For posterity, the thumbscrew being adjusted herein this video IS NOT a fine-tune adjustment for the transmission. Its only purpose is to adjust the gauge cluster's shift indicator readout. It doesn't align gears, it only aligns a little orange piece of plastic in the gauge cluster to correspond with whichever gear the transmission is in. It is cosmetic only, not an actual means by which to get your busted transmission to stop chewing itself.
From memory, the 46re has an anti-drainback one way valve on the cooler line near the radiator. These do clog, and if so, can starve the transmission for fluid. In PARK, the trans does not pump fluid. The noise could be fluid pressure problems. When I rebuilt my trans, I deleted the valve.
I have a 2001 Durango with 4x4 doing the same thing. It turned out that the transfer case was shifting into neutral. There was a small gourmet on the linkage that was missing.
1999 Durango 5.9, 4x4. Same issue. Will be picked up tomorrow to a mechanic to figure out what is wrong. 160000 miles, engine runs smooth and rest is in great shape. Worth the repair.
Sorry. I am not tracking UA-cam much, BUT...the transmission was fully rebuilt. $2000, but the car runs perfect now. They had forgotten to put the dustcover on the transmission but I took it back and they fixed it as well. Runs like a champ. Decided to not waste time and money screwing around, fixing one thing then the next to finally have a trany rebuilt. You know, fix a thing here, change a thing there and at the end Caitlyn is still Bruce. Drove it over to another place to get an estimate on the front end, es it was getting lose as well. they quoted me $3000+. Used rock auto, ordered parts and will do it myself ($500). But yes, the Durango runs perfect now.
Having some of the same problems my self. No whining sound but I have to start it in neutral. It doesn't want to go in park . Reverse is drive. You have to feel for all the gears nothing lines up with P,D,N,R on the dash . Transmissions slips until you get it up to about 55 or 60 and runs smoothly. Any help. I love my 99 Durango but fear the fix maybe to much for the value of the vehicle
I'm having the same problem... A mechanic told that it could be the transmission filter that might have fallen from the tube that sucks up the oil.. I haven't checked it yet because I haven't had time but as soon as I checked I'll let you know what happens
Don't know if anyone figured it out but I believe which was the same problem in my truck is the four-wheel the gear shift between your center console and dash underneath the truck is not connected properly so you're not in actual drive it's stuck in between neutral and drive again that's four wheel stick shift
First off what your turning is the adjustment for the gear selector only. The whining your hearing sounds like the band's to me.. you have 2 bands a 2nd gear band and a reverse band try adjusting them.. like I said what your turning is just for the orange selector it has nothing to do with the transmission. Try adjusting the tv cable on the throttle body also..
This is the sound from the oil pump, and usually this happens when the pump has no liquid. check if there is enough ATF in the oil sump and if there is no clogged oil filter. check my YT channel. I dismantled the transmossion from the car and overhauled.
@@rakarnsunju No shit? I thought the original owners had the same issue, then had the tranny rebuilt and had the same issue again? It seems they would have changed out the filter at the rebuild as well. Maybe they used the old filter or installed it improperly?

Got to check control connections and programed shifting.
Check tranny control valve operations.Transgo had a shift kit
upgrade for control valves.

That thumb screw only adjust the needle.. have have to adjust the shift linkage out by transmission..

What did u do to fix that problem
Replaced the the trans filter apparently.

Put a new ball and socket on that. Its moving to much right there. Get a new cable if need be
Gotta do a key flick for the codes to show...

replace the transmission regulator valve
