One that I want to point out that someone mentioned was that in this video I was only running my sensitivity at 16 which is really low. I was using 16 because I turned it down in my garage for totally forgot I changed it. I should have been running it at 23 or higher.

I try to help people on this channel and obviously you haven't taken the time to figure that out. Instead you choose to be troll me by leaving a comment like that. My buddy and I both own the nox 600. He just purchased the Manticore and within an hour he pulled out 2 silvers and 5 older Pennies in a place we both hunted last year. It goes deep.
Glad to hear about the headphones shutting off automatically, no dead battery if left on accidentally. I also noticed the pinpointing works well using the pull back method, that's the way I do it too. I'd say the machine did an excellent job considering you have hunted the spot many times with other high dollar machines, can't wait to get mine.
I took mine out for the first time yesterday. Had a similar experience - the 2D display showed two targets at either end of the display on the centre line. 1 was hot rock, the other a coin. I would have ignored that on my 800.
Thanks, great video. I got mine out for a couple hrs Sunday on a really polluted site. I'm looking forward to figuring out all that this thing is telling us . Very impressed so far.
Just purchased Manticore from Fort Bedford over the weekend. Will have in a few days. Please keep the videos coming for all the settings, I use on beach only and in salt water. Thanks again !! Looks like the CTX3030 might have to take a back seat along with the 600. I did not use the 600 very often and the 3030 was my go-to-machine. .
Hi Scott thanks for the little spin with the Manticore. It looks like a good machine, could you please show the screen more so we can see how it is different from the way the Nox 800 works. I had the same thing happen with the nox 800 where I was getting 2 distinct different signals at the exact same spot. It kept sounding like a penny and a slightly lower sound. I dug it and it was a washer and 1/2 inch away under it was a penny, exactly what the Nox 800 was telling me, excellent separation. But the Manticore did find a lot of coins in a "hunted out " area. I think an area is never hunted out really, I have a house built in the 70s and found 167 coins in the yard and every time I say that's it , she's hunted out I still find more!
I was an etrac guy and wasn't impressed when the Nox first came out but was proved wrong. I am a coin hunter and have dug over 900 silver coins in three years with the 800 so I have hopes for this machine. It was impressive when you dug the nail with the penny and the coin was deeper - that right there is a definite game changer! Going to wait until Spring when it is more available. Thanks for the video!
I’ve got my SDC2300 on consignment and when it is sold, I will pick up my new Manticore. Seems you are happy with yours and I can’t wait to hit a few areas that I have in mind. Looks like it will take a bit of getting used to but should be very interesting nutting it all out. Oh, and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Make sure when you do get it that it has the latest update. That really helped the machine a lot IMO. Good luck that is exciting for you. I really like it.
That was a great video as always ,I was smiling too when you pulled that penny under the nail, very impressive it showed both on the screen ,keep up the great videos! thanks.
Great video. I like the hunting videos. Testing videos are OK to show tendencies, but nothing will replace getting out and using it. As a past CTX user, I agree on the 2d screen. Looks awesome.
Amazing showing 2 targets, one Iron and the other Non-Farris/Non-Iron. This nailed it for me. I have a year old MineLab CTX3030 with 6, 11, and 17" coil for sale. I spend too much time trying to figure out what the graphing grid display is showing. Wireless Head Phones. I still have OEM box.
Well.... At 6 mins in you were pretty excited by hearing a repeatable tone in the penny-ish range, but saw both FE & CO in the hole. It's a nice feature that's been around since the Etrac & CTX, but it's not new. Maybe better. The question you have to ask yourself is, "Would you have dug that target with your other detector?" Even with no screen, I think most would have dug that. We all find nails mixed in with holes. I call them iffy targets. What I'm wanting to see with the Manticore is hearing more iron FE but SEEING a CO target on the screen. This will super hard and time consuming because you'll have to have iron audio on and then verify screen when you run over something that may have a hint of falseing. Appreciate the videos... Keep them coming!
