Thanks for telling us the equinox900 goes just as deep. I got a gpx4500 for Kalgoorlie Gold fields and my girlfriend is getting a equinox900 for the beach and Kalgoorlie also.
Thank you very much for the comparison. I am looking to purchase my first detector and doing some research and came across your video. I'm leaning on the 900. I hope I choose wisely.
I an getting the 900 as well(I think). I have been using a bounty hunter quick silver for 20 years.. can't count how many gold rings I've found on DRY beach sand. They all beep if you get lucky and go over the object.
You just said what I was going to say, just got my Manta and took it to the beach the other night at a - tide and love it with the 2D, saves you a lot of time and just zero in on the solid round marks and keep going,,,,,I will see how it does in the jungle old areas next on mostly bronze coins. Thanks for the report
Thanks Andy for the excellent comparison and for your integrity and no sales pitch approach. Having thousands of hours on the Equinox 800, it was a natural progression to get a 900. I have never used the Manticore. I don't look at the screen on any of my detectors very much and I don't get to saltwater beach hunt very often. So those are my reasons for getting the 900. So far it has the really great shaft system, hopefully it's really waterproof, faster recovery speed, better target separation and that more expanded target ID range than the 800. I like all of those improvements a lot except for the expanded target ID range which is taking me a lot longer to get used to than I expected. With my love for gold prospecting, the inclusion of the 6" coil and compatibility with the other Equinox and Coiltek coils that I own, for me the 900 was the easy choice.
Thanks, Jeff. glad you liked the review. Also, thanks for the comments about the 900. I wish Minelab would offer a choice for ID range in the next update they do. I prefer the condensed ID of the 800 but im getting used to the 900 the more I use it.

@@richardkunkle9924 Back about 4 months ago Minelab had a sale and dealers offered the Manticore for $1199…I used Minelab’s 15% mil discount (-$179.85) and it brought the price to $1019.15 out the door, no tax/free ship from the dealer I purchased from.

Great run down Andrew. Agree with all of it. Of course, I don't have a 900, but do have a lot of experience on the 800, and have been using the Manticore for a few months. I don't know how the 900 compares to the 800 in EMI, but I've been pretty happy with how much better the Manticore seems to handle EMI than the 800. In a couple of parks where I can't really even use SMF on the 800, or any single frequency below 20Khz and even then with sens in the 16-18 range, I've been able to run the Manticore in SMF at 20+ sens and it really seems to make a difference in that those parks seem to have producing a lot more of the deeper coins. My 800 isn't going anywhere though - it's still more useful with the smaller coil in a lot of situations. And who knows when ML is ever going to ship the Manticore coils.
Thanks for your comments Dave. I agree that the Manticore does do a good job of EMI mitigation at parks. I think it's just overall better at picking a quiet channel quickly.
I have to apologize to minelab for my bashing manticore when I first got it and thought it was lacking. After almost a year later actually learning how it likes to run and learning how it works it is a very very good machine. I first had legend and came to like it very much. Then I acquired the manticore which I did not like at all for quite some time. After running it long enough to learn how to really use it I no longer use the legend at all. I am amazed at the small targets manticore can easily get that legend will not.
Coming from the 800 I bought the manticore and have been wondering if I made the right choice or not. I think I did but those iron nails give me fits with the manticore. I did a test garden and put nails in every hole in different configurations with coins. It really messes with the 2D screen and VDI numbers. I’m still on the fence if the screen helps me or hurts me. One thing I have learned is turning on a target doesn’t help. With nails close to a target you might only have one angle where it sounds good. Thanks for the video
Ive got a gpx4500 which is perfect for me in Kalgoorlie's highly mineralised soil but im getting a bit old and my arm gets sore. My daughter's and grand daughters are tiny people (45 to 60 kilos )and im thinking of getting a equinox 800 or hopefully 900 if i can come up with the money. I think the equinox would be excellent for my daughters and grand daughters with the lightness and even myself when my arm gets sore from the 4500. How do you think the equinox 800 and 900 would go in Western Australia's goldfields like Kalgoorlie with the very highly mineralised soils ?
I really appreciate this video! I am a novice and I mostly do beach hunting. I am looking to upgrade my current whites prizm II. Was leaning towards the equinox 900. But now maybe the manticore. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
I have a couple of questions. Is the headset waterproof on either or both. They both say they can be used totally submerged. And for one unique use I may have is there a 4 inch coil available?
Easy answer if you get out detecting pretty much everyday the manticore if not the 900 in my eyes the manticore is not worth the money it is it's not that much of leap from 900

They’re both great detectors I owned both sold the 900 to a friend if you had to choose one and had no other detectors I’d go with the 900 it’s $500.00 less and comes with a 6” coil I have two detectors a D2 with 9” and manticore And you can get them cheaper than advertised my 900 was $1050.00 no tax free ship

Good summary.
I think the balance of the Manticore is off a bit is because the shaft is not located at the center of the coil.
I think you're right about that.
Most informative thank you

Neither of the headphones are waterproof but the entire metal detector is. A 4" coil isn't available for either.
