@@juliakonya7266 awesome, thank you. I will definitely check it out! I’m in the process of making mine now. I noticed my cord was extremely hard to brush through after putting the stiffener on. I ended up rinsing it out with hot water two times in order to brush through it. Do you dilute the stiffener?
@@juliakonya7266 ohhhh ok, that makes sense. I’ve only bought the one bottle I had so I’ll buy another and see how it goes. It took me all day, but I finished the hanging. I’m so excited about how it turned out! Thank you so much!
Thank you Julia for this video! I made one and it’s hanging for about a year and looks lovely. Planning to make one containing few pieces. For fabric stiffener I used the one you have recommended but it was not enough and came pricey. I just made boiled charcuterie and it holds even stronger and cheap.
Hi there Sofia! I'm glad you like it. I'd love to know what you did exactly for the stiffener. Maybe you could email me. Maybe I'll add it to my blog post. Thanks!
@@juliakonya7266 sorry just saw this message from you. Instead of stiffener I make my own solution. I boil pot of water and add starch (old fashion way). You can make it thicker and then it will hold strings stronger or less so. All you need a box of starch.
Do you use all 12 strands of the 8 feet macrame per 1 finished hanging strand? I know this sounds confusing but wondering if you used them all for one finished piece. Thank u.
Your work is just beutiful. I was looking for this kind of job for so long. I would like to knew why you use fabric stiffness? And if its possible to use regular glue instead.
Hi there, regular glue would definitely not work. The stiffener helps make the yarn straight and stay straight but it also helps to keep the yarn loose. :)
Hi. This looks fantastic and thank you for the time to share it. Approximately how much of each coloured embroidery floss did you use? Many thanks in advance. Ian
Thanks Ian, I'm glad you like it. It's hard to say how much embroidery floss I used because I had to get more twice. I used some colors more than others. For the dark brown, for example, I only needed two. The lighter ones maybe 5.
@@juliakonya7266 Thanks Julia. That's nice to know as a start. May need a few trips to get more. Thanks again for sharing. It really is very nice and I am looking forward to trying to do it.
Hi there! If you unravel macrame yarn, it tends to still twist back into the shape it was before. The fabric stiffener prevents that and makes the yarn straight. It just wouldn't look this way without it.
@@JanisGagliardiyes! I’ve been trying for several days to comb and/or brush out my dry (stiffened) cord and it’s pretty much impossible. I used the exact cord that the person I watched used (she used this vid as inspiration) and she showed dipping it in the bottle, hanging up for 30-60 minutes to dry, then brush out. I had to wait 4 hours for the strands to dry and they’re impossible to brush. They just tangle up or twist around….have yet to get “flat” beautiful STRAIGHT sheet-looking strands🙄😂. This LOOKS easy….don’t let it fool you😂😂😂.
This is beautiful! But HELP! I can't find macrame. I live in a small town and we just don't have it. Could it be called something else or would anything else work?
Hi Kesley, I linked to the exact yarn that I bought on Amazon in the video descriptions up there or in my blog post. Ordering online is your best option.
Please, I want to do this but I don't know which product you pass the laces through, is it fabric softener or starch, can you help me? I'm writing from Costa Rica
Hi there Lilia, I use fabric starch to stiffen the yarn. Check out my blog post for more details too. cuckoo4design.com/how-to-make-long-narrow-wall-art-using-combed-macrame-yarn-and-embroidery-floss/
For me, it helps to do it in very small sections and start combing from the bottom up not from the top down. But I've also heard from others that the type of fabric stiffener used can make a difference.
Thank you for answering my question ❤️ actually I followed each step in the video I used the same stiffener, maybe the type of the cord , am using bobbiny brand
@yasmeensabah177 I did the exact same thing using the same stiffener as in the video in the same technique and the cords tangled insanely for me as well. I even tried to wash the stiffener out to see if that would help, but no, I just have a bunch of loose-looking fuzzy cords no matter what I do. Tried combing, gave that up, bought a pet brush….nope, still a mess😂.
Since I made this it has gotten more popular and I have seen others use wool but to be honest, I don't really like the look as much. It definitely changes the look but you certainly can use it.
I have tried this atleast 3x and CANNOT comb thru the cord. Very frustrated! I’ve tried 3 different brands and even the one you linked. I’m using all the same products. What am I missing……
Hi Carrie, sorry you are having difficulties. You have to make sure it's real starch and not some type of mod podge glue which has happened to others. The starch works great for me every time.
Thank you! I just saw one like this going for $1,200. It’s going to become my end of summer project 😊

Why use stiffener?
The yarn curls otherwise and isn't really manageable.