Never said it was new but it is better just by the age of tech and yes I have a CTX 3030 and loved that feature as well and was really hoping it was going to be incorporated into the Manticore which bares excitement for me. I think I even stated in the video that I probably would have dug that signal anyway. However, that was literally the first real hunt and I was impressed by the information I was getting so if I mislead anyone into thinking something it isn't my bad. But its still a really cool feature of this machine.
Scott, is there anyway you can show us what that 2D image looks like on the screen when you’re targeting something? I can’t really see it when the remote control is moving in the video…Tnx!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am a novice detector using a 15 year old Whites prizm II and I am thinking about treating myself to an upgraded detector and this is one that I’m looking at. Please let me know what you think or if you have a different recommendation. Thank you in advance.
@@MentalMetal Thank you for your feedback on it. I ended up ordering one last night. I’ll have to see what they do about an update. Now I can’t wait to get out there and give it a go! Happy 4th!!!
Congrats hopefully my friends a Fort Bedford got the chance to earn your business. If not, I hope you bought from your local dealer. I like to see folks give the little dealers a chance vs the big box places.
@@MentalMetal I ended up working with a small dealer. I always give the small guys the opportunity before the big players. The guy I worked with was great. He is updating the software and did it before i even asked about. Threw in a bunch of extra stuff for me as well which was very nice!
As you were digging targets, and with my experience on how Minelabs perform and how my garrett VDI numbers were on targets I was pretty much able to guess what each target was going to be except the wheat that rang in the 60s, I was thinking nickel. The first modern penny rang a bit high then rang lower, equinox does same thing. The low 90s an American clad quarter, same as garretts VDI for a quarter. Looks like a good machine, but I'm not sure just how much it will really out perform the equinox. I mean I found coins with nails, tin foil, caps all in the same hole with the Equinox. Only time will tell I guess. Great video. ATB 👍👍
Thanks yeah I haven't had a chance to get an idea on the target IDs just yet. I think it will end up being one of the top 2 machines out there. The other one being the the Deus 2. In my opinion.
I wasn’t trying to blame you for not turning it into standby mode! I didn’t know if it had one and have always been frustrating to test my detector without hearing it blasting away
My biggest concern with a purchase is whether it will improve my overall speed and efficiency in acquiring my targets. I doubt that it will be able to eliminate the amount of trash targets dug without the risk of leaving behind good treasure ie odd shaped rings, broken rings, filigree, chains, etc. The ability to show masked targets is definitely a game changer IF it is reliable and mostly consistent.
The speed and efficiency really comes down to how well you know and understand your detector. The machine is just a tool but I do think this machine has a lot to offer that others don't. Time will tell.
I liked the video but I don't understand how certain people can get the Manticore super early and others have beg and wait I guess it comes down to luck. I have my fingers crossed Minelab!!!
There was a time I was considering the CTX30 but bought the Nox 800 and loved it and then the XPD2 came along, the Manticore is much lighter than CTX 3030 and with the less complicated setting and like the idea of that 2D screen this is now on my bucket list dam it 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for your alway excellent videos 😀😀😀🥳🥳🥳
on the dig with the nail and the penny you said even before you dug that the signal sounded very good. I'm taking it that 2d screen or no screen it's a diggable target. Would you have dug it without the 2D screen on tone alone?
I think I even mentioned that I would have dug that target anyway but have the image showing me there were 2 targets is something that will help when encounter iffy signals that may not sound as good this display may help you decide whether or not to dig or not. If I can save myself from digging some junk, I'll take it.
How is ML with updates these days. Owned a CTX3030 when they just came out. Got a Deus shortly after. XP was offering updates quite often and it didnt take long for the Deus to surpass the CTX as ML wasnt offering updates at all. Gave the CTX to my brother and am now looking at the Deus II. I really like ML quality just not sold on their support.
