My ex girlfriend was from Oslo, her family lived in the Western Districts of Oslo, and those neighbourhoods are well worth a visit. There are some very beautiful houses and some cool neighbourhoods, although it is very wealthy but really nice to visit.
Oh nice! I never went to the west districts of the city other than to see the Folk museum and the attractions around there. I'm sure if I go again, I'll be sure to walk around some of the neighbourhoods there. Thanks for the advice!
Very nice, just a couple of corrections to avoid confusion or disappointment. Not the first King of Norway. It is Haakon VII, Queen Maud and their son Olav V and his wife Crown Princess Märtha. First king of Norway was arguably Harald Fairhair (Old Norse: Haraldr Hárfagri) (c. 850 - c. 932). Been awesome to know where he ended up, but he isn’t in Akershus Castle. Btw, that isn’t St. Olav church (the catholic church), it’s smaller and a bit further up the same street, that is Vår Frelsers Kirke (Our Saviors Church). Lompe is soft bread made with potato flour. Love love love it 😊 The Vigeland Museum is next to the Vigeland Park (Frogner parken), it is not on Bygdøy. Vikingship museum will probably not open until 2027. Remember that the ferry to Bygdøy does not accept the regular public transport tickets but they accept the Oslo Pass. On the island of Heggholmen is the Heggholmen fyr, it is not a church, but a tiny lighthouse with a bell they used to ring in fog and so on. My grandfather worked on that island until 1940 for the Lilleborg soap factory. The 24 hour or 7 day public transport ticket is also very nice if you don’t plan on going to that many museums. I've been living in Oslo for three years and even I discovered a thing or two while watching this video. Everything was nicely put together and you covered all the basics, great job! Edit: the one thing I forgot to suggest to people coming here is that the bullet train (Flytoget) is indeed the fastest way to get to/from the airport, but the regular trains cost about half the price and only take around 10min longer. A small tip for those traveling on a budget :-)

Visited Oslo back in 2010 (I think), great city and yes expensive (but so is Dublin). Have a few tentative plans to visit the Scandinavian countries next year, haven’t been to Denmark or Sweden yet! Great video as always. If you are looking for a recommendation, you’ve probably been to Amsterdam but if you go a little further and get a train to Groningen you won’t be disappointed! Really funky!

When you visit Athens make sure you go to the Presidential Mansion, you can’t go inside but there is the changing of the guard and the garden of the mansion which you can visit.

Yes, I've done some natural attractions before (like Grand Canyon & Red Rock Canyon) and I plan to do a video about the Lakes and the NC500 etc. Not sure about the silent hiking, it's really not my style - but it's definitely something I need to do more of.
The best way to travel to Oslo from Torp Airport is by train. Shuttlebus down to the station with the same name, and a 1.5 hour train ride to Oslo. From Gardermoen travelling with Vy is about half the price of Flytoget, and takes less than a minute more.
As mentioned in the video, the price depends on how many days you want it for? Refer to the Oslo Pass website for the exact price for your circumstances. Cheap hotels are rare in Oslo, but if you can stay at the K7 for a decent price, it comes recommended.
What's Norwegian for "Oh, Cock!"? (I know, it's the wrong part of Norway, but I couldn't help but think of that classic "Top Gear" moment when I heard you did a video on Oslo.)
Ah yes, the Norway episode! I think that most of those are staged and edited for cinematic purposes, but in the old days of Top Gear, it was at least believable. It wasn't anywhere near as pre-meditated as what the Grand Tour is now, which is borderline unwatchable, cringeworthy and predictable.
@@UltimateBucketList Narvesen, 7-Eleven and Deli De Luca are the three main convenience kiosk chains in Norway, and they are bloody expensive! Typical groceries are double price compared to supermarkets. It is actually a robbery, and people only buy groceries there when supermarkets are closed and they are desperate.. HOWEVER, they often have have ok deals for Hot dogs, pizza and different bakeries.

I do fly drones for work and when I travel, but I didn't have one on this trip to Oslo - so I used stock footage instead.
