    I'm guilty, I like these instructional videos to be swift and to the point. I like your narrative tone, it's very Zen like and calm. The idea of using magnets inside and out is very cool for those who have not heard about that method before. We have been using this trick to clean our large fish tank glass and it works great! The only thing I would suggest is doing a time compression effect when performing repetitive tasks like sewing, sanding,nailing and drilling. The increase in frame rate is visually entertaining while still being instructional.

    dont listen to the ppl saying you need to edit your vids shorter. Its better this way because ppl want to learn how someone does the entire process. If you do edit then ur gonna get way more ppl asking questions in the comments. Theyre gonna be clueless.

      The videos of putting the headlights in the oven is all I could find, before I came up with this idea. And I did not want to buy a new oven, if I caught my headlight on fire. I am glad you like it. Thank you for the comment.

      @Farina Marcini Yup, Algae magnets, although they really only work on a recent, soft algae coatings. The hardened stuff requires a more aggressive technique, like a razor blade, done carefully.

    I logged into UA-cam just to drop this comment, shat my pants because I spent 300 bucks on some headlights. Ended up with one of them covered in condensation that left a nasty film and was already having nightmares about hearing it up in the oven, especially because I think if it already has that nastiness inside and you bake it you’ll accidentally cook the grime in forever. Unfortunately my lights have about a 3mm passing between the backing and the actual inside of the lens itself but I’ll do what one comment said and just sew the magnet into a microfiber cloth. Pray for me lol about to go to the hardware store for the stuff. I’ll drop an update comment after I take out my headlight and clean it, thank you for this I had this idea myself but never saw it in practice. Ur a life saver I thought I threw 300$ in the trash!!!

      Thank you for your comment. I used a headlight restoring kit, I think rainx brand, to clean the outside. There are tons of videos of many different brands for cleaning the outside of the headlights. I made this video, cause all the videos I saw for cleaning the inside of the headlight involved taking the headlight apart.

    Thank you!! My ktm superduke 1290 had this hazy look inside the headlight which annoyed me. And the way the headlight is shaped i couldn’t poke anything up the top portion. This idea worked perfectly! Pulled a magnet out of the bottom of a trouble light. Sewed it inside a small bit of micro fibre cloth. Threw it inside the headlight moved it around with another magnet just wrapped in micro fibre. 100% better.
    Then for the finishing perfection I sprayed some vuplex plastic cleaner on the magnet that goes inside and rubbed it around until it was perfectly clear.
    Thanks for sharing!

    You could leave the thread long enough without cutting so that you can pull the cleaning sponge from the inside in case it falls off, this way you may not need to remove the headlight from the car 😃
    Awesome video ! 👏

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the comment. The main reason I took the headlight out, was that it was almost impossible to film what I was doing and it make any sense. That and I wanted to polish the outside of the light, while it was out of the car. The bad thing about my car headlights is there is a reflector thing in the middle, that is metal, and the magnet would get caught on it all the time. This made using the grabber thing necessary.

    Can you recommend some cleaners. Can you use a touch of rubbing compound for stubborn stains

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  Рік тому +1

      You could try. I recommend trying in an area that wouldn't matter if it got messed up, like the side. That way, if it did damage the surface, at least it wouldn't be where it matters. It would be a disaster if you scratched the middle of the headlight to a point that you would have to replace it.

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  3 роки тому +3

      I was trying to show that you could make it with different materials. The t-shirt material works best, but if you had something stubborn, on the inside of your headlight, you could make the sponge magnet to scrub more aggressively. Thank you for the question. Sorry for the confusion.

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  3 роки тому

      Good question....Yes they do, but the clear plastic and the black plastic are glued together. I have seen videos where people put their headlight in the oven and "bake" it for a while to loosen the glue enough to pull the two pieces apart. I was worried that I would damage my headlights or make my wife mad at me for baking my headlights in the oven. I thought this method was a better solution and I could have done it by leaving the headlight assembly in the car and just taking out the bulb to gain access to the inside of the headlight assembly. Thank you for this question.

    What should i buy alcohol??

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  5 років тому

      You want to test what ever you use, on a small section of your headlight, before using it all over. You mainly want something that will dry quickly without leaving a residue. I used denatured alcohol before, but I have had good luck with isopropyl alcohol in a high percentage like 90 or higher. Thank you for the comment, and good luck.

    This approach is mostly fine if the headlamp units are cheap and you don't care if they get streaky or totally screwed up. If your car is one of those that has headlight units costing in the neighborhood of $1000 or so, you definitely don't want to do this. Avoid using any contact on the inside of the lens if at all possible. The inside is coated with material that you will destroy if you apply pressure to it with your fingers, an old t-shirt, or anything but the most delicate touch with a clean wet super soft microfiber. Never never never no not ever use alcohol on the inside of the plastic lens. It will destroy the coating and you can kiss your expensive lens goodbye, or learn to love foggy ugly lights. Experts recommend using nothing stronger than dish soap, which should be rinsed out with distilled water and carefully dried with clean compressed air. If the liquid only approach fails, the next level of aggression is extremely careful use of very fine grain microfiber wet down with distilled water. Minimize any pressure and don't overdo the rubbing. Rinse with distilled water and again, dry it with CLEAN compressed air. Best approach: just pay the money to someone who actually knows how to do it safely, or spend the megabucks on nice new ones. ;-)

      I agree. If my headlights were new and foggy I would have been much more careful with them. They are 24 years old and new ones would cost about $100 a piece. I had cleaned the outside, and was able to see the dirt on the inside. I looked up ways to clean the inside, but most of the solutions I saw were to take the headlights apart using heat to melt the glue, holding the two halves together. I thought that the magnet method would be worth a shot, and it did work on my headlights. If I try it again, I will try the microfiber material. If I had a car that had headlights worth $1000 a piece, I would take it to a professional. Thank you for your comment.

      @@CHARLESCRANFORD even some pretty ordinary vehicles have headlamps that can't even be replaced with used ones for less than 800 bucks each and they won't pass the safety inspection if they aren't clear. If one really must take them apart, scary as it seems, I think about 13 or 14 minutes in a 200 F oven might be the best route. At least consider mixing that approach with some sincere heartfelt prayers lol.

    this will severely scratch the inside of your lens. You should never touch the inside with anything abrasive. looks okay from 20 feet away and when the suns out but at night bet you can see alot of damage

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD

      You want to use something soft and non abrasive like tshirt material or a microfiber cloth. If you are concerned about scratches, you should test it in a corner before cleaning the entire inside.

      You would think so, but the "glass" (actually plastic) part is glued to the back. You can heat this glue up and try and take them apart, but you run the risk of damaging your headlight. There are youtube videos of people doing this with heat guns and ovens. I did not want to risk melting, cracking, or otherwise damaging my headlights. Thanks for the comment.