Their support is good if something breaks. Updates.. well the Manticore needs one and I've heard they are working on it. The Deus II needs an update as well and I've heard they are working on it and some have the beta version of it. We'll just have to wait and see.
@Mental Metal , you’ve received some criticism on the friendly metal detecting forum for being overly enthusiastic about the 2d screen. His claim is that the 2d isn’t new and has been used by Minelab in one form or another for 20 years. He claims that the CTS 3030 has essentially the same feature. Can you do a short video explaining the difference? Thanks.
Thanks Gary for giving the heads on criticism over on the forums. I will do some comparisons because I still have the 3030 and yes they are correct the 2D display has been around via Minelab for many years (no argument there) but ask how many of them wished Minelab would have updated the 3030 to something more modern and faster? They would all probably say yes. That's all my point is. I loved the feature of the 3030 and was hoping they would do something similar with the Manticore and they did. If I'm over enthusiastic about it I guess they can rant or say whatever they want. Thy have their opinions too. This machine will not be for the die hard Garrett fanbase or some of the Nokta folks or even XP fans. However, from what I've seen so far, the Manticore is turning out (for me) to be nice machine and a joy to use and yes I love the 2D display. :-)
I started this hobby about 13 or 14 years ago when Minelab introduced the Xterra series. The 705 was the most advanced detector that I could afford at the time. It's the only detector that I'm familiar with but now I'm ready for some new technology. It looks like the Manticore is the one to get.
I think you will like it. Instinctively the menus are set up very well so learning this machine will not be that difficult. Reach out to John over at Fort Bedford they will take care of you if you are looking to get one. They are coming in but it might be a little wait but he'll do his best to get one to you.
I have an entire playlist that walks you through menu navigation and a bunch more. Check out Minelab Manticore for Beginners ua-cam.com/channels/6_3Cp_6QbSK1qR4e9P2IGQ.html
Just a shame I wasted 1k on the nox 800 just before this came out ,if the nox just had the 2D screen then it would be OK, might have to dust off the CTX lol
$500.00 more than the 900, still had to dig it, found a nail and a penny. If I dug, found a nail then checked the hole again and found a penny. With the 900 I would have saved $500.00 bucks.
By some reviews Mantecore are good on deep targets , but useless on separation. It has hard times in foil hiding good targets like coin. D2 beats it in foil hiding coin. Calabash digger tested and proves that.
Yes I've been watching his tests. I wouldn't throw out the Manticore just yet. There is a lot that machine has to offer that isn't getting goo press yet. Once it gets out to the public in bigger numbers you will be probably see a different camp emerge. I personally love using it. I just stay away from the iron carpets. :-)
Hi. Thank you for your video. We'er Minelab dealer in S.korea.Can we edit your video as a short video and upload it? Of course, the edited video will show the source. Thank you. :)
No, I don't approve of this. Please don't. If you are a dealer, you are capable of creating your own content to advertise for yourself, but I appreciate the ask.
Not sure how the 2D is better than the eTrac display. I've picked silver & a nail out of the same hole with it so please explain how 2D will be better.
@@MentalMetal 2012! Not saying it is overall better as I do not have a manticore to compare to and it's really heavy, I am just wondering what makes the 2D display better than what eTrac has. It appears to be similar.
Hey nice vid. Thanks for the review of the MAnticore. I did see one video out there that displayed the depth of the machine . They used some kind of foreign coin that I did not recognize , but I'd guess it was picking it up in air test at 18 or 20 inches !!!!! What do you think its capable of on a quarter? I'd love to see a few more depth test videos. Also, at first when I heard the machine was soon to be released and read about the 2D display I was so thrilled , but now I get the impression its not really exactly a shape identifier.....Or would you say it is?? I also did watch a minelab video explaining that and it showed example of a bottle cap but I wasn't that impressed....But like any machine I guess you have to use it and learn it. And also ....what is that funky sounding pinpointer you use?? Sounds like my dentist drilling my teeth. I'm assuming it is a Deus? thanks, Bob
Thankyou. The 2D display is a tool but you really need to depend on your ears like any other machine. Will it give you indications of size, yes, is it right all the time, no. Will it fool you yes unless you listen closely to the sounds. No one is an expert on this machine yet. Depth at this point isn't important. Most of the high end machines are within an inch of each other but it will depend on atmospherics, soil conditions and how you have the machine set up. My pin-pointer is the XP MI6 and MI4.
