- A tribute to Fergus, Outlander's favorite French orphan pickpocket, played perfectly by Romann Berrux, who is adopted by Jamie and Claire Fraser. Music is "You'll Be In My Heart" by Phil Collins a song about adoption, from the Disney movie Tarzan. Video as always belongs to Starz.
Such a gifted actor! The role of Fergus was perfectly casted, and it's wonderful that he is a continuing member of the Fraser clan. He brings a fresh enchantment to the series. Those gorgeous eyes!!! Thanks for this great vid and music!!
Romann has been replaced by Cesar Domboy. "Fergus" is now about 32 yrs old. He was the perfect choice as young Fergus. Hope his acting career continues.

How can you not love Fergus? There is one thumbs down and I hope it was just spontaneous. To handsome, too charming. For those that have read the first 3 books, you know what I think of him as an older teenager and my heart twists.
Maybe the thumbs down is for Phil Collins? 😂

I have been binging this show and in France when they first introduced him I was kind of annoyed by him...I was like man this kid can't be trusted and he's going to probably rat Jaime out for plotting against the Prince. Then he just kept proving loyal over and over. The more he followed them to knew places and his persistence with the whole "me'lord" and "me'lady" thing, I feel like a lot of people probably don't notice these things but I really enjoyed the persistent loyalty and politeness of the character. It was difficult seeing him lose a hand, but he lost it out of loyalty to Jaime which was completely in character for him. It was amazing seeing him 20 years later i'm like YES FERGUS! because I thought I had seen the end of the character. Some of the best scenes I have seen on the entire show were when Jaime gave him his last name, and when he called him forward to swear loyalty at the fiery cross thing. I love seeing Fergus rewarded for his loyalty and just seeing good things happen to him because he really deserves it.
I love EVERYTHING about Romann and Fergus. A thousand thanks. It's beautiful. And there is almost nothing about him on the internet at the time of this writing. I hope he earns a sackful of awards.

I feel bad for Fergus. Last time he sees his mom until 20 years later is before a battle and in thoes 20 years he think his mother is dead. Just like that has to be scaring for a child. I heard in the books he is crying into his mothers lap and hugging her lap. Which I dont blame him.. with how much he loved his mom and how he thought her dead, must have been the best thing ever for him to have her back.
And I’m sure he must have always partially blamed himself for her “death” since he has always seen himself as her little protector and because he was sent away, for his own safety, he wasn’t there protect her when he thought it counted most and then he was told she died there without him. I think it’s also why he was so hard on himself and tried to take his own life feeling useless when Marsali was attacked and Claire was abducted, beaten, and raped by Lionel Brown and his gang. Not only was he not there to protect his wife and unborn child, whose dwarfism he blames himself for since he believes it’s he was beaten in the womb, but he wasn’t there once again to protect his beloved mother who was finally restored to him and he could have lost all over again. He actually shed a tear when they went to rescue her he looked on in horror to see his usually strong, brave, and spirited mother in such hurt, fragile, and disheveled state.

Roman is a wonderful actor, and you just wanted to cuddle him. I think, though, his most attractive quality was that mop of curls he had lost by the time Jamie and Clair were reunited.
I’m glad they took Fergus with them when they left France. I thought he was going to rob them at first but he turned out to be a very loyal and trustworthy young man. I liked both the younger and older portrayals of him.

One question. Jamie made Claire go back thru the stone to protect her and the baby.... what about Fergus? shouldn't he have been saved too?

Who knows if Fergus could have gone through the stones? Would he understand being so young? And how would he adapt to life 200 years in the future? Most likely made more sense to have him remain in his own time with Jamie's family.

At Culloden, Claire and Jamie made the ultimate sacrifice to save both of their children. They sent Fergus to Lallybroch alone where they knew he would be safe, loved, and cared for as family, and did it without giving him the Fraser name so he couldn’t be officially associated with the traitorous Jacobite Red Jamie and taken the way Ian was as his brother in law, giving him the best chance at a happy life even if they couldn’t be part of it. Jamie intended to die on that battlefield showing his son what it is to be a man of honor and keep his word, and Claire had to go through the stones so she wouldn’t bring harm to Lallybroch and her son by being the wife of a traitor and a traitor herself, plus she had a very dangerous pregnancy and had a highest likelihood of both her and the littlest Fraser surviving it with 20th century medicine. She had to make the impossible choice as a mother to part with her beloved son to save him in the only way she could under the circumstances, knowing she would never again get to comfort him in sadness, celebrate his successes, watch him grow up, get married, have children, and give him the home with her she promised him. Claire sacrificed her own happiness to make sure her children were raised with love, in safety, and that both had the greatest opportunities and chance of their own happiness, even if it meant living as a shell of herself in a life she didn’t want, with a man she didn’t love, and not being able to raise one of her children herself. To sacrifice your own desires to save your children is what it means to be a parent.

I never understood why he was always so loyal to them and after watching this I see that he just wanted parents. This makes his whole story so much better but I always just saw him and just this kid who was kind of hanging around...now I see every time he hugs Claire he's hugging her like she's his mom.
Claire isn’t like his mom, she IS his mom.
