FYI, the other sensor that was slightly unclipped is the MAP sensor. I only know this because I swapped it out yesterday on my van which only slightly fixed my issue... which made me think it was the TPS... which brought me to this video. Thanks for the clear video.

@@complyvoluntarily I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that it was the fuel filter. I thought I had already changed the filter but I had changed it on a different van a couple months before. Decided to at least check it because it's so easily accessible, and sure enough it was clogged up with a brown gassy rusty sludge. Probably had never been changed in the 1989 van. Running great now. I'm still glad I changed everything else, though.

I’m looking at replacing this sensor but I got a different type of sensor (round connector with 3 pins) when I ordered my idle control valve . I can’t seem to find this specific one with that prong type connector .

If you think your truck is idling too high try adjusting the throttle position sensor those older style sensors are adjustable if you notice it has a small lever that moves back and forth if you loosen up the two screws you can move the sensor to adjust it at the idle you're most comfortable with

@@firearmconvention946 this is late but if it idles really high due to a lean mixture the computer will try to compensate by adding a ton of fuel to keep it running, but only up to a certain point. After that point it’ll die if you don’t screw with the idle adjustment or give it some gas. This’ll lower gas mileage and might cause computer issues over time. It’ll also run like crap, but it will run. Once had a friend disconnect one of my fuel injectors and the truck kept on trying its best to keep running, but would die at a stop if I let it idle without giving it some throttle. Little things like dirty air filters can also choke the engine and cause it to run rich and rough. If the computer or some other component like the ICM fries it’ll die on the road and even if you can jump start it or turn the engine over again it won’t run, so don’t be afraid to ask a more seasoned mechanic for advice or assistance if you’re not sure what you’re doing.

My 1992 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab 5.7 fuel injected engine was idling perfect but when i got on the road and gave it gas it was horrible wouldn't run but idle great so i changed the map sensor and o2 sensor and engine temperature sensor and finally the throttle position sensor and my truck ran perfect so it was the tps sensor so dont give up keep googling and good luck

I have a 1990 Full Size Blazer 4x4. I don’t drive it much and for years it’s been idling High. There is no Tach in the truck so I don’t know the RPM but it is high and never lowers itself until I put it in drive. It runs great otherwise but I am stumped. I haven’t checked for any codes yet and there isn’t any light on the dash telling me to service engine. A week or so ago I checked You Tube out and mentioned about my High Idle. I came to a video saying that I needed to replace the Idle Control Valve. I did that and it made no difference whatsoever. It still idles high. Then I read that I should disconnect the battery for awhile then reconnect it for the computer to reset. I did that over night. Reconnected it and ran and drove it for about 45 minutes and it is still the same which brought me here to see if maybe it could be the TPS. Any ideas? My Blazer believe it or not has only 65k original miles on it. I have owned it since 1995. As I said I don’t drive it very much.

Could be a vacuum leak . Spray brake cleaner around the intake manifold and listen for any changes . Intake leaks are common.

You are right on the money. Found out earlier today sprayed some Carb Spray around the base by the gasket. Left front was wiped. I know I shouldn't be spraying carb spray around a throttle body but I figured by the base of it wouldn't hurt any.

to be honest it ended up being a lot of different parts that need to be replaced but the main problem were the spark plug wires . I had replaced them a couple years ago and was convinced they were fine . They were corroded on the plug end real bad as was the cap . After I replaced the wires the problem stopped. go figure .

Cohesion tps is very easy to replace so I would wonder why he didn’t just change it out . My guess would be a lot if parts will need to be replaced but thankfully they are all very cheap parts . As long as it running and drives the rest can be fine tuned .
