Subscribed!! Because I, too, was able to nab myself an 04 USDM STi from a classic car dealer in AZ about two years ago in December. Initially, I wanted to simply restore this gem. Keep it OEM stock and just refresh the engine, hoses, plugs, fluids and oils... That lasted all but 30 mins the second I took it for a drive the first day, lol!! This car is an absolute blast and I don't think Subaru will ever make something as raw, and just purely joyful to drive. As an older fellow myself, I know how and what I need to do to keep it reliable...plus I have the funds to do so. No cutting corners with this one. Enjoy your STi, my friend, they are truly one of a kind! 🥰
Thank you, Ive already purchased a built block for when I swap of the motor for the refresh. I am still debating the build path, but I've already started buying parts. My plan is to build back to stock(ish), clean it up, make it pretty so that I can enter and hopefully win a local car show. Once I get to that point I am planning on building it to take a podium in a class race while still being street worthy. A few years back we had a '17 WRX absolutely enjoyed the car, but it never felt like it was enough. They really are great cars and a blast to drive. How far have you got into your build?
@@OneMansAdventure08 nice! And a really good plan you've go going. You've had the experience of working on your WRX (VAs are also a very nice platform to work off of). I got lucky in a sense; having good compression and below 3% on the cylinder leak down on a 20 year old engine?! One previous own, garage kept with only 89K miles. So you know what I did, lol.. gutted the fuel system; put it twin Walbro 450s in a radium hanger. Ran my own -AN lines from the tank to a parallel fuel system feeding a dual injector set up that (Outfront told me couldn't be possible). Additionally I switched out the TGVs for the Radium ones, KB turbo intake, COBB Airbox and induction, New FB Blue turbo, COBB down pipe, GrimmSpeed UEL headers, with Up-pipe, ETS large top mount intercooler. Ripped out the old outdated 32-bit ECU and upgraded it with a new Link G4X PnP ECU (to which I learned how to wire in all the sensors and tune the car myself...by far the most difficult thing that I have ever had to do...no "regerts" though! Changed out the power steering OEM rack to the 2015 13:1 rack, whiteline front and rear swaybars, and endlinks, new FortuneAuto 500s, New tubular front subframe (totally recommend, btw) from TSSFab, working on getting the rear one now, new Brembo discs and rotors, rebuilt the calipers, and power coated them cherry blossom. Lately, I've been on a whole weight reduction kick and replaced the battery with a 7lbs LiFePO3 12V...total game changer! Honestly dude, I've been through every inch of this car. I don't know much about other cars or later models but our GD 2004-2005; I've learned quite a bit. I'm sure you are already aware but IWSTI, NASIOC, Facebook Groups, message boards are pure toxic...and I've made it a mission of mine to help others as much as humanly possible because when I needed help I was just gas lit and made fun of. Good luck with the search. I tried to find one that wasn't beat like it owed money, but the ones a found were crazy expensive. Thanks for watching I've been sitting on this for about 3 months while I got my ducks in a row, but now the time has come. Next video is going to be a tear down, and a hunt for rust.
