This was impressively dumb, but not for the reasons people think (and not nearly as dumb as most of the comments on this video.) The batteries in EVs are 100% sealed from water because they CONTAIN liquid. If they weren't sealed, the liquid electrolyte would leak out (obviously). And it would take a lot more than driving through a couple of feet of water to damage an EV battery. These batteries are designed to be extremely difficult to damage, rupture or puncture. The motors and other high voltage systems are similarly sealed, but they're not 100% "waterproof." EVs are generally able to withstand driving through water than gasoline-powered vehicles, but they're not boats. They're not waterproof. If the water is deeper than the rocker panel (the part of the car body under the door) you should not drive through it, regardless of vehicle type. And statistically, EVs are the least likely of all vehicles to catch fire.
The battery seals aren't designed for these kind of pressures though, so you could very well rupture the seal or one of the pressure relief valves and get water ingress in the pack. It's a bad idea to try this.
@@logitech4873 what kind of "pressures" do you think are being generated. It's a few feet of standing water. It's not very deep and the car is cutting a channel through it. It's unlikely the water pressure would be more than what the pack would have to withstand in a collision, and Tesla batteries are incredibly strong. In fact they're the strongest part of the vehicle besides the frame. Tesla's are statistically the safest vehicles on the road.
@@ericakensho7780 Consistent pressure inside every possible crevice that the water can get into. Standing water is much more dangerous than sprays because of this, which is why floods ruin cars. The seals are not designed for this use case, so don't do it. If you don't believe me, call Tesla and ask them.
@@logitech4873 you may note that in my original post I wrote that if the water is deep enough to touch the rocker panels, a person shouldn't drive through it (regardless of vehicle type.) I simply maintain that EVs can handle deeper water than ICE vehicles. I don't recommend doing what this driver did.
I guess, once in water, driving as quick as possible thru it was the best thing to do. There may be some damage or not, probably not if it was quick enough. Water needs its time to overcome seals.
Salt water corrosion; Once Corrosion starts it doesn't stop, it will progress unless someone finds it and removes the corrosive agents. If you are unaware of the corrosion - for example it may leack inside your battery pack; then; it is a matter of time before the battery catches fire. For those unfamiliar, a petrol vehicle can have a snorkel attached to the air intake and you could fjord a deep river; this is done frequently with military tanks and civilian cross country vehicles.

Even long distance driving costs me nothing in 'fuel', sure beats pumping gas, ymmv.
He must of had the upgrade
How to get a deadly electric shock wtf
Turns out electricity and water do mix.
This was impressively dumb, but not for the reasons people think (and not nearly as dumb as most of the comments on this video.)
The batteries in EVs are 100% sealed from water because they CONTAIN liquid. If they weren't sealed, the liquid electrolyte would leak out (obviously). And it would take a lot more than driving through a couple of feet of water to damage an EV battery. These batteries are designed to be extremely difficult to damage, rupture or puncture. The motors and other high voltage systems are similarly sealed, but they're not 100% "waterproof."
EVs are generally able to withstand driving through water than gasoline-powered vehicles, but they're not boats.
@@logitech4873 you may note that in my original post I wrote that if the water is deep enough to touch the rocker panels, a person shouldn't drive through it (regardless of vehicle type.)
I simply maintain that EVs can handle deeper water than ICE vehicles. I don't recommend doing what this driver did.
Because sea water going into your cabin is great for the car ! 😂😂😂😂
He definitely wants to get out of the car payment lol
I guess, once in water, driving as quick as possible thru it was the best thing to do. There may be some damage or not, probably not if it was quick enough. Water needs its time to overcome seals.
I its is speed on any car speed push the water away before it fully comes back, if it was sand mud on snow would of gone stuck
Corrosion will takes it tole in the near future. I don't think this driver planed on keeping this car for long.
25 minutes later it self combusts
Salt water corrosion; Once Corrosion starts it doesn't stop, it will progress unless someone finds it and removes the corrosive agents. If you are unaware of the corrosion - for example it may leack inside your battery pack; then; it is a matter of time before the battery catches fire. For those unfamiliar, a petrol vehicle can have a snorkel attached to the air intake and you could fjord a deep river; this is done frequently with military tanks and civilian cross country vehicles.
What are you talking about!? It rains saltwater 😂😂
@@lynellsmith2898 Oh do you live near some coal burning plants? You don't want to have an EV then.
@@lynellsmith2898 How do you know what sort of water that is; in many areas that flood; you get storm surge from the ocean which is saltwater. Most flooding in the Florida and eastern coastal towns is saltwater.
@@litestuffllc7249. Ummm hmmm, idk because i actually live here lol! We dont get much rain so our drainage system sucks. Plus were surrounded by hills and canyons, so were susceptible to flooding as most of our houses are bottom of hills
@@QuinyLooo im not triggered! Im merely stating a fact! Rain water or run offs, doesnt create salt water as he mentioned salt corrosions. Most salt corrosions occurs when city lays out salt on roads during snow seasons,
Tesla strong 💪
Ahora lo detiene y el auto no parte mas cualquier suv hace eso dedpues vienen las conseciencias
Activated Karen anger. Impressive Tesla ad.
No way did Tesla stage this. Just some Tesla driver knowing he could do this without any consequences to the car.
Follow it home...sputters all the way home...😮
I won't tell you that you can't follow someone; I'll just say you could lose a lot of friends and or get in a lot of trouble if you choose to follow a person.
EVs don't sputter, lol.
I would never buy a bug
They are a p o junk
I am not talking about the classic vw from the 50'z to 70'z
Testlake
Good commercial for that car 😊
The Haters Will Always Hate!!!!
Tesla model boat
I think it had no value to the owner. You can't sell this junk anyways.
Tesla is highest quality, amazing 🥰
Don't be careless.
I love Tesla's car
Everyone scared of buying an ev because of water...PLEASEEEE. here's a reality check courtesy of Tesla!!!
Later on the electric problems
@@daboogieman1up - I've been driving a Tesla for 4 years, runs great, zero maintenance, I get a free OTA software update every 4-5 weeks without fail, keeps making my EV better each time, bet that does not happen to your car. Some people actually drive cars that need oil changes and tuneups, yikes, not me.
@@theguy455because you are a soft little snowflake..
I'm surprised @whistlindiesel hasn't tested the submersible properties of a Tesla yet.
That owner is going to be crying when his car is totaled because of water damage. I’m surprised it made it all the way through because some aren’t charging from the cold her weather lol.
They aren't charging caustic of the port STATIONS not the battery
Not much colder weather in San Diego.
