Try to back probe the connector with a paper clip or a safety pin. Knicking the wire like that will cause moisture to get in and corrode it eventually causing more problems. Even with electrical tape moisture could still get in, especially as the tape gets old and dries out or is put on loosely.
Just an FYI. The reading for the TPS on these trucks should be approximately 0.58 with ignition on engine off and meter set to 20 DC with red probe from meter on blue wire and black probe from meter to battery ground. 👍👍👍
So interesting situation, my truck pops a DTC 22 on cold mornings and it ditlrectly affects how the transmission shifts gears. When the light turns on, i have to rev up my truck jusy to get it to shift gears. Then when it finally changes gears, it jerks very hard. Can any experienced mechanics or old timers tell me if this is something bigger, or if this is just a bad TPS?

@living in a desert even if it was the fuel pump. You are suppose to change the filter as well when doing the job so why not start with the 10 dollar part just to see... If a catalytic converter is clogged it can cause a vehicle to fall on it's face when applying gas as well
Yes a bad TPS sensor can cause hesitation or bogging when applying the gas pedal from a stop and also as you drive and apply the gas pedal to accelerate you can have a hesitation for a second or two if your TPS is bad. Had to replace mines and all hesitation stopped but I did have a code to direct me to the TPS sensor.
Will a bad tps cause a 95 k1500 to basically choke while driving? Starts out fine, but very soon after, the truck seems to choke and struggle. Gauges go wild. Stalled once
Same with my 89 454 TBI. I changed the fuel filter the coolant temperature sensor and the map sensor. Still no cure for the bogging out after the pickup warms up hesitation when you try to accelerate. One less than a half a tank at a stop sign when accelerating after the stop it stalls on dies I guess I'll check my fuel pressure any ideas what it should be at? Should I just go ahead and change my fuel pump?
@@rexfknwetzel7162 my 95 g20 van was stalling and would not accelerate. I installed a new ignition coil module and van is running the best it ever has. Hopefully this helps you out.
same same. All you're checking with the sweep is continuity of the resistor. The closed setting and the WOT settings are what really matters. If it's too high at idle, it'll be too rich usually as the ECU thinks the throttle is open further than it really is.
Great video and fairly accurate the way you did it. If you really want to do this test with the utmost accuracy an analog type meter with the needle should be used. A digital meter is not accurate or does not have a high enough sensitivity to show the dead spots. Otherwise great info ;)
@@jasongrinnell1986 Using the proper test equipment when trouble shooting will get you to the correct conclusion faster and save money on buying the wrong parts. @Alex Salazar Good morning. The last thing I did was drop the tank, I thought it was rusty inside and that the pump was faulty. I was surprised to find the tank like new inside ,though my truck is nearly 30 years old. I did replace the pump, and I found that the fuel pump connection to the steel pipe inside the tank was not good anymore. But the old pump was still working fine. And still, after all, still have the problem. I have driven nearly 2000km afterwards.

What is a dead spot when testing a throttle position Sensor?
Basically when you open the throttle is the ohms start to spike or go down that means it’s bad
Not ohms it’s vdc

My truck has a standard. Does it have a TPS on it dum question I know just wondering
I dont think so; if its a standard you basically do what the TPS is doing for a automatic transmission.

Can a bad tps sensor cause my truck want to bog when applying the gas pedal
yes. I get an intermittent code 22 and when it is on , I often get hesitation in acceleration
Could also be a clogging fuel filter. Runs good at idle. Bogs when gas is applied

That would most likely be a vacuum leak. Possibly bad master cylinder leak

What if the truck shuts off while driving or shifted into gear?
Theres an aluminium tube that goes from the exhaust mani to the air filter housing. My guess is you're missing that part?
Try replacing your TPS Throttle Position Sensor. It raises the idle some to compensate for the lugs when put into gear or A/C is turned on.
Mine says .93 would it be bad?
Suppose to be 0.58 approximately 👍✌️
Doesn’t this only test the harness and not the sensor itself?
Wont this throw a code if its a sensor?
Yes

there are more tests than just what you showed. And nicking wires are never a good idea.
