I picked up a bunch of books own the witch trials. Such a quaint beautiful town, steeped in history. The houses were to die for, lol. Need more time to visit all the museums next trip. They do get millions of visitors in October, literally. But it's worth it.
Yes, I agree! Even with the October crowds it's still worth visiting just to experience the quaintness, the museums, the spooky stuff and the party atmosphere. A lot of locals try and dissuade people from coming to Salem near Halloween, and I totally understand why - traffic, crowds etc. But if that stuff doesn't bother you, it's definitely worth exploring. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
This is one of the best vids within the top 10 Salem vids I've seen so far. I would add Salem is dog friendly and recycle friendly and accepting of all. The trolley should be one of the first things you do, 1 its one of the best tours and it travels the heritage trail of Salem. Halloween is suggested in this vid however I cannot suggest it unless Your heart is really set on halloween. A few reasons pro: parade, events, haunted happenings salem a night pioneer village and witches ball Cons: over a Mill. people so very crowded and long lines, includes restaurants, higher prices and cant get to everything you plan for because of such reasons. Last plan everything in advance including hotel and areas planning to visit for fun, drinks, eat, historical etc. Planing a hotel and flight combo and planning the trip a half year to full year in advance will save a ton of money. FYI Salem is just as much fun in the summer and early fall too still as spooky with a fewer less decorated houses and long lines.
I appreciate that, thanks! A lot of people discourage coming here for Halloween - and I understand why. That said; it's kinda like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, or the Stampede in Calgary - even though it's horrendously busy, it's one of those things that you have to do if you like Halloween. And yes, planning is key for enjoying this place - hence why I make the videos that I do. Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Yes I agree! It's a beautiful town, very much underrated in terms of buildings and architecture. I think they overdid it with the spooky stuff, but I suppose that's what brings in the visitors? Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
That's not a bad idea! 😉 It really is a laid-back town, the people are super nice and it's pretty easy to navigate around. Not too far from Boston either. I wish you luck in your new peaceful life! 🙂
Looking at going to salem nxt year for October, very helpful video on salem. Time to start planning my trip for Halloween in America from Ireland. Thanks for great info
You're welcome! I'm happy you found this video guide to Salem useful. Just about finishing my Boston travel guide and I highly recommend that you tie-in your trip to Salem with a visit to Boston. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks! I'm definitely working on it, but these things take forever to edit. (I wish they didn't). I think if I wanted to be less helpful and be like those 'Top 10' videos, I could crank these out a lot faster.
Only go in October. Thats when Salem is actually worth visiting. Id advise to only go if youre in New England. Its gonna be underwhelming if you come from any farther than that. Generally anytime in October shit is popping off. The whole city basically becomes a circus. Lots of people in costume. Parking is going to be a little difficult. Id advise to go park at the train station. Theres usually at least some space and its walking distance from all the attractions. Go walk down the town square, maybe go see a haunted house, go to some bars. Salem has a lot of really great restaurants. Definitely the best restaurants in the north shore. I always liked going to Bambolina or the howling wolf. Bit bar is also a really cool place to eat and have a drink. They have a really cool arcade there and I always enjoyed going. If you like arcades, Salem Willows is also a fun place a little outside the main city.
Yes, good tips. I think it's like anywhere that's famous for a few days (St Patrick's in Boston, Mardi Gras in New Orleans), it's crowded, extremely busy and you wonder whether it's worth it. But I suppose you have to do these things once in your life.
I love Salem! Worth going to visit especially in October! I left flowers on the memorial for Giles Corey because I found that he was my 9th great-grandfather just before leaving New Mexico and wanted to honor his memory! His first wife Mary Corey is buried in the cemetery located right by the memorial before the witch trials started.
@@UltimateBucketList Yes to both statements. In 2015 I took my daughter and grandson to Salem in October and we all pad our respects as some of his 9th, 10th and 11th great-grand children placed flowers on his memorial stone. The witch trials take on a different meaning when you realize that one of your family was a victim. I have always been interested in Salem, but it is different when you find out your family was accused. If at all possible go to Salem in October you won’t forget it!
I was surprised that it was so laid back. I had a feeling that it would be a sleepy town, and it's certainly very quaint and stereotypical. It's definitely worth a day to explore if you're coming to Boston.
We are about to visit. So exiting but it gets me so frustrated that seems locals don’t want tourists to go. Every group on facebook that I am there’s always some local telling not to come, that it’s just a scam. The horrible traffic in oct. so on, So sad.
Yes, I agree. I found it to be an incredibly pleasant town to visit, but quite a lot of locals have commented on this video discouraging people from visiting in October. I kinda understand why they would; it makes traffic terrible and tourists sometimes aren't the most respectful visitors. That said, the city benefits from the tourist tax dollars and money being pumped into the local economy. Dual edged sword I guess. I hope you found this guide helpful - enjoy your trip to Salem!
This was shot back in March, but the best time to go would be right about now until just after Halloween. If you're planning on seeing this place for yourself, now's the time! 😉
I've been to Amsterdam many times. I've yet to film it for UA-cam. I'm sure if I get around to it, I'll probs do an Ajax tour. The Stadium Tours videos are dying a horrible death though, so there's not much incentive to make more.
There's definitely an element of the city cashing in on it's notoriety. I met a woman who was born in Salem, who tells me that it never used to be like this. That it used to be better without all the witch themed stuff everywhere. Saying that - it's still a very pleasant town to visit, though I understand why residents hate it in October!
Depends how you look at it? If you don't like crowds, traffic and tourists - you may indeed be right. It's the same as Mardi Gras in New Orleans or St Patrick's Day in Boston - horribly crowded, but still fun.

Hi Ninh, great to see the history of Salem in the video.
I was surprised that it was so laid back. I had a feeling that it would be a sleepy town, and it's certainly very quaint and stereotypical. It's definitely worth a day to explore if you're coming to Boston.
Love this
Thank you very much!
I have never watched videos on Salem. Two weeks ago I just started watching videos about Salem…then you post this video. Very coincidental hahaha
Very co-incidental indeed!
Can you start watching videos on winning the lottery, so that I can make a video about me winning the lottery too?! 😆
There’s a bunch of them
Always wanted to go
I hope you do one day!
It's a quaint charming little city - definitely laid-back and fun time vibes in this place 🙂
Urban slum

I might have already pissed off several witches, and I'm sadly still a human.
Life as a toad would be so much easier. There's less taxes to pay.

Salem is a good p,ave to visit in July. Avoid it in October
The only thing you’re wrong about is that Halloween is actually the worst time of year to visit Salem, or October in general
Depends how you look at it? If you don't like crowds, traffic and tourists - you may indeed be right.
It's the same as Mardi Gras in New Orleans or St Patrick's Day in Boston - horribly crowded, but still fun.

@@henryramos4334 they’re wrong. Most of the people I know know to avoid Salem this time of year
Salem is strange would not recommend visiting and crime is always there. you have to keep walking ignore some of crowds
I didn't find it to be all that strange to be honest.
I mean sure; there's a lot of weird stuff around - but at no point did I ever feel unsafe here.
