Hey Rachel, you are so right! Love BL. Her music is so soothing.. I just want to move into her place! But that would mean abandoning my husband and kids, and I kinda really love them even if they’re messy and collectors! Exactly the way I started, drawers. Took a year to go through the whole house. Then we sold all of that or gave it away and moved into a smaller home. Started over getting rid of all the extra. Then we moved into a small apartment 340 square feet for the short term future being near an elderly mom. Big pieces we weren’t ready to get rid of went into our shop storage. Our oldest daughter and family moved into our small house. I do not know how long this will last or what we will do once we aren’t needed here but we do have everything we need now and we’ve lived here a year and a half without going into that storage for anything so my decisions have felt right.
I keep going back to this clip. Your message has facilitated me to let go of stuff/people more easily than hanging on to the sentimental value. Thank you, Benita ❤

That's the one area I have to be mindful of too. Hi Benita. New subscriber. Your videos are like my escapist fantasy. In a mouldy rented house in the English countryside, a teenager who tidies when teenagers do - rarely -, a husband who almost never puts things back where they belong, and a double coated large dog, it would be like your worst nightmare. Can't complain, though. It's not minimalist tidy wood on white but there's life pulsating in dust and dog hair, people who are mad but beautiful, at least mostly on the inside. Hi Benita, I just wanted to say thank you for your videos, I have watched so many other videos about minimalism and found them too unrealistic for me and too much about the aesthetic and becoming part of a trend! I find your videos very straightforward and practical which is more motivating for me. You have helped me be more realistic and not sentimental with things that are actually causing my mental health to suffer. Your videos are also very calming which helps greatly, i feel more in control of my own life since starting to follow your example in reality. Thank You again 🙂
Very good tips: I have been in the process of doing that, and you end up having a lot more time to do things that interest you or that you like when you declutter your home. One thing though: please do not throw away in the trash what you do not want. Try as much as you can donating to second hand stores, etc, and try to keep things out of the landfill!
I'm absolutely not a minimalist but considering why one keeps things is good nonetheless. Prioritizing and not being weighed down. Love your wording of being made the custodian of someone else's belongings. It's important not to feel obligated by choices made by earlier generations. We do get to choose for ourselves. That thought helped me when I finally got rid of a huge and ugly set of tableware I inherited from my beloved grandmother.

When we moved over a year ago we got rid of 75% of what we owned. Our new home ( I paid cash for a brand new build), and am debt free. I will never be an extreme minimalist, but I have what I love, and everything has a place. Cleaning our home is very easy now, it takes me maybe 10 to 15 minutes each day. It is always fresh, neat, clean and tidy. I went to the UK and Paris recently, for 2 weeks and it was amazing, I was glad I had the money to have such a wonderful time there. Space really does cost you money, if you are not using it you are wasting your money. We currently have a small bathroom and adjacent room which is used for storage that we don't use fully, it costs us money, we are planning on renovating the kitchen and the bathroom and using part of the "storage" space to increase the size of the other 2. We will then be using the space to its best potential. We are trying to be minimalist, it's an on going process, but worth it.😁👍

