As It Happened: Ukraine Receives Autocephaly from Ecumenical Patriarch

This is it. Tomos of autocephaly, the document that grants independence to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, was handed over to Ukraine on January 6 at St. George’s Cathedral in Istanbul, Turkey. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople gave it to Metropolitan Epiphanius, the head of the new Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who in his turn brought it to the St Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, Ukraine.
