Not a dumb question at all! We don't play it directly, but the string will resonate naturally while you're playing and add subtle overtones. It makes everything sound a tiny bit richer, but if you leave it tuned to E it will just sound a bit "off". Having it tuned down is great for if you want to deviate from the tab slightly and throw a few high Ds in there as well! :)

It’s not really required if you don’t want it tbh, but for the strumming at the end just make sure not to hit by accident