Really? I just try and support my local dealer. Maybe your situation is different but I would like to keep my local dealer in business to support our community of diggers here in MD.
Sure haven't seen any reasons to ditch my Legend so far, Simplex or even Ace 400 would have found any one of those. Was it more efficient ? Can't tell, seems like more of the overhype that is come to be expected from minelab
I posted a comment about it. I forgot I had it at 16 when I was in my garage. I never paid attention to it to be completely up front but I sitll found stuff :-)
That display thing is a gimmick... No thanks... I like you I'm sure with other familiar detectors can identify at a high probability what we're digging before we dig... I'm so not impressed with the other gadgets.... I'm grateful for my 3 simplex and now 2 legends
I’ve had the manticore for about a month and a half now I have found nothing with it other than pool rings, bottle caps and change. The manticore is not worth 1700 bucks why do they give you a water machine and a set of headphones that’s not waterproof that’s ignorant.
Regarding the headphones, I give you that one. But...you don't get waterproof headphones with the LEGEND, Nox 900, XP Deus 2 etc. I'm not really sure the Manticore is pitched as a "water" machine per se but none of the other brands offer you any different. They all require you to purchase their waterproof headphones. I guess maybe the shinning light here is if already have the yellow waterproof headphones from a Nox 800, then you are covered. At least they did that.
440 vanquish or 540 very good if not swimming only 4 aa bats my old compass takes 12 and weights triple .the cabled headphones suck. I use the speaker it is okay.it extends or collapses very nicely
no lol it would take more than that. Just being straight up. Its not easy catching everything in frame as it moving so I totally understand where you are coming from. Sometimes the quality sucks but I do the best I can with what I have. Thats the reality.
One that I want to point out that someone mentioned was that in this video I was only running my sensitivity at 16 which is really low. I was using 16 because I turned it down in my garage for totally forgot I changed it. I should have been running it at 23 or higher.

Looks pretty darn amazing! What is the battery life on it?
Tech specs indicate about 10 hours
If anyone is looking to buy the Manticore Bass Pro Shop has 61 in stock as of today.
*_You da Man._*
Thanks haha
Not being familiar with the Manticore or Minelab equipment, I wish I could have seen the screen better.
I have an entire playlist that walks you through menu navigation and a bunch more. Check out Minelab Manticore for Beginners ua-cam.com/channels/6_3Cp_6QbSK1qR4e9P2IGQ.html
Is that a dental drill or a pinpointer? My fillings ache every time he uses it!
LOL yeah I hear that a lot. You can actually change it to a normal beeping pattern.
Minelab outshines xp!
hmmmm debatable maybe in some areas but I wouldn't cash in just yet on that.
Just curious, does this detector seem like they may have fixed the issues they were having with the Equinox coils breaking at the ears?
no comment...from the look at things!
Yes this should be addressed. They use a different way of mounting from the lower shaft to the coil.
@@MentalMetal I appreciate the info. The way the coils were made was definitely a concern on the Equinox.
Scott - any thoughts yet on Manticore vs. Equinox regarding depth?
Manticore for the win
You must be really really really "special" to get a Manticore so soon. Can I be your friend?
As a Beach Jewelry Hunter…… The Million Dollar Question ……How does the 2D Trace Show on Deep Fishing Weights…. Good / Bad Trace ?
I wish I could tell you Rob.
Good video.
Thanks!
