    Good tips man! And for the people talking about rubbing alcohol, don't do it! Even diluted, rubbing alcohol is a very strong SOLVENT. Even at 50% and lower. I used 50% alcohol when wiping down a high quality shroud and it actually caused the chrome to flake off after a day!

    Couple of things! you can fix the crazing with a super expensive 3m canopy kit for aircraft. and the microfiber cloths can only be used once for the headlights, after that here considered soiled and will contribute to lens scratching. Learning alot from your channel. wish you were still doing videos.

    The best way to smooth out glass cheaply is to work the surface with pumice soap and to rinse off as you did. It has micro abrasives that will work out any blemishes. Then to apply a gentle glass polish with a dust free cloth. If you use a 1400gsm cloth or higher to wipe off it will leave minimal streaks. I have cleaned the outside of lenses but not experimented on the inside with the exception of just wiping them with a clean/new cloth with a little rubbing alcohol. Also, the smudges left after air drying can be removed with rubbing alcohol and a soft dust free cloth. The alcohol evaporates super fast without leaving residue. Hope my suggestions can help you. Thanks for an awesome video as always.

    • @flyryde

      It’s so crazy. I make videos like this that are deceptively complex. On the surface it’s some idiot acting like water and soap is hard to figure out. In reality, your seemingly rational idea of alcohol and cloth would most certainly destroy the inner layer I spoke about, but in tiny little sections, eating though only where you rubbed, but not where you couldn’t access. It’s one of the worst things you could do.
      Also keep in mind it’s been 20 years since headlamps had glass lenses, so the pumice idea is out the window. Sucks right? Two totally good ideas are absolutely terrible in reality. Stick to the tips in the video and you’ll be stoked at the results 👍

    One time I had moisture in my light so I pulled it off, poured rubbing alcohol inside, swished it around, poured it out, and blew air into it so all of the alcohol was evaporated. Big mistake. That coating on the inside turned hazy so I had to buy a new one.

      I'm sure glad I read your entire comment bcuz while reading I began moving towards my rubbing alcohol thinking I FINALLY found a fix to cleaning the inside of my headlight projector glass without being able to touch it since I refuse to pull apart my headlight assemble from fear of not being able to properly seal them (2011 Ford Edge) I'm about to try using 6" extra large q-tips with a microfiber eye lenses cleaning towel. I had a difficult time installing new LED bulbs last year, I couldn't get them to twist back in due to too much metal on metal friction so I stupidly sprayed WD-40 inside, over spraying inside of the projector lens!!!! What's worse is, I repeated the process on the second headlight!! Good luck to me for removing the year old WD-40 without dismantling the assemblies. Tips/Suggestions will be appreciated, if they are worthwhile.

    • @JAW11
      @JAW11 Рік тому +2

      White vinegar works amazingly well on the outside but I don’t know about the inside as I had no idea there was a delicate plastic lens on the inside until I watched this video.
      I have a Honda Fit and recently learned the inside of the headlights cloud over, so no amount of cleaning the exterior is going to fix them. Just for the heck of it though, I mixed white vinegar, baking soda and water and used a sponge on the exterior lights and voila, the lenses are nearly clear. What’s left is on the inside but it’s 90% better than it was! It saved me $1200 at the mechanic.
      I wish I’d taken before and after photos but I didn’t think of it. I honestly didn’t know it was going to work as well as it did. ❤

    Have you ever seen LEDs cause hazing on the inside film? I recently took my stock ones apart to paint the housing black and put new lenses on. I also changed the bulbs to SMDs and I noticed both the sidemarkers sections got hazing around the bulb, so I had to take it apart and clean whatever it was off and re-seal. I switched to a super low heat led and that seemed to fix the issue. BUT there’s no way that any LED burns hotter than stock. I’m just at a loss as to what would cause this other than heat. Maybe the lenses are just crappy?

    Recently did my 350Z lights and got a small blemish on the inside of the lens that needed contact to get off, so used a new microfiber and some panel prep for paint and yeah hazed the lens. Since the light is long gone anyway (previous owner butchered the housing by breaking all but 1 clip so doesn't seal unless I cover the outside in silicone) I thought id try the wet sand, clear coat, polish method and for the most part it worked really well. You can still see some scratches at certain angles but like I said the housing and lens are done anyway and this is just temporary until I replace it with a depo housing and lens and transfer the OEM internals over.

      FlyRyde I used dish soap and a microfiber to clean them up then compressed air dried them. I didn’t think to use distilled water that’s clever. The haze is from something off gassing either paint or adhesive. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They cleaned up fairly well, no more cataracts even with a new microfiber i got fine lines. These are my personal test lights so I’m still trial and error. New lenses would be the next step. Great videos I learn so many tricks. Keep it up.

    You contaminated the microfiber cloth with your barehands. As well as using the tap water and distilled water. Also when using the compressed air to blow out the water, hold the lense upside down so gravity can do its job. It will prevent any floating particles from landing inside too.

Without the extra garbage projectors and weird LED placement)...... Holler at this guy! Or if you know someone who has a stockpile of like new condition take offs without charging my 2nd born. My custom headlights had issues and went back and forth and due to them being opened and closed about 3 times they now work but they are misting up like crazy and got all sorts of dirty marks inside. I don't want to be sending them back again. So want to try heat them up, open them up with the slide technique you have shown, clean them and re seal. Shall I still do the washing up liquid and water move around with no running and then dampen a micro fibre and gently wipe? Then I was going to blow dry them and I have kitchen towel to wipe clean. Would this be ok? Then wonder if I need more of that butyl stuff adding or just heat up what there and add more sealant around them the next day. Advise would be great. Thanks

Also outside lens was sanded all the way from 150 to 2.5k grits and polished with burdock oil and I never had cleaner and better lenses since I have car. Again I'm not sure if that was right thing to do and will it last, it was just desperate experiment and results are amazing currently. Headlights are from Audi A6 1998y.

    How to remove WD-40 from inside of projector lens WITHOUT dismantling headlight assembly? Even possible? 6" extra large q-tips with microfiber towel? Any glass cleaner I can use?
    I was hoping this video was FINALLY a fix to cleaning the inside of my headlight projector glass without being able to touch it since I refuse to pull apart my headlight assemble from fear of not being able to properly seal them (2011 Ford Edge) I'm about to try using 6" extra large q-tips with a microfiber eye lenses cleaning towel.
    WHY? I had a difficult time installing new LED bulbs last year, I couldn't get them to twist back in due to too much metal on metal friction and a terrible angle so only my fingertips can reach the bulb, tight space, so I stupidly sprayed WD-40 inside, over spraying inside of the projector lens!!!! What's worse is, I had to repeat the process on the second headlight!! Good luck to me for removing the year old WD-40 without dismantling the assemblies. Tips/Suggestions will be appreciated, if they are worthwhile.

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  4 роки тому

      I wouldn’t say inferior. One car that’s plagued massively by bad, yellowed old lenses is the IS250/350. Screw buying new lights at 2k+ when a set of DEPO light lenses can be swapped into the factory Xenon units and make them look brand new. Just depends on how much you care about that extra 1600+ dollars whether you want OEM or not 🤔

      Randolph Cirilo probably, but overall I’m not the car care guy to ask. I treat my cars like crap lol. I’m sure some dude out there waxes his lights daily, sings sweet lullaby’s when he locks her up tight in the garage for the night, and then dreams of detailing the undercarriage... 🤦‍♂️ For normal humans, I think it just boils down to the environment where you live, and if it’s garage kept it not.