I became a minimalist a few years ago. I agree 100% with all of your views. I wish more people did as well...it's not that I want everyone to think like me, it's that I see so much waste in the world, the packaging that must be discarded with just about every purchase. Hopefully more people are catching on. I've converted my husband. :)
I’m starting this week in my kitchen. I found an empty container and an unopened bag of coffee I didn’t know I had in my 😂🤣 I have to declutter 2 rooms and my garage, a little bit every day. I’ve stopped buying plants too. Just have enough for now and I am working on my actual garden st the front I can see from my living room.
I am trying to declutter my wardrobe today but have such a hard time with it. I knew that I would get the right motivation here on this channel and I was right! Thank you :-)
Great video, Benita! I'm not a true minimalist by any means but there are so many minimalist-minded things that even us non-minimalists can do to make our lives better, and you always give me some new idea to try in my own home!
Love your video. Yes, things and people. I like also that you suggested taking pictures of before and after. Great idea. It encourages us to do more. Thank you.
The inside of my home is grey n white with black appliances. That’s what attacted me to your videos. I said I needed more color like with my paintings.Your home is beautiful and the minimal style is great. I’d trade you if I could. Hubby hates the cold.😁Oh well😋
I have been working at minimalismfor two years now & still have a long way to go. Downsizing unwanted relationships is such good advice. I had a friend that would insult me & run me down. I even talked to my minister about "how to get rid" of her. He said "hand in there". Bad advice, let them go. It doesn't have to be a nasty confrontation, do it slowly!
Our family is currently renovating our house and its a chaos. I'm very unproductive because everything feels suffocating. But of course I know this is just temporary. Can't wait to finally have our house finished.
Oh, that renovation stage where it’s worse before it gets better isn’t a good one. Keep an eye on the prize, it’ll pass and you’ll have your home back AND improved!
I wish I had done this! I still have a ways to go minimalism wise but the big areas have been tackled and I’ve already forgotten what they really looked like.
Finally a new video from you...😍😍😍… I was looking so much forward to it...I recently discovered your channel and I ❤️ it... lots of greetings from germany benita😘
I have tooo many items, I want to be able to fit all my belongings including shoe in a large suitcase, I find it hard to detach because in my head, someone in Jamaica could use this but in the end the items doesn't make it to Jamaica instead just take up space. What a happy way to begin my Friday - your videos are such an enjoyable way for me to calm, relax and gain motivation.
That makes me so happy to hear!
Great job on converting your other half!
Thank you :-)
Before and after picture tip is so helpful!
I love doing them!
Great video, Benita! I'm not a true minimalist by any means but there are so many minimalist-minded things that even us non-minimalists can do to make our lives better, and you always give me some new idea to try in my own home!
I'm so happy if I can inspire a little bit!
You offer very helpful and meaningful ideas. Thank you!
Gracias por rl video yo llevo años en ese proceso de minimalismo... Era acumuladora por tradición y educación
thank you very much, i was so inspired i immediately starting clearing and cleaning out
applies to Urban design too .... get rid of the clutter of cars mostly and their disruption
I look forward to your videos please keep them coming
Aww! Thank you! I wish I had more time to work on videos, I really enjoy making them!
I am just starting with my journey towards a more minimalist lifestyle.
Your video has really given me a much needed boost
Im so happy to hear that!
Hubby hates the cold.😁Oh well😋
Interesting advice. Enjoyed this.
Thanks.
You make it seem simple. Thanks for tips
Direct but factual. Thank you!
That friend is no friend so definitely time to let go!
Thank you! I am considering to follow this path. I hope that your tips will help. Bye.
3:25 Actually space and time are same thing: Spacetime. Soo... Yeah, you're right.
Love the point you made about sentimentality and 'people minimalism'. Thank you and greetings from Barbados!
Thanks so much for watching!
BIC is my faaavorite pencil too!! ♡
..but I'm a blue-girl. Black I only use for drawing.
😄
I'll take your blue Bic pens. I grew up using them! (blue only, never black) :) Going to clean out a drawer now!
😂 👍🏻
😅😅😅
Beautiful video. Thank you for this!
Great advice, starting is always the first hurdle.
Always on point. I loved the tip with the before and after photos. Looking forward for the next video. Regards from Greece 🇬🇷
Thank you so much!
I wish I had done this! I still have a ways to go minimalism wise but the big areas have been tackled and I’ve already forgotten what they really looked like.
Wow thanks for sharing your tips I really appreciate it!

I have tooo many items, I want to be able to fit all my belongings including shoe in a large suitcase, I find it hard to detach because in my head, someone in Jamaica could use this but in the end the items doesn't make it to Jamaica instead just take up space. Today I will get rid of some more things today