What's the price difference...this and equinox
Just a shame I wasted 1k on the nox 800 just before this came out ,if the nox just had the 2D screen then it would be OK, might have to dust off the CTX lol
Ouch…Scott where are your gloves?lol
next time :-)
$500.00 more than the 900, still had to dig it, found a nail and a penny. If I dug, found a nail then checked the hole again and found a penny. With the 900 I would have saved $500.00 bucks.
I think I see your logic here :-)
By some reviews Mantecore are good on deep targets , but useless on separation.
Yes, this is what the 3030 does.
but much faster, a lot clearer, and you don't need a PC to do any customization to your custom programs. I have the 3030 as well.
@@MentalMetal Aside from naming programs all customization can be fine right on the 3030, no PC needed
but... it was a lot more difficult to do. The Exchange software made it a breeze. Doing it all on the machine drove me bonkers.
@@MentalMetal You are not kidding!😄 It’s looking like we have a continuing bumper crop of GREAT machines to work with!
At $2600 Canadian I was really hoping that you would say the Manticore sucked lol.
yeah I feel your pain because I have the D2 but its turning out to be legit.
Awesome video! Now I really want my manticore dammit!! Lol😅
Fort Bedford to the rescue!
Thanks for content. Please keep D2 videos coming to. Thank you.
What state are you in?
Don't worry I haven't given up in the D2.
I wonder if it can show more than two targets 🧐
It does.
Deus 2 and 800 they don't work property in trash that reason im getting pre order
I'm not so sure I agree there but good luck on the Manticore its a great machine too. I really like it.
Not sure how the 2D is better than the eTrac display. I've picked silver & a nail out of the same hole with it so please explain how 2D will be better.
How old is your eTrac?
Impressive. The ability to see multiple targets and accomodate for averaging is very nice indeed. Let's see of XP responds.
Fingers crossed!
looking forward to reviews where its purchased, not donated and nothing owed to either minelab for a shop
If you like your machine then stick with it. Nothing wrong with that. Will I put down my favorite machine for this one? I'm not sure just yet.
Why are you running sensitivity so low
I posted a comment about it. I forgot I had it at 16 when I was in my garage. I never paid attention to it to be completely up front but I sitll found stuff :-)
Nox 800 on steroids. No wireless technology. I wonder, because of the design, if it will leak as well. I’ll wait for the next Xp Dues 😉
and I was only running 16 sensitivity (which was not what I should have been running) I forgot that I had lowered it in my garage.
That display thing is a gimmick... No thanks... I like you I'm sure with other familiar detectors can identify at a high probability what we're digging before we dig... I'm so not impressed with the other gadgets.... I'm grateful for my 3 simplex and now 2 legends
Fair enough, this machine isn't for everyone.
You're really missing out. Signed, at CTX user. 😁
How the hell exactly does a nail identify that it's not metal
You have about 20 years to go to pay for that detector 30 cents a hunt
Who says I only find 30 cents a hunt? LOL
@@MentalMetal probably like 5 cents in Iron too i forgot
After seeing this I'm definitely not interested in this detector. I can do just as much and just as efficiently with half the money.
Perhaps and that is ok. Enjoy your machine.
the whole point of this detector is it's depth, it's not happing
whats not happening?
tried to watch .....3 ads in the 1st minute ....goodbye......
Take it up w/UA-cam
Different angles ..different ID 😑
They all do it.
@@MentalMetal
It could be better with a concentric..
perhaps but they don't offer a concentric coil (yet).
Too broke to own it, THE PRICE IS BS!!!
440 vanquish or 540 very good if not swimming only 4 aa bats my old compass takes 12 and weights triple .the cabled headphones suck. I use the speaker it is okay.it extends or collapses very nicely
Wayyyyyy.... Overpriced...
gives me a head ache trying to watch .....movin to fast.
Sorry, Bob, it's not easy recording either.
@@MentalMetal touch a nerve did I?
no lol it would take more than that. Just being straight up. Its not easy catching everything in frame as it moving so I totally understand where you are coming from. Sometimes the quality sucks but I do the best I can with what I have. Thats the reality.
