  • In 1918, Vasyl Yemets, a young visionary bandurist from Eastern Ukraine, formed a unified group of performing kobzars, the “Kobzar Choir” - the UBC’s originating ensemble.
The group performed for the first time on November 3, 1918 at Kyiv’s famous Bergone Theatre -
now called the Lesya Ukrainka Theatre.
100 years later, the UBC visited the theatre to mark this historic occasion. They performed “The Clouds Are Rising” «Встає хмара» - a piece composed by Yemets himself.
On this anniversary, we remember the Kobzar Choir and its founding members. We are grateful to our predecessors and supporters who have allowed the ensemble to continue sharing Ukraine’s history, culture, and bandura with the world.
